We have classified the 284 complaints from 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Driver's side sliding door will not unlock manually, with button, or with key fob. i have tried unlocking the door while driving, in park, and when turned off. i have tried unlocking the door manually and the lock is stuck in the locked position.
while driving on the highway or street the vehicle looses all power. dash goes blank and no steering available. today i was driving on the highway van lost all power almost causing an accident.
Wireless ignition node (win) module position fails compromising the ability to start the engine with key fob. this was repaired once for 122 dollars. three months later, dealership wants 1200 to fix it. vehicle was stationary and tow truck was required.
It started with my vehicle not starting intermittently. as the problem got worse at first we thought it may be the fuel pump. after extensive searching it was revealed to be a faulty tipm module that causes issues with the fuel system. i contacted dodge and they validated that they are aware of the problem. there has been recalls listed for most vehicles with this same module, however not for the dodge grand caravan, i do not understand why. the issue has now escalated. while driving in the pitch dark to work the vehicle started acting funny, then all power shut off, steering locked, fob locked in ignition, no lights, no blinkers, right in the middle of the road while driving. i had just dropped off my son so glad he wasn't with me. it seems the problem all goes back to the tipm which has been draining my battery and causing other electrical issues. this is a safety hazard. i contacted dodge and they refuse to do anything to help because my vehicle is "outside the warranty". i explained how this problem doesn't even start until approx. 70,000 miles(i'm currently at 60,000). beyond that the warrant y was expired when i purchased it used from the dodge dealer 3 years ago. i've contacted dodge numerous times and no one of any stature will even talk to me since the caseworker called the case "closed" based on the warranty. i think this is immoral on the part of dodge being that this has been a persistent problem with theses modules that goes as far back as 2010, yet they continued to use it. i purchased this vehicle so my wife can move my child around safely, and am scared to even let her drive it. at the moment no one is driving it because it died on the road and smells like the electrical system was burning. i am currently looking for a way to fix this issue. the estimated cost of repair is around $2,000.00.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle experienced a loss of power. the contact managed to move the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and turned off the engine. the vehicle failed to restart. aaa towed the vehicle to tom ahl chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram (617 king ave, lima, oh 45805, (419) 909-6322) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated fuse box power module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 68053361. the contact was advised to call nhtsa. the contact also referenced nhtsa action number: dp14004dp14004(electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 140,000. the vin was unknown.
My car kept stalling and cutting off. it would cut off at times while driving on busy city streets, just before totally shutting down.thought it was the battery and had that replaced. nothing else was reading as an issue that would cause this problem. i knew it was larger problem when i was unable to jump start my vehicle or feed it gas using the pedal. car no longer starts. apparently i no longer have power to my fuel pump, and the relay is integrated into the fuse box. upon doing some research this is a common issue that causes the vehicle to randomly shut off. dealerships want $1200 to fix.
Internal fuel pump relay failure within tipm
My vehicle was at jeff wyler chrysler, dodge and jeep in batavia, ohio for a week plus a few days. in all of that time that this vehicle was having its transmission issues diagnosed and inspected, the service department failed to address the open recall of nhtsa recall #17v-376, fca recall #t33 for the steering wheel wiring. the dealership knows about open recalls and, yet failed to perform the repairs on this vehicle. instead, it allowed my vehicle to be towed from its lot back to my home address, despite knowing that it failed to address the recall. dodge customer care representatives informed me of this recall while i was on the phone with them and still the dealership did not even make mention of this. they failed to repair the potentially dangerous or fatal issues with the vehicle and dodge failed to ensure that the vehicle recall was completed during all of my conversations with dodge and dodge executive office personnel.
2011 dodge grand caravan had a faulty tipm and is a known problem costing well over $1500.00 at dodge to get a new tipm. this effects the stability control module, the transmission electronic shifting, the brake lights and the air conditioning just to name a few issues. we have reached out to dodge and they will not cover it.
Van won't start several time a week because of a faulty t.i.p.m. dodge knows about this problem and won't warranty it because they have not been forced to recall this part/problem. my wife use's this van for her job and is in some bad neighborhoods and is scared someone will hurt her and she can't get away because van won't start. there are several places on the internet that rebuilds these t.i.p.m.'s because of known problems. dodge even has a bypass to the fuel pump as an aftermarket part to fix some of these issues but not all of the problems.the fuel pump relay has intermittent power to the relay and that is causing the no start problem. the internet has page after page's of customer complaints that has had or having this problem. this happens all times during the day when stationary. van can work perfect then we stop and get out and a few minutes later we get back in and van cranks but won't start.
Van lost all power multiple lights come on and dash had to get towed 200 miles everything is pointing to the tipm totally integrated power module being being bad
The 2011 dodge caravan tipm module causing al type of issues, these issues are known by dodge/chrysler is there a recall for this well documented faulty part this part can single handedly disable and operation. the engine wont start because fuel pump not engaging the van wont shift out of park, the ac fan turns on when it feels like, the tipm controls pretty much everything its a $1500 the internet is full of complaints i don't understand how this isn't a recall i just tried to see if dodge could order one cost was $1500 for part and install the best part was is they are backordered and no eta for part this part goes bad your vehicle is useless
Fuel pump relay is faulty and not serviceable. power to fuel pump can and does cut out without warning. my car has only 54;653 miles when relay quite. an aftermarket bypass devise was needed to keep vehicle running. luckily my vehicle was parked when relay stopped working.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled and would shut off intermittently. the contact also stated that multiple electrical failures occurred, including the speedometer becoming defective while traveling various speeds, multiple warning indicators flashing or remaining illuminated, and the headlights would fade or flicker without warning. the contact took the vehicle to ginn chrysler jeep dodge (5190 us-278, covington, ga 30014) on multiple occasions to be serviced; however, the failures continued. the contact also had the vehicle towed to an unknown dealer in michigan where the alternator was replace; however, the failures continued. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.
Van would turn over but not start. this continues to happen over and over. the dealership told me i needed a new tipm and fuel pump. but found out this is a very common problem, and they issued a recall for other vehicles with this same part. it is the fuel relay switch inside of tipm that goes bad. it seems the fuel pump is fine. i can buy a repair part very cheap. this is plastered all over online and i think this is a known problem and should be a recall!
Takata recall. 2011 dodge grand caravan. we bought it in june 2018 ..problems began in jily 2018. it began with tire sensor light coming on and staying on but no issues....then advanced to not starting at all..evaluation resulting in several towing bills even after 2 new fuel pumps put in..then a fuel pump relay. ran for a while and continued to shut power off while driving on highways, back rds. no warning lights just shut off. more towing costs. very dangerous situations due to no warning and while driving when vehicle just off. now u understanding numerous dodge grand caravans dealing w same issues and refusing recall...putting lives at high risk especially w a special needs in vehicle, my little kids and kids scout friends. its currently unable to safely drive due to its unexpected shut off while driving
Both rear auto doors automatically shut as soon as they open. they do not stay open long enough to safely remove my disabled child from the rear seating. it has become a safety hazard. if i turn automatic feature off, it does the same thing still. as soon as the door opens all the way, it automatic shuts itself. this has been an issue for a few weeks now.
Van was in motion on city street (taking daughter to school) when it started shaking and then there was a burning smell. auto shop said it's electrical but has referred us to dealership for further auto service because whatever caused burning smell "shorted out the radio / information control unit" the van is not safe to drive with this issue or it could catch fire.
2011 dodge grand caravan. consumer writes in regard to vehicle's pcm malfunction causing the alternator to overheat and battery to fail. *as *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. when the contact placed the key into the ignition and attempted to start the engine, nothing in the vehicle operated. the contact had to turn the key in the ignition a few times before the vehicle worked. the contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. burns motors (1300 us-83 bus, mcallen, tx 78501) was contacted and stated that they were unable to repair the vehicle because it was not included in an unknown recall. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
On occasion the fuel pump would remain on after the key was turned off. this was being caused by the fuel pump relay getting stuck. had to pull the fuse to get it to stop. twice this left me stranded with a dead battery. noticed that there is a recall for chrysler, these are the same vehicles, recall should be issued for the dodge also.
Car will be in motion and loses all power without warning. per forums i have seen this is a well known problem but there is no recall.
Car incidentally does t start !!!! delay fuel pump tipm doesn't work properly !
Vehicle stalls/dies while driving. my family was on the freeway and the dodge caravan just died. lights still worked but engine suddenly quit running. had to coast to the side of the road after almost being run over by other vehicles. a police officer had to push vehicle off of freeway. this has happened intermittently on city streets and 3 times on the freeway. it happens at slow and fast speeds. it is extremely unsafe and scary. we had a fuel pump relay bypass installed as we've read this could be the problem. but vehicle still dies while driving. someone is going to get hurt or killed. please help!
The horn honks and the doors lock whenever they feel like it. scared it will lock my kids in the vehicle. it started on its own last night. we had to unhook battery of fear it would start again. the tipm is causing the vehicle to do random things it wouldnt normally do. like shut off while operating with no notice or just not start.
When driving, the van will start shaking and shut down. this has happened while in park too. also, when van won't start, we open up the fuse box and sometimes just by putting your hand on the fuse box the electrical system will "start-up" then we can cycle the van on. this has happened while parked outside the bank and while at a red light in traffic.
Started with the vehicle not wanting to start all the time. recently it shut off with no warning while on the highway going 65 mph with no steering. now it wont start at all. was towed to dealership where they found the problem after 2 days. the problem is the tipm (total integrated power module). finding out i am not the only one with this problem. it isnt safe for other drivers or to the families inside the vehicle.
Tipm failing. our 2011 dodge grand caravan only has 78,000 miles on it, yet the tipm is causing all sorts of problems. the biggest issue is that the vehicle won't start on occasion, and it's progressively getting worse. the engine turns over, but it doesn't start after several attempts. this happened again today. other times it won't even turn over. when it doesn't turn over, we usually put the vehicle into neutral and back into park, then it usually starts. we've also had the check engine light come on many times. one set of codes was for a camshaft positioning sensor, so we replaced those. then a couple weeks later it did it again, so we had them replaced again. after a few months we then had the light come on and the dealership eventually had the pcv hose and valve replaced, then the lifters, rockers, tappers, etc. on the right side (not part of the left-side recall). we have had doors randomly open, lock or unlock. windows have opened without us activating the switch. a few times the alarm (horn) has sounded and we have to press the button on the fob several times to shut it off. the car also shut off once while my wife was driving on the road, which is very frightening. the tipms in these vehicle are faulty, no matter what dodge says. check the complaints on the carcomplaints website.
Wipers on intermittently and will not turn off. no interior lights or dash lights, then all lights on instrument panel/warning lights come on. loud squealing noise and chattering noise from instrument panel. van will not start. sliding door sometimes opens on it's own. vehicle is usually parked and happens on start up, but has occasionally happened while driving.
The tipm module completely failed causing damage to the fuel pump. from preliminary research this is a known issue that dodge has failed to address with this model. vehicle will not start. have had intermittent propulsion issue which causes the vehicle to be sluggish thus causing a danger to driver and occupants in traffic situations
My wife was driving with my 4 kids aged 13, 11, 8 and 3 when the caravan stalled while in motion at the red light near a major intersection without prior warning. with no power steering or breaks, the van stopped in the middle of the intersection and on coming traffic had to break hard to prevent a collision. boulevard dodge chrysler diagnosed the issue as faulty electrical issue with the fuel pump. the repair cost me $478 (dec. 3 2018). on tuesday jan 15 2019 the car started different electrical problems. when i took the car back to the same dealer they told me the cause is the tipm which would cost about $2000. when i started my research i realized that both issue are related and caused by the tipm. this is an ongoing issue with many models of fca which some vehicles had recalls from fca. i am not the only one who has experiences stalling due to tipm issue on caravan. this is a serious issue and nhtsa as well as transport canada has to protect the public before a serious accident or death occurs. on feb 14 i had more electrical problems this time with an ignition coil default due to the tipm. repair cost $ 265.90. on august 29 the car stalled again in motion while driving on the service road of a major highway. therefore no power brakes or steering. that is beside the fact that the car won't start or has different flashing lights on the dash board.
Driving down the highway at approximately 55 mph battery light came on then all lights on the panel lit up. car rapidly accelerated was able to get car off the road and stopped shut off car due to it randomly accelerating then the key was locked in the ignition. doors will not work and car will not start now
Vehicle stops stating, battery drains. problem diagnosis points to fuel pump, however replacing fuel pump does not resolve the issue. the issue is tpn malfunction. the cost to replace this device is astronomical and the bypass is not fuel efficient, or long lasting.
There are two facets of this issue. first issue: it began starting hard back in november it would crank but not turn over and start. it will often leave us stranded myself and young children for 20-45 minutes waiting for it to start.second issue: the fuel pump will remain running when vehicle is shut off and continue to run till battery is dead. alternator has been replaced in past year and has been tested to be good, battery had to be replaced twice in two years. when diagnosed by a dodge dealership the issue is said to be a power distribution module which costs $1,008.00 not including labor. the part is ordered but on national backorder with no estimated time of arrival.
Van won't start, or shuts off randomly, including while driving. when driving, the engine dies and power steering is lost, making controlled stopping difficult and unsafe. i tested for tipm fuel relay problem using information available online & found it faulty. had to rig a bypass from aux power terminal to fuel pump fuse to power fuel pump at all. this is a known issue for this and other dodge/chrysler vehicles, some of which nhtsa pushed for recall, but not all!!!! this needs recall reconsideration, given how common this problem is across multiple other vehicles that use the exact same tipm. there are literally dozens of videos and hundreds of web posts covering this issue, yet nhtsa has done nothing further, nor has any recall been provided for. when will this get addressed?
I bought my 2011 dodge grand caravan crew in feb 2018. in march my tire sensors starting going off, we replaced all of them with no luck, the gauges would still read they were out. in april, the camshaft sensor went out while we were on vacation, and we replaced it, in florida. in may the camshaft sensor went out again, shortly after having it replaced for the second time, but guess what? it happened a 3rd time! only a week later!!!! so yet again, it was replaced. our van would start acting possessed. wipers would go off while driving down the road & while they were in the off position. the locks would lock and unlock by themselves while driving, seemed like every time it rained out windows would roll down by themselves over night or while we were in a store while the van was shut off. in june the van started stalling while we would drive it. it would randomly die while idling. in july/aug i had my oil changed, the following day my van wouldn't start. while in the moment i thought the shop had done something to it, since i had gotten frustrated with them there, (poor fellas) that clearly was not the case. i was under the impression my fuel pump had went out, so i paid to have that replaced. around sept the van wouldn't start. it would crank but not start. my fuel pump would turn on, after turning the key on and off several times. in oct the fuel pump would run while the van was off, we had to disconnect the positive on the battery so it wouldn't burn up. at this point, my van wouldn't start at all, and the van acted like it was dead. i went and bought a new battery, day after i replaced that, my van needed to be jumped each time i wanted to start it. today on oct 22- is my last straw. thanks fca, a mother and her two young children had to find a ride home because it stalled and shut down while sitting in a drive thru.
Fuel pump relay in tipm failing and may cause car not to start or may cause car to turn off while driving. has failed to start many times and failed to work properly once while in motion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the battery and brake indicators illuminated. an independent mechanic replaced the alternator assembly, but the failure continued. the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the powertrain control module needed to be replaced. the dealer (ganley chrysler of aurora, 161 w garfield rd, aurora, oh 44202, (330) 562-2600) indicated that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed to determine the cause of the failure and that the vehicle was not included in any recall campaigns. the manufacturer was notified and also stated that there was no recall. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000. the vin was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it made a clicking noise and failed to start. the contact was eventually able to start the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Battery light comes on after reaching speeds around 40/50 , than the brake lights come and abs light , car suddenly turns off no longer runs . you guys should have a recall on all alternators and pcm for this vehicle . my wife is pregenat and she got stranded in the middle of a high way because of your faulty vehicle . this car needs to be on a recall for all of those faulty alternators and pcm . not reliable tumbs down for this car , dissapointed on dodge .
Severe electrical issue with engine shutdown while driving on highway, stalls at intersections after dash lights "go crazy," no-start, all dash lights on/off, wipers randomly going on, doors and windows inoperable, killing new batteries, brake light sporadically functional, and a/c in rear randomly changes settings. these incidents occur at random periods with no specific causation.
The sliding door on the drivers side locked shut. we arrived home from an outing on the evening of 8-23-2018 and could not open door. being elderly and disabled i was almost unable to get out of the van. the same thing happened in june, 2017 on the right side door. no one was in the car at the time. we were getting ready to leave and the door would not open. the car was under warranty. the dealer replaced the 'door lock actuator' . i feel this is a safety issue as someone could be trapped in the vehicle. auto is no longer under warranty. i feel it is the same problem as before on the right back door. i feel there should be a way to open the door manually.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the totally integrated power module (tipm) failed, which caused the vehicle to shut off without warning while driving. the failure also caused the doors to lock on their own. in addition, the contact stated that the tipm drained the vehicle's battery. every time she attempted to drive, she had to disconnect and reconnect the battery in order for the battery to function properly. the vehicle was taken to apple ford shakopee (1624 weston ct, shakopee, mn 55379) where it was diagnosed that the tipm needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000.
The tipm in our van has failed, it is a known and common issue for chrysler and they refuse to acknowledge the issue or do anything to fix the issue. it causes multiple electrical system failures and ultimately renders the engine useless at random times when the relay fails. my car will no longer start due to the failure of this part, and the known issues with it.
When the key fob is placed in the ignition and turned to accessory no gauges work and the windshield wipers come on and will not shut off. the vehicle will start but the tach, speedometer, gas gauge and temperature gauge does not work. the windshield wipers continue turn run even though the switch is in the off position.
Dodge caravan 2011, a few times out of a week and month once i use the car and then turn it off once i want to turn it on again it won't start. and it will start about 2 hours or more later. i owned it for a year already and i've been dealing with this for a whole year, i am desperate
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start occasionally. the contact mentioned that there was an abnormal noise coming from the fuel pump. the contact stated that the failure was ongoing and the totally integrated power module needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Vehicle completely shut down while in motion - tremendous safety issue with wife and 4 kids in this vehicle. this is a highly reported issue and obvious defect in model year for this manufacturer. vehicle has had escalating electrical issues for more than 4 years.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge grand caravan. while driving various speeds, both of the sliding doors on the driver and passenger side opened and the power steering seized. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
While driving, my van would suddenly accelerate. it did this multiple times then it wouldn't start. after researching other complaints on this make and model we tried the fuel relay bypass. it fixed the problem for a while be eventually it stopped working. the fuel relay is the problem and needs to be recalled because there isn't a way to permanently fix the problem at this time. dodge issued recalls for the durango and jeep grand cherokee for the same issue.
