We have classified the 794 complaints from 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The entire electrical system went haywire. also note this was at night. headlights and brights flashing/flickering. horn blasting. wipers on full speed (front and rear). wiper washers spraying (front and rear) interior lights flashing, dash lights flashing...it was scary! please help us to fix. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while parked, the horn and the windshield wiper motor activated independently. as a result, the battery needed to be disconnected. in addition, the contact stated that the a/c failed to activate and the doors failed to latch. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.
While driving car win module moves from on position to accessory position causing car to shut off car does not always start even with new battery and starter
While driving the van at 65 mph while on rt.23 on my way to findlay, ohio, the windshield wipers cycled a couple times, the gauges went to zero, the radio turned off and the warning alarm went off a couple times. this occured twice while i was driving to findlay and twice on my way back home. each time, the van continued to run. at the time both hands were on the steering wheel. i know the date because i was headed to my son's soccer game at the university of findlay. it was a very un-nerving experience. on other dates the wipers have run by themselves and even sprayed windshield cleaner for a brief period. i have noticed that other people have reported the same behavior on their vans. i wanted to make sure my experience was noted. it appears the situation can become much worse. *js
When my wife was driving on the highway at 70 mph, with my child. the car died. wife rolled to side of the road and attempted to start it again. the car started and promptly died again but wipers were going at full speed along with the windshield washer fluid pumping out, and the horns and lights turning on and off, she removed the key and it continued. she had already called me and by the time i got there (approx 15 min) it had shut itself off. i tried to restart it with the same problems as mentioned before. i opened the hood and there was a lot of noise coming from the relay box ( tipm ), i unhooked the battery, and the problem "self resolved" fired up car and drove it the 15 miles home. after looking up problem on line, have found that this is a ongoing issue and that the repair part is back ordered nationally, tells me that this is an ongoing issue, chrysler does know about but has not done anything about it. this is a major safety issue. *tr
Several times since approximately august of 2013 the vehicle power has cut off while driving causing loss of power steering. i had the ignition replaced once at my own cost but it did not fix the issue. it has happened several times since then with the latest being in october of 2014. i am aware of the recall but what is the point if there is no fix? the fact that we are still waiting on a fix is unacceptable. this is a safety issue not an inconvenience issue. i have three young children and it is unacceptable that i have to drive them around in an unsafe vehicle because dodge doesn't yet have a fix. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred twice. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
I was driving to work on tuesday august 13, 2013 doing about 60mph, suddenly my windshield wipers came on, the horn started blaring, dashboard gauges stopped working (then started going crazy) and the engine turned off. i was able to pull over to the side of the road, i turned off the ignition removed the key but the nothing in the van would not turn off. the wipers were on, the horn was blaring and the dash gauges were still going crazy. this continued for about 6 to 8 minutes before everything just stopped. after about 3 minutes i was able to start the van and continue to work without issue. i called the dealership and told them the problem (it was in that shop for similar problem 2 weeks earlier) i dropped it off at the dealer the same day and as of today they it is still there (they cannot duplicate the problem?..) i've researched the problem online and i am apparently 1 of hundreds with the same issue with 2008 grand caravans. it is a faulty tipm module. *tr
Please see the link of people with the same type of issues. battery loses voltage. new tipm, battery 4 times, alternator, clock spring, rear hatch micro-switch. have had it into the dealer with no results, same as the other complaints. something is causing the batteries to go dead and no-one can help with it. i have about $2000.00 into it so far. somebody(chrysler) needs to address this problem. please help.... see the attached link. http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2287376/2008-dodge-grand-caravan-intermittent-starting-problem. *tr
The back passenger sliding door keeps opening and closing on it's own. the key fobs can be nowhere on our person and the door continually does this, even when locked. i have seen this complaint numerous times online. something needs to be done. our dog got into the van when the door was open and the door closed trapping her in there. thank goodness my husband saw her and got her out before she died of heat exhaustion. if that had been a child, it could have had a very tragic ending. please use whatever pull you have to make dodge fix this problem before someone is hurt, maimed or killed!! thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that he was unable to remove the key from the ignition and was unable to shift gears. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 76,648.
My wife and i were driving down the road, when the van started to lock and unlock the doors. the next time this happened my three kids were in the van and it was 85 degrees out and the only way we got in was to talk my son into trying to unbuckle his car seat.we have also had a problem with the ac not working witch is great when it is soo humid out. the doors still continue to lock and unlock by themselves at least once a week. *tr
I was driving home last night going about 55mph. suddenly my windshield wipers can on, the horn started blaring, & my gauges quit working. i was able to pull over to the side of the road, i turned the ignition off & took the key out but my van did not turn off. the wipers & horn blaring continued for 3-4 minutes before everything shut off. i was able to restart the van & continue my drive home without issue. this morning i called my local dealership & my van can not be looked at until next week. i've researched online & i am apparently 1 of hundreds who have had this issue with 08 grand caravans. why is there not a recall? *tr
The ignition fobik gets stuck in the socket forcing the car to stay in acc and exhausting the battery. the car can be restarted when this happens and after repeated attempts usually releases the fobik. this often involves forcibly shoving the transmission lever from d to p. i believe this is related to the l25 and r03 recalls as sometimes you can hear an electronic noise when the fobik is locked or released. my primary complaint is that i've called the dealer 4 times or so over the last year since l25 came out asking to fix the problem by fulfilling the recall. each time the dealer, rainier dodge, says they will order parts and get back to me, but never does. i will be calling again this week after problems over the weekend. i'm very dissatisfied with chrysler's response to this potentially serious problem.
The first incident happened on 5/29/13 while my van was parked in my driveway. my vans lights flashed, the horn went crazy, the windshield wipers were going on their own. the car was not started and no key in the ignition. it was sitting there. this lasted about 8 minutes. i went to advanced auto after it stopped and had them check it with the machine. they told me it could be a battery problem but the code machine said the problem was caused by a power surge from a relay. he could not be sure which issue was causing the problem or what relay would do this. i bought a new battery in hopes that would resolve the problem. on 5/30/13 i got home from work and pulled in my driveway. my son asked to borrow my car to go to a friends house. he made it to the end of the road and the horn started beeping, windshield wipers started going, lights started flashing and the van began to accelerate. my son said he turned the key to the off position and removed the key from the ignition. the car continued to run without the key. this lasted for 10 minutes. the van is now parked because i researched the symptoms and came across hundreds if not thousands of the same complains lots of them recent. they all said it was the total ignition power module. i am very confused as to why dodge knows of this problem and has not recalled the vehicles before someone's life is lost. there are so many complaints and the severity of safety at hand over a defective part. i will never buy another dodge again. how can i do business with a company that cares so little for human life. what if i was driving with my 5 children and this caused an accident. what if this hurt or even killed one of them. *tr
After accelerating from a stop light to a speed of approximately to 40 mph, the electronic stability control light illuminated on the dash board. the vehicle lost acceleration power and would not go over 20 mph. after loss of power, driver noticed power steering and brakes were inoperable. driver was able to turn off busy road without incident and glided to a stop. driver turned off vehicle and restarted. after restarting vehicle, it appeared to operate normal. vehicle was driven to dealer immediately for diagnosis and repair. *tr
When the problem first occurred, the car power would blip: the gauges would go to zero, the clock would go off, the lights would flicker on and off. i took it to the dealer and they said they fixed some wiring. after the car was returned, the problem persisted and worsened. now, when the car slowed down (at a stop sign or light) the power would turn off completely, the engine would stall, light would go off, clock would go off, etc. i had to turned the key off and on to start the car again. i took it back to the dealer. they replaced two different parts - the abs module and the main fuse panel for the car. when the car was returned, the problem persisted and got worse again. now the car, when stopped or slowed down, power would shut down completely, shutting everything down as before, but now the key wouldn't turn. i couldn't turn it off or on or do anything for minutes at a time. the car power would suddenly turn back on it's own. so, once again, i took it to the dealer. this time they did a software update to several modules. i just received the car back from that visit on 12/17/14. the problem still persists. on 12/22/14, i lost power in the car while driving at a normal speed (30 mph) going down a hill. the power steering and brakes went out and i had trouble getting the car to a stop. i was finally able to put enough pressure on the brakes to slow the car and pull to the side of the road at the bottom of the hill. since then, i've lost power twice when stopped at stop lights. i've been able to turn the key off and then back on. i called the dealer again. they said that it's most likely related to a recall and there was nothing they could do because they didn't have parts. they advised me to remove all other keys and rings from the ignition key. even after that, i still lost power once so far. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. when the key was turned to the on position, the engine failed to start. the contact was able to start the engine after multiple attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the starter was replaced multiple times; however, the failure persisted. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) however, the parts needed to remedy the recall were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
We went out to car to get in it, and all doors were locked and would not unlock. horn started blaring. windshield wipers went crazy with windshield wiper fluid spraying. headlights were blinking on and off. finally able to get in car, things finally calmed down after about 10 - 15 minutes. next day, we took it to dealership. they tested it, and they said they did not find anything wrong with it. similar episodes happened after that one which included taking the key out of the ignition, and the car was still running. we took it to a different dealership to have it checked, and they said they could not find anything wrong with it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while attempting to start the vehicle, the key became lodged between the on and the accessory position. the contact had to apply force to the key to shift into the on position. in addition, the windows failed to function and hot air was emitting from the air vents into the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the contact stated that four months later, the vehicle failed to start. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable timeframe to schedule the recall repair. the dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. the manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. the contact was not experiencing a failure.
This incident has happened 3 other times in the past. the first incident at about 5,000 miles and the second incident at 22,000 and a third incident at about 45,000. this last incident occurred on the highway traveling at about 67 mph. the headlamps turn off and the horn blares constant. the windshield wipers go at full speed (front and back) and the fluid is spraying everywhere. the doorlocks begin to flicker in the open and lock position. the brake lights are also shut off but the reverse lights are lit up. the tachometer and speedometer go to zero. you can maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and try to shut off the vehicle, but to your surprise the vehicle doesn't shut off. it keeps running! so as you are sitting there wondering what to do and unlock your door manually and then you have to unhook the battery and somehow that works. if you are lucky when you connect the battery back in the system goes back to normal. if your unlucky the horn and windshield wipers are still going strong along with all the other issues. either way this system malfunction is being reported all over the internet and dodge hasn't responded. they are reporting a tipm (total ignition power module) apparently the part is in such demand that you cannot order because they are backordered up to 800 units. *tr
At random times the horn, flashers, and wipers will turn on.this has happened while driving the vehicle and has happened when the vehicle was turned off, without anyone inside the van. disconnecting the battery has been the way to stop the problem. dealer could not find anything wrong and guessed that it was the tipm. this has occurred on numerous occasions and does seam to be a safety issue when the vehicle is in operation. obviously from the number of complaints that i have seen, nhtsa should investigate and chrysler needs to do a recall. *tr
Upon starting my vehicle, the fobik sometimes does not fully seat in the "on" position. sometimes i cannot start my vehicle because the fobik will stick before allowing me to fully turn the key. sometime it will stick where i cannot shut the engine office or the fobik will seat itself into the ignition whereby i cannot remove it. i received a recall notice two years ago. the recall notice stated that dealers did not have the part available. i have yet to be contacted that this part is now available. i have also experienced problems with the cooling system. this has included leaks inside my vehicle, loss of fluid, and fan noise. i've had system repaired numerous times to no avail. is there a recall on the cooling system as well? thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide to address these issues. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that after the vehicle was turned off, the key failed to disengage from the ignition switch. in addition, the contact stated that when the spare key was put into the ignition, the bad key warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the ignition needed to be lubricated. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
a need a recall on tipm part which controls the engine which turns it on and off. now a recall is due>becauase it is the issue with vehicle because now the ealerships are saying it is the issue or what is causing it to turn off.as a dodge owner of a grand caravan, from the time i brought the vehicle there were issues. first it started with the vehicle turning itself off and did start back. so the dealership fix it. then it was the brakes and rotors on the front end. fix , repair, issues again, then issues again. so many other issues with this van later on. but i decided not to complain to dodge company.. boy do i regret it now..it's been almost 4 years now, i still have issues with the engine cutting off while driving. this has gone on for awhile, then recall come out saying it's the engine switch, so now we are waiting on the it, still... when i have did some research and ask some people with computer knowledge on vehicles and they say by the engine cutting off while driving can cause issues with the tipm part (computer). i have taken it so many times to the dealership for this reason for the engine shutting it self off, they would brush it off it's the battery, got new battery then it happen again. then took it back again , no engine light on , then they can't diagnose any issues. now warranty is out.. still no part for the recall engine switch.... 2015. now that the engine is still shutting it self off, dealership is now saying its the tipm part which is 1200. or more... i believe it has been the issue the whole time, so dodge needs to have a recall on this part before someone is kill... i worry about it happening to my family.i have three children. it's our only vehicle.. as of today still no part available.call dodge - no help from them. they need to have a recall on the tipm part before its to late.
Vehicle intermittently has electrical problems. the problems vary in severity. when problems occur there are various symtoms that include instrument cluster not working, windshield wipers operating without being turned on, headlights become inoperative, heat and ac become inoperative, doors lock and cannot be overridden even manually. when problems occur that can last for a few seconds and multiple times or sometimes a continuous for several minutes. *tr
L25 recall for fobik and win safety issues. we have never been able to get this fixed and the parts were on back order all this time. now they have issued r03, which is essentially l25 all over again. and they closed out all the l25 so it looks like that was completed! this appears to be subterfuge and they are not taking care of the problem and leaving owners and passengers unsafe. they do not have the parts available, have not had the parts available and are trying to hide that behind a new recall. this is just plain wrong and dangerous! we had one of our fobik's begin to make all kinds of things happen in our van and we had to dismantle it 3 years ago. it was opening doors and setting off the alarm from inside the house at night. who knows what it would have done in motion.
Turned on ignition and while driving down the road the warning lights all flash on and all gauges go to 0 and wipers are going as well, with the wipers turned off..also the front windows don't go up or down.. *tr
I was sitting in a parking lot with the van idling. all of a sudden the horn started blaring, hazards started flashing, wipers (front & back) were going at full speed. this went on for roughly 3 minutes (felt like a half hour). i tried everything to stop it, but nothing worked. i took the key out of the ignition, but the engine kept running. this happened twice (same scenario) in a span of 10 minutes. this is absurd, and i have read many complaints on this issue. *tr
When driving down the road the lights on the dash board will come on flashing for no apparent reason. while driving on the road or highway also the van will die without any warning. and will slow down with no control , the lights all go dark specially dangerous when it happens while i am on the highway. it does not happen all the time. or a consist manner. you call the dealership they will admit that it is a issue but they have the monopoly on repairs so you have to go to the dealer to get it fix. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while driving various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver without warning. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.
The first incident occurred while care was sitting in the driveway, no key in it. horn started going wipers and wiper fluid started going full speed, and lights started flashing, door locks engaged and could not be stopped by key fob. this continued for about 10 minutes. i had to pull the fuses and disconnect the battery to get it to stop. took the car to dealership twice who stated there is nothing wrong with the van. the van continues to do this intermittently. most recent incident driving down the highway 60 mph with children in the car when all the previous symptoms started to occur and gauges would drop to zero and then back up over and over again. all lights went out at this time and transmission began malfunctioning. i was barely able to pull the car off to the side of the road where it continued to do this for 15 minutes. the third time i took it in they reported it was my tipm and want over $1100 to replace it. i called dodge customer service and explained the issue hoping they would fix it without cost to me or offer some solution. their rep was very rude and told me to try what the dealership suggested. i expressed how it is a design/manufacturing flaw and got the reply, "well ma'am, there is no recall on this so there is nothing we can do". i informed him i would never buy another dodge/chrysler vehicle and received the reply "ok, have a good day". he then hung up on me. this is a serious safety issue and after reading many forums have realized i am not the only one experiencing this issue...dodge needs to be held accountable! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while attempting to enter a residential driveway, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact attempted to restart the engine but the ignition failed to move into the start position. the manufacturer advised that the parts needed to remedy recall nhtsa campaign number 14v373000 (electrical system) were not available. the failure mileage was 81,000.
I am experiencing electrical problems with the 2008 grand caravan. the van cuts off while moving. the lights blink. the radio suddenly turns on. sometimes the doors will not unlock. the problems all appear to be related to the computer malfunctioning in the van. the may cause an accident if the van loses power and control while driving. *tr
On numerous occasions my 2008 dodge grand caravan sxt will shut down unexpectedly while driving. plugs, wires and battery have been changed. win module has been changed at my request and not covered under warranty. the vehicle has been to the dealership numerous times and they have been able to find anything because no codes have been thrown. i replaced the fob recently thinking the key my be worn out but that has not improved the situation. dodge is aware of the issue but refuse to do anything about it until i guess someone id killed. thanks dodge. *tr
I was driving about 5 mph leaving my place of work and the vehicle stalled as i was driving it and i lost power steering and power brakes-very scary-fortunately i was just leaving work and not driving too fast. i was able restart it and drove home without another issue. then a couple weeks later, the vehicle did the same thing. i was going about 10 mph when the vehicle stalled again-no power steering or brakes-very scary!- the vehicle has also failed to turn over for no apparent reason-this has happened at least 3-4 times, i will go to start it -it seems dead-but then i wait a minute and then restart-and it turns over no problem-no rhyme or reason as to why these things occur. *tr
Driving the vehicle on a residential street. engine quit suddenly and unexpectedly. steering and brakes failed. vehicle went off the road, over the curb and came to a stop. no property damage or bodily harm. if we had been traveling at highway speeds, fear of death would have been a real concern. the engine would not start for approximately a minute after the incident. engine finally started and the vehicle was taken to a dodge dealership. diagnosed as a 'bad win module' (wireless ignition node). the technician actually guessed the problem was the win module before diagnosing the problem. he said it was a 'fairly common problem'. an online investigation revealed this part has a recall associated with it in the 2010 dodge grand caravan (our dodge grand caravan is a 2008). the reason i am writing the nhtsa is the newly replaced win module is clearly a redesigned part. it looks and functions differently than the old, faulty win module. if dodge redesigned the part, they must have assumed the earlier design was defective in some way. to justify the need for a redesign, there had to be some driving factor like improved safety. it is my belief that this defect had the real potential of causing death and i am requesting the nhtsa investigate this matter. am i the first to have lodged a complaint regarding this part? thank you for your time and attention. i look forward to your response. *tr
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the key would remain stuck in the ignition switch and fail to power on or off the vehicle. in addition, when driving the steering wheel seized and the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the speedometer, the tripometer, the cruise control and the power doors failed. the power door locks only operated when the vehicle was powered off and the security door lock feature activated intermittently. the contact also stated that both the accelerator and brake pedal traveled to the floorboard as a result the vehicle delayed to come to a stop. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the control module, the transmission leak on the transmission line, the oil pan and the molding needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 14v373000 (electrical system) and nhtsa campaign id number: 11v394000 (air bags and equipment). the approximate failure mileage was unknown. djr
The instrument panel on our 2008 dodge grand caravan will blink off and on, the windshield wipers will go off and on when they are in the off position. the speedometer and tach will "jump" back and forth and the chime will go off each time this happens. i have lost the ability to unlock the doors and roll down the windows from the drivers door also. this does not happen all the time but it has become more frequent the last couple days. no error codes come up when a scan was completed on it which it makes more difficult to pinpoint a cause with the dealer. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the horn, lights and windshield wipers would activate independently. also, the contact mentioned that the power steering assist malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the portal integrated power module was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
Upon entering vehicle pressing keyfob to unlock any door or hatch the horn would start to sound, the windshield wipers (front and rear) would start to go on its on including windshield wiper fluid as well, lights would start to flash as well. i would have to open up the hood and hit the fuse box located next to the battery on the drivers side firewall just to get it to stop. i have taken the vehicle to the dealership on several ocassions to no avail because they cannot duplicate the problem and now i am out a diagnostic fee of $94.00 x2 and the cost of a rental car both times for my wife and three children because my 100% full warranty does not cover the cost of the rental because the problem could not be duplicated. after searching and reading about this problem that my wife and i are having with this cara van i think something should be done before someone is seriously hurt or killed by the caravan doing something that it was not asked to do!!!! *tr
Intermittent electrical issues - fails to start; interior dash panel lights, driver side passenger door not closing, drivers door not locking - all intermittent
The car was parked stationary at the top of a hill. it started to roll down the hill while it was off. three children were in the car. their brother tried to stop the car, and got caught under the car wheel, and died. the car was in park. ..updated 10/11/17 *bf *tr
My vehicles windshield wipers will automatically come on and the instrument panel will flash or go to zero while operating the van. my van has also stalled while driving at low speeds. this happens anywhere from a few times a week to severals times a day. i've had the dealer look at my vehicle and a non -dealer mechanic and neither can find a problem. i have researched on the internet and found thousands of people with the same complaint. i am afraid sometimes that my vehicle will stall while crossing a busy intersection and cause an accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that she attempted to unlock the vehicle with a new key fob however, the vehicle would not unlock. after the contact was able to enter the vehicle, the vehicle could not be started. the contact had to tap the fuse box to turn on the vehicle. the windshield wipers then engaged independently with wiper fluid gushing out. the failure recurred frequently as the horn sounded independently as well. the contact stopped and turned off vehicle but the failures persisted. the contact had to tap on the fuse box to have the windshield wipers and horn stop. the fuse box was located under the hood on the driver's side near the battery. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, no assistance was provided. the current and failure mileage was 93,496.
my 2008 dodge grand caravan has intermittent trouble starting. the starter has been replaced twice, and the win module (and key) have been replaced. the same issue has been occurring, but never duplicates for the dealership. their computer scan brings up no issues. the battery has been tested and is in good condition. it doesn't matter the time of day, or driving circumstances, the van will not always start. it will have one click (and i can close the windows, turn on radio) but the van will not start. *tr
Went to turn my lights on and they turned on then off then on again and then off. and now they will not turn on. everything else works, parking lights, dimmer etc. i had a diagnostic run and it showed the following trouble codes: b162f,b,c ; b1633, b1634, b1637. which all points to the tipm control module. so i called the shop, they called to find the part and there is none available. there are on backorder, about 800 of them to be exact. so that means that i have no headlights until 800 other people get theres. next thing to go is the wipers, horn and then the car to shut off as i'm driving. obviously if 800 of these are on back order there is an issue with them. *tr
After shutting vehicle off the headlights, interior lights, or parking lights will stay on indefinitely, resulting in draining the battery to zero. the only solution is to disconnect the battery for ten minutes. dealer could not diagnose problem. *tr
Purchased this vehicle 6/30/2012 1st incident 8/2012 driving down highway at 65 mph at night in wooded area so it was pitch black and headlights shut off, wipers running and spraying fluid, horn started blaring, outside lights went crazy, gauges went nuts, and power steering went out. pulled over when we were able (two lane road w/no shoulders) and after a few minutes went back to normal and ran just fine. the second time it happened was in 10/2012 basically same thing was returning from son's football game on a friday night at midnight and headlights went out, wipers going crazy, and horn blaring, lights going off. didn't do it again for awhile then since 3/2013 about every 2 to 3 weeks we have this same issue, van can be sitting in drive and still does it. i have had my children in the car on numerous occasions when this has happened and it scares us all to death. we have almost been hit from behind on more than one of these occasions when power steering went out while making a turn, (it slowed the vehicle down to manually turn it) which i could barely do, and almost received a ticket for faulty equipment due to the brake and reverse lights going off on their own (cop gave me a warning this time) after looking up the issue and talking to a mechanic it is a faulty tipm (totally integrated power module), which by the way has been on "backorder" for more than 18 months cause i've been calling on it since 10/2012. i have researched and apparently this is an ongoing issue with this vehicle, there are over 200 of the 420 complaints on this site about this very issue and thousands more online, yet there has not even been an investigation? i guess the nhtsa is not as concerned about safety as they claim to be! there needs to be a recall done for this model and the years affected for the faulty part that's going to end up with someone seriously injured or dead! *tr
