Significant rusting has spread on the driver side rear wheel corner panel and beneath the sliding door rocker panel, leaving large areas of visible rust and missing paint, as well as revealing eroded/chipped chunks of metal of the undercarriage. multiple body shop exams have shown that this problem has originated from the inside out, leaving little to no easy fix. there is also minor rusting of the same sort on the passenger side of the van as well. expert consultants have determined that this damage may result in serious hazard if/when the rocker or panel portions of the affected areas drop from the vehicle and damage either of the rear tires. this also poses a risk to any traffic that may be trailing the vehicle at the time parts separating due to rust. independent research has shown that chrysler has removed critical requirements, such as galvanization, as design-to-cost measures that have contributed to the increase in these problems in the field. chrysler should recall, and if not, then a class action suit should be pursued to hold chrysler responsible for these well known design deficiencies.

Clear coat and paint is peeling off leaving rust on this van it should not be doing this we have older cars not doing this at all , i see a lot of dodger vans doing this very same thing.

I activated the passenger side automatic sliding door. there was a pop and a flash indicative of an electrical short and the door no longer opened or closed automatically. i inspected the wires and found that two wires were broken and possibly made contact with each other, causing an electrical short. the vehicle was inside my garage at the time and no one was inside. however, this is a dangerous situation should the vehicle catch fire because of the flimsy wiring on the doors. the driver side door stopped working two days later, but with no pop or flash. i noticed several other vehicles had the same problem, and there are several documented cases of the same problem throughout the web. *tr

The power function to both rear sliding doors failed within the past 18 months, the right rear sliding door will not open manually now. it will move approximately 2 inches, then stop and no matter how much physical force you apply, the door remains in that position. should someone need to make an emergency egress from the vehicle they could not using this door. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact also stated that the shifting had to be tampered in order to restart the vehicle after multiple attempts. in addition, the automatic door on the driver side would not close properly, which caused her to drive the vehicle with the door completely open. the problem recurred multiple times. also, the driver side air bag warning light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic for a diagnosis and the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

Power door locks fail to operate either with switches or key fob on some of the doors. can't get into the vehicle on doors that don't have key holes. doors don't lock when leaving vehicle parked causing potential theft opportunity. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 30 mph, the passenger's sliding door erroneously opened. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 158,700.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the door lock system failed. the two sliding doors, the driver and the passenger's side door would not open electronically and could only be opened manually. the contact reset the door lock system himself however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 104,000.

The left side rear sliding door stopped working in june 2013 by only opening about 3 inches and stopping, then later started not unlocking automatically. you then had to either pull the door open or pull it shut. in july of 2014 the right side rear sliding door stopped working and unlocking automatically. we actually started having problem with it shortly after we bought it in april 2005. if you had it open, it would occasionally not close at all even manually until you pulled on it for a while. we took it to the dealer more than once and they said nothing was wrong with it. now, both have to be manually unlocked and on occasion the right side will open automatically after you manually unlock it. neither of the rear sliding doors lock or unlock automatically with the button on the headliner, the automatic button on the door, or with the key. the left door does not even want to open manually from the inside. this gets scary when you have a baby seat on the other side and others have left the vehicle before you and you have no one to open the door and are unable to climb over the front seats due to health issues. when we bought the van we were shown at the dealer how the doors would stop if there was a hand, foot, or something in the doorway to avoid injury, so could the mechanicals that work this be at fault?? we never wanted to try this to see, but this is about where the door stops working on the left side. i noticed that there are many, many complaints about these doors not working. i believe this to be a safety issue and cannot understand with all the complaints why this issue has not been addressed by chrysler. to be honest we have had multiple issues with this van since we bought it and spoke to lots of people with the same complaints. we feel there needs to be a recall. *tr

My daughter 8 can not open the sliding doors in the back because the button is to hard to push also on one side you can not open it from the inside and i think this should be checked on it is a safety hazard. *tr

Passenger side power sliding door would not unlock manually or with any of the remote buttons. problem was resolved by replacing defective right side sliding door actuator. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the passenger side sliding door could not be locked or unlocked automatically. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the door inspected. the dealer did not provide the inspection report. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 84,950.

Driver's side automatic sliding door only opens a few inches and then stops. the door will not close automatically at all i hear are loud clicks like the locks are being engaged. the door can only be opened or closed manually. the problem occurs every time either of the 2 inside buttons are pressed or the key fob button is pressed. the doors are clearly not geared for manual opening/closing, that is, they are extremely difficult to open or close manually. this is major a concern as it is very difficult to get out of the vehicle for someone sitting in any of the rear seats. *tr

I pushed the button to open the sliding doors and there have been so many times when the door will close without having been told to. typically, the sensor will catch when there is a hand or a child pushing it back open, but there have been occasions, like today that it started to open, then about 18 inches after it had begun opening that it reverses and closes and does not have the sensor kick in. today the door slammed into my left shoulder. i had to use all my strength to push it off my shoulder and to override the motor to get it to open. i am so grateful my 2 year old was still on the shipping cart because that would have crushed his hand if he wasn't able to get out of the way. most times it is the passenger side siding door that does this. last week was the first time that the drivers side door did the same thing, which pinned my wrist between the door and the frame, and tried to close on it twice. i am personally afraid that one of these times the door is going to forcefully close and cause some severe damage to one of my children. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the locks on the doors either could not locked automatically when driving or the locks would engage independently. the failure would recur whether the contact used the automatic key fob or the key manually. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a mechanic for diagnostics or repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue however no assistance was provided. the current mileage was 140,000. the failure mileage was 138,000.

The vehicle is not properly sealed. the grounds were all corroded and letting moisture or salt into components. first thing that happened was all the lights came on and then all went out. couldn't see speed or gears. i have had to replace the basic control module and having the body control module checked out today. everything under the hood is corroding at a fast pace. you can see even the metal on the engine. i hoping my wiring harness is ok. but the tech hasn't gotten that far yet. *tr

Door locks on sliding doors will not work. van has been back to dealer 2 times on this. this is a unsafe condition. *tr

The automatic door locks stop working. this has been discussed on the internet quite a bit. the problem is that the door will not lock or unlock with the key fob or door switch. the also do not automatically lock when the car starts moving thus creating a safety concern for kids riding in the back. removing the negative battery terminal resets it so that it works again briefly. the problem recurs again after a brief time. *tr

I purchased a dodge grand caravan new in 2005. yesterday i had a flat tire and tried to access the spare tire. it was impossible as it was frozen in place. i called my local dealership and they suggested i use a pry bar to free it. i believe this is a design flaw and that many people are driving around believing they have a spare tire while in reality, the spare is inaccessible. i could have been stranded or in an unsafe area. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he attempted to lock the doors using the key fob and the doors would not lock. the contact was able to successfully lock the doors manually. the contact replaced the fuses for the door locks, but the failure recurred after a few weeks. the contact again replaced the fuses, but the failure continued. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000. the vin was unavailable.

Electrical door lock system failed. rear sliding door opened by itself. *tr

Automatic door locks have failed, and the automatic sliding doors have failed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated the slide electric door does not open electronically or manually. the contact has not taken the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the contact stated that children can not exit the vehicle on the passenger side. the children have to exit on the driver side which exits into to ongoing traffic and it a serious safety issue. the failure mileage was 55,970.

We locked the vehicle with the remote, saw the door closing, and when we returned, the passenger sliding door was wide open! since the original failure date, this happens continuously. the door closes almost all the way, and then reverses, and opens up. we have to manually shut the sliding door (difficult) in order to close and lock it. did not notify manufacturer or dealer. *tr

Right side van door stopped closing and opening correctly. it gets stuck part-way. now it doesn't close properly or lock, you have to work hard to close it. *tr

I found on the internet that a bought 63 complaints about the power sliding doors on my 05 dodge grand caravan well i hate to be 64 but i was led to the problem in side the wiring harness there is a red and black wire the door will stop working when the wire breaks and gets exposed there are a lot of complaints that these wires need to be fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the rear automatic sliding door on the driver's side began to slide open. the failure recurred on an intermittent basis. the contact also stated that the sliding door no longer functioned automatically and he had to open and close the door manually. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin was unavailable.

Power sliding door motor failure and malfunction. *tr

Automatic sliding doors fail to operate. *tr

Roof seem cracking around the roof, leading to rusting. *tr

My young daughter was able to open the sliding door on our 2005 dodge caravan at highway speeds ! apparently the automatic door locks failed to operate, and my research online indicates this is a common failure mode. dealer update software flash rom but problem recurred shortly thereafter. *tr

My 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt minivan has two power sliding doors. both power sliding doors have failed. it is difficult to open the doors manually. i am requesting that dodge issue a recall to fix the numerous 2005 dodge grand caravan power sliding doors that have failed. *tr

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan and have had nothing but electrical problems with it. our automatic sliding door on passenger side has been repaired once already and quit working about 6 months later. our power door locks now will not work with either the key fob or from inside on the switch. the lights on the dash go out and come on a various times. these are serious issues and dealerships are charging an arm and leg to just look at it and you still aren't guaranteed how long it will remain functional.*tr

2005 dodge grand caravan, 54,000 miles, passenger side door would close to within 6-8 inches using electronic buttons or key and stop. was able to open and close manually for a day or two, then was not able to open door at all. after trying several times, was finally able to open door from outside. how in the world could anyone, my grandchildren for instance, get the door open in an emergency. *tr

Dodge 2005 grand caravan. driver side door would refuse to open with inside button by door. would open if pushed console button. the door would decide that it was not closed properly and fully open while driving. (very dangerous). the passenger side would open only if you used the key bob and had a jerky motion that would trip a sensor and close the door(usually on a passenger getting in or out of the vehicle. the door was adjusted and door motor replaced. still had a problem with the door occasionally bumping the side of the vehicle. verified that the vehicle had not been in an accident and resolved by leaving the plastic interior door cover off. the problem with the doors opening and closing by themselves was found in both cases to be linked to the door wiring harness. also both door refuse to lock (not a thing that you check when looking at a car and was found by accident) searching the internet showed that this was a well known problem. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan sxt, drivers side automatic sliding door does not work.or lock. *tr

Driver's side automatic sliding door only opens 6-8", then stops. must be manually opened/closed. problem recurs every time automatic control is engaged, and doors are clearly not geared for manual opening/closing... this is a concern as it is very difficult to get out of the vehicle if in any seats other than front. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated the rocker panel under the rear sliding doors was completely rusted. the contact took the vehicle to a body shop associated with the manufacturer who informed that there was a foam used by the manufacturer which caused the metal to rust once sustained with water. the contact notified the manufacturer and they stated that this was normal wear and tear. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 71,000.

Driving down a highway, and the right rear window of our 2005 dodge grand caravan (63k miles) just fell out at ~60 miles per hour. there was no warning, the car has never been in an accident, the window was not vented, and nothing was up against the window. we are fortunate that this happened while we were in the right lane, and it was the right side of the car, so the window probably fell to the side of the road. we are also fortunate that we did not have anything fall out the window that could have caused an accident. we reported the incident (informally) to the police so that they could drive by the area where it occurred to ensure there were no road hazards. we have nothing to explain why the window fell out. we contacted chrysler and they concluded it was not a defect. i'm not sure how they came to that conclusion, but they seem content that this could have happened without any explanation. chrysler provided no help in covering the $700 charge to replace the window. also, when i asked which government agency i should contact to report this as a safety issue, they would not give me an answer. they only stated that the incident will be kept in our own "personal" file, and implied that keeping this information in a private file is sufficient. i disagree, and feel that this complaint should be known to the nhtsa in case there are other similar occurrences. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan, driver side sliding door locks don't work using the key fob or the electric switch. nor does the automatic open work using the key fob or electric switch. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan sliding door opening / closing problems. is it the wiring harness? i have seen hundreds if not thousands of individuals with this problem. door opens slightly then stops. most dangerous part is that it will not cycle to fully pull the door in and close completely. i found broken wire in the track and replaced. but the problem still persists. it is a daily problem and the great engineers at chrysler should be held accountable for this faulty design!!! *tr

Our drivers side power sliding door is now on it's 3rd or 4th motor. dealership replaced it, then my last one was installed by my independent garage. dodge knows they have a issue with these. the passenger power sliding door has also had the motor replaced, and i just had the harness replaced due to a broken wire in it. once again, dodge knows these have problems, according to my dealership. these items should be recalled and replaced for free. the van only has 52k miles on it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. while driving approximately 45 mph on normal road conditions, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the indicator remained lit until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was caused by corrosion in the wire connector and the front driver's side impact sensor. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v192000 (airbags,frontal,sensor/control module), although the failures were identical. the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 71,800. updated 05/05/09 *bf the drivers side sliding door was difficult to open manually and the passenger sliding door did not open all the way. updated 05/07/09. *jb
