We have classified the 53 complaints from 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Airbag light illuminated.... there is a recall affecting 2005 - 2006 dodge grand caravan / town and country airbags its saying my vin has 0 recalls this is false data. my light flickers on and off and according to the book if light is illuminated my airbags won't deploy this is a serious safety concern for my family. i bought this vehicle used and the light came on about a week after i bought it during a rain.
My air bag light is on and i don't know if the sensors were recalled on my van
I rear ended a vehicle and no air bags were inflated. i just bought the vehicle from a private owner. i was traveling about 25 mph when traffic stopped immediately. i hit my brakes but not soon enough. the vehicle i hit had no damage. i have a broken bumper and bent hood.
In 2013, the airbag sensor light came on as i was driving. i went to the dealership and was told it was the seat belt tensioner, which they replaced. two years later, the airbag light came on again as i was driving and i took it to a local garage. i was told it was the seat belt tensioner again and they replaced it. the airbag light came on again in 2016 and they cleaned it out. on march 4, 2017, the airbag light came on again and i was told it was the seat belt tensioner again. as of march 5th, the light no longer comes on. i know there was a recall on the 2005 dodge grand caravan on the front crash sensor in 2010 (ntsa campaign id 10v008000). i was told previously that my vin number was affected. however, i'm beginning to wonder if that's not the case.
Airbag light just came on.flashes intermittingly ,sometimes when braking, sometimes when accelerating.from my research,it seems like the clock spring is defective.my mileage is 150,000 miles. weather has been very rainy in southern calif. recently(after years of drought-like weather).reading of other vans having problem on east coast.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v008000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
There is a documented defect in the front airbag sensors that resulted in a chrysler "safety improvement" campaign limited to mainly northern states. my car has this problem but has been in florida for its whole life. clearly they recognize that there is a defect in this part but will not issue a recall for florida-based cars. can you make them expand this recall to all 2005 dodge caravans since it is a clear danger that they are not fully responding to.attached is what i found on the internet. chrysler referred me to a local dealer who will charge me for the repair if chrysler doesn't pay for it and they have made no commitment to pay if the defect turns out to be what they have recalled other vehicles of the same year and model for. the chrysler case number is 29905594 given the significant safety risk of this defective part can you expand this from a safety campaign to a full recall for all cars of this model year.
I was involved in an accident while in motion at 35 miles per hour in san antonio texas on a dry, 4 lane street, whereas a truck ran a stop on 5/6/2016. my vehicle frontend traveling straight on a level surface, 4 lane street & struck the other vehicle causing my vehicle to be totaled. i was wearing my seatbelt & suffered lower back, neck & left phemur injuries. i went to the hospital for emergency care. since february 2016 i wrote letters to the car dealership whom dold me this vehicle & no response.
Stopped at the traffic light and proceeded through the intersection. the vehicle was in motion and suddenly accelerated. tried to slow the vehicle down using the brake pedal which would not engage or press down. car continued to accelerate faster. continued to try to break the car and slow down. brakes did not respond. tried to change the gear to neutral or park. car kept accelerating. pulled off the road into the curb and through a fence. as the car was approaching the building at high speed. turned the car off and it continued into a concrete block commercial building and bounced back about 15-20 feet and stopped at that point. front-end damage to the car. knocked concrete block wall and door down. blessed to be alive. car was totaled. also, the air bag did not deploy. police said that the throttle must have been stuck open.
The air bag light stays lit and wont turn off. reset battery and lights still stay on. the light came on when the van was in the parked position.
My airbag warning light recently came on and is staying on. *js

Chrysler performed recall for front crash sensors on november 2011 air bag light on 7/3/2014. same issue even after recall. *tr
I was going through a drive-thru when my knee accidentally bumped the key in the ignition and the vehicle cut off. i turned it back on and bumped it again to test it, and it happened again. i tried it while the vehicle was in park as well as in drive and reverse and it happened each time. i recently read about the gm / dodge /chrysler ignition and airbag issues, but my vehicle year is not being investigated or recalled. i demand that the investigation and recalls are expanded to include models going back to at least 2005, including any vehicles with this engineering or part defect. *tr
Air bags light came on. *tr
On april 18, 2014, consumer made an appointment at lithia dodge in kennewick washington with the sole purpose to check to see if the air bag warning light on their 2005 dodge grand caravan being on constantly was covered under the nhtsa recall 10v008000 "front airbag crash sensor failure". when consumer arrived for the appointment on april 21, 2014, the dealership indicated without looking at the vehicle or checking the vin that the van may or may not be covered under the recall. they just didn't know. they could do a diagnostic on the vehicle, though: if the vehicle was covered under recall, the visit would be free. if the vehicle wasn't under recall, they would charge a $125 "diagnostic fee" to tell the consumer that it wasn't under recall. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact also stated that the shifting had to be tampered in order to restart the vehicle after multiple attempts. in addition, the automatic door on the driver side would not close properly, which caused her to drive the vehicle with the door completely open. the problem recurred multiple times. also, the driver side air bag warning light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic for a diagnosis and the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, he lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid a road animal. the contact crashed forcefully into the side of a ditch, went airborne and then crashed into a tree. the air bags failed to deploy with the impact. the contact sustained injuries to the head, wrist and hand. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to a collision center. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 146,500.
In april of 2013, the air bag warning light illuminated on the dashboard. took it to the dealer to check. found that the right sensor was not working properly and that there were "broken wires." repaired the wiring and said that all was okay. i was charged over $220 for this repair. there was a 2007 recall for this issue and my car supposedly had the front sensors replaced at that time. then, in june of 2014, the same air bag warning light appeared again. this time i researched recalls and found out that there was another recall in 2010 for this same issue. after contacting chrysler services, i was told to go back to the dealer and they would perform the repair/replacement at no cost. after they performed the work, which they said again was a broken wire, i was charged another $200. they stated that it had nothing to do with sensor, just the wiring, and therefore was not covered by the recall. just waiting to see when it will happen again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated on an intermittent basis. in addition, the horn became inoperable sporadically. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they advised her that the clock spring failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised her that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 10v008000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). the failure and current mileages were approximately 64,000.
The airbag dash lights came on and have not shut off. after researching i found that there is a recall for this problem only when i call i'm told the service for this has already been done. i explained that it had not, that i had never taken it in for this before. he stated it had been done in 2007, yet this recall wasn't in effect until june of 2010. i called him out on that and all he could say was that i don't qualify. according to nhtsa campaign id number : 10v008000 my car is included in this recall. what can i do? *tr
Apparently a faulty airbag sensor light means that possibly airbags may not deploy in a collision or accident. i have contacted the dealer from where i purchased the vehicle and also check for recalls via the internet and according to the vin # , it is not listed, but over 300,000 2005 grand caravans have. why not mine? *tr
Air bag sensor light stays on now and the horn does not work when pressed, but will work when the panic button is pressed. *tr
My airbag warning light came on about 2 years ago. i have had my van in several times for service and no one has paid attention to the warning light. when i had my van in this last weekend due to faulty headlights and had the warning light tested. i was told that the airbag system is not functional. so, i have no working airbags in my van currently. *tr
Dash board lights and interior lights went out came on again for five minutes and went back out. *tr
I was involved in a major front end head on collision and my airbags failed to deploy. my husband was a passenger and hit the windshield. i was told by the garage where it was towed to that if my airbags had deployed they would have totaled my van out due to the extensive damage to the front end. i am very angry at dodge! why have airbags if they don't work and fail to go off. thankfully my husband wasn't killed. he is injured pretty bad though. bad job dodge! you should be ashamed to put your customers lives at risk!!!!! *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan, known issue, airbags failure to deploy. they have known about this issue for a few years and are only now doing the recall. my husband was in a front end collision at over 40mph, lots of damage, and the airbags did not deploy. i've confirmed with chrysler that my model was one of the vins listed in the recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact was exiting a ramp when she fell asleep behind the wheel. the vehicle spun out and crashed into a ditch. the air bags did not deploy. the front end of the vehicle was damaged. the police arrived on scene to assist. a police report was available. the contact was not injured. the vehicle was not drivable and was towed from the scene. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 20,000.
My 2005 dodge grand caravan door locks stopped working and when car drives 20mph they no longer automatic lock, this is a safety issue with children. when contacting dodge they said its a software update that is needed. since when do we buy cars and then need to pay hundreds to have the software updated. with thousands of complaints on the internet with the same problems and no body wants to make this a recall. i guess dodge/chrysler are waiting for a child to be killed before making this a recall. if any of my children get hurt there will be a lawsuit. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated the air bag sensor warning light illuminated intermittently until it remained illuminated. the contact located a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 10v008000- air bags: frontal: sensor/control module) but was advised by the dealer that his vin was not included. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic found that the right up front acquisition sensor experienced a loss of communication which caused the air bag warning light to illuminate. the mechanic advised he was unable to repair the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 67,000 and the current mileage was approximately 70,000. updated 11/08/10 *bf the mechanic informed the consumer he could not ascertain whether or not the air bags would fully function in the event of an actual accident. he was only able to determine that the right up front acquisition sensor had a loss of communication. updated 11/10/10
Recently found the air bag light come on. the problem persisted after the clock spring was replaced. the problem was traced to front airbag impact sensors and sub wiring harnesses. i found many complaints and recalls based on the year and state the vehicle is in. my car was originally sold in virginia and i bought it used in nc. if the car was still in virginia, it would have been covered under the august 2007 recall. the recall should be expanded to read "any vehicle purchased in theses states xxxx is subject to this recall". *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the air bag sensors were rusted. the dealer stated the failure was normal because of the salt on the roadway. the sensors were replaced. the failure mileage was 96,356 and the current mileage is 102,000. updated 08/13/10. *lj updated 08/23/10*jb

Air bag light comes on. this is the same issue covered by nhtsa campaign id number : 04v480000 nhtsa action number: ea04013. but my vehicle was manufactured after the end of the recall.the dealer diagnosed the problem as exactly what the recall issue is. there doesn't seem to be any resolution to this issue on newer models as i have seen similar complaints on other websites about the same issue by other dodge & chrysler owners. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the air bag light started coming on when i was driving. i received a letter from chrysler indicating that the front airbag sensors may crack and they will be covered under a lifetime warranty. however when i took the car to a dealer they said the clockspring mechanism was bad and not covered by the warranty and it would cost $250 dollars to replace. in addition i had to pay $85.00 for the diagnosis which was recommended by chrysler. i am convinced that my sensors are defective. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. while driving approximately 45 mph on normal road conditions, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the indicator remained lit until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was caused by corrosion in the wire connector and the front driver's side impact sensor. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v192000 (airbags,frontal,sensor/control module), although the failures were identical. the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 71,800. updated 05/05/09 *bf the drivers side sliding door was difficult to open manually and the passenger sliding door did not open all the way. updated 05/07/09. *jb
Air bag light comes on. this is the same issue covered by recall campaign 07v192000 nhtsa action ea06003 but my vehicle was manufactured 4 months passed the end of the recall.the dealer diagnosed the problem as exactly what the recall issue is. *tr
Check air bag light kept coming on and off. check air bag light consistently stayed on. checked internet for recalls. found nhtsa campaign id #07v192000. however, our vehicle was not included as part of the recall. took vehicle in to have it inspected. technician found no left impact sensor communication. sensor was replaced and wiring was repaired. technician confirmed that the sensor component had brass bushings as noted in the recall. we have the part in question. chrysler was then contacted at 1-800-853-1403 and informed of the problem. chrysler customer service would not agree to pay for the repair as stated in the recall. we were told to contact chrysler 's reimbursement center regarding our case #318265532 for the left sensor. we are filing this complaint to inform you that our vehicle is affected and should be included in the recall. the right sensor has the same brass bushings and needs to be replaced, as this is a safety issue. *tr
Air bag lamp on clock spring was replaced 10/31/07 air bag lamp on clock spring was replaced 12/15/08 was beyond 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. *tr
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) driving in snow to work one morning, there came a squeal (alternator) then lights on dashboard on. after i made it to the highway which is plowed. the airbag light never came off. took it in for repair and it was the passenger air bag. this year the same thing happened, the squeal and after a trip to repair a evg sensor the dealership informed me that i now have the driver's side and passenger side air bag sensors are corroded. i do have an extended warranty which does not cover this "environmental issue" and a complaint to dodge's 800# [xxx] declared it also an "environmental" issue not covered! [xxx] said that i should contact the road commission as they are the ones that put the salt on the road. i have not correct the problems as i don't believe it is an expense that i should pay for. i bought the van in 2005 with an extended warranty that was to cover all. i did some research on chrysler's past recalls on airbag sensor and believe that there is an issue with their products and the way they are installed. *tr
My 2005 grand caravan had the air bag indicator illuminated. the dealership replaced the 2 front sensors, explaining the problem was due to corrosion (same as nhtsa action number pe05061). he said that although this was the same problem as with the recall, that my vehicle was not a covered vehicle. note this is a high road salt usage area. after reading through some of the complaints on this vehicle, especially those where there were injuries due to non-air bag deployment, i worry for the safety of my family. it makes me wonder if the manufacturer cares if people are injured due to safety feature malfunctions. *tr
Normal driving, vehicle has been involved in no accidents. at about 34,000 miles on vehicle, and 3 and a half years old, airbag light on dash started illuminating. would turn off sometimes, but usually stayed on. dealer diagnosed failure of "clockspring" in steering column, which had to be replaced at cost of about $250.00. *tr
