On average, the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan starts to “feel” problems with the LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES and its various aspects after 94 594 miles.

Recently reported LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES problems on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Auto door locks on my 2005 grand caravan sxt stopped working with no warning. also will not lock or unlock with remote. they are suppose to lock at 19 mph. 51000 miles on vehicle. its a computer thing and is not safe. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan srt door locks don't work. disconnecting negative battery terminal and removing and replacing the 40 amp fuse evidently resets the computer and they now work. it has been reported that the fix is temporary. i will wait to see how long they work. *tr

Power door locks do not work properly. practically not at all. *tr

The automatic locks just suddenly stopped working, which is a huge safety issue on a minivan with kids. i went online and discovered tons of people had the same problem with 2005 grand caravan/caravan. there is a quick, temporary fix of removing the 10d 20a fuse or the negative cable on the battery, but the problem apparently recurs with ever diminishing periods of time in between. the permanent fix is apparently an update to the software, which clearly states that dodge/chrysler is aware of the problem, that it is a problem with their engineering, and that they are only too happy to take money from consumers to fix a safety problem inherent in their faulty design. it should be recalled and fixed by them before we start hearing about tragedies, especially as this occurs without notice. *tr

Automatic door locks quit working. trouble with car computer after battery change. *tr

Hello, i unfortunately own a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt. although i love the way the vehicle drives, i can't say that it has been dependable at all. all the failures are common amongst other owners, but one noteworthy one is the problem with the door lock that i would like to bring to your attention. after 44k miles all the power door locks on this vehicle will fail simultaneously. the only door that has a manual key lock is the driver's door. the doors will not function with they remote door opener or by the switches within the vehicle. this failure is commonplace with all late model dodge caravans. please see this web link as an example; http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock this problem is related to a software/firmware issue with the onboard computer. attempts to repair this issue seem to be temporary. i (like many others) feel dodge should take responsibility in this matter. the mere fact that the rear door is fully electronic and can not be opened at all under this condition should be a safety issue. i fear that in an accident, or case of fire, not having all doors available in a panic situation could be fatal. please advise. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan 48,000 miles. power door locks failed. disconnected battery and cleaned terminals: locks worked for a week. replaced battery and they worked for another week. consulted web forum, which recommended removing door lock fuse for 5 seconds. this worked for another week. now believe that body control module (bcm) needs replacing, which is expensive (over $700). web forums reveal hundreds of same complaints about '05 caravan. big safety problem is that when remote lock is activated, horn beeps, signifying doors are locked, though they are not. this poses the danger that someone could enter the van at night undetected and assault the driver or hijack the car when owner returns. chrysler corp. should be compelled to fully repair this fault by a general recall. *tr

Power doors and locks don't work, despite flash of headlights and horn beep indicating that they do work. found on the web that you can pull one of the 20 amp fuses for a temporary fix but this keeps happening more and more frequently. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the door locks failed and the doors could not be opened from the interior or exterior of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test and located the failure at the electronic module. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 103,000. updated 03/07/11*lj updated 04/22/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that all of the door locks stopped working in her vehicle four months ago. she called the dealer and was informed that a diagnostic would cost $300. the dealer also stated that the computer in the door locks needed to be reset. the failure has recently recurred. the failure mileage was 99,950.

The door locks stoped working with the remote or inside button. happened twice in two weeks and i understand it will be recurring. re-booted computer. *tr

The power locks on this vehicle stopped working correctly. i have looked online and many other people have the same issue. the manufacturer should have to pay to fix this issue. the only fix is to have the computer reflashed at a dealer at a cost of around $400. i have locked myself out of my vehicle a few times because the door locks will just intermittenly lock for no reason or if you put the windows down, the doors will lock. it is a mess. this is an obvious flaw with the manufacturing of the vehicle and the manufacturer should have to fix it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the power door locks do not work at all. when the battery is disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnected, the power locks still did not work. the computer must be reprogrammed in order for the locks to work again. the dealer stated that they would repair the failure at the contact's expense. the contact has researched several complaints regarding the same failure that he is experiencing. the failure and current mileages were 41,000.

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. it has power door locks. the locks will not operate from inside the vehicle or from the keychain. not being able to lock and unlock this vehicle makes it very difficult with two young children. the safety feature that locks the doors when the vehicle is going over 18 mph is also not working. the only doors that has key unlock are the driver door and the rear door. i have found a website that has many others with the same problem. this should be recalled. please look at this website, and help us get this fixed. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. thank you *tr

The doors fail to lock at 18 mph, and upon exiting the car with the key fob. it occurs randomly, consequences are the doors are not locked while driving (you can't lock it), and when you leave the car, the doors are unlocked. removing and replacing the iod fuse seems to correct the problem for a period of time. *tr

Power locks fail to operate. i am being told this is a common problem on the 2005 grand caravan and that it is a problem with the ecm. why has this not been recalled? *tr

The power door locks on our 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt stopped working, including the auto-lock feature when the vehicle hits 20 mph. the internal power locks did not work and using the remote to lock or unlock the vehicle also did not work. the internal auto side door opener mounted with the information center did not work as well as the chimes that sound when the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open. after searching the internet, i found that pulling the oid fuse for 5 seconds had worked for a large number of other people who all have encountered this problem. pulling and reinserting the fuse has corrected the problem for the time being. (forum link where solution found: http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/dodge-grand_caravan/power_locks_will_not_lock_or_unlock ). *tr

Power/automatic door locks not working intermittently over the last week and stopped working all together. two days ago. do not work with key nor do locks "lock" when car travels over 20 miles per hour. hatchback still opens via the key. *tr

Automatic door locks fail to engage. because horn still sounds and lights flash - driver is not aware that locks are not engaged - so the car remains unlocked while operating and after leaving. *tr

The automatic door lock will not work anymore, not from key remote, inside door locks, or automatic lock when driving. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan door locks, fuse replaced, iod fuse pulled to reset system but is short lived only worked for a day. this vehicle has 55,000 miles. most of the vehicles have this problem after 40,000 miles.this is a safety hazard with no real fix. it was said that i might need a software upgrade -if that's the case it should be a recall do to a malfunction not ware and tear. the door locks do not work, regardless of key less entry or the switch on the door panels. this should not be a problem when all the fuse have been check and replaced or are good. *tr

The door locks open or close from the switches or the smart key buttons. they also do not lock at twenty mph as designed. this due to a known failure of the body controller in the vehicle, however the dealers i have spoken to say 'yes', this is a known problem that consistently comes up after warranty periods. this failure puts the occupants of the vehicle (mini van) at risk when locks don't work as designed, especially considering that the van only can unlocked with the key at the driver's door. *tr

The automatic door locks and power doors on my 2005 dodge grand caravan quit working sporadically. this is a huge issue with my 3 small children because the locks have to be manually locked and the doors often stay unlocked or will not open from inside the vehicle. dealers has no answer, says computer shows no events although this has happened 8-10 times over past year. *tr

Multiple electrical failures. backup lights, door locks, interior lights, right side power window, and sliding side doors. the items do not function on our van. upon pulling the battery terminal these items will work for a short period of time and then cease to function again. after extensive research on the internet and several hundred dollar in dealer "repairs" i have discovered that this is due to a software problem with the body control module on the 2005 dodge grand caravans. the fix is supposed to be a firmware update to the bcm provided by dodge. the issue i have is that if this is a software/firmware update to the van's computer why should the dealer expect me to pay $70 so my vehicle will function properly the same as it did when purchased. no modifications have been made to the van and it currently has just over 60k mileage. these problems have been around prior the end of the 3/36k warranty but since such a long time has passed the dealer will no longer honor any type of warranty on this vehicle. my complaint is that if this is a known software issue/fault with the van's software then dodge should upgrade them for free. it's not as if this is a wear and tear or customer induced failure. this is a fault in the core design of the vehicle. *tr

The locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer work. i am reading forum after forum and everyone with this year model is having the same problem. they are saying that dodge dealerships are having to replace the body control module and some are having to be reflashed. this is a huge problem, because the lights flash and you are unaware that your car is not being locked. it is open and vulnerable for all to enter. i only noticed this as i locked it (i thought) and then had to get right back in for something. this is a common problem among this year of vehicle and needs to have someone look into it. *tr

Power door locks quit working on a 2005 dodge grand caravan. *tr

Power door lock continues to blow fuses. dealership failed to update the software in the body control module in 2008. *tr

The power locks do not work for the driver and all passenger doors. they will not work with either the remote or the interior lock switch or after driving the vehicle over the reset lock mph of 20. only the rear tail gate lock is functional. this issue started approximately october of 2008 and continues. disconnecting the battery and reconnected after approximately 15 minutes will get the locks to work again but only for the time being. the power locks may stop working again within a couple of hours or couple of weeks. my mechanic stated that a reflash may work but the problem has a history of coming back after the $175 reflash. a new bcm costs $500 and that may not correct the problem either. because of the high rate of lock failure for this vehicle and the safety issue here (a key hole is only provided on the driver's side door meaning people need to stand in busy streets or parking lots while driver opens his door and then climbs through the interior to pull up the buttons for others to enter as well as lock not locking when vehicle is in motion) i feel a recall is needed to be issued for this power lock problem. this is a safety issue. *tr

2005 sxt dodge caravan power door lock failure, after 1 minute on the web i have found people with the exact same problem as i, to the tee! this is obviously a problem with the manufacture and software/firmware. dodge has a fix. why has this not been recalled yet? such a simple fix of a firmware upgrade would save many hours of frustration. i am very upset that this problem is so well know and has happened exactly the same way to others and nothing has been done to right the problem. my power doors locks have stopped working yet the lights still blink when using the remote and the rear tailgate will work. after replacing the battery they worked again then quit after a few days. i could have just copied this straight off the forums i have been reading...its is the exact same thing going on that everyone else is experiencing also. please issue a recall notice and have dodge take care of this problem. thanks *tr

My vehicle was in motion this morning (well beyond home and the point where the autolocks supposedly engaged) when my 2-year old managed to push the side door release button with a toy and the door started to slide open. the child safety lock indicator tab on the door indicated the child safety lock was engaged. upon arrival at work, i googled this and found multiple reports of failing locks. i walked out to my car to find it unlocked, despite the fact that the horn had sounded indicating the vehicle was locked. i have been unable to figure out how to lock the lift gate, so it appears to me as if my car is permanently unlocked. this is a safety concern when the door can be triggered in motion or someone could enter my car through the lift gate. with all of the complaints out there - how is there not at least a tsb on this item? this is disgraceful given the demographic driving the grand caravan. i guess we want to wait for a child to fall out in transit or someone to be carjacked, raped, or killed? *tr

The power locks do not work on the 2005 dodge grand caravan. a $350 'fix' was attempted and it solved nothing. for approx $90 the computer software is upgraded which should correct the issue. *tr

Power locks stopped working. disconnecting battery foot 30 minutes will reset the computer and the locks will again work for about a month and the problem recurs. this is a known problem. *tr

Power door locks on my 2005 dodge grand caravan stopped working. i think this is a safety issue as my wife could get car-jacked and not be able to lock the doors to prevent it. chrysler has acknowledged that it is a software issue in the "body control module" and can be fixed with a software upgrade (tsb 08-040-04). the charge for this fix. *tr

Power door locks fail to lock automatically when car accelerates after being parked. this creates a hazard for children who are riding in vehicle. *tr remote lock/unlock function also inoperable. additionally, when using remote key fob to lock vehicle after parking, it responds with a horn honk indicating that doors have been locked when in fact they do not lock. issue can be corrected but it will return within hours to weeks later. internet searches show that this is an extremely frequent and common problem for this model vehicle.

Power door locks do not work at all. when battery is disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnected, door locks will work for about 30 seconds then fail again. when lock button is pressed on remote key faub, the lights flash, but doors do not lock. i was told that a module needs to be replaced. *tr

Door lock stopped working. car was left unlock overnight. lock only works on driver side and locks don't respond to remote or manually. just bought used 2005 dodge caravan sxt a few weeks. it can be unsafe if you ar trying to lock the doors with kids in the car or unlock. disappointing that it is not that old and after googling, found many people had the same problem. dodge, an american made product, is disappointing. please investigate so we can all have locks that actually work and safe for our children. check out this site for more complaints about the locks and doors. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml thank you *tr

Rear lh sliding door on 2005 dodge grand caravan no longer operating normally. door stops 8" and must be manually moved thereafter. *tr

The auto locking mechanism stopped working on my 2005 dodge grand caravan. the auto lock now only works on the back hatch door. there are only two manual key holes, one on the driver's side and one on the back hatch. the doors do not lock automatically at 20 mph, pressing the interior lock button does nothing, using the key fob lock button does nothing. the first time it happened, we changed the relay switch, and that seemed to fix the problem, but now it is occurring again. i checked out this problem and it seems to be pervasive on this model, therefore, i believe this to be a manufacturing defect and should either be covered by the warranty or a recall issued for the computer upgrade that is needed. consumers should not be forced to compensate for chrysler's lack of quality in this area. i also believe this is a serious safety issue, especially since the majority of van owners are parents of small children who would be at risk in this situation. however, to this point, chrysler has irresponsibly refused to issue a recall. please take the time to research the number of failures for yourself and take appropriate action to protect consumers of the 2005 dodge grand caravan. thanks. *tr

Power door locks fail to operate. remote keyless entry fails to operate. power lift doors fail to operate. simple disconnect of battery fixes issue temporarily. keyless entry honks horn as if it's locking, but no doors lock. *tr

The locks on my 2005 dodge caravan stop working. after searching on the internet for a fix or other people with this problem, they suggested pulling the iod fuse for 20 seconds and replacing the fuse. i did so and it fixed the problem for today. i do not know if this will continune to fix the problem or not but it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem. i would like to file this complaint so a recal will be issued to fix the problem. just pulling the fuse will not fix the problem permanently. thank you

The power locks and remote lock on my 2005 grand caravan quit working. i went to a parts store and was told it was not a fuse. i called car dealership and was told power lock switch probably needed replacing and would run over $100.00. i googled my problem and read numerous accounts of my exact problem. tried their solution and it worked perfectly and was free! i located the iod 20 amp fuse in my car's fuse box and unplugged it for five seconds. this is supposed to reset locks. it worked perfectly and now all my locks work good as new! this was a very annoying problem as my caravan only has one keyed lock on driver's door. i think this item needs to be recalled if it is such a problem for so many car owners. *tr

Driver side door lock stopped working. both power side doors stop working. *tr

There was no specific event that lead to this failure. the failure is with the power lock system on the 2005 dodge caravan. the vehicle has only one manual entry point on the drivers door . if the door is damaged in an accident egress from the vehicle could be impeded and result in additional injuries or deaths. to correct the failure, the vehicle was taken to the dodge dealership for repair. alleged software problems that require the system to be "reset". this does not correct the problem, it just resets the system until it fails again. *tr

Electric locks on 2005 dodge caravan quit working. after reading forums, found out that if you pull a fuse and replace it after five seconds, it works again. for most the problem returns within days. read that their was a firmware problem in the vehicles computer that needed to be upgraded for a price. with the electric locks not working, and when driving, the locks will not lock at 19 mph as designed, causing what i believe to be an unsafe condition. i believe it is unfair, and not to mention unsafe, for the consumer to have to pay for a service that should be a recall. *tr

My 2005 dodge grand caravan has 77000 miles on it. last week i found out that the power door locks does not work. by doing an online search it seams like a large number of dodge grand caravan owners are experiencing this issue. i feel like this is a safety issue because it is not easy to lock/unlock doors specially when you have young children. *tr

Power door locks failed. pulled the iod fuse to reset the locks and it worked for about a week. i'm now pulling this daily to get it to work properly. a danger to me and my family as it leaves the door open at times and you are unable to lock the back door when it fails (there is no manual lock for the back). *tr

One day the power locks just stopped working with both the key and door buttons. it is permanent and because this is a keyless entry vehicle the door can only be unlocked via the keyhole on the driver side door. doors must be locked and unlocked manually. it is difficult for my school aged children to unlock their own doors. this is a safety issue for my children if they needed to quickly exit the vehicle. dodge is aware of this problem and says it needs a software update. they are not covering this design flaw/failure as it is not a powertrain problem. my vehicle only has 62000 miles on it. a search of the web yielded many occurrences of this same problem :http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. i have not had the problem fixed yet. i was not expecting to have to pay for the repair. *tr

My 2005 dodge grand caravan, the power locks stopped working. per some searches on the internet the dodge caravan needs a software update to allow the auto power locks to work. they sell it for $150-$200 when it should be free because of an error in dodges software. the vehicle only has 2 keyed locks to open from eternally. it is a danger with young children riding in the van because the doors do not automatically lock when the vehicle starts moving. *tr

2005 dodge grand caravan sxt 3.8 v6 electric door locks stop working. from research, it has to do with reprogramming the bcm (body control module). by disconnecting the battery, the locks work temporarily anywhere from a day to a month. the door locks stop working without any signs. i believe this should be a recall due to the safety concerned of having to manually unlock and lock doors as they are not designed to be done manually since the vehicle was equipped with power locks. also, the bcm reprogramming from the dealer appears to be semi-permanent as some persons have had to receive a new bcm to fix the problem. *tr

Auto door locks fail to work suddenly. i searched the internet for people having the same issue and was amazed to see many people with the same problem and the same make and model. problem can be temporarily fixed by pulling out the iod fuse in the fuse panel for a minute and reinserting it. this only solves the problem for a week or so. this is a potential safety hazard as my wife and kids spend a lot of time in the vehicle and the doors not locking poses a potential problem exiting the vehicle in an emergency as well as the potential for someone to enter the vehicle while driving such as carjacking, etc....with as many complaints as i have read, and obviously the manufacturer being aware of the issue, i feel this should be recalled immediately.... *tr
