Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2015 Dodge Durango

While driving at highway speed without warning multiple error messages were displayed followed by instrument cluster shutting off completely. windshield wipers started without command. turn signals and lights would not work. functions slowly started to return however traction control remained disabled.

Rear hatch light fills with water and the light stops working. only fix is to replace the very expensive light assembly. safety issue as rear light stops functioning.

The tailgate light gets filled up with water creating a short and burning our led lights in the tail light. this is a known issue and the dealership charges over $1000 for the light and the time spend replacing it. fcu should pay for the faulty design and replace all the tailgate lights for free.

The liftgate tail light assembly allows water to seep inside, pooling in the lighting assembly. this led to the rear lights shorting out and failing completely. after researching, this is a common problem that dodge continues to ignore; only offering to install a new assembly for the bargain price of $1200-1600 so that i will be visible from the rear to other drivers on the roadway.

The led back tail lights are not properly sealed, so water can leak into them and short out the lights, and cause electrical shortage.have tried to work with the dealership, and the chrysler corp., but since the vehicle is a 2015 model it is out of warranty. i feel this was a bad seal right out of the factory.

Car will try to start but won't turn all the way over. it does it intermittently. i've taken it to mark dodge and 2 other auto shops and no one can find the issue. it has done it over 15 times now

The "racetrack" taillight system has a systemic issue with water infiltrating the enclosed sealed led taillight system. this caused portions of the taillights to burn out and cause lower visibility than intended. warranty companies consider this a "serviceable" part like normal bulbs, brakes, tires, etc. the problem is that this "serviceable" part is an all enclosed unit and not a simple bulb replacement. you have to replace the entire panel at a cost of nearly $1000!!! or just drive with the limited safety of a fully functioning taillight system. this seems like a safety issue and once one section goes out the rest usually follow. this design flaw should not be considered a serviceable part and fc should be made to remedy the problem and fix this issue at their expense.

Water is leaking into the racetrack tail light causing the damage and making the car less visible.

My rear racetrack lighting is not working. water has gotten into the light and now has gone completely out. truck is garaged kept and never been in accident. truck just hit 50k miles. please help as my tag lights aren't working either

Racetracklight tailgate has water in it which burnt out light. warranty not covering. major issue with all durango's with race track tailgate light.

Water and moisture get into the rear light strip and causes led light failure. you cant fix the problem, just buy a new light assembly at $1000 and pray that doesnt get water in that one. problem causes vehicle to fail inspection and poses a huge safety problem.

I recently noticed still water inside my rear center tail lamp on the lift gate while parked before leaving home, that wouldn't leave, as a result of this a portion of the lamp had went out and no longer worked, eventually the entire lamp stopped working now causing a safety concern as i am now less visible to those behind me and causing me to be ticketed several times from law enforcement because of the lamp being out which is now turning this into a $2000 plus problem. i have done my research and have learned that thousands of other durango owners from 2014 and 2015 are having this same issue and this needs to be a recalled part. i also have younger siblings that use my truck from time to time to travel to work and school and a grandmother who drives my vehicle at times and i can no longer let them drive my vehicle because i don't want them to destroy their driving record with constant tickets because of the lamp being out nor my grandmother or possibly getting into an accident due to the difficulty of being seen from behind now

For a few months now, the bottom right hand section of the led 'racetrack' tail lights on the trunk of my durango has been burned out. apparently, this is coming from water filling up in the leds due to weather stripping to keep water out failing too early. this normally wouldn't be a huge concern since tail lights can be replaced, however chrysler/dodge/fiat has made it entirely too expensive for anyone in their right mind to even try to afford a replacement. the leds cannot be easily replaced, therefore you have to replace the entire tail light/brake light portion on the trunk. on top of that, this part must come with the back up camera, you can't buy the part without the back up camera. the cost for this is 1,085 usd which is absolutely absurd, and that does not include the cost of labor as well. the brake lights of any vehicle are a huge safety function of the vehicle, both during the day in dark foggy/rainy conditions as well as anytime at night. chrysler/dodge/fiat must either make this incredibly cheap to replace, or put in a recall to be replaced at the companies expense. this could cause property damage that the vehicles insurance company must pay for, or even death to any person or animal riding in the vehicle if involved in an accident. lucky, my entire 'racetrack' led tail light system has not completely failed, yet. keyword: yet. it's inevitable, it will happen the more water that gets into the led section of the light.

Water is entering taillight unit causing electronics to short. water is entering due to a poorly designed seal on the top back of taillight.

Rear tail light housing center section in the lift gate has water intrusion which has caused led lights to short out. noticed lights out and water in housing while vehicle was parked but smelled the order of electrical smoke while driving.

Racetrack light in back of durango has water in it. part of led light panelis now out after a good rain.

Rear 'racetrack' led lighting full of water from condensation. lighting is shorting out and i am concerned about price to fix. also it may be a danger to other drivers at night. 27,000 miles and already getting worse.

The rear tail light assembly, middle portion, has collected water inside of it which comes in contact with the tail light led's inside causing them to short to ground. they blink/flash erratically but most of the time are not on. also the license plate lights are affected by this and are not working either. even after loosening the assembly and draining the water condensation can still be seen inside.

Water is getting into the rear tail lights through the factory seam. there are no visible cracks on the tail light and water is pooling up on the inside and slowly leaking out of the factory seals around the housing. water is causing the lights to short out.

Rear taillight assembly has water caused by a manufacture defect of not properly sealing light assembly. vehicle was taken to the local dodge dealership and was told this is a common problem with light assembly. this is a saftey problem and a recall should be issued. this can cause a rear end accident which will result in injuries. the vehicle used by a law enforcement agency's across the country and can cause an injury to a law enforcement officer.

Water is in the racetrack tail light on both sides, i noticed the sound of water moving while driving, and its water in my tail light. the light are out at the bottom because of this

While driving my radio display screen went off 3 different times and finally restarted. on another day the air conditioning would come on by itself. first it was the rear air would come on high, i would turn it off and it would come right back on. so i turn the air off completely front n rear, well it came back on by itself both of them. so i just locked the rear air and left the front air on. i was driving down the highway while this was happening

Tl* the contact purchased a 2015 dodge durango. when the vehicle was purchased, the dealer (jimmy britt chevrolet buick gmc, 1011 town creek blvd, greensboro, ga 30642, (706) 453-2500) stated that there were no recalls or failures with the vehicle. however, the contact had to make several repairs. the contact stated that the electrical system failed, which affected the heating and air conditioning. also, the mileage on the odometer was incorrect based on the previous owner. the dealer finally agreed to repair the vehicle after the contact informed them that she was aware of the failures. the most recent failure was with the transmission, which was currently being repaired. the dealer stated that due to the odometer mileage difference, the contact would have to take a financial loss in order to trade in the vehicle. the contact did not the state from where the vehicle was purchased did not have a "lemon law" and was referred to the state's attorney general's office in her home state. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 70,000.

While using the vehicle on marksheffel rd we noticed that the horn was not working. that was our first sign for concern. shortly afterwards while at a stop light we noticed that the steering wheel controls were not working either. lastly we noticed that there are multiple indicators on the dashboard that are displayed indicating a failure somewhere. one of the indicators relates to an airbag.the vehicle is only a few years old. according to many forums and reports online this is a recurring dodge issue that they fail to fix year after year. they have had recalls for this issue on other vehicles and years but not this 2015 durango and they will not cover it under any warranty. they should have had this issue resolved by now considering it has been going on since at least 1997. we drive our kids in this vehicle and feel that it is cause for concern but feel we should not have to pay for their mistakes.

I have taken great measures to ensure the safety of my family and other drivers related to an ongoing issue of service shifter. i have taken my vehicle under extended warranty 3 times for the same problem and suspect autonation has been unable to identify issue nor troubleshoot. my vehicle unexplainable is not accelerating and down shifting properly. the last time i used a rental car only part was covered and we had a seatbelt scare because it wasnt securing my child. i desperately seeking resolution and have parked my vehicle for now until i can turn it over to the correct mechanic. are you able to read error codes? where do i take my vehicle? i feel unsafe as the vehicle is unpredictable. for the fourth time, we almost experienced an accident leaving my parents enroute home. warranty and autonation are closed. if someone could give me the correct procedure or steps i need to take. incidents surrounding the service shifter has gone from inconvienant to traumatizing. this is a family vehicle and used to transport children. if someone could please advise. where should i take my vehicle? how can i be assured problem fixed and vehicle safe to drive? this vehicle acceralates, shifts to neutral, jumps and doesnt properly down shift when prompted. i've taken it in for service 3 times within months and even weeks apart. what do i do next?

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 dodge durango. while at a stop or braking to stop, the vehicle jerked forward without warning. the vehicle was taken to finnegan chrysler jeep dodge ram (26433 southwest fwy, rosenberg, tx 77471, 281-342-9318) where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to driver error. the failure recurred while the contact was driving into a parking space. as a result, the vehicle jerked forward and struck the front of another parked vehicle. the air bag did not deploy. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was slightly damaged, but was drivable. the vehicle was taken to the gillman chrysler jeep dodge ram dealer (10585 w sam houston pkwy s, houston, tx 77099, 713-776-4900) where recall repairs were performed per nhtsa campaign number: 18v332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control). the technician stated that the vehicle jerked due to driver error and referred the contact to the manufacturer. the manufacturer was not called. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 15,600.

After any amount of rain etc. water leaking into led racetrack lighting causing led to short out. water pooling in driver and passenger sides racetrack strip ... defective part not sealed properly.

Water in the tail light eventually burned out the lower left hand side, looks to be faulty sealant

Rear tracklight holding water after rain and carwash

Rear "racing" lights and tail lights fill with water every time it rains. see this is a common problem

My rear tail light has water in it. told dealership at 36k oil change and they said yes it happens all the time just put a hole in it to allow it to leak out. i said no that isnt what yoir supposed to do and they told me dodge will not cover it.

I was parked in my driveway on a slight decline and the vehicle was running and in park and i ran into the house to grab something and when i looked back it was rolling down the driveway and crashed and got stuck in between two trees. the vehicle is now totaled.

The center tail light in the dodge durango's with the racetrack set up have a leaking problem where water enters through posing a risk to the electrical system and inside of the vehicle. this basically happens whether the vehicle is in motion or parked. when it rains - water enters through the defectively sealed tail light.

Electronic fuel door was constantly getting stuck and would not open unless the inside button was pushed multiple times. when i went to get gas, the plastic door popped off so the metal hinge is now visible and is an eyesore. this is a major safety issue.

Ractrack light on rear tailgate has water inside of it and shorted out. noticed burnt smell.

The center tail light in the dodge durango's with the racetrack set up have a leaking problem where water enters through posing a risk to the electrical system and inside of the vehicle. this basically happens whether the vehicle is in motion or parked. when it rains - water enters through the defectively sealed tail light. on facebook social media there's a fan club dedicated to dodge durango's where members have reported having the same problem including one person having to have their tail light fixed three times.

The led light bulb in the license plate housing goes out. it has been replaced 4 times in 2 years. dealer diagnosed no problem and replaced bulb. bulb lasted 2 days. now it's past warranty and bulb is out again. according to owner's manual, i'm not supposed to be charged for repeat service visit for same issue after 3 visits.

Water is inside the lift-gate race track lighting assembly. warranty does not cover "water intrusion" of which this is. next month my vehicle will be 2 years old so if i don't it fixed at a cost of $1,100 the lights will soon be moldy, shorted out or causing the liftgate to rust out. this should be a warranty fix regardless of age or miles.

The passenger side headlight connection burnt and melted the connection socket where the bulb connects. had the same problem with my 2011 dodge charger. the wiring harness on the charger was part of a recall. the 2015 durango harness is not on a recall, yet. it's the same part, with the same problem.

Dodge wants to charge $300 to swap out the bulb on the drivers' side blinker which can be done easily in about 10 minutes with regular or led bulb, however it seems that after having swapped out the bulb which shorted out on the terminal connector itself (why is my brand new car causing shorts first of all) so i installed an led on the right side as well. however, that caused problems saying the right blinker is out. so now, regardless of whether i have the led or the regular light installed on the passenger side blinker it now goes in and out saying "right side blinkder out" - and that's even when it works!??!!! why is the computer thinking the blinker is out when i see it works? granted, the stupid left side stopped being dumb but now is there some attenuation or something that the computer doesn't like since you burned out my first bulb and it's causing issues at the right side? dodge needs to address this as a recall under warranty because it is absolutely an issue, it's not a bulb problem, it occurs with any bulb and whether it i actually out or not is not accurate per the reporting from the computer. sometimes it says it's out and it is, other times it says it's out and it's not... this is a major safety issue notifying other surrounding people/vehicles of intent to turn.

Smelled electronic burning in vehicle while driving on highway 378 from columbia sc. after about a minute the instument panelwent completely blank. worried that i might have a dash fire, i pulled over on the road shoulder in busy traffic to get my family out of the vechile and investigate. i called the local dealer service department and was told to bring the vechile in so they could repair it. nerviously i started the vechile back up with my family at curb side. i waited for several minutes to ensure an electrical fire did not occur. i drove straight to the dealership without any instrumentation, or turn signals. the vehicle has now been in there shop for over a month.

Regarding odi pe 16-014 opened 16 december 2016: one year ago (12/29/15) a neighbor alerted me via text to the fact that my vehicle was in the street outside our home. i discovered my 2015 durango had rolled backward approximately 35 feet coming to rest in the middle of the street. my first thought was that i had somehow failed to put the vehicle in "park". however, after starting the vehicle, i could see the rotary dial controlling the transmission was clearly indicated to be in the "p" position. it's worth noting that at the time of the incident, the vehicle was not running and the parking brake was not engaged. obviously, having the vehicle roll away was no small concern. so i contacted the dealer who sold me the vehicle and was advised to take it to a dealer in my community for inspection. according to the service manager at the local dealership this was the second recent complaint he had received on this same issue. ultimately, the dealer inspection turned up no discernable cause. i was subsequently contacted by the sm stating that chrysler was flying a couple of guys up to take a look at both vehicles involved in the roll-away complaint. this process ultimately resulted in my receipt of correspondence from an individual working "special investigations" for fca stating, in essence, that my durango is "functioning as designed". a few final thoughts: (1) the slope of our driveway is standard for homes built on flatland. an eyeball measurement has the rise at about 20" over a run of 36'. (2) our durango replaced a 2004 lincoln aviator. the aviator utilized the same position in our driveway for several years (sans engagement of the pb), yet we never had an issue with it rolling away. maybe this can be attributed to dumb-luck. or, maybe it was designed not to. (3) fortunately, we live on a quiet street. this could have been real bad.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving, the electrical functions suddenly activated and activated independently. in addition, the vehicle would stall and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 30,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 dodge durango. while driving at an unknown speed, all the electrical functions, including the instrument panel, deactivated independently and then reactivated. in addition, the radio independently operated. the vehicle was previously remedied under nhtsa campaign number: 15v461000 (equipment). the failure occurred without warning. prior to the failure, the air conditioning unit would function independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was repaired; however, the diagnostic results were not disclosed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

After backing out of garage, i placed the vehicle in park with engine running while i walked back into garage. note vehicle was parked on a slope. emergency brake was not set. while in garage, i noticed vehicle was rolling down driveway. i was knocked down by drivers side door while trying to get in to apply brake. the vehicle then rolled over my mailbox, across street, over neighbor's mailbox and stopped when it hit a tree. my wife was in car so knows that rear parking sensors never chimed to indicate it was about to hit something which i believe confirms that the car wasn't still in reverse after backing out of garage. the air bags were not deployed. i believe that vehicle slipped out of park. it was not moving when i first got out. my injuries from being knocked to the ground and hers from being in the drivers seat both feel they didn't warrant emergency room treatment but will get treatment if pain persists.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 dodge durango. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 15v461000 (equipment) regarding a possible safety breach with the computer system. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact drove to an independent mechanic to have the computer system updated. while driving 35 mph in a rain storm, the windshield wipers began to operate frantically and the headlights turned off on their own. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer informed the contact that this was an unusual occurrence and advised her to take the vehicle to laurel valley motors (3656 state route 30, latrobe, pa 15650, 724-539-5500). the dealer performed a diagnostic and found no failures. since the diagnostic, the contact stated that various electrical failures have occurred with the vehicle. on one occasion, the contact discovered that the vehicle started on its own while in the garage and that the vehicle was running hot while idling. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 32,000.*tr*jb
