Stopped at a light and vehicle started to smoke. no other indicators that anything was wrong. opened hood and the alternator was smoking. closed the hood pushed out of the way of traffic and walked away. car caught fire and burned. total loss. there is a recall on the alternator for my vehicle and dodge is claiming no fault. recall # p60 / nhtsa 14v-634
While the car is in motion on a city street it will engage into low mode all by itself, causing the car to jerk and drive very slowly. the traction light also comes on. i am unable disengage the low mode. i have tried putting the vehicle in neutral to disengage however most of the time it doesn't work. the car will at some point usually after about 10-20 mins of trying to put the car in neutral and switching the auto awd/low knob back and forth resume regular driving mode at some point. this has been happening every since i bought the car 2 years (7/2016) ago sporadically. the dealers have been unable to fix it because it doesn't throw any kind of error code and they are saying they have to see the car actually do it. this is a safety hazard because while driving the car engages in a low mode by itself causing the car to jerk and drive slower all of a sudden and could potentially cause an accident. the part of the system causing the issue is unknown.
In the awd version of the durango the suv will shift into awd low while the car is in motion without the control knob being turned. the car will flash the low light and then shift into awd low. the car will not come out of awd low at all. this issue randomly occurs. we have taken the car to the dealership three times to have them look at this issue. they have replaced the transfer case and the sensor and the issue still is occurring with the car. the issue will occur with the car in motion or in park and is at random times. the car will not come out of awd low when following the manufacture directions, it will come out of low at random times or not at all.
Fuel pump relay replaced to external position. vehicle now will not start at times, starts and dies. replaced both guel pumps a month ago and still problems. relay is not switching on but tests ut is good.
I've been having issues with my vehicle stalling at random times where i'm stuck stranded for about 2 to 5 minutes before the vehicle will start again within the last year. i've had multiple cases open with chrysler and the local dealership in hampon virginia. my current case number with chrysler is 34055781. i'm now getting the run around and chrysler seems unwilling to help me. this vehicle is unsafe and unreliable and i fear my family or myself will end up in an accident due to the lack of steering when it shuts off without warning. i've look on the internet and it's littered with this very issue that chrysler will not acknowledge as a issue. i don't know where else to turn and i hope that someone can provide me some guidance and let me know what options if any i have to either get out of this vehicle through chrysler or make them fix the issue permanently. it stalls at random, sitting at a red light, driving down the highway at any given speed. chrysler claims that they've replaced alternators, fuel pump relay and tipm, but it's still doing it and it started out of nowhere. i've reported this issue about 6 times to pomoco chrysler dodge jeep ram of hampton and 4 times now to chrysler.
Battery light come on, shortly after dash board lights flickered, windshield wipers turnoff on by themselves, hazards also turned on, then radio and a/c turnoff, power steering was lost and the whole car died. once car died, i could not start it, tried to jump it and it was dead, would not turnover. later i was informed the alternator is under recall. when repaired by dodge, i was told i needed a new battery and starter. i believe the root cause and all repairs should have been made by dodge as they were all connected with same event.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge durango. while driving 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was applied but failed to respond. the vehicle stalled and the abs warning indicator and traction control indicator illuminated. additionally, the power steering became inoperable. the vehicle was towed to rockwall chrysler jeep dodge (970 i-30 e, rockwall, tx 75087) where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to pay for the repairs. the contact was informed that he would be reimbursed when the parts become available. the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Takata recall. recall for the alternator. i was driving on a very busy high way 77south speed limit 65 mph with my family n the vehicle when my vehicle suddenly started slowing down and i was unable to steer . my car had completely shut off nothing electrical worked. it put my family and i in a very dangerous situation with out any warning. and now i had to buy a brand new battery
Within about the last 6 weeks my suv has been stalling while driving in heavy traffic areas which is highly dangerous & i lose all control of my vehicle i have contacted the dodge dealership where i purchased this vehicle from & they are doing the bare minimum to correct this issue!!!! knowing my vehicle has active recalls!!!
In december 2017 said vehicle was towed to the shop for a no start condition. after bringing it in we determined a severe short in the electrical system, traced to alternator. we also found melted battery. found this vehicle fell under the t36 recall from fca. we got approval at that time to repair the vehicle and received a case number for reimbursement. we had to call back multiple times to continue authorization, and was told as long as the problems were related to the alternator then they would be reimbursed from 30-60 days from the time of submission. after submitting needed paper work and documentation we waited. the customer stopped in in may and asked us to check on it since he had not heard anything yet. called fca and found out that nothing had been done with the claim because of an internal error that sent the paper work to the wrong department. after calling again on 6/13/18 we found out that again, it had not been filed or sent to the right people. today (6/13/18) i sent the information again and was promised it would be taken care of. it has now been 6 months from the date of the repair and no effort has been made to reimburse the customer for anything. fca said it would be handled in 30-60 days. i feel that this is unreasonable. this customer has been very understanding but is running out of patience. we now have 3 different case numbers and i have documentation of talking to 4 different people to resolve the matter. the case numbers that have been assigned are as follows: 1) [xxx], # [xxx], 2) contact: [xxx], # [xxx], 3)[xxx], #[xxx]. i feel that as it is a recall and chrysler did not have a solution for the problem at the time, and authorized us to repair, they have handled the situation very poorly. please look into the matter or at least please let me know who i can contact to make a proper complaint. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
We have owned our 2013 dodge durango since it had 30 miles on it. it has 60,000+ miles on it and for the last year it has failed to start on multiple occasions. we took it to the cerritos dodge dealership and they said it could be 2 things. one is $900+ and the other is $1200+ to fix it. why should we pay for something that comes faulty from the manufacturer? this is not oil or a filter that needs changing every few months. an electrical component should not be going out at such an early rate plus be so expensive. my brpther bought the same truck a few months before us and it has had the same issues and then some. their truck actually stalled on them while on the street. the truck would not start for over an hour. they had to get it towed home. the next day when they woke up it started like nothing ever happened. when they took it to the dealership that same day they tested everything and said nothing was wrong with it. now what the hell is wrong with the vehicle? why should we have to pay thousands of dollars for faulty manufacturer parts? chrysler/dodge needs to fix this issue once and for all. lets not wait for someone to die from these faulty parts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge durango. on several occasions, while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to crank. also, the battery warning indicator illuminated and smoke appeared under the hood. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the contact called autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram and fiat north columbus (3000 n lake pkwy #100, columbus, ga 31909, (706) 522-2116) and was informed that there would be a fee. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I received a recall notice in june 2017 regarding an alternator issue on my 2013 dodge durango. it is now november 2017 and there is still no remedy. my battery light came on this morning after driving for less than five minutes in a 30 mph zone. i have an infant daughter so i cannot risk any battery issues in the dead of winter in upstate new york. it has been nearly six months since the recall was issued with no remedy available. the risks include heat/smoke or even fire within the alternator. six months seems like a ridiculous amount of time for a repair of this magnitude to be not be resolved. i will have the alternator replaced and submit for a reimbursement but i shouldn't have to go through that process and incur those kinds of expenses so close to the holiday season when they've had six months to react to the situation.
Upon driving the vehicle over a small bridge, including on and declining off, then over another hill the vehicle stalled and lost power. we were able to coast the vehicle to a stop. i popped the hood and it had an electrical burning smell but couldn't locate the source. i was able to restart the vehicle and proceeded to our destination. upon returning home the vehicle seemed to have less power. again i checked under the hood and had the same smell. i checked on this website for a recall and it said there were none for this vin number. i checked the model year and there has been several with stalling/electrical issues. the recall numbers are as follows: 17v435000, 15v115000,14v634000. we have had this vehicle in before for recalls, unsure if these were part of those recalls. we will be contacting the dealership tomorrow. your form wont let me select the engine and powertrain as parts affected. *tr
When i use the key less remote to start the car from outside my car it ideals for about 30 seconds or less then turns off. i try it again the horn beeps once then doesn't start. the radio settings reset on it's own which has happened several times. the console/instrument panel lighting changes from bright to dim when it's still light outside. one of the engine fans turns on/off more than normal and it's louder then it been in the past. i am noticing a ticking noise when the engine is started but no one can seem to find out the issue. lastly, when accelerating the gas pedal the power lags meaning you can literally floor the pedal and it takes several minutes to get up to speed. all of these issues have happened several times and the dealership tells me there's nothing wrong. something is wrong because the check engine like once again came on this morning.
Takata recall from time to time when starting the 2013 dodge darango v 8 hemi it would just continuously turn over like it was not getting fuel it would not happen all the time but makes it unreliable when its your wife and kids using the car and what makes it a safety issue in my opinion is that the car has also stalled from time to time the car has been to the dealer 2 times now we have a extended warranty but they said they can not repeat the problem very frustrating
Vehicle alternator started to smoke and catch on fire, after shorting itself out. vehicle was on the road then parked in driveway. i reported it to dodge who advised it was on recall (t36). called chrysler customer care to report. they set up a tow and advised that they would replace with current model alternator and if needed the pcm and battery. dealership now stating chrysler will not cover pcm or battery. now i have a vehicle at the dealership that wont run with a new alternator . chrysler care made notes when i first talked with them on this case # 32398928 from customer care. now they will not admidt that they authorized repair of altornator, pcm , and battery.

P60 recall a joke when lives are at risk!! my family could have been killed and we need a class action suit to get dodge to take peoples lives seriously! my wife was driving our 2013 durango with my two young girls coming home from school when they all noticed a bad burning smell and then smoke started coming through the air vents and the a/c went hot. she pulled over and i came to meet them on side of busy military trail with the burning truck i was told. lifted the hood and i noticed the alternator was super hot and had burned the serpentine belt. went to check battery in truck actually under passanger's seat, this was extremely hot as well. had durango towed to house the research more about problem and found this recall p60!! i figured the alternator was fried and battery took a dump as well, so off i went to purchased both parts for me to replace and hopefully fix this major life safety issue. i put in the new battery and the alternator began to smoke badly and truck was actually off. pulled battery out and then decided to change alternator first. all complete and then hooked up new battery all well, truck started and no smoke. battery light came on now and truck wipers started to go with dash light doing crazy things, truck stalled out and would not restart. finally had it towed to local firestone for diagnostics and currently still waiting to find out what is wrong and how much it will be to fix truck back to normal. i am scared for my family that drives in this truck everyday. i can not believe my vehicle and others this has happened to is not on recall due to stupid amps!! dodge and chrysler should be ashamed they have done nothing and scared of the first person or family they will kill with these durangos. i hope something is done quickly to resolve issues and pay for all the fixes needed because of their faulty trucks. must recall all now!

Suv will crank but won't start. either the fuel pump relay in the tipm is going bad or the fuel pump is going bad. is their a recall for the tipm if you can reach out to me that would be great. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My wife was driving our durango when it suddenly lost all power. she had to muscle it to the side of the road, where she attempted numerous times to restart it. prior to that, often times you would turn the key and the dash lights would come on and the car would do nothing...not even turn over. after a few attemps, it would start. after the stall, we brought it into our local dodge dealer (dutchess dodge) where the service department kept it for a few days, said they could not recreate our concerns, cleaned numerous electrical connections, charged us $500 and recommended we change a "win" module at about $800 plus labor but could not guarnatee this would fix the issue. the service person even admitted it could be the tipm but that they couldn't be sure and the fix of the win module was the first recommedation. he also added that some components in the tipm were loose and that they checked and cleaned them also and that for all they know it could have fixed the issue. i informed them that i could not afford to continue to throw money into "trial and error" fixes and to just button it up and give it back to us. a week later, it happened to my wife again, only this time, as she was pulling off to the side of the road, it re-started on it's own. we called the service department back and their reply was that they recommended changing the win module. this vehilcle has 62000 miles and has been regularly serviced by me and cared for like a baby. this is not an issue of use or abuse, it is faulty parts and we should not be responsible. i feel like i should just trade this in and after of lifetime of being a loyal mopar customer, go in a different direction.

Driving 55mph, battery light comes on, the engine starts whining and i start to lose power as i pull into my driveway. check manual and it says the battery light is the electrical charging system. i get out of the car and smell an electrical burning smell. manual says take to dealer for service. service confirms the electical burning smell came from a bad alternator. check for recalls and one just came out july 11, 2017 recall # t36 for this exact problem i just had. i send recall info to dodge service and they claim my vin doesn't fall under the recall. how in the world does it not fall under the recall when it is doing exactly what the recall was stating?
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge durango. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v435000 (electrical system) and 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. paulding chrysler dodge jeep ram (1246 old griffin rd, dallas, georgia 30157) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Alternator caught on fire, impacting my battery and after getting this fixed i am still having problems with the vehicle failing after i just got it out of the service center. the first time the alternator caught on fire it was in idle, stationary. the second altercation after picking it up from the dealership it had interior/exterior lights going on and off along with my windshield wipers operating while off. i have had a number of problems since purchasing this vehicle and believe i was sold a lemon. i would like to get this addressed asap! thanks much.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge durango. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road, waited a few minutes, and was able to resume driving. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to big m chrysler dealer (located on 1010 elizabeth st, nicholasville, ky 40356) where it was diagnosed, but a failure code could not be found. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it failed to start. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the fuel pump relay was replaced per an unknown recall in august of 2015. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
Driving down the street under normal conditions when battery light came on and a strong burning smell appeared. pulled over to find heavy smoke coming from the engine--appeared to be the alternator burning. took the car immediately to a local garage down the block from incident. they started the car and verified the alternator had failed, was smoking, and about to catch fire. all gauges were misreading. alternator was replaced but the dash warning lights and electrical components are no longer working. (speedometer, gauges, warning lights, radio...) notified dodge with no resolution to this point.
June 4 2017while driving my 2013 dodge durango 55200 miles we experienced 100%electrical failure that caused the vehicle to shut down while operating on a city street.. engine failure, loss of brakes, cooling system and radio shirt off and wipers came on as vehicle died. smoke entered the cabin and we were unable to operate windows and door locks. our toddlers were in the 2nd and 3rd row seating. we had to climb over the front seats to get the kids out safely. the 180 amp alternator failed exactly as the 160 amps safety recall have been recalled. the alternator melted and melted the connector cable and damaged the battery and pcm. we contacted fca and the refused to apply the 160 amp safety recall to our vehicle
All electric keeps fading in and out, doesn't matter what where or how we are driving it just randomly fades in and out and has completely shut off a few times
Vehicle stationary, intermittently not starting when push button has been pressed, we can hear starter attempting to engage but will not start. sometimes the starter continuously runs for about 10 seconds attempting to start the car and the only way to stop the starter, is you have to leave the vehicle and lock the car w/key fob. has done this intermittently since july of 2017. the vehicle has had the fuel pump relay replaced due recall on 09/2015. the intermittent non starting issue has occurred a total of 12+ times. on two of the occurances the problems have been video taped. had the vehicle to the dealership two different times and both times they state that they could not get the vehicle to duplicate the problem nor were there any codes in the system, therefore, they could not resolve the matter. when we tried to show them the videos they advised that they had no interest in viewing them. they also advised several times that without a duplication of the issue, that they could do nothing to resolve the issue. dealership continues to maintain that we are the only ones that they know of that is having this particular issue.
2013 durango awd crew- was driving the vehicle around 40 mph. avoidance maneuver required heavy breaking (could feel abs working). upon moving the vehicle again from a standstill, noted a strong odor. thought it might just be the brakes. drove less than a mile and parked vehicle for about 90 minutes. started vehicle again and within 5 minutes (never getting the vehicle above 40mph) noted the strong odor again. soon after the battery icon appeared on the console. drove another mile and stopped the vehicle to investigate. other than the odor, nothing else was found. could not locate specific location of odor. decided to take vehicle to dealership about 6 miles away. vehicle started w/o the battery icon but within a mile it reappeared. odor present the whole time but no smoke. sunday--dealership was closed. on monday, dealership called to say our alternator was fried and we needed a new one.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge durango. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle started to smoke. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed smoke under the hood coming from the alternator. the contact waited a few minutes to restart the vehicle and it lost all power. in addition, the contact stated that the key failed to eject from the ignition switch. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator caused the battery and the computer system to fail. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
After i purchased this vehicle i was coming from the bank and as i press the gas pedal to go forward the vehicle wouldn't drive forward. i called the dealer ship and i was told that nothing was detected so i continue to drive this vehicle and again i experience the same problem i took the vehicle to crown dodge and i hear the same thing as before. now the vehicle shut down when i am driving and i have to put it in nurture to crank it back up i also call the headquarters about this vehicle i brought it brand new .i was on the road when all this happened. in the country also on city streets
I came out of a store and upon getting in my durango i started it and noticed smoke and smelled a burning electrical smell. the hood wouldn't open because it had already burned through the cable that attaches the hood release. within a few seconds the whole front end was on fire. i called the fire department and they had it put out pretty quickly. i've only had the vehicle for exactly a year almost to the day. the only problem we've had with it is the driver's side headlight went out. we had it replaced and it went out again within a couple of weeks so we had it changed again. i did notice that one headlight was brighter than the other but thought it was just different bulbs. apparently it wasn't. the vehicle was parked in a parking lot next to a whole cage full of propane tanks now that's pretty scary.
The alternator recently failed with symptoms identical to those described in dodge's p60 recall notice, i.e. all electrical power shut-off without warning while driving. fortunately my son was able to safely pull over to the side of the road. despite this failure which is very similar to that described in the p60 recall notice dodge says it is not covered. dodge should expand the number of vehicles subject to this particular recall. this could have been a very serious event if it had happened while driving on a busy freeway.

The ignition key repeatedly loses contact while the engine is running. when starting the engine it will die repeatedly if you do not lift up on the key while it is in the ignition. also, the car will shut off as you drive down the road without any warning. it loses all power including steering and brakes. again, if you push up on the key it will restart itself and continue on.
