Recall has been issued but no parts are available - this has been in limbo for some time now. the vehicle has been having a lot of trouble the past two months - stalling, jumping, trouble shifting gears on its own, shutting off at stops, hard to make a smooth transition into different speed limits. i am concerned for my safety and have not heard of when the parts will be available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. no further assistance was provided. the vehicle was taken to burns motors (1300 u.s. 83 business, mcallen, tx 78501, 956-984-4440), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 103,000.
We have taken my suv in for this starter issue for almost as long as we have had it. it acts as though it is starting but wont turn over. we have to pop out the push to start button and manually turn the car off for it to stop. it does this multiple times in a row before starting. finally after 4 or 5 visits for the issue, dodge says its some fuel pump relay so they fixed that, but the problem returned. the car completely stalled one day while we were driving, and it stopped turning on. we lost all power, no power steering, and every light illuminated on the dash board. this happened as we were exiting the dallas north tollway... luckily we were exiting! we were able to pull off the side of the road, we had the car towed to the dealership. this occurred in nov/dec 2017. over a period of about 4-6 weeks, they replaced the pcm and cat converter (both) and alternator. now 4.5 months later the problem has returned with starter constantly turning over, its happened 2 days in a row now. we have to travel daily 20 miles each way down the i30 corridor in the dfw area . we are afraid that the car will just stall going down the freeway. all signs point to a tipm problem, but the dealership is unwilling to replace.
The battery gets drain out without warning it happens once or twice a month lately it's happening more often, my truck won't start even if the day before was running battery was check and it's fine. check engine light it's on now once the truck didn't want to turn on. took it to a mechanic and he said it was a relay issue. brakes are in the recall vin check list along one other recall. the lights inside turn on and off as well as if there is a short going on while in driving mode it feels like the truck is loosing power even though it has gas. i'm afraid to drive it.

I was driving my durango in the city going 30 miles per hour on 10/05/17 and my battery light came on, i pulled over to check the battery and the alternator was smoking. i thankfully pulled over at a auto parts store and they were able to help me get my battery disconnected so that they fire in the alternator would stop. i contacted dodge and they originally told me that my alternator was not recalled. i found this website and entered my vin number and it came up with the t36 recall which is the alternator. i contacted dodge and they are refusing to communicate with me. i filed a complaint on 10/6/17 with dodge and no one has called me. i have called numerous times and no one will communicate with me on how they are going to fix my car or let me know what is going on. i have been with out my vehicle for a week now and dodge doesn't seem to care and they told me that the age of the vehicle it is typical to have car problems. i understand car problems, but just to drive down the road and have the alternator catch fire it not typical car problems.
June 2017, right headlight went out, replaced the bulb, hard they harness and wires changed and it still shorts out. headlight comes on and goes off while it is stationary and in motion. october 1, 2017, i started the truck, the engine turned over as normal but then a few seconds later it shut off. no warning lights on dash, truck was now in acc mode. i suspect and issue with the tipm.

Without warning my alternator has failed on my durango, i went to start it up for work and i got absolutely nothing. i looked up recalls, because it fried my battery as well, and i see a recall on some models with the 160 amp alternator, but not mine because it is 180 amp. this matter needs to be further investigated, because i have had an alternator go out before on other vehicles, but there are warning signs, and there were none which would lead me to believe there is a faulty device or hook up. th8s is costing me almost $1000, which as a military spouse with 2 children and a deployed husband we do not have for some erroneous part.
Computer failure: bad alternator (for which there is a recall) malfunctioned, while the vehicle was in motion, and at the same time, damaged the computer, causing the engine to shut down. while driving, multiple warning lights (seat belt, oil, alternator, etc.) would flash on and off. i was turned into a parking lot and turned into a space, but the engine died and i coasted to a stop. car would not start after that.
Like so many others, was driving when battery light came on with an electrical smell. continued driving to a midas when all lights and bells were going off. eventually tried to make a right turn and steering was gone and i was luckily able to coast into midas. they diagnosed as a failed alternator. my mechanic towed the car to his shop and replaced alternator and battery but that was not the solution. it ended up being the pcm. expensive fix that may push me towards purchasing a different vehicle instead.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while the vehicle was idling at a red light, several warning indicators flashed and a dinging noise was heard. when the traffic light turned green, the contact proceeded to drive very slowly. the vehicle lost acceleration and the warning indicators began flashing again. the vehicle lost steering ability, and the radio and air conditioning seized. the contact called a tow truck and the vehicle was towed to a goodyear store in highland city, texas where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed. the contact stated that the failure first occurred on july 27, 2017 and the vehicle was taken to the huffines dodge/chrysler dealer in plano, texas. the dealer diagnosed that the alternator and battery failed. the vehicle was towed to the goodyear shop in highland texas for repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
The failed tipm is dangerous and could leave you stranded from astalled engine. the failed alternator may have been a by product of the faulty tipm. this part should be part of a recall.
Driving locally and all of a sudden a whizzing sound from under hood. i pulled over noise stopped. continued driving on 40mph road and battery light came on, rpm indicator erratic. not too far from home an electrical fire smell coming from under hood. made it home safely. called dodge dealership to check about recall, specifically the 2015 alternator recall to see if somehow my vehicle was missed on that recall. vin was not included so took to mechanic. he has had an extremely time consuming and costly few days trying to repair. seemed just like the alternator needed replacing but then he said battery was dead. replaced with new battery and that was killed. he charged batteries separately and they were fine, soon as they were put into car they were quickly drained. he suspected computer system was shot. called in specialist to confirm. meanwhile i see there is an upcoming recall t36 for this exact sudden alternator failure issue (which mine should fall under) but notices not going out until 8/24/17. absolutely crazy!!! i've read the recent complaints and some people were driving when their whole electrical system stopped working and car shut down. i'm fortunate enough that i wasn't driving while my computer system failed and also lucky that i was close to home when smell started, because according to the recall these alternators can start fires. how can they announce this recall mid july but not notify affected consumers for 7 weeks? right now my vin is still not listed under any recall. it most better be or it will be handled in a legal manner. so far i haven't had my primary vehicle for 3 days, and is going to be at least 2-3 more. not to mention the thousands that i have to come up with for parts, hours worth of labor, and specialist to reprogram new computer.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving approximately 45 mph, the battery warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle indicated that the seat belts were not being used even though all the occupants were wearing their seat belts. in addition, the air conditioner suddenly failed and began to blow hot air. the contact attempted to roll the windows down, but they failed to move. there were also yellow warning indicators illuminating, but the contact was unsure of what they were indicating. the contact pulled the vehicle over and it suddenly powered off completely. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed home where a certified mechanic looked at the vehicle and diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
Suddenly the red battery light lit up. as i was driving home it stating going dead, windshiel wipers came on, would not acellrate, died on side of road. jumped off, went a few feet and died again, replaced battery started drove great after a min it statred acting up, took to local dealer, alternator fried, from the repports i am hearing this should be a recall. tom
Driving down the highway battery light came on. replaced battery. resumed trip, started smelling something burning. bluetooth turned off, radio shut off, a/c shut off (all as i'm trying to get off highway), smoke begins pouring out of air vents, everything shuts off. had to get vehicle towed. it is sitting, as i am trying to find out if it is included in t36 recall.
Failed alternator alternator failed and the car stalled and went dead on a road. could not restart the car and was blocking traffic. this is very unsafe condition.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving approximately 60 mph, the seat belt and battery warning indicators illuminated. later, the check engine, traction control, and abs warning indicators also illuminated. in addition, the air condition and radio failed to function, and the windshield wipers functioned slowly. while exiting the highway, the power steering seized and made it difficult to maneuver. the contact had to apply excessive force to turn the steering wheel. also, the vehicle began to shake violently and all the warning indicators illuminated. the contact placed the gear shifter into park, but it failed to go into neutral. the contact called the police and two officers assisted in pushing the vehicle off the ramp into a parking lot. the contact waited for hours then had the vehicle jumpstarted; however, it failed to start. the vehicle was towed to the parking lot of sam's club (1025 e black horse pike, pleasantville, nj 08232). two days later, the contact called the motor world dealer located in wilkes barre, pa 18702 and was informed that fiat chrysler was initiating a recall on faulty alternators. the dealer did not know if the vin was included. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall and, if the vehicle should be repaired, they would not be responsible for the repair, even if the vin were affected. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. the contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the battery light suddenly illuminated and an electrical burning odor was present inside the cabin. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator had overheated and causing damage to the pcm and battery. the vehicle was not repaired. the local dealer was not notified of the failure. the manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Husband thought the lights seemed dim when we were coming home tonight then the battery light went on. advance auto was able to run the diagnostic and said my battery should have 700 cold cranking amps but was registering 373 (or somewhere close to that) but it wasn't showing anything for the alternator after two tests. husband and i had noticed a funny smell in the engine after we had gotten home. well, when i left advance auto, there was a funny buzzing sound, my indicator was saying my seatbelt was unbuckled when it wasn't, my traction control, abs break light, airbag light and i don't know what else started coming on. the buzzing sound got worse so i pulled over to a daycare parking lot from a well traveled road and just as i did, the car shut off and seemed to lock up. everything that should have lit up was dark. no lights whatsoever inside or out, automatic door locks won't work, etc. i can't get the key out, i couldn't put it in neutral, brake petal wouldn't go down...nothing. tow truck was called to take my car home until i could contact repair shop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system) and waited months to schedule a recall repair. the dealer (dave dennis chrysler jeep dodge ram, 4232 colonel glenn hwy, dayton, oh 45431, (937) 429-5566) was contacted and stated that parts were unavailable. the dealer was unable to determine when the part would be supplied from the manufacturer. the contact was uncertain as to when the vehicle would be repaired. the contact was also concerned that he was experiencing a failure due to the recall because the cd player was warm when ejecting a cd. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact was waiting to determine a response from the manufacturer concerning part availability. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.
Check battery light came on, battery lost charge, replaced battery and it lost charge again before able to test alternator. alternator was red hot. will need new battery and alternator. was a recall in 2014 for alternator as well (appears that recall was already done on this car). car died at intersection waiting to turn.
Sudden electrical failure while driving on a city street. alternator failed at 62,000 miles.
Alternator short, serious sudden loss of all electrical and engine control. serious safety issue that could have potentially caused fatal crash.
The battery light indicator illuminated in the driver's information panel. within another minute the drivers seat belt warning began chiming & flashing in the display also, even though the driver's seatbelt was buckled. at this time all of the indicators in the driver's information panel began sporadically flashing. within the next few minutes, the power steering stopped working & the car shut completely down. i had the vehicle towed to a mechanics shop. there, they replaced the battery & alternator. upon replacing the parts, the mechanic listed "more issues exist, vehicle still does not stay running. possible issue with ecm and/or cac". the mechanic also pointed out to me safety recall p60/nhtsa which was for a 2012 dodge durango (same model year as mine). when i contacted the dodge dealer about this recall, he instructed me that it was only for the 160 amp alternator. mine contained the 180 amp alternator & was built about a month before the recalled vehicles. however, both the 160 amp & the 180 amp alternator seem to suffer from the same problems. with only a short check of the internet, i was able to identify over 100 cases of 180 amp dodge durango suddenly losing power while being driven & causing catastrophic electrical failure; some traveling as fast as 40-50 mph. lucky for me, i was only going 10-15 mph within the city limits of bloomington, illinois. although it was around a curve the issue began while i was driving straight on a 6 lane bypass driving between 40-45 mph. i can not begin to explain how unbelievably frustrating it is for the automaker to deny their culpability on an issue that is putting thousands of families in grave danger & equally as disappointing to force their own customers to foot the bill for their own careless mistake.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving 50 mph, every indicator on the instrument panel illuminated, the windshield wipers activated independently, the power steering failed, and the vehicle stalled and lost all power. the vehicle was towed to crossroads chrysler jeep dodge ram (4510 whitehill blvd, prince george, va 23875) where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the contact would need to pay out of pocket because the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. on several occasions, the vehicle stalled immediately after starting. the contact stated that the vehicle would start up after five minutes. the vehicle was taken on several occasions to several independent mechanics to be diagnosed. the contact also stated that addy's harbor dodge inc, located at 4849 highway 501, myrtle beach sc, 25979, diagnosed that the accelerator pedal and brake pedal were being simultaneously depressed. the contact was informed by the independent mechanic that the cx5 module in the vehicle needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the vehicle was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not offer assistance with having the vehicle repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
Driving 50mph with my family when the vehicle completely shut down and i lost control of the vehicle. luckily we were able to stop on the side of the road.
As vehicle was being parked in drive way check engine light came on. as driver walked past vehicle on the way in house he smelled something so popped hood and noticed smoke coming from what appears to be alternator and noticed burn marks. power seemed to be gone as remote would not work to lock doors. roadside assistance came and when he connected a little battery pack type thing to battery to try and charge there were sparks. when he attached jumper cables, they got fried to the point the handle was separated from the cable and just short of catching fire but the other car was turned off to avoid the fire. truck was towed to shop. they said they could not get car to even jump or start using battery pack and when they replaced the battery all together whatever the issue is fried that battery. again was able to smell something. was advised it appears to be associated with the wiring. on 5/10 car was taken to dodge dealer for check engine light and was told fuel pump was issue since relay had been previously replaced as part of recall but when they took relay off they found burn marks on it as well and replaced it.
While driving, the alternator failed causing a near crash with myself, my daughter, and two granddaughters in the vehicle. i never received a recall notice for this issue, but have never heard of an failed alternator actually shutting down a car while driving! with a little research i found that there is, in fact, a recall for this exact issue, on this year vehicle, and yet somehow my vin is not included in the recall?? it's a $1700 repair. . besides the expense, it's a huge safety issue. my alternator failed, exactly as warned in the recall -- the repair should not be at my expense. this is not ok!
This vehicle has a lot of electrical issues. the push start doesn't always work and stalls out. the car has also lost power while i was driving luckily it kick back on before something serious happened. it also tends to shift gears very hard at times.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. the contact stated that the speedometer malfunction and the entire instrument cluster failed. the dealer kolosso chrysler jeep dodge ram (2701 w college ave, appleton, wi 54914 (920) 843-5920) stated that they would fix and cover the electrical issues. the electrical failure occurred intermittently and the vehicle was taken to the dealer up to 10 times for the failure. the dealer replaced the entire instrument cluster however the failure reoccurred. the dealer eventually stated they would no longer cover the vehicle repairs and asked if the contact would trade the vehicle in and purchase a new one. most recent, the vehicle would stall while being driven and attempting to turn. it was unknown if the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 56,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter and pcm box failed. an unknown wire related to the pcm box burned and the starter and pcm box needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,377.
My battery light came on. within minutes all the other lights on my dashboard came on, my air starting blowing hot and then it started to stall. luckily i was on a small road and was able to coast off onto the grass. the car was dead and smoke was pouring from the alternator. i went and bought a new battery and alternator. within in 2 minutes of installing both, my car did the same exact thing. i had to have it towed to the dealership. i was told it was the alternator. i explained that i had already replaced it and think it could be more severe. they told me they would replace the alternator with labor i'm looking at $1200. that's not including if that doesn't fix the issue. they sais it could have fried my (pcm) power control module which could cost me at least $1000 more plus labor. how is it they aren't recalling the 2012 durango with 180 amp alternator but all the others? this car is only 5 years old, i shouldn't have had to replace the alternator going on 3 times now. i don't feel safe driving my son in this car anymore. i've seen enough complaints saying this caused accidents since the car just dies while driving.
My durango died while driving. i had just had the battery tested and was told it was probably the alternator. i did not make it home 2 miles away. it was towed to a firestone who replaced the alternator and battery to discover the pcm was ruined. they told me that there was a recall for a 2012 dodge durango but it was for the 160 amp alternator and not for hte 180 amp alternator. they said the recall number was p60 and everything that happened to my durango matches the signs and symptoms of the recall. my durango was later towed to the dealership who replaced the battery, alternator and pcm.
Upon arriving home, a strong odor of electrical burning was present coming from the engine compartment. the electrical light came on and smoke was visible coming from the engine compartment. the car was parked in the garage and was immediately turned off. similar to recall p60; however our car was not included in the recall because of a different alternator and slightly different engine type.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and caused the battery to fail. as a result, the technician stated that the alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 68,000.
The vehicle does not start when you press the keyless ignition switch. this happened last night in a parking lot, this morning in my garage, and twice today in parking lots. it also has happened intermittently over the past several months, but i didn't think anything about it until it happened four times in a row. i have had to press the switch several times to get the vehicle to start and remove the key fob from my purse. this was not the case previously. the battery in the fob is fine, as the remote start, remote lift gate and remote lock/unlock all work. last night the vehicle did not want to unlock the door using the keyless method and i had to press the remote unlock button on the key fob. also the easy exit seat does not move when you turn off the vehicle. this function has not been working for awhile, even though it is set to move. i feel that there is a problem within the keyless ignition module.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. the contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the contact was advised to have the vehicle diagnosed and the manufacturer would possibly assist with the cost. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 56,044.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge durango. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle lost power and various indicators flickered on the instrument panel. the steering wheel locked up. the vehicle was pulled over and later towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 107,000.
Repeated electrical failures at start up. sept 8 2014- electrical failure at start up: engine light on, stabilization light on, turn signal non-operational, unable to access the milage/temperature menu/computer, windshield wiper active even though the switch was in the off position. result: one week in the shop and the steering control module was replaced. - dec 23- left tail light burnt out and was replaced -jan 15 2015- second electrical failure at start up: engine light on, stabilization light on, turn signal non-operational, unable to access the milage/temperature menu/computer, windshield wiper active even though the switch was in the off position. result: one week in the shop and the steering control module was replaced. april 1 2015- third electrical failure at start up: engine light on, stabilization light on, turn signal non-operational, unable to access the milage/temperature menu/computer, windshield wiper active even though the switch was in the off position. the dealer kept the car for a week and claimed there was "nothing wrong" with the car. then i called corporate and was sent over to the resolution team. they arranged for me to drop off the car for testing on april 14. i picked up the car on may 15- they claim there were no fixes were made and that they "couldn't replicate the problem". feb 3 2017- fourth electrical failure at start up: engine light on, stabilization light on, turn signal non-operational, unable to access the milage/temperature menu/computer, windshield wiper active even though the switch was in the off position. the dealer said it was a blown fuse but they do not know what is causing this short to happen repeatedly.
The vehicle stalls while driving (very intermittently). does not log any engine codes and mainly happens on deceleration. but has happened at highway speeds when exiting the freeway and also at low speeds when coming to a stop sign. when the engine stalls you loose power steering and brakes but all of the electronics keep working radio, lights, etc... i have called chrysler care opened a case, which they assisted in scheduling an appointment for the vehicle at the local dodge dealer. the case was closed by chrysler since the dealership could not duplicate the problem. we bought this vehicle with 50,000 miles on it and it now has 76,000 and has stalled on us several times i would say (12) over the 26,000 miles we have pout on it. if you google this complaint/problem with the 2011/2012 durango it is widely known and a very serious issue to be ignoring, someone is going to be killed because of this.
I was in line to turn left under the underpass. when i pressed the gas, the vehicle would not move. the wheel locked up as i tried to move forward. i had to turn on my emergency lights and signal other to go around on the right because no one could pass me on the left. i put the car in park and restarted it. there was no dashboard light to indicate that anything was wrong. my son was able to record and show that the vehicle was still in drive and not moving. i contacted the area manager to ask if this known, unsafe vehicle could be bought back at the highest nada value. his response was, 'i'm not offering a repurchase.' he shared that he would get another technician personally involved. we just received the car from the shop on wednesday, january 25, 2017 after the entire tipm was replaced and it stopped again! *tr
