Problems with 2011 Dodge Durango SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2011 Dodge Durango starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 75 256 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2011 Dodge Durango

The emergency brake cable simply broke upon regular deployment. the failure happened on a low grade hill, not a steep hill. the dealership, king's dodge, cincinnati, reported the cause of failure was weather corrosion to the components. the estimate to repair it was very expensive. i've never had an emergency brake fail on any of my previous dodge vehicles.

When driving at highway speeds and slowing down to stop or exit the road via off ramp or turn, the vehicle will randomly stall causing brakes and steering to become non-responsive. there is no warning prior to vehicle shutting down. it happens suddenly and randomly. it always appears to be when slowing down to exit a road or take a turn. i have to coast the vehicle until it stops and put it into park or neutral to start it again. it works fine until the next time. it has happened six times in the last month.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to engage. in order to avoid a rear end collison, the contact swerved to the left and drove onto a grass median. the contact stated that the brake indicator illuminated. the contact called deery brothers chrysler dodge jeep ram iowa city (651 highway 1 west, iowa city, ia 52246, (319) 887-9000), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 104,875.

My car would not downshift, i was going 50 mph on freeway and it was raving by itself at 5-6000 rpms....at dealer now they tell me i need a new transmission cooler!!! this vehicle has been a complete lemon, headliner caught on fire while i was driving, due to recall on visors which had already been performed. alternator caught on fire due to recall they had no fix for..engine heads replaced, recall...totally unsafe, as my vehicle lost all power, lights steering, when alternator went out.

I was driving home from work at night. my battery light came on. just got a new battery a few months ago when wiring harness was replaced, because of headliner fire, due to sun visor recall. so, i pull into a parking lot, all kinds of strange lights started flashing car completely lost all power, no lights no emergency lights, nothing! looked under hood and the alternator was smoking. called corporate said it was a recall but they do not have a fix for it. i have to come out of pocket and pay for repairs and be reimbursed by dodge. it also ruined my battery. car is still being serviced so don't know if anything else was damaged as of yet. i will update.

My car lost all power!! while i was driving home from work at night. would not even lock. no lights, no power at all. i was attempting to drive my commute home about 20 miles at night .

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting) and 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the dealer (swope chrysler dodge jeep ram, 1012 n dixie ave, elizabethtown, ky 42701) was contacted and stated that they completed the repair for nhtsa campaign number: 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the parts were unavailable for nhtsa campaign number: 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting). upon leaving the dealer and conducting her own research, the contact found that the recall repair could not be completed within the 15 minute time frame after dropping off the vehicle. in addition, the contact stated that the recall was still opened per the vin. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

2 separate recalls on my vehicle after my vehicle has already had 2 other recalls repaired. the first one is t59 regarding a brake booster water shield. i received a letter regarding the recall a week or so before thanksgiving and it just stated 'important safety recall'. i start making phone calls to dealers and even schedule an appointment with the provided phone number at huntington beach dodge to have the vehicle inspected. when i showed up to my appointment, the service advisor was rude and ended up telling me that he just put his last parts on another vehicle. i had an appointment. i showed up for nothing. so i call around since november of 2017 to find a dealer with the parts. nobody had them and not one dealership seemed to be in a hurry to remedy the recall, telling me 'it's not that big of a deal'. well it is actually, because when i look at the carfax report on this vehicle, the first 7 months since it was brand new it was in oklahoma used as a rental car for 17,000 miles until it was sold. it was also in oklahoma during the winter months where it's raining and snowing, falling perfectly in line with the recall. the vehicle to this day has yet to be inspected for numerous reasons including all contacted dealerships missing the parts needed for replacement and lack of availability of local dealerships to service the vehicle. low and behold, a week after receiving that recall notice, i ended up in a collision with another vehicle because i could not slow down in time and had to take a point on my driving record and potentially have my premiums raised. not only that, the california dmv has issued me a mandatory hearing in which i have to retest in order to determine my ability to drive. a few days ago, i received a different notice that now reads 'urgent recall' and i'm still having the same issue getting the vehicle in for service, while i drive with adefect * (recall related incident) ts

Follow up to previous complaint, running out of characters and files not uploading. the vehicle has slowly but increasingly becoming harder to slow down. day by by, the vehicle requires more and more brake pressure. not a single dealership has parts for both outstanding recalls on my vehicle (t59- brake booster water shield and t-36 - alternator at exceptional risk of catching fire.) mopar has no idea when the parts will be available either. according to the nhtsa policy for automobile manufacturers who issue recalls, they must do so in a timely manner. for t59, the water shield affecting braking ability being issues in november of 2017, coming into january of 2018 still with no parts is absurd even more absurd than that is the t36 recall of several different models, stating that the alternator can potentially catch fire which could also lead to a very devastating situation. that recall was issued in june of 2017 and it is january of 2018 and those replacement alternators are still not available. my car has become a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off and i do not feel like dodge is taking these recalls seriously enough. i do feel like the braking issue recall has contributed to my accident in november, creating a point on my driving record, and now a dmv hearing for driving competency. the safety of my vehicle has been compromised severely, which compromises my safety, my passengers safety, and all of the other drivers on the road as well. dodge/mopar seems to not care very much about these issues and keep referring me to the dealerships. ive been trying to get in since november before my accident to have the water shield evaluated and brakes as well for damage. and given the history of recalls for my vehicle alone, the other 2 recalls for vanity mirror wiring potentially catching fire and also fuel pump failure, my dodge met the criteria for both.

I have received a recall for the alternator diode thermal fatigue and still have not gotten any response to fix my vehicle. the recall for the brake booster was out september and here it is november and i have not been made aware of this recall. i found the recall on line.

Factory wired tow package not setup correctly. built-in brake control wiring harness not receiving voltage when brakes applied/no voltage received from stop light switch to port/wiring harness.

Tamara recall vehicle won't start wiper keep going on and they are off it has a bad tipm the brake system makes a lot of noise.

Traffic slowing down in front of me, i applied the brakes and the pedal went slowly to floor and the brakes did not work causing me to hit the car in front of me, reapplied the brakes and they did work causing me to hit that car again. thought that maybe my foot was depressing both the accelerator and brake so ii used my left foot, result the same. i did this many more times and the brakes did not work. i applied the parking brake and pulled off to the left side of the road when i was sure it was safe. this happened in a construction zone, i managed to avoid hitting any of the workers and the 3 trucks that they were using. one of the workers asked what happened, i explained to him and he tried the brakes, they went were spongy and went slowly to the floor. checked to see if the driver of the vehicle to see if she had any injuries, she said she was alright. the impact was not hard because we were both going the speed. called the michigan state police (refer to incedent # 31-10985-16 and crash report s/n 228890) no ticket issued. called for wrecker to take the vehicle to the nearest chrysler dodge jeep ram dealership. the dealer was garber, 5330 bay road, saginaw michigan 48604, phone # 989-399-8550, service advisor larry cook. they could not find a problem, they contacted chrysler engineering. left vehicle ove night, cause could not be determined. brakes worked fine, brought vehicle home afraid to drive it again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving 15 mph, the air conditioning blew hot air and the instrument panel lighting went haywire. the vehicle started to lose power and acceleration. the contact pulled over, and turned off and restarted the vehicle. to ensure that the vehicle was fine, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to allow the engine to rev. afterwards, the contact was able to drive the vehicle without failure and there were no warning lights illuminated. however, after driving a few miles longer, the power steering and power brakes failed. shortly after, the vehicle lost all power. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home where it had not been able to start. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

My vehicle push to start system sticks and the vehicle takes long attempting to start. my vehicle while driving has gone dead on me although the dash is still lite radio playing. the steering wheel stiffens and the brakes get hard. i have to struggle to pull over and stop in order to place the car back in neutral or park in order to start it again. it has stalled while in motion, while slowing down for a red light, while making a turn. i have had several near misses of other cars, curbs, and ditches. i use this car every day to transport myself and my children. i have had this car to the dealership numerous times, have had the tipm bypass and the car still hard starts and stalls despite the recalls. i am totally disappointed with this situation that is a definite hazard. most recent complaint, my car has be idling high and now finally it overheat and the water pump has to be replaced. i am totally disappointed.

While on the highway i a check battery light appeared on my dash, i planned on checking into it at the upcoming gas station which was about 3 miles away, as i approached the offramp to the gas station all kinds of check engine lights and abs and you name it started showing in my dash followed by the wipers and next thing you know the car dies out. lucky for me there was no vehicle in front of me because i could not steer or brake because it was very hard or locked, i managed to pull over just before the gas station and sensed the smell of burned wire, i noticed i was not completely off the road so i tried putting vehicle in neutral but it was locked in park, also my key was stuck in the ignition. local mechanic changed the battery first and still had the check battery light on so he reccomended a new alternator as well which i bought immediately, 900.00 later here i sit with new alternator and baterry but still the same problem with vehicle stalling and check battery light on. dealer says my vehicle is not in the p60 recall even though i have/had the same 160 amp alternator as the recalled vehicles. this is a serious issue which can become deadly if not fixed asap. im sure of one thing, never in my life will me or my family buy a dodge again.

Front brakes not catching

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. while driving at an unknown speed, an abnormal sound emitted from the brakes. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes hydraulic); however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the rotors were defective and that the brake and pads failed to released without a warning. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

The very first time was when i was slowing down from about 50mph at a corner in order to take a right hand turn, about halfway through the 90 corner i feel that the steering has stiffened. looking down, i see that the tachometer now reads 0, and the engine has died. i cannot simply slip it into neutral and then restart it because of the car has a keyless pushbutton and the start button only works with the drive in park. i then have to armstrong it through the rest of the corner. as i finish up the turn to where i can safely stop and restart, i then push the brakes only to find that they are now totally stiff because there is now no vacuum left to assist. i end up costing to a stop. the car always restarts without any problem. this problem has persisted and has happened at least 20 times since. it is always is when slowing down from anywhere from 60 to 30 mph and beginning to take a right turn. i have never seen this happen when doing a left, but there are not to many chances to duplicate this scenario doing a left. we had the one recall for the fuel pump done so that should not be it. we have complained about this to numerous dodge dealers and they have done nothing. one service writer said that he knew of the problem, knew that the fuel pump recall was not fixing it and that there was going to be another recall to fix the problem. when this happens unexpectedly as you are going 25 mph in a traffic roundabout, it is all you can do to try to steer through the rest of the traffic circle, only to find that your power brakes are failed as you try to stop to restart. this is a very serious defect that needs immediate attention, someone is going to be killed with this happening, either the occupants of the car, or the public. we also have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee and it is doing the exact same thing, but more because it is driven more.

I tried for 7 months to get the brake recall done on my truck. the awd did not work as it should during a snow storm.. then the recall was recieved and none of the dealers wanted to repair the recall. they kept telling me they hadnt received the parts. then there was a fuel type recall, a recall that the engine could shut off and some electrical issue that could cause a fire.. again i couldnt get any of these repaired. then on the night before thanksgiving 2014 my heat went. on friday 11/28/14 i tried 3 chrysler dealer ships to get the heat fixed and schedule time for the recall. one dealership told me i was at the bottom of the list because i didnt purchase the truck from them. i ended up trading in the truck for a nissan pathfinder on that day. and almost a month later i received a bill from a chrysler dealer ship who had finally completed the recall work expecting 165.00 from me. i am so financially ruined from this.

I could not get any of the recalls fixed! 2 dodge dealerships in my area would only look and not correct my brake issue. one dealership told me i was at the bottom of the list because i did not purchase my durango there!

The hasn't been an "incident" yet. i have a recall and was told by the dealership that they are only receiving 4 parts each week and have a waiting list of over 100 people. this is unacceptable! by the time i am able to get my vehicle fixed, i could have a serious accident by then. *tr

I have received notification for three different recalls on my dodge durango. the first recall notice was received on 7/21/14 for p36 p14, the second recall was received on approx. 11/10/14 for p54/nhtsa 14v-530, and the third recall was received on 112/19/14 for p14/nhtsa 14v-154. each time i received a recall notice i contacted south hills chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram to schedule an appointment to have my dodge service and the recalls fixed. each time i was told that the dealer did not have parts in stock and that there were 400 people on the waiting list in front of me and they could give me an estimate on when they could fix my vehicle. on 12/22/14 i contacted three rivers jeep dodge and they immediately scheduled me for a service appointment for 12/23/14 and indicated the parts for p36 p14 and p 14/nhtsa 14v-154 were readily available by all dodge dealers. it is extremely concerning that the south hills chrysler dodge dealer had no sense of urgency in addressing these important safety recalls. *tr

You sent out a recall on my vehicle. i called and made an appt., with dealership for june 2014. when i showed for my appt., i was informed that they did not have parts needed to fix my vehicle. i was told to call them in august because that's when the parts would be in. i called in august and was told they are only getting a few parts at a time and for me to check back periodically. i just called them and they now have put me on a waiting list stating they still do not have parts and that several are in front of me on list. your letter states that i need to file a complaint if the problem is not fixed without charge and in a timely manner. *tr

Received recall p14/nhtsa 14v-154 late may/ early june of this year. called dealer 6/5/2014 and was told parts not yet available. called again 8/7/2014 and was told when parts come in i will be contacted. 9/17/2014 called dealer to check status and he had no more information or even a guess on when parts will be available. i then contacted chrysler group via the 800 number on the web site and was told that the brake parts are being sent in "controlled quantities"? the person i spoke with answered my questions from a script and could not explain to me why a recall concerning brakes is being handled on a one to one basis. he told me when the dealer verifies that the recall has been satisfied on one vehicle another part is then sent to the dealer for the next affected vehicle. my question/complaint is why are the parts being rationed for such a vital part of safe vehicle operation and now that this recall is well into its fourth month when should i expect the repairs to be completed? this vehicle is used in a four season environment with very harsh winters. it is also the primary vehicle that my wife and children use everyday. i would like chrysler to be compelled to act quickly on this recall and not put profit over public and personal safety. *tr

I received a safety recall notice p14 / nhtsa 14v-154 related to the brake booster on my car. i called the local dealer (tate chrysler dodge in glen burnie, md) to schedule a repair and was told due to parts limitations (they were only able to order 1 part every 7 days) that it would be approximately 1 year before the repair can be made because i was around number 60 on the list. this means i will have to drive the vehicle throughout the winter, which is when the part failure is most likely to occur. *tr
