We have classified the 372 complaints from 2006 Dodge Durango about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Everytime i completely fill up the fuel tank on my 2006 dodge durango, i get gas sprayed all over the side of the vehicle. it has started occurring in the last few months, and it will occur everytime unless i fill it at the slowest pump speed, and then sometimes it still occurs. *tr
Starting about 6 weeks ago, everytime we fillup the tank it overflows at the end of the process. the overflow spews gasoline all over the side of the car and on the pavement creating a safety and environmental hazard. in some cases, either my wife or i received splash impact on our hands and clothes. *tr
When fueling my vehicle, the fuel overflows at the end of the fill-up spitting approximately 1 pint of gas each time. the condition occurs when the tank is shown as empty or partially empty (i.e. 1/2 tank). in addition, the issue occurs whether i manually hold the gas pump lever or place the pump lever on its automatic latch. the problem has become consistent over the past 2-3 months while it only occurred a few times in the past 2 years that i have owned the vehicle. i just took the vehicle to the dealer for review and they have indicated that they could not duplicate the issue, 3/19, and on 3/22 the fuel spitting occurred during fill-up once again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel spilled out from the filler neck while refueling. the failure was experienced numerous times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but assistance with repairs was denied because the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 160,000. the vin was unavailable.
When i fill up my gas tank, the gas does not shut off, but overflows spewing gasoline out all over the place. the last two times i filled up, there was just a small amount which overflowed. today i was doused with gasoline from my waist to my ankles. *tr
Drive to any gas station, with gas gauge on anywhere from empty to a quarter full. insert gas pump nozzle into vehicle with normal care. start to pump gas. activate the "no hands" lever. when the tank is full, the pump automatically stops. a few seconds later, a significant amount of gas burps back out of the vehicle. enough fuel is spilled to wash all down the side of the vehicle and splash onto the operator. an ignition source would cause quite a fire. this spill has happened regularly for a few years and the only way to prevent it is to intentionally stop the pump before the tank is full. this is not an operator issue - it happens to whomever pumps the gas, at any gas station. it has happened for a few years. as i searched the internet for the repair, i see a large number of identical complaints, and even videos with the exact issue. so i finally decided to add my voice to the mix.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that every time he fills up the vehicle with gasoline, fuel would spew out of the gas tank and splash all over him. the dealer stated that the issue could not be repaired under warranty and would cost $1,400. there is a recall regarding this fuel system issue for the 2005 durango, but not the 2006. the contact feels that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since there is a recall for the previous year. the current mileage was 47,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.
I bought my durango over a year and a half ago. this was in the spring when winter rolled around and cooler months all fuel pumps would over fill the fuel tank. problem went away in the spring then this fall/winter the problem came back again. it acts as if the fuel vapor recovery system is becoming restricted with the cooler temperatures. causing fuel to be burped out after the pump shuts off. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel spilled from the filler neck when she refueled the vehicle. the failure occurred whenever the tank had reached its capacity. the vehicle was being diagnosed by the local dealer. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000 and the current mileage was approximately 78,000.
I have a 2006 dodge durango and every time i fill up the gas tank it shoots gas out of the filler neck. there was no problems leading up to the problem. i brought it to the dodge dealer and everything checked out on the diagnosis. *tr
At the end of refueling my 2006 durango gasoline just comes pouring out. it goes out all over my durango and me. every single time. the dealer wants to charge me about $800 to replace the tank. *tr
I am the original owner of a 2006 dodge durango and every time i fill it up the gas tank overflows when the automatic nozzle shuts off or if i have been carefully putting in gas at a slow pace. this is a safety problem especially when your standing in a pool of gasoline. i have researched this problem on the web and found several 2006 durango owners responded on the dodge forum with the same problem. apparently the 2005 durango had the same problem, but was recalled and fixed. when will dodge make this right for all the 2006 durango owners? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. whenever the contact fills the fuel tank, gasoline sprays out of the tank. the fuel nozzle stops whenever the tank is full; however, fuel still sprays out of the tank. the failure occurs without warning. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the fuel tank filler pipe and cap. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 64,000 and current mileage was 66,000. updated 1/8/09 *cn the dealer found a faulty tank inlet check valve. updated 01/14/09.*jb
When filling the fuel tank, a large quantity of fuel spews out at the end. this started ~6 months ago, and now happens every time the tank is filled. it has happened at a number of different gas stations / pumps. this appears to be the same issue as described in a 2005 durango recall, however 2006 vehicles are not covered in the recall. all equipment is original (no parts replaced). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that when he added gasoline to the fuel tank it would over flow. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised him they would have to remove the entire fuel tank in order to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000. the vin was unavailable.
When my fuel tank is empty and i refill the tank, after the pump clicks off gas pours out of the tank. this has been happening for about 7 weeks. also sometimes when starting the vehicle it doesn't start but continues to turn itself over and over even after the key is shut off. this happens sporadically and dodge refuses to fix either one although the vehicle is still under warranty, because it cannot be duplicated at the shop. *tr
For the last 3 months, every time i fill up my gas tank, when i remove the nozzle from the tank gasoline overflows on the side of my vehicle and the ground. at first, i thought it must be a problem with the pump at the gas station, but i reported it to my dealer during my last oil change, and he said my gank tank needed to be replaced. *tr
I have read complaints from other 06 durango owners of my problem. there was a recall for the 05 model but not the 06. my gas tank overflows on me and down the side of my car and to the ground. i feel this is unsafe in multiple ways and feel that dodge should address it. *tr
2006 durango hemi v4 5.7 ltd. fuel overflows onto ground and truck when filling up tank. *tr
The fuel tank on my dodge durango spews gas out onto the vehicle and pavement at the end of filling up the gas tank. this began occurring about 3 months ago and happens every time i fill up. this is an extremely dangerous situation. the gas could ignite, plus it is an environmental hazard. my local dodge dealership (roger williams dodge) is refusing to pay for the repair. after researching this problem, i find this is a widespread issue with durangos. i should not have to pay for something that is obviously a factory defect. i want the gas tank replaced immediately on my vehicle. *tr
On my 2006 dodge durango, every time i fill up to where the gas nozzle clicks it spews fuel all over the place. it is usually under a quart, but it has repeatedly caused some scary circumstances as to where i feared for my safety. *tr
Fuel spills out of the gas tank when finished filling up. i called dodge on 10/28/2009 to see if there was a recall. dodge said there was a recall, but only on the 2005 models, not the 2006 models. they gave me a case # and told me to get it checked out by my dealership. when i got to the dealership they wanted to charge me to look at it. i thought that i was the only one with this problem, however i see over 270 complaints here on the d.o.t. website. this is a serious safety and environmental issue. i can tell you that the ecco friendly vapor locking gas pumps do not work on my durango when gas comes spraying out the fuel filler neck all over the truck, ground, and anything near it including people. someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed and i hope it isn't my 16 yr. old son who just got his license. this is an obvious defect of the fuel check valve and the recall should be extended to the 2006 models as well. i will be taking videos of my next several fill-ups as evidence. how many complaints does it take to get some action?

Everytime i put gas in my tank and is almost full i get a shower of gas on me, the car, the floor. this is getting to be ridiculous, i have had to come home and change clothes because of the fuel spill. are we waiting for someone to catch on fire or have someone killed before this issue gets resolved. the 2005 durango has the same defect and it was recalled. please anyone do something about it before somebody gets injured or killed. *tr

Fuel filler tube overflows after fuel pump at the gas station hits the auto shut-off point. notified dealer who said they hadn't heard anything about a problem like that, but offered to look into it for a charge. approximately 1-2 cups of fuel shoots out of the filler tube every time the vehicle is filled. the fuel sprays over whomever is filling the vehicle and is ruining the paint around the filler tube. there is an extreme fire/explosion danger as well as potential for damage to eyes, lungs, and skin. this is also damaging to the environment. *tr

Fuel tank overflow i have a 2006 dodge durango that i absolutely "love" except the fact that the past 12 months has developed a problem. every time i fill up with gas (even at different stations), my gas tank over fills and gas is "gushing" out and a good amount is lost. my concern is not so much the expense in waste of extra gas i need to pay for. but, i have gas dripping down the side of my truck and in between my bumper fascia. and, this also causes a great scent of gasoline that also somehow gets into the vehicle, and lingers for quite a bit of time afterwards. i have purchased this vehicle mainly for the safety and security it has given me while driving my 4 year old son. he hates the smell of gas. i now fill up when i do not have him in the truck. i have done some research and discover a recall id# 58886 which seems to describe the same exact situation i am having. unfortunate for me, this recall was for 2005 dodge durango's and not 2006. i would like to have this situation investigated. i would like to request a recall for 2006 dodge durango's be considered as well. in speaking with my gas station petroleum pumper's, they all (at various stations such as sunoco and hess) mention to me that a lot of durango that come in have that problem. so, it does make me feel better knowing i am not alone. this is still a consistent problem that really, for safety reason must be resolved. unfortunately, there are many inconsiderate people that i have come across at gas stations that take pleasure in discarding their lit cigarettes onto the ground. and, i will be very upset (if i was to live) if that ignited light came in contact with gas that has spilled out of my vehicle. i greatly thank you for taking the time to read my concern. and, i really am hoping that you can help to resolve my situation, and others in my area. *tr

When fueling 2006 dodge durango, fuel erupts out of fuel tank filler when tank fills completely. this is identical to recall 05v034000 but does not include 2006 model year. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while placing fuel in the vehicle, the tank became full and gasoline shot out of the tank and onto the ground and the contact. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. the current mileage was 54,000 and failure mileage was 43,000.
When filling up gas tank gas overflows creating a huge mess, at-least half a gallon comes gushing out. this has damaged the paint and has dowsed me with gasoline numerous times. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the vehicle was parked and the contact observed a fuel spill when dispensing over a quart of gasoline into the fuel tank. the contact stated that the fuel sprayed out whenever dispensing fuel into the tank. the failure had occurred since vehicle was purchased. the dealer stated that the failures was directly related to the recall defect under nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system gasoline tank assembly). the failure and current mileages were 7,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while dispensing fuel into the fuel tank to its capacity, the fuel began to spray out continuously. the driver stated that the fuel spilled onto his shirt sleeve. there was no personal injury. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the technician was unable to locate the problem which there was no resolutions. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. the contact had concern of the potential safety hazard. the failure mileage was 20,000.
From the time my vehicle was new i had issues with the gas nozzle clicking off but the gas coming back out of the tank. in the beginning it was a very little bit and i could stand there and monitor it and pump in slowly and it wouldn?t do it. it has steadily progressed to where every time i try and fill my tank the gas pump would click off but the gas gushes out onto me and the car and the pavement ? anywhere from 2 to 5 cups of gas. the tank isn't even full when it does this. i have had it do it when i have only pumped 1 gallon into the tank and continue to click off every couple of cents. it takes at least 10 minutes to put gas in my tank and then it isn't full. it does this no matter what gas station i go to. i have had the tps replaced 3 times, the fuel pump twice......i can't help but feel that all of these problems are inter-related. my minor concern is that this will cause a medical emergency for me as i have acute asthma/breathing issues. this has caused asthma attacks that i have been able to control but my fear is one day i will not be able to control it. my major concern is the gushing out of fuel will eventually result in a fire at the gas station. i really cannot believe there has not been a recall issued as this was a problem with the 2005 durango's that a recall was issued (nhtsa campaign id #09v003000, nhtsa action #rq08005) - no one is working to protect the public after their obvious failure to correct the problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated when filling the fuel tank with gasoline, approximately half a quart of fuel would spew back out of the vehicle filler tube. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where he was advised repairs to the vehicle would be at his own expense. the manufacturer was previously notified of the failure but would not offer any assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 150. the approximate current mileage was 7,000.
Im sick of gas coming back out of gas filler neck i can not believe dodge has not addressed this problem as they did on the 2005 durangos i believe this could be dangerous and gas is a known carcinogen it happens everytime i fill up i was told at the dealer there was no recall im just tired of it. *tr
2006 dodge durango gas tank doesn't click off when full and overflows. *tr

My 2006 dodge durango spits gas out of the tank when filling. it shoots gas allover the side of the durango and on anyone within a few feet. *tr
When filling the fuel tank, fuel gushes out of the fill tube as the pump shuts off. this poses a serious risk of fire and explosion. it has also rusted the area below the fill tube. *tr
