Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Dodge Durango

While refueling my 2006 dodge durango limited at various gas stations between pensacola florida and san antonio texas, fuel comes spewing out of the refuel nozzle once the pump cuts off and the tank is full this has happened over 60 times since owning the vehicle, and at various gas stations across america. my wife has reuined a pair of shoes and a dress because fuel came spewing out and got all over her, the truck and the ground. this is a safety and fire hazard. the 2005 durango was recalled for the same problem, but the 2006 is being ignored. you can see a video of this happening on youtube by looking for 2006 durango fueling problems. chrysler has contacted me concerning th eproblem, but want me to pay for the diagonosis, and if parts are found defective, they will pay for the repair. i am a retired military war veteran and disabled veteran, i cannot afford $400+ to diagnos a problem they may not cover repairs on i have googled this problem and also belong to two dodge durango web groups and multiple owners have this problem. someone please look into this before a mishap occurs. in the meantime, i only put 19 gallons in my durango and stop fueling. even when i do this, fuel comes back up th etube, but not all the way out. *tr

I purchased a 2006 dodge durango 4x4 limited with a 5.7l v8 on 13 may 2010. on three separate occasions from 13-26 may, the valve assembly failed to close on the gas tank filler pipe while refueling resulting in fuel overflow and spillage. this is the same problem that has been identified in the 2005 model year for durangos in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000. after checking this website and dodge's, no recalls for this defect exist for my vin. *tr

While filling my 2006 dodge durango everytime i fill it full the nozzle kicks off and within 1-2 seconds gas come back out of the tank covering the nozzle and anything within 1-3 feet in front of the tank. dropping about 1/2 gallon of gas everywhere. *tr

When pumping gas the pump shuts off and then the gas shoots out all over me and the side of the car. it happens every time i get gas and covers me and the side of the car with the spillage. nothing has been done to fix the problem. i was told because i bought it used it was not something the company would fix. i hope a fire does not occur because of this overflow problem. *tr

Every time i fill my 2006 dodge durango up with gas, it overflows and spews gas everywhere. it spills approximately 1 pint of gas onto the ground and whomever is pumping the gas. *tr

2006 dodge durango - when filling it up with gasoline, just after the pump clicks off a large amount of gas will come spraying out from the filler entrance. this has happened at different gas stations. *tr

My 2006 dodge durango began having issues with the fuel tank one year ago. every time i fill up the tank, after the nozzle automatically shuts off, gas spews back out of the car onto me and the exterior of the vehicle. may 2011 a service shop found that a solenoid had failed and replaced it. they also found that the surge canister was holding gasoline, as it likely is filled when the tank spews gas back out. replacing the solenoid did not correct the problem, and the service technician informed me that there were several reports of this occurring with other dodge durangos, but that my year vehicle had not been recalled. only 2005 durangos have been recalled for this exact same problem. i reported this to chrysler on may 24, and the case manager contacted me on may 31 to report that chrysler was choosing not to assist in replacing the fuel tank, and at this time has not recalled for this safety issue. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. when the contact filled the fuel tank, he noticed fuel would suddenly shoot from the filler neck. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 34,000. the current mileage was approximately 44,000

2006 dodge durango leaks gas when tank is filled just like the 2005 models. *tr

Everytime i fill up the fuel tank on my 2006 dodge durango, the gas pours out of the filler tube when the pump shuts off when it's full. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that the fuel would overflow from the fuel tank before the pump shut off whenever he filled the vehicle. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was approximately 56,000. the failure mileage was approximately 54,500.

When filling up the vehicle before the gas shut off engages, gas will spew out from the tank covering our clothing, vehicle and person (hair, face, skin, arms) with gasoline. this occurs every time we fill the tank to its fullest so to remedy the problem, we stop before we know the vehicle would be full. however, this isn't a full-proof fix as this weekend, our son filled the vehicle and was covered in gas in his hair, face, and clothing. *tr

Gas tank overfilling at fuel fillup. *tr

2006 dodge durango every time i fill up the tank it spit back fuel at me. *tr

We have a 2006 dodge durango that spits out fuel whenever you file the gas tank. i am aware of several other complaints with this year model and exact problem. i am concerned that this defect is gong to cause personal injury from gas contacting skin or eyes, or possibly a fire situation that can cause loss of life. we are the original owners of this vehicle and noticed that the problem developed sometime in 2010. dodge is showing no recall, however, i am convinced that this is a manufacture defect. i have never experienced a problem like this with any vehicle i have owned. *tr

This problem started when the vehicle was about 3 1/2 years old. it did not do this from the beginning of ownership. when fueling the car, if you attempt to fill it up completely, there is always a back splash of fuel splashing out of the fuel tank and onto the car, pavement and of course, the person filling up the car. i am never able to completely fill up the car because of this. also, when this happens, there is a chance of a fire occurring. not safe at all. my research found that 2005 dodge durangos were recalled for this same problem (campaign id number 05v034000), yet nothing has ever been done to fix the same issue with 2006 models. please do something about this problem! *tr

We get drenched with gasoline when we fill up our 2006 durango gas tank. when the gas pump clicks off, gas shoots out from the fuel fill. in checking with dodge, they have exact problem with their 2005 durango, which was recalled. this 2006 needs to be recalled too. very dangerous situation, not only for us, but for the next fuel customer who may be standing in a pool of gasoline from our durango.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that when refueling the vehicle, the pump would shut off yet one-fourth of gasoline would spew back out from the filler tube onto the ground and on the vehicle. the contact was unable to fill the vehicle with gasoline and could only refuel with small amounts of gasoline at a time. the dealer advised having the vehicle diagnosed at the contact's expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 23,500 and the current mileage was 26,800.

2006 dodge durango. gas gushes out of the fill hole. does this repeatedly. *tr

I own a 2006 dodge durango slt with around 70,000 miles on it. everytime i fill up at a gas station from empty, the tank overflows around 4-5 cups of gasoline. once the pump stops, gas starts spewing from the filler neck. i've contacted the dealer and they have stated the current recall only covers the 2005 durango's and i would have to pay for this repair at my own cost. i feel this is a major safety issue and it needs to be addressed immediately! i have seen numerous reports about this on the web and even videos proving it yet nothing has been done about it. *tr

We bought a used 2006 dodge durango and started having problems with the vehicle soon after our purchase. we have had to have several things fixed via recalls but what is most concerning to me is the gas tank overflow problem we have been having. i went online to look up recalls and found the 2005s were recalled for the same problem but the 2006s do not fall under the recall. i called chrysler/dodge and they agreed to pay half of the 950.00 that is was going to cost to repair the problem. we had to send the original receipt and work order from the dealer which we did. that was back in april and we still have yet to be reimbursed. after researching the internet i found several people in the same situation as myself. the gas shutoff valve clicks off but gasoline spits out all over me, the car, and the ground every time i go to fill it. it has also splashed in my eyes on several occasions. if anybody were to be smoking or have a cell phone this could cause a fire and serious bodily injury. since dodge feels it is not their problem i am ready to rally the troops to sue them. please help me resolve the problem and get my money back from what they should be repairing before somebody blows up. here are several more complaints about the same thing. http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2006/dodge/durango/, http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/dodge/durango/fuel+system. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact was refueling the vehicle when gasoline began to spew from the filler neck. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure did not recur. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.

Fuel overflowing upon completion of refueling vehicle

Every time i fill up my 2006 dodge durango with gas, it overflows spewing gas all over my vehicle and the surrounding ground. *tr

During every fill up at the gas station, gas spits out of the tank of my 2006 dodge durango. it doesn't matter what gas station or which pump i use. i have tried pulling the pump out in the middle of the fueling to vent the tank and this doesn't work either. there was a recall of 2005 dodge durangos for this very same problem. obviously it was not corrected. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango, and have had it for a year and a half. the fuel overspray has been a problem since the beginning. if i leave it on the auto fill it will click off and puke almost a full quart of fuel on the ground. if i hand fill it at a slower rate it will puke only about a pint. this last time in a snowstorm it sprayed upward and not just out, had i not been wearing glasses i would have had fuel in the eyes. potential for lost eyesight for the shorter people. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated when refueling the vehicle, the gasoline would spew back out from the fuel tank filler tube. the contact stated the filler tube inlet valve was defective and was able to locate an unknown recall pertaining to the failure. the dealer advised the contacts vehicle was not included in the recall. he did not contact the manufacturer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure and current mileages were 56,000.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) gas shoots out of my gas tank when i fill it up at the station spilling gas all over the side of the vehicle and usually on me too. it is a 2006 dodge durango, i believe there is a defective part or complete gas tank. i have placed a complaint with chrysler/dodge already. complaint number i filed was [xxx] . this happens every time i fill up with gas!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated when fueling the vehicle, the filler tube inlet valve would not close fully. the dealer advised replacing the fuel tank assembly at the owners expense. the manufacturer advised they would offer the contact $100 toward repairs and if refused, they would not authorize the dealer to replace the fuel tank. the vin was unknown and the failure mileage was 55,000.

Fuel tank overflow i have a 2006 dodge durango that has in the past 2 months developed a problem. every time i fill up with gas (even at different stations), my gas tank over fills and gas is "gushing" out and a good amount is lost. this is a very unsafe situation due to every time i fill up gas runs down the side of my truck and creates a puddle on the ground which could catch on fire! i have done some research and discover a recall id# 58886 which seems to describe the same exact situation i am having. unfortunate for me, this recall was for 2005 dodge durango's and not 2006. i believe a recall should be initiated for the 2006's as i have seen a lot of postings in forums of many 2006 durango's experiencing the same problem, it appears to be a factory defect as it just started two months ago after about 70,000 miles. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango and when you fill the fuel tank, fuel gushes out of the pipe when the pump shuts off. this happens every time. it is the same thing that the 2005 durangos were recalled for. i'd like mine recalled. 2005 recall nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 and09v003000. the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. *tr

Some fuel escapes from the vehicle through the filler neck of the fuel tank filler tube at the end of refueling. maybe inlet check valve not fully close at the end of refueling. just like 2005 recall but no recall issued on 2006. i've gotten sprayed with gas 6 times so far (about a pint each time) when filling tank. *tr

Gasoline spits out of fuel filler neck on 2006 dodge hemi durango whenever the tank is filled. vehicle purchased new in june 2006. fuel spillage issue began in approximately june 2009 at about 75,000 miles. i have cleaned all of the vents and filler tubes to no avail. problem continues. identical to failures recalled by campaigns 05v034000 and 09v003000 which claimed the problem had been resolved by a manufacturing change to the fuel inlet check valve. *tr

Fuel tank does not shut off automatically and overflows when fuel tank is full. i have owned this vehicle for almost 4 years and it overflows fuel every time it is filled up. the 2004 and 2005 models had a recall for this, i have read thousands of complaints for 2006 models for the same problem with the fuel tank. when will you make dodge recall the 2006 models for this? i am waiting for a gas station to charge me for haz-mat clean up over this. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that whenever he fueled the vehicle, fuel would pour back out. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the check valve needed to be replaced. the contact called the manufacturer who advised him to take the vehicle to the dealer. the failure mileage was 82,000. updated 03/08/11 *bf updated 03/23/11 updated 1/4/11 *cn

When pumping gas, the gas splashes out when the gas tank fills up. i have tried different service stations, holding the gas nozzle or letting it shut off by itself with the same results. it is a big splash, enough that i have to stand back in order to not get it on my clothes and shoes. this has happened several times. *tr

Make: dodge model: durango year: 2006 complaint number: 10308443 summary: i have a 2006 dodge durango and when you fill the fuel tank, fuel gushes out of the pipe when the pump shuts off. this happens every time. it is the same thing that the 2005 durangos were recalled for. i'd like mine recalled. 2005 recall nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 and 09v003000. the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. *tr

Dodge durango vehicles, fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling . this allows some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. consequence: fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango and every time i fill it up the tank overflows when the automatic nozzle shuts off. this is a safety problem especially when your standing in a pool of gasoline. when researching this problem on the web several 2006 durango owners responded on the dodge forum with the same problem. apparently the 2005 durango had the same problem, but was recalled and fixed. dealers want to fix with a $600 to $700 new tank instead of admitting that it's really a design problem. you should look into this problem before someone gets blown up.*tr

When filling up with gas, if pump is allowed to cut off, it will spray gas out around the nozzle. the gas travels several feet covering vehicle and person filling tank.

When fueling vehicle gas will discharge from the filler neck prior to valve closing on fuel filler hose. occurs at multiple fill stations and is not specific to one fuel pump. defect and complaints noted for 2005 model year appear to be present in 2006 model year. no damage or replacement has occurred to oem fuel system. failure occurs with every fueling for the past six months. failure involves environmental and safety impacts for discharge of raw fuel while fueling. *tr

Just purchased used 2006 dodge durango limited upon filling the fuel tank for the first time fuel pump shut off after about 4 gallons and gasoline spewed from tank and filler neck, continued to do the same thing unless i filled the tank very slowly. this seems to be pretty common problem with the durango and is potentially a serious safety hazard not only to the people filling the vehicle but to others around, not to mention potential damage to vehicle finish. *cn

I just purchased a 2006 dodge durango slt and everytime we fill the tank gas shoots out of the filler neck. you can hear it forcefully coming up the fill tube after the nozzle clicks off. if you slowly continue filling then you can top off the tank with another 5 gallons. this has happened several times and covered me with gas while standing over 3 feet away from the vehicle. *tr
