We have classified the 372 complaints from 2006 Dodge Durango about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Fuel sprayed out of the filler tube after filling the tank to full and nozzle clicked off. this has happened on several occasions. i no longer fill up all the way to prevent any more overflows and potential fires. problem is same as 2005 recall but dealer will not repair without a recall for 2006 durango. *tr
Filling the gas tank results in fuel being blown back out of the fill. *tr
When fueling my vehicle and the pump clicks off, fuel just spews from the tank all over the ground [about a cup of gas each time] which upsets me due to the environmental factor and safety issues. this happens every time over the past year, even at the lowest refuel speed. i noticed many complaints from other 2006 durango owners and that 2005 models have been recalled for the same problem. the my car is a 2006 durango, 47,000 miles, 5.7l hemi, 4wd. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while the contact was adding gasoline to the vehicle it began to spill out of the fuel tank. the failure recurred whenever the full tank was full. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an authorized dealer who stated that he needed to replace the fuel tank. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 56,600. updated 03/10/11 *bf updated 12/14/11 *cn
When the vehicle is being refueled the automatic fuel shut off does not work and fuel is spilled on the vehicle and on surrounding grounds. *tr
Fuel spray at the end of refueling contacted dodge for the concern for a service bulletin dated 1-20-2012 but my veh doesn't have a x39 for the unlimited time and mileage warranty extension, the bulletin states for 2006-2008 durango and 2007-2008 aspen,no build date,no salt belt area,no engine size. dodge decides what durango gets a x39 ..and if the cust;experiences this symptom/condition ,proceed with the repair what does it take to get the x39 so we can get this fixed... *tr
When i fill my truck with gas it spews out. i have gotten to where i never completely fill my truck. when is someone going to investigate this and issue a recall? i have a feeling that the only way we dodge owners get this problem fixed is if someone is hurt while trying to fill their truck. all it would take is one spark when the gas spills out. please, force dodge to fix this issue before we hear on the news that someone is injured. *tr
The vehicle spews gas once fueling begins. it overflows the gas tanks and a lot of fuel spills on the ground. this is an ongoing issue with every refuel of the vehicle which began in october 2010. *tt
I have a dodge durango 2006. everytime i fill the gas tank, the gas overflows and spills out onto the ground and side of vehicle. *tr
We own a 2006 dodge durango, hemi 8 -cyl engine. we are the first and only owners of the vehicle. when fueling the gas tank, significant quantities of fuel shoot out after the pump has stopped. the person fueling the vehicle gets covered in fuel. fuel is spilt on ground and on side of vehicle. it makes no difference where you refuel, so it is not station specific. the cabin to the durango fills with fuel vapors and the situation poses significant risk of fire. there are also significant environmental hazards associated with the constant spilling of the gas. it seems that there are other recalls for this issue with the 2005 durangos, but not our 2006. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while adding fuel to the vehicle the contact noticed that an excessive amount of fuel sprayed back on her, the ground and the vehicle. she also stated that occasionally a few days later the smell of fuel was in the vehicle. she referenced recall 05v034000, fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap and stated that she did not understand why this recall did not include the 2006 vehicles. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised her that the entire fuel tank needed replacing. she stated that the pre-owned vehicle was purchased on october 15, 2010 and she noticed the failure, the following day. a complaint was filed with the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 97,800 and the current mileage was 99,300.
The fuel tank inlet check valve has stuck in the open position. this results in a safety hazard whereby upon filling the gas tank, gas sprays back out of the filler tube on to the person filling the gas. if this occurs in the presence of an ignition source, a significant fire/explosion could occur. the same issue resulted in a recall on 2005 dodge durango vehicles (nhtsa campaign no. 09v-003 (h45). in reference to the recall and associated documents, chrysler's recall for the fuel tank issue was estimated by chrysler to impact less than 20% of vehicles included in the recall, but in reality, in excess of 50% of vehicles inspected required repair (per the 9/30/10 chrysler recall quarterly report). please review the following clip as this appears to be an issue with the model year 2007 as well. When filling the fuel tank, a large quantity of fuel sprays the refueler after tank is full and pump has already shut off. it appears as though a high back pressure builds inside the tank and may be contributing to this problem. this happens regardless of filling station and has contributed to clothing and bodily contact with gasoline. *tr
Fuel tank overflows each time i fill up, no matter where i purchase fuel. approximately 8 ounces of fuel spills out onto the side of the vehicle and ground. *ln
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. whenever the contact fueled the vehicle, the gasoline would spill back out onto the vehicle. the contact called the dealer who offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer had not been notified. the failure mileage was approximately 48,000 and the current mileage was approximately 50,000. updated 1/19/2010 *cn updated 01/27/11*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated when dispensing fuel into the fuel tank, the fuel would spray out of the filler neck after the automatic shut off engaged. the intermittent failure progressed over time which resulted in a continuous occurrence when refueling. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. the vin was unavailable.
I have a 2006 dodge durango that i purchased in march, 2010. the last 4 times i have filled my vehicle up with gas, when i stop, a huge amount of gas comes shooting back out of the vehicle soaking me, my clothes, my vehicle and pouring onto the ground. the last time i even attempted to begin putting gas into the vehile, it shot out on me, vehicle and ground. it did this 3 times while i was trying to put gas in my vehicle. i am very concerned for my personal safety. what can be done to correct this at no cost?
My 2006 dodge durango just turned 50,000 miles and all of a sudden every time i fill up on gas the gasoline shoots back out at me. it soaks me, the car, the outside of my car and the ground. this is a fire hazard and a waste of money. i have contacted dodge and this car is not in a recall. i understand 2005 models were recalled for same exact problem. this is very worrisome and very scary. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated after refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed out of the filler neck. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred several times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that when the vehicle was being fueled, it would spill out of the tank when full. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel tank and filler neck assembly was defective. the contact was told that the vehicle was not included in recall 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly). the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 37,000 and the current mileage was approximately 38,000.
2006 dodge durango gas tank overfills every time. lots of gas spills out. very dangerous. *tr
On four separate occasions, i filled my gas tank and gas came shooting out of the tank once the shutoff valve clicked off. it sprayed all over my clothes, down the side of the car and onto the concrete. at first i thought it was a faulty gas pump, but it happened at four different gas stations. i learned later that i would have to replace the fuel assembly at my own cost. i know i don't feel safe filling up my gas tank knowing i might get covered with gas and possibly be near an ignition source. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling, fuel would begin to spill out from the fuel filler neck. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was refueled to capacity. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure yet the fuel tank was replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 60,950. updated 06/20/11
When filling up my 06 durango it always overflows when trying to fill the tank. it happens all the time and at different stations. the tank will fill up and the pump will cut off and then there is a back flow and gas pours out all over the car and the ground. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact was adding fuel to the vehicle when the failure occurred. when the gas tank was full the gas pump clicked and the fuel sprayed out of the fuel tank. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or a mechanic to be repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 48,500. updated 01/14/11*lj
2006 durango fuel tank spews gas instead of shutting pump handle off. this happens anytime we fill vehicle. we must manually turn off pump before we believe gas tank is full to keep from being covered with gas. *tr
I have a dodge durango 06, lately almost everytime i'm filling up gas, the gasoline overflows from the tank and spills out. i see that durango 05 had being recall already for the exactly same problem to prevent possible fire. i check internet and there are many complaints from durango owners with the same issue of spill gasoline when refueling. a called dodge and they said that without recall the cannot do anything. *tr
While fueling the car at the gas station, the pump shuts off and a second or two later, about a half a gallon of gas sprays out. this problem keeps getting worse. i've tried to fill it up on the lowest setting and i've tried pulling the nozzle out of the tank some so the (harmful) vapors can escape. it is happening about 90% of the time and this is not a safe thing to have gas coming flying back out and getting over the ground, myself and others around me. this is a real safety hazard. i have found there is a lot of issues with the 2005 models and now the 2006's are having the same problem. apparently the problem is still not fixed. this problem is way out of control. i will be posting my youtube video along with the hundreds of others to show how unsafe this issue is and how it is being handled by the manufacturer and safety organizations involved. hopefully this issue gets resolved before a real injury is realized. *js
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact noticed that when attempting to fuel her vehicle, the gasoline would spill back out. the failure was similar to recall 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they performed a diagnostic test which concluded that the fuel tank assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer agreed to cover 50% of the repair cost; however, the vehicle had not been repaired. the current mileage was 106,000 and the failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was unavailable.
Gas over flowing at the fuel pump when filling up. the pump wouldn't automatically stop till after it was over flowing. gas spilled on the paint and hands, cloths if your standing there and on the ground cause a possible fire hazard. took to dealer said it was the gas tank. they replaced it and no more problems. i don't have the old gas tank.$750.00 for the repair. *tr
Dodge durango 2006: fuel filler neck problem. when filling the car, fuel can spurt out of the filler neck including spraying on the person filling the tank. dodge has the identical problem on 2005 cars and issued a recall to replace filler neck and gas tank, but no such recall on other year cars. *tr
When filling the gas tank on our 2006 dodge durango, once the tank is full, gas will shoot out of the tank for a couple seconds unless the pump is manually stopped prior to filling the tank. this happens on almost every fill up. *tr
When filling up my 06 durango it always overflows when trying to fill the tank. the automatic shutoff on the gas pump will shut off then seconds later gas shoots out the fill tube. this is very unsafe and could cause explosion and hurt many, many people. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while adding fuel it began to spill out of the fuel tank. the failure recurred whenever he added fuel to the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed that they needed to replace the fuel tank. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to occur. the failure mileage was 47,000 and the current mileage was 52,000.
The fuel spits out when refueling. the auto shut off does not stop the refueling until the fuel has already begun to spit out of my 2006 dodge durango. *tr
I own a 2006 dodge durango that i purchased new. after reaching 60,000 miles, the fuel system began overfilling and spilling out on the ground. at first it was only occasionally but now it does it every time i refuel. when the pump shuts off, a strong burst of gasoline sprays out of the tank. i have read online that many other people have this same problem. there should be a recall on this defective fuel system.
Beginning about a year and a half ago, my 2006 dodge durango slt began spewing gasoline everytime i filled my car at the gas station. it continues to do this since that time and even though dodge has issued a technical service bulletin for this problem, since my car's vin is not listed as eligible for the extended warranty and repair i am out of luck. i filed an appeal with dodge and it seems the criteria for whether or not the repair will be covered is based on whether i am a good dodge customer. questions such as did i use the dealership for maintenance, did i own other dodge cars, etc. i think that since this is a known problem, that dodge should stand behind its cars and make the repair. this attitude guarantees that i will not be a dodge customer in the future. *js
References recall nhtsa campaign number 09v003000 for 2005 dodge durango fuel system. my 2006 dodge durango has the same defect as listed in the 2005 recall. a local dodge dealer has inspected and confirmed the defected fuel system gasoline and storage tank assembly in my durango. dodge will not cover the total cost of this safety repair since there is not a recall on the 2006 and dodge told me to file a complaint with the nhtsa. i am urging the nhtsa to re-elevate the 300+ complaints and extend the recall to the 2006 durango and others. my 2006 durango fuel system defect began in june 2010 with the most recent hazardous incident occurring in december 2010. the shut off seems to have declined to the point that the gas now sprays out of the tank. this is a very serious and dangerous safety matter. i became covered in gasoline as the gas sprayed like a hose out onto my coat and hair. my hair later touched my eye and my eye was stinging from where the gas must have touched my contact lens. my daughter was with me at the time and we both had to smell the potent fumes from the gas on my clothes. i had to throw my fleece coat in the trash. i am fortunate i did not come in contact with a spark or it would have caught my clothes on fire. the potential hazard of cold weather and static electricity is a reality with gasoline. i am alarmed that dodge would not submit a recall on the affected vehicles after 2005. this is a safety matter that dodge needs to address. i cannot fill my durango gas tank to the full mark without the eruption of gas coming from the tank. it started out as a spillage but now it spills and sprays out. other owners should be warned so that a fire, serious injury or death does not occur.
2006 dodge durango - every time i fill up the gas tank to full, after it kicks off, gas spews out of the tank and goes all over the place. it sprays all over the side of the car and on to whoever is filling up the tank. this is very unsafe as gas has sprayed on to my face and mouth. i have seen dodge has had this problem with earlier years and has rectified the problem, but they won't acknowledge for 2006 models. i have to slowly fill up the tank and try to quit before it reaches full to avoid the gas spraying on me. this is ongoing and not just a single incidence. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge durango that every time i fill up at the gas station, when the tank gets full, the nozzle clicks and a rush of gas spills out. the dodge dealer says it's not covered under a recall covering the same problem on other vehicles. i see there is a recall for 2005 durango's but not 2006's. i have investigated this complaint on the internet and find many 2006 durango owners having the same problem. i am seriously concerned that there will be an explosion due to the amount of gas spraying out. the dealer indicated that they were "unable to duplicate" the problem, but it happens at every time i fill up at every gas station that i have been using. *tr
Purchased a used 2006 dodge durango on june 9, 2010. mileage was 50633. for the past 3 months during every fill-up, at various gas stations, fuel pump nozzle will click off when tank is full and then a few seconds later gasoline will forcibly flow from the tank spilling about a quart of fuel on the side of vehicle and on the cement. the only thing we have done to correct the failure is to partially fill the gas tank. *tr
2006 dodge durango spews gas from filler tube whenever we fill it. dealer diagnosed problem as a flap valve in gas tank, and said the tank should be replaced (approx. $600). at her suggestion we reported problem to dodge. they talked directly to service manager and authorized the repair, minus a $100 deductible. vehicle was out of warranty, and we had no extended warranty. dealer said this was a known problem that they had seen several times previously, and that dodge handles it on a case-by-case basis. given the nightmares reported by other 2006 durango owners with the same problem, we paid the $100 and got a new tank installed. the new tank (and flap valve) resolved the problem. we still believe that dodge should have covered the entire repair because of the number of previous complaints and the severity of the safety issue, but a $100 loss is better than a $600 loss for our family. i sincerely hope that dodge will issue a recall for 2006 and later durangos before there is a very serious accident or fire. *tr
When filling up my 06 durango it always overflows when trying to fill the tank. it happens all the time and at different stations. the tank will fill up and the pump will cut off and then there is a back flow and gas pours out all over the car and the ground. a lot comes out and is dangerous. *tr
2006 dodge durango. consistently, upon finishing filling the fuel tank, up to a quart of fuel will spill out of the fuel filler neck. this poses a potential fire hazard. the issue appears to be similar to the supposedly corrected issue affecting certain 2005 durangos. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel spilled from the fuel tank during refueling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.
After completing refueling, gas will flow out of the nozzle under pressure (about one or two cups) and spill on the car and concrete. this occurs about 1/2 times. *tr
Gas spills out of gas tank when filling up tank. known incident and recall issued on other years. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge durango and gas overflows and sprays out of the filler neck when tank is filled. several times i have had fuel sprayed on me when fueling. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while adding fuel to the vehicle, the fuel pump indicator informed the contact that the fuel tank was full. fuel began spraying out of the vehicle onto the contact and the ground. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
Just purchased a 2006 durango and filled with gas. gas sprayed all over the vehicle and ground. online postings shows this to be common but that only 2005 models were recalled, though the exact same problem. as a vehicle owner with a young family this concerns me. as an insurance investigator this disturbs me. i will be taking to a dealer in the next week or two in sioux falls, sd. can anyone advise me of what i should say, since i anticipate they will not do anything given it's not part of the recall--it being an 06 and not an 05? as an investigator myself, i'd like to know if i can assist in gathering more information on this safety/environmental issue? thank you. *tr
