Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Dodge Durango

As i was refueling i noticed in the pump that it was at 29 gallons but it was still filling up and my tank wasn't empty so right away i knew something was wrong and looked on the bottom that it was spilling all the gas i'm thinking from the inside of the filler neck or hose but from under the car so something is wrong because it didn't stop filling up, thx *tr

Problem when refilling the gas tank. when the tank gets full, fuel sprays out of the gas tank fill port. at first i thought it was faulty equipment at the gas station but it has happened consecutive times at different gas stations. probably sprays out 8 or 12 ounces. *tr

The shut off valve has not worked correctly for over the past year. when filling the gas tank gas is spit back on the car and driveway service. this happens even if i pause for a period during filling the tank to let pressure release. my dealer says they have never heard of this, had to believe with so many complaints all over the internet. i would like dodge to step up and take care of the problem. help....... *tr

When fueling fuel spits back out fuel fill after fill nozzle shuts off. spilling down the side and on the ground. *tr

When i filled my car with gas it the pump kicked off but fuel came spilling out from the tank. the fuel spilled over me, the car and the ground. at first i thought it was a one time thing but it has happened numerous times, even when i have not filled the tank completely. this has now caused serious rust around my tank and through the corner panel. it has now rusted through completely. i am afraid of the safety of the tank and filling the tank with gas. not to mention the cost of lost gas. *tr

When filling the fuel tank , if the fuel nozzle is allowed to auto shut off the tank will spew pressurized fuel back out of te filler neck all over the pump, ground and vehicle. *tr

I bought my 2006 dodge durango used with 119,000 miles in november 2013. every time i fill up, the gas overflows. i always fill-up when stopping for gas because i drive an hour, one way, into town and have to get gas often. regardless of how i pump gas it always overflows. i have tried pumping fast, pumping slow, and putting the nozzle all the way in. i have a two year daughter and i am concerned this overflow may ignite a fire. *tr

Fuel over flows out of the filler tube every time i fill the tank. *tr

Fuel spills out when filling the tank. *tr

When fueling the vehicle the gas pump clicks off then fuel spews out the filler neck of the vehicle this has caused the paint to come off and a hole to rust in the side of the vehicle just under the fuel cap. *tr

Due to the faulty fuel check valve my vehicle has a line of rust straight down from the gas cap. dodge repaired the check valve but will not cover any body work due to the mileage/date when the recall repair was performed. with dodge being at fault for faulty equipment they should also cover the damage caused to my vehicle from the equipment. i have contacted dodge on multiple occasions but have been turned down for a resolution. please help! *tr

While filling the gas tank, the pump shuts off, then fuel pours out of the filler. this happens at any gas station, and almost every time we fill up the tank. this an an extreme hazard and a very costly inconvenience. every time we fill up, gas is wasted, the car becomes a dangerous and horribly smelling hazard. dodge recalled the 2005 durango for the same issue, but has yet to do the same for the following model year! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that after refueling, fuel spewed out of the filler neck. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel tank was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 135,000 and the current mileage was 135,931. updated 3/19/13 *cn the consumer received a letter from the manufacturer stated the affected parts had an extended lifetime warranty. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer where the filler neck was replaced.

When filling my vehicle at the gas station, the gas will overflow or spit out of the tank instead of stopping normally when the tank nears full level. this happens no matter how slowly i am refueling. there is already a recall for this exact issue on the 05 models but there still is not one for the 06 even though there are several complaints just like this. this is a very dangerous fire hazard that needs to be dealt with before something terrible happens. *tr

When trying to put fuel to fill up the car gas explodes out of tank. this happens any time when trying to put gas in the vehicle, it's probably at least a half gallon each and every time, it gets all over me the vehicle the ground. it's to the point were i can't even fill up, fuel shouldn't come out when filling a vehicle up and with the summer months upon us this is a great hazard. i would figure this is a major fire hazard and would need to be fixed, 2005 dodge durangos were recalled for the exact same thing, but i haven't seen anything for the 2006 dodge durangos. *tr

When filling fuel tank, when tank is full, gas will spill out filler neck. the spilled gas splashes everywhere, and has been on the body below the filler neck enough times that it has caused the paint to lift, and a rust hole to form in the fender. no other rust on vehicle. *tr

I have two issues with my durango. during fueling the pump does not shut off causing an overflow of gas on the ground, on my shoes, etc. this is an ongoing issue that has been happening since we purchased the vehicle. my mechanic thinks it is a sensor issue but dodge has not recalled the vehicle to fix it. the second issue is i can take my key out of the ignition while the engine and ignition are in the run position, lock the car and take the key with me and the engine will run like the key is in the ignition. *tr

Vehicle was purchased used in april of 2012 and the fuel overflow was noticed immediately upon purchase. seller informed that it was a national problem with all durango vehicles and there was no fix. in the meantime, the fuel overflows at each refill and has caused me to immediately wash down the area (while fueling) to prevent fire and additional corrosion. *tr

When filling up the gas tank the tank overflows spraying gas all over. *tr

On multiple occasions, at multiple different gas stations and pumps, the fuel tank overflow fails to shut off before gas spills or sprays out of the tank. *tr

Fuel shut off valve in the vehicle is malfunctioned. bought used a few weeks ago and have filled up 3 times now, and every time, the pump is not activated to shut of and fuel flies out o the gas tank, getting all over the vehicle, the gas pump, and sometimes the person pumping the gas. huge safety hazard!! *tr

When filling fuel tank completely, fuel spits back out at the owner and down the quarter panel, every time. we purchased this vehicle used one month ago. we've tried different gas pumps at different gas stations owned by different companies. i feel this vehicle should be covered under the recall that covers earlier durangos. i rather lick a fat clown's [xxx] than buy another chrysler product. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *js

Gasoline sprays back onto person filling the tank after the pump kicks off. safety issue just purchased as a used vehicle from the dodge dealership in pulaski , wi s&l motors 2298 hwy 32 pulaski,wi 54162 *js

There have been 2 recalls to date on the model year 2005 durango, 44,951 all together. with my 2006 dodge durango, fuel sprays out of the fill tube because of a check valve that has already been recalled two different times. no warnings, no letters to the owners of the durango now to advise them to use caution. please open an investigation now and have this serious safety issue corrected for all of the durango owners on the road today. this is a serious safety concnern. the problem has already been identified in earlier models, and there seems to be significant issues with the 2006 models as well.

While fueling the car at the gas station i keep continuing to have back-flow of gas when filling up. it is happening every-time and i think this is not a safe thing to have gas coming flying back out and getting over the ground. this is a real safety hazard. i have found there is a lot of issues with the 2005 models and now the 2006's are having the same problem. the inquiry is rq08005 and the recall is 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline storage tank assembly filler pipe and cap). we need to pressure them to fix this issue for all the durango's. *tr

When fueling vehicle, a large amount of gas overflowed filler tube after pump shutoff. gas sprayed approximately 3 feet, covering fueler and pump. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, fuel spilled from the fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 65,300.

When i go to the gas station to put gas in i can only put a 1.50 in and the pump kick off and gas come out i wait for a little bite and it will take 2.00 and tit does the same thing again it come right back out. *tr

You can not fill the gas tank over 3/4 full as it will result in a massive fuel spillage out of the filler neck. the backwash out of the tank will cover you and the side of the car and you with fuel. it does not matter what kind of fuel station is filling it happens every time. if there was any kind of spark a large fire would occur. *tr

Vehicle spots has everywhere when putting gas in. can not put over 3/4 tank in or a least a gallon is coming back on your feet & ground. the paint is also rusting under the gas cap now due to this issue. i have noticed that this is an issue with this model year and there are numerous online complaints. the 2005. was recalled due to the same issue. this year also should be recalled and fixed! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that when she attempted tore fuel the vehicle, the pump would shut off and gas would spew back out onto from the filler neck valve. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) but did not confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. the current mileage was 69,000 and the failure mileage was 68,000.

We purchased this vehicle from a used car dealership 12-31-2111 after driving it to the gas station to fill it up i encountered a problem . the fuel pump shut off when the durango was full but immediately after the gas came spraying out of the tank but the pump was off . it sprayed gas all over side of the vehicle and all over me and my clothes it was awful. this has happened 3 times so far and we have owned the vehicle for 3 weeks. after researching online we discovered there is a problem with the tank that crysler/dodge knows about it but there is no recall yet for this year of the durango

Fuel tank overflows during fill up. spilling tons of gas. because of the overflow there is a lot of rust forming on body were gas tank is. i have taken it to body shop to see about getting the rust fixed but said would have to replace that whole area because rust ate through. to be honest i thought i was doing something wrong when filling up at the gas station or something was wrong with the pump for a long time until i started researching on internet. i just spoke to dodge dealer and they told me that this is a new problem that dodge just extended the warrenty on so we can get the fuel part fixed. my problem is that we almost have this paid for and would like to keep for a few more years, has low miles, but the rust around gas tank is bad. i think there should be some help from dodge on getting this fixed since it was their fault. *tr

Was filling up 06 dodge durango and fuel will flow out violently after the fuel nozzle shut off was activated. there was about quart or more fuel splashed out of the fuel nozzle of the car. there is even a rust spot on the driver side rear quarter panel under the fuel nozzle on the car where fuel has eating at the metal. this is a very dangerous situation and can be deadly. this should be taken seriously. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel would spill out from the filler neck while refueling. the dealer informed the contact that the check valve failed and advised him to replace the fuel tank. the manufacturer did not offer any assistance since the vin was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). no repairs were performed. the failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.

There is a known issue of fuel overflow with 2nd generation dodge durango that dodge refuses to issue a safety recall to fix. at the conclusion of refueling approximately 0.25 gal will gurgle to forcefully eject itself from the fuel filler neck of the durango. spilling fuel every fill up is a personal safety and environmental pollution concern which needs to be addressed. http://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-durango/190747-gas-fill-overflow-on-my-06-durango-21.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&gl=us&biw=480&bih=268&tbm=vid&q=durango+overflow&oq=durango+over&aq=1p&aqi=s2g-m2&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=6082l11536l0l13683l16l14l1l0l0l1l555l2621l2-2.2.2.1l7l0. *tr

My 2006 dodge durango slt over fills every time it is filled up. gas will shoot out 12-15 inches in all directions sometimes. this started happening at around 60 thousand miles. *tr

Went to fill durango up two days after purchased used. the pump shut off automatically and sprayed approx. one liter of gas on my hand, sleeve, right leg, right shoe, and the fender/bumper of the vehicle. this is a serious safety concern and there is no warning from dodge that this may occur. this was a recall on 2005's and dodge representatives told me when i asked about an assist, "if it was a recall before and isn't now, the issues would have been addressed on the assembly line". this statement, from my case manager, is clearly not true. there are several videos on youtube.com of this happening to vehicles with vin numbers that are post recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling, gasoline began spewing from the filler neck and the fuel pump would not shut off. the contact stated that the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle. the failure mileage was 62,000. updated 3/20/13 *cn the consumer stated within two seconds of the automatic shut off of the fuel nozzle, gas spewed back out of the filler opening with the nozzle still inserted.

Filling up with gas the nozzle clicks and a few seconds later gas will shoot out of the tank. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel would spill out from the filler neck whenever the vehicle was refueled to capacity. the failure had not been diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was made aware of the constant failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000. updated 03/05/12*lj the consumer stated a recall was issued for the 2005 models, but did not issue a recall for the 2006-2008 models which have the same problem. updated 03/07/12

When the gas tank reaches full or nearly full the fuel "burps" out spilling a significant amount of fuel to the side of the vehicle and on the ground. this is nearly 100% of the time. this may be caused by the fuel tank inlet check valve not closing properly this creates a risk of fire and is likely the same issue as the 2005 durango that has a recall for this reason. *jb

When filling up with gasoline, upon the fuel pump turning off, the durango's fuel tank will spray gasoline back out to the individual filling up, and leak fuel all over the vehicle and ground. this happens every time i fill up, regardless of filling station. this is documented in countless forums and videos online. the 2005 durango has a recall for this as dodge recognized the risk of a vehicle or fuel station fire. this is dangerous, easily repeatable, and terrible for the environment. and worse yet, dodge even appears to be aware of the situation. this should be fixed by dodge. *tr

Fuel overspill when gas station pump reaches auto shut-off. after fuel tank replaced, gas station pump cuts out every gallon to gallon & a half when attempting to fill tank. *tr

During fueling operations the vehicles fuel tank was almost full which triggered the fuel pump to shut off, and then immediately fuel began rushing out of the fueling nozzle of the vehicle getting on the side of the vehicle, my hand, foot and the ground. this has happened more than 60 times since owning the vehicle in 2006, and now happens every time i fill the tank to full. there was a similar problem with the 2005 durango that justified a recall, and the same problem exists with the 2006, although there has been no recall. i hope that it doesn't take a major incident, fire or death before chrysler takes this seriously and does the right tyhing by repairing the bad valve in these tanks. *tr

I have a 5.7 hemi and the problem just started with fuel splashing out after a fill up, pump clicks off, remove the fuel nozzle and out of the vehicle fuel fill gas shoots out and all over. maybe a pint or quart of gas, hard to measure when it's all over you, the ground and car..... i also called my dodge dealer and my vin was not part of the recall. *kb

I have filled up my vehicle on multiple occasions since i have purchased this vehicle used. every time i fill it up the gas tank bubbles and is shoots a decent amount of gas out of the tank onto the ground and down the side of my car. this causes my car to smell like gasoline and leaves a puddle of approx 1 cup of gas on the ground. at first i thought it was a particular gas stations nozzle, but after going to multiple different stations, i have encountered the same problem. i have not contacted dodge about this problem, but i will be soon. i know there currently is no recall for this, but there should be, this is an extreme safety hazard to have gas flying out of the gas tank. *tr

Bought 2006 dodge durango used and pulled out of dealership to get gas and filled up and gas shot everywhere. very dangerous and fire hazard. problem filling ever time i get gas. a problem that needs immediate attention before someone gets hurt. *tr

When filling gas tank after nozzle clicks off within second a gush of fuel shoots out of tank. we are only owner of vehicle and this has happened for years. we had fuel tank replaced once and it continues to happen and is getting really bad again. today so much fuel shot out that if someone was standing there it would of soaked them. it was so obvious and so much that the other people at the station saw it and were in disbelief. this is getting to be real dangerous. *tr

When filling the vehicle up with gas, the sensor to stop the gas pump does not work. result is an overflow of about .5 gallon of gas to spill on the exterior of the vehical and ground below.
