We have classified the 67 complaints from 2006 Dodge Durango about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
We have a 2006 dodge durango. when you turn the key to the on position the vehicle would start by itself without going to the start position. this happens every time you do this. the dealership replace the ignition switch which cost us $300. *tr
We have a 2006 dodge durango and we have several issues with it. the instrument cluster stopped working along with the radio, a/c, wipers, windows and everything in the interior. the instrument cluster was fixed during a recall. we called chrysler and they told us that it was fixed once for the recall and they would not replace it again. the dealership want to replace the cluster again to fix the issue, but i'm concerned about it happening again while my wife and children are on the road again with no lights!!!! *tr
I have 06 dodge durango, wiper come one and off ,head lights blink on and off, there was a recall in a part in dash so i took it to dealer to repair and to also fix light and wipers and they said maybe recall part fixed everything, well it didn't so i brought it back and they cant find problem, now lights still blink wipers still come on and off and heater and air doesn't blow now they said im not under warranty for the part that it needs ,so they want to charge me 430.00 for a 10.00 part so i bought it myself and put it on and it still doesn't work .i have ex. warranty and was told if the lights got worse to bring it back in well i did and they said they cant help me,well i fill like im just getting a run around and my durango is a recall itself. *tr
Turn signal switch malfunctions when it is cold and wet out. will indicate right turn when turning left and vise versa, high beam also malfunctions and will sometimes turn on washer fluid, wiper function also not working right when others fail. seems to be when it is wet and below freezing temperatures. similar complaints all over internet. *tr
We own a 2006 dodge durango and over the summer while driving my radio started and stopped working, my navigation system starting blinking, and then finally my car stopped working altogether. we found both of the relays to the electrical system on our durango full of water but when i called the dealership they denied ever hearing of this issue and started that there was no warranty. we shook out the relays, left them unplugged overnight, and used a hair dryer to dry any remaining moisture. as long as i keep my vehicle parked in the garage and unplug the relay after we wash the car we don't have any problems. however, the air bag light was the only warning light that we could not get to go out. over the weekend i heard on headline news that the 2008 dodge caravans are being recalled for moisture getting into the airbags. i called and explained my issue with our 2006 dodge durango and they told me that it was not under recall. interesting to note is that the dealership inquires about the mileage on your vehicle. i was told by their representative that low mileage vehicles can have a chance at "goodwill" repairs but not high mileage vehicles. i'm not sure if 75,000 miles is considered low or high but what is at issue is that dodge knows that there is an issue but they are not correcting it on all of the defective vehicles only on their 2008s. *tr
It all started when i took my 2006 dodge durango in to change a fuse. ( was under warranty). about 1 month later the following started. headlights flash on & off while driving day or night, turn signal will go on & off, dome lights will go on& off, wipers with wash will go on & off, & the radio will change channels. this happens all the time day or night no matter the temps. lately seems like the heat & cool air don't blow for the floor. it was at the shop numerous times & no answers. i did contact dodge itself & now they may have a fix for $500 for me but not totally sure that will fix the problem. *tr
2006 dodge durango has had multiple engine & electrical problems within 6 month period. first car lost all power while driving at 35 mph, took all strength to get car to shoulder of the road w/o power steering & locked steering column. local mechanic said that computer was fried & covered under emissions warranty. towed to dodge dealership who said there was not a computer problem, just cam shaft needed replacing & recall on instrument panel cluster. after $450 repair for cam shaft & tow, a week later car started having electrical problems. aprox every other time i would start car, the radio & electrical display (clock) on radio would not work--appeared to not get power. six weeks later, check engine light came on again. by this time, original dodge dealership had been closed, so went to another dodge dealer for service. they found another wiring problem with engine. could not identify problem with audio/clock. check engine light went on about 2 months later. this time local mechanic advised it was a fuel pump problem. replaced fuel pump, checked fuse & still could not identify problem with audio/display. 9 days later went to start car in the am, and electrical seemed to sputter (lights, instrument pane, wipers, radio) but car would not start. starter does not appear to be engaging the engine at all. diagnosed as started motor problem, starter motor replaced, but car still not fixed. then told battery terminals & cables needed to be replaced. car now starts, but audio/display issue still unresolved. concern that there is a larger problem with the electrical system of this vehicle, which is the root cause of all recent problems. getting scared to drive this car on interstate or in any level of traffic for fear that it will stall out or lose power during operation again. the car only has 42,000 miles on it. first problem started with 37,000 miles on vehicle. i hate this car!!!!! *tr
Have had instrument cluster replaced, after having recall for interior lighting performed the auto feature of power door unlock ceased to work. that was about 3 years ago. now the auto unlock and lock feature have both quit working once again. will not reprogram with procedure in owners manual. feel the instrument cluster will need replacing again. i do have extended factory warranty to 70k miles, but am concerned if this keeps happening, what action do i take? *tr

When my fuel tank is empty and i refill the tank, after the pump clicks off gas pours out of the tank. this has been happening for about 7 weeks. also sometimes when starting the vehicle it doesn't start but continues to turn itself over and over even after the key is shut off. this happens sporadically and dodge refuses to fix either one although the vehicle is still under warranty, because it cannot be duplicated at the shop. *tr
My 2006 dodge durango caught on fire four weeks ago while my girlfriend was driving it. the truck had only been running a total of tens. it appeared to have started on the driver side of the truck. once i discovered the recall on the truck for the instrument panel overheating, i contacted chrysler, and they sent a local contracted inspector out to take picture. then a week later they sent me a letter stating that they were not at fault, and there was nothing they could do for me. *tr
Hi, my name is [xxx] , and i need some help. january 9th 2007 i purchased a 2006 dodge durango from buddy jones ford in greenwood mississippi. on may 31st 2008, the truck burn to the ground. this occurred while my girlfriend was driving it; she barely made it out of the truck in time. needless to say i was at a lost of understanding how this could have happen. so i immediately started surf the internet to find information about this brand of vehicle. i discovered that this particular suv had an instrument panel cluster that would overheat and sometimes ignite into flames. i also discovered that there were many other consumers that had experienced they're dodge durango's burning to ground, while just sitting in the garage. so i then contacted chrysler to plead my case. at this time they told me about the recall, and that my vehicle was one of the vehicles in question. then they agreed to send a local contracted inspector to check out my vehicle. the conclusion of his inspection was that the truck burned through no fault of chrysler's do not have the resources to prove them wrong, or have it inspected myself. my insurance had lapsed at that time, and i know that is my responsibility. but now i am stuck with a truck that is not usable, and the company that financed it is looking for they're monthly payment. with i can not afford because i had to purchase another vehicle to get back and forward to work. so i have done a volunteer repossession and they will pick the truck up soon. once they get it i still will be forced to pay for it through garnishment, which i can't afford. in the other cases in which this same truck burned to the ground, chrysler determined that it was not they're fault even with such a recall on them. vehicles do not just burn up for no reason, so please help deal with chrysler. also, i did not receive a recall notice until june 16, 2008. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Purchased 2006 dodge durango june, 2007 august, 2007-vehicle started violently jerking -engine light came on-was told it was the cam sensor. instrument cluster also defective and replaced. electrical problem, causing door locks to malfunction replaced. december 6, 2007, car jerking again-engine light came on - drove it to the dealership - was told it was the transmission- front pump and torque converter replaced. december 18, 2007 mileage not reading accurately-told that the instrument cluster that was installed in august was ?faulty?. replaced again. january 2, 2008, vehicle violently jerking again- dying in the road, if over 40mph. engine light on-dealer replaced the cam sensor. -very hesitant that my car was become a threat. february 22, 2008, vehicle jerking, then died on the road at 45mph -able to start it, drove to the dealer-was told it was the pcm. pcm replaced -cam sensor also. complained to chrysler, trying to get answers for this ?lemon?. was told this time that they were 100% they fixed the problem. dealer gave me written ?good will? extended warranty on my vehicle for 5,000 extra miles. april 15, 2008. traveling 45mph- car started violently jerking again and died in the middle of the highway. power steering gone- struggled to veer of and slow down, losing control. this time, a bus was behind me and swerved, laid on the horn and avoided hitting me. was able to make it to the shoulder of the road-called the dealership. towed my car. have had enough of this vehicle -will not put my family in danger one more time!!!! . need to be free and clear of all financial responsibility of this car. dealer now tells me that they are ?hard-wiring? the pcm directly to the cam sensor. they told me that there is a ?glitch? within the wiring that they will simply bypass by putting in a direct connection, thus manipulating original wiring codes.. i will not put myself and 3 children in this situation again, and refuse to pick up my vehicle! *tr
Just left my home not driving more than 30 mph when the engine light came on and i lost complete power. was towed to the dealer where i purchased it and they did a "pcm reflash with an instrument panel software update" they also replaced the cluster. now 2 and half months later, i haved moved out of state and once again just leaving my house not going above 30 mph and the same thing happens again. engine light comes on and i lose power, i was barely able to turn the wheel enough to get the vehicle on the side of the road. i was able to start the car again within a couple minutes and safely return home (it was dark), however the engine light was still on and it felt as though it would loose power again, like i was driving with the parking brake on. also on my drive here from california (to indiana) i lost my cruise control. this second incident happend tonight and will have to be towed to dodge dealer tomorrow. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact took her vehicle to be repaired under recall # 9378792861. after the repair was performed, the contact stated that the vehicle began to stall. the dealer has had the vehicle since june 21, 2007 and has been unable to determine the cause of failure. the dealer performed a diagnostic, which caused them to place 50 miles per day on the vehicle in an attempt to locate the cause of failure. the dealer even asked if one of the technicians could take the vehicle home. the recall number that was provided could not be located. the current and failure mileages were 7,000.
2006 dodge durango, 6,000 miles on vehicle. vehicle has had rust covering the power steering pump for about 4 months. dealer (mcbrayer chrysler, aberdeen n.c.) notified of problem at 3,000 miles. service manager made a note of problem and stated that he would change pump but he didn"t have part in stock. contacted same dealer at 6,000 miles for recall on electrical and inquired about also changing power steering pump when doing recall repair. dealer stated that the rusted power steering pump would not be covered by warranty. *tr
During times of low temperatures (below 40 degrees) the following occurs intermittently. the radio controls on the steering wheel do not work properly, the radio volume spontaneously goes down, the headlights and dash lights flash off and on, the windshield wipers will come on, the indicator lights for the airbag indicate the airbag is not activated. i am sure there are more glitches; however these are the ones that stand out. this morning, however, the cruise control would not stop accelerating the vehicle. the outside temperature is approximately 22 degrees. i set the cruise for 75, when i reviewed the speed, the vehicle had accelerated to 95 and the cruise would not shut off either by the cruise control controls or by braking. in fact the brakes had difficulty slowing the vehicle down to 75 and when released the vehicle would again accelerate. when placed into neutral, the vehicle continued revving and when placed in drive it again accelerated. when i was finally able to slow the vehicle by placing it in neutral and continue to push hard on the brakes, i maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. it then would not re-start. the ignition wouldn't turn over for approximately 5 minutes. once restarted the vehicle appears to be working fine. i reported this to the dealer this morning. they were already aware of the previous irregularities and advised they would be talking to the support center today. they have already replaced the clock spring in the vehicle and that did not correct the problem. they have advised that they are aware there is a problem but they do not know how to fix it.*jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph, upon turning either direction, the steering wheel locked and the engine stalled. additionally, the engine and air bag lights illuminated. the vehicle was restarted immediately. this occurred intermittently. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who could not diagnose the problem. updated 12/01/06. *jb
Air conditioning not cooling properly. tested vent temperatures in identical conditions using an infrared temperature probe and a normal analog temperature probe. used 1997 mercury mountaineer in test with my new 2006 dodge durango. tested initial left center vent temp and the temp after 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 minutes using the dash vents only and max cool and max fan. the nine year old mountaineer vent temp was 9 or 10 degrees cooler after 5 minutes. the older vehicle cooled faster and provided colder air temps. this testing was done after noticing the durango wasn't cooling as well as my old mountaineer. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. since the vehicle was purchased, it has stalled a dozen times. the vehicle has stalled while traveling 40 mph on a major highway as well as local streets. the contact stated that the vehicle is now in the shop. the dealer has replaced the part several times, but the failure persists. the contact is referring to nhsta recall # 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel). the current mileage is 7,100 and failure mileage was 1,340.
Tl*the contact owned a 2006 dodge durango. the contact awoke to the smell of smoke, looked out her window, and noticed her entire garage in flames. the fire spread throughout the entire three story home and killed the family cat. three vehicles were also destroyed: a 2006 durango, 1996 grand am, and a 2001 ford taurus. she spoke with dodge to find out if the fire was caused by the durango, but dodge ruled out that possibility. this was an issue raised by investigators. the contact later saw on the news that there was a recall for the durango. on may 30, 2007, she received recall notice # 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel). the # of cylinders was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 6,000. updated 7/9/15*cn updated 9/18/15 *js
Intermittent and spontaneous activation of the windshield wipers and washers during operation of the steering wheel under normal driving conditions. steering wheel sound system controls work erratically or in reverse of normal function. ignition remains engaged until switch is recycled. seems to be low temperature related( happens more often in the cooler am). vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times for repair attempts. clock spring, multifunction switch, individual audio controls, and the front control module have been replaced under warranty by the dealer with out correcting the problem. dealer states that chrysler will not authorize additional diagnosis. i am concerned that this is an electrical short in the steering column that may result in air bag deployment, or a vehicle fire, and injuries to my family. chrysler reps will not address the problem when i have repeatedly attempted to contact them via their hotline at 1-800-992-1997. *nm
