I have a 2005 dodge durango 5.7 we have had multiple issues with the fuel tanks when i go to fill up it spews gas back out at me. i bought this car used about 3 yrs ago contacted dodge and they told me that mine is not a part of the 2 recalls that they have with the exact same issue so it was not a safety concern to them. we had the original tank replaced within a few mths and had to take it back immediately for the exact same issue. after that it worked well for the past 2.5 yrs and now i'm having the exact same issue with the tank again. i bought this needed a big vehicle for my family. i don't think that i should be having to replace tank assemblies every few yrs for an issue that the company knows about. *tr

When filling the gas tank (at any station) the check valve engages too early causing fuel to shoot out of the filler tube. supposedly this was fixed but either a faulty one was installed or the work was never done (previous owner). vehicle was also supposedly not covered under recall based on the vin but matched the manufacture date but not serial number. no one has an answer why it is still doing this?

When i put gas on my car the valve in the fuel thank does not close and leak gasoline to the floor. *js

While fueling the vehicle up, the automatic shut off is activated and then gasoline sprays out of the filler tube. *tr

Fuel sprays out of the filler tube every time the vehicle is filled. the shut-off cannot be relied upon, and the tank cannot be filled fully. contacted dodge 800 number and dealership and was advised my vehicle is not part of the recall, although it displays the same symptoms of the recalled vehicles. *tr

Gas tank on 2005 dodge durango shoots gas out when filling the tank. called the dodge recall center and they said there are no "open" recalls. it seems to me that it the gas tank overflows and is a fire/explosion hazard, they should have to fix the problem. not just say the recall period has ended and be done with it. any advice on how to get this corrected? *tr

My vehicle had the engine light come on (mil), and was inspected for mass state inspection. it failed due to emissions. the engine light indicated a evap leak. the vehicle was brought in to a local service station for the issue, and i was advised the fuel pump needed replacement and that the top was corroded (plastic). the service shop thought it was odd as the vehicle was maintained properly, low mileage, and never saw the plastic just crumble like this. they held onto the original chrysler fuel pump for a while and then discarded it. once repair completed, the vehicle started to buck (pulling). it was brought back to service shop, and no code was available, but was told computer needed to catch up as it was cleared at time of repair due to the battery being disconnected. a week passed vehicle still bucking. brought to dealer, kelly chrysler jeep and they could not duplicate issue and inspected new fuel pump replacement for faulty workmanship and found nothing. drove truck, and still bucking. brought to another local service station, and they replaced two sensors, crank shaft, and egr. bucking stopped, but engine light came back on. inspected again, and states evap leak. local service does not have smoke machine, so truck went to the dealer, kelly chrysler and for recall on inlet valve. upon inspection, top of whole fuel tank corroded as well as the fuel pump again. fire hazard! problems all connected to fuel system. the inlet valve caused the fuel to spill over and under the rear left of the truck causing corrosion to the paint, and the top of the tank and fuel pump. this is the 2nd fuel pump in 2 years??? it took chrysler 8 years to advise me of the recall for the inlet valve and now there is all this ensuing damage as a result besides the fire hazard and the fumes that rose up in the truck body. chrysler should be responsible for the damages! *tr

Fuel filler neck does not shut off, resulting in a backflow of fuel out of the neck when the fuel tank nears full. slowly adding fuel when the fuel tank is near full does not prevent fuel backflow. *tr

Check engine lite came on and the code was large leak loose gas cap so i replaced it and it worked for two weeks and it happened again. since then its been a problem. i see they had a recall on dodge durangos that were made in 3/1/04 to 11/16/04 for filler pipe and cap i purchased my dodge durango on 12/2004 it was made in aug or sept of 2004. they told me it was not on the recall list but i am having the same problems that the dodge recall was having. thank you hope you can help. *tr

Stationary: when refueling, great amount of fuel leaks out with high pressure, soaked me in gasoline causing burns and skin irritation on half of my body, also damaged the fuel panel side of the vehicle. chrysler refuses to recognize an existent recall on vehicles from the same year that evidently have same defects. my vehicle not listed on the recall but defect was found by 2 different dodge mechanics so was supposedly repaired. unfortunately, in my first drive it almost killed me in a zone where vehicles go at 70 mph. in the highway something suddenly snapped loudly, fuel splatter leaking out with pressure, smoke coming out, vehicle started to shake aggressively out of control, then vehicle shuts off while running, twice. the vehicle remain with an asphyxiating fuel odor, fire department and police were at scene, chrysler kept me hours in the phone constantly washing their hands from 2pm until 8pm, call after call and neither chrysler or the dodge dealership provided any solution nor help, we almost died today, this defect almost killed us.

Upon fueling my car, there is always a kick back of fuel that ends up spilling on to the floor of the gas station. according to this site there are a couple recalls for my vehicle year and model that reference a recall about this. i called the chrysler corporation and they told me that my specific vehicle did not qualify. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while he refueled vehicle, the gas overflowed. the failure recurred every time the contact added fuel to vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the inlet check valve in the fuel tank was defective. the failure was related to nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly) however the dealer advised the contact that the vin was not included in the recall. the current mileage was 56,435. the failure mileage was 35,000.

I have owned this vehicle for approximately four years now. it has a persistent and very unsettling problem of stalling for no apparent reason with no corresponding warning lights etc. it just dies and the power steering and brakes fail resulting in significant loss of steering and braking effectiveness. this problem has occurred intermittently with no pattern of origin evident several times over the past few years. on several occasions, it has occurred while pulling out into busy traffic lanes across intersections. i have been able to put it into neutral and immediately restart it to avoid a collision. i have utilized fuel cleaners and changed the spark plugs etc. in a effort to resolve the issue. it happened again today at low speed in a parking lot fortunately..just died without warning. i researched this online and found that this is a common engine problem complaint with the durango. today, this occurred with over 3/4 tank of fresh fuel in the tank. this problem constitutes an immediate safety hazard to owners of these vehicles and i am requesting that nhtsa initiates an investigation into it's cause ( s ) - thank you - related website link re: common problem - http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/2005/engine/stalling_without_warning.shtml . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the fuel tank leaked when attempting to top off the fuel tank. in addition, the vehicle stalled often, would not restart, and the headlights failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to gettle dodge ram and chrysler (2323 tamiami trail, punta gorda, fl 33950, (941) 347-6706), but the cause of the failure could not de determined. however, the dealer replaced an unknown fuse in the engine and the vehicle restarted. the manufacturer was not informed of the failures. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Experiencing same issue as reported in nhtsa recall campaign number 09v003000 - fuel-spit back problems caused by stuck inlet check valves in the fuel tank filler tubes. when filling up the tank the fuel spits out. this issue occurs regularly upon fill up. the fuel spits out onto vehicle, gas station pavement, and clothing. this is an extreme hazard to myself and to my passengers in the vehicle during regular fill ups. i've had to refrain from filling up the vehicle to full capacity to avoid this occurrence. i checked my vin [xxx] for recall information on dodge.com and my vehicle was erroneously not included in this recall. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I am making a complaint that chrysler did not issue a recall based on nhtsa recall campaign number : 09v003000. i have a 2005 dodge durango that has had a defective inlet check valve in the fuel tank that has allowed gas to flow back up the fill line during filling of the tank. i had questioned the local dealership in the passed that there was a recall for this issue in vehicles of the year of my vehicle, but i was told this issue did not pertain to my vehicle since this issue was remedied on vehicles made after 01 october of that year. i told them mine was still having the problems listed. according to the recall number 09v003000, chrysler was supposed to recall the vehicles built up to 11/30 of that year. according to what i have found out today this did not occur, they placed an extended warranty on this issue. so instead of informing dealerships and owners of the issue, they would only fix it if the owners had the issue of the check valve not working properly. well, i have had the issue for almost the whole time i've had my vehicle(11/17/08), and i've brought it up to the local service shop a few times, and i was always told there was no listing of my vehicle requiring the repair to be done. this is quite frustrating because for years i have not been able to fill my gas tank up completely due to fuel coming back up the tube and spraying all over my clothes. once i talked to a representative with chrysler about the issue and the nhtsa number today i was informed about the extended warranty on the part, they said the identifier was (x48). afterwards i contacted the local dealership to set up an appointment to have a diagnosis performed to determine if my vehicle had the problem. the dealership could not find anything relating to x48 extended warranty for my vehicle.

We had our gas tank replaced on our vehicle on 7/24/08 and chrysler then had a recall notice for the fuel inlet valve issue, which was the problem that we were having. we have contacted chrysler about reimbursing us the cost of the gas tank due to the recall and they will not reimburse this money, stating that they have reviewed our case and will not reimburse us. we were not aware of this recall, as we did not receive a notice. we have owned the vehicle since february of 2008. we just became aware of the recall and therefore contacted chrysler about this situation. does the company have to cover this cost due to the recall of the gas tank and if so is there a time limit on the recall? *tr

I purchased a dodge durango in 2007. at the time the car had 24000 miles. around 2009 the car when i filled the tank with gas and removed the pump handle from the durango the gas would overflow all over. so in 2009 i took the car to the dodge dealership in north florida ave. they said that there was no recalls for this car. at this point the car had 29,000 miles. up to this date i still have this problem every time i fill the tank. i have taken this car to the dealership in 2010, 2011, and 2012 for the same problem and they still tell me there is no recall for this problem. so i decided to look online for this problem. there is a lot of 2005 durango with the same problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact was refueling the vehicle when fuel sprayed out of the fuel filler neck. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the mechanic advised that the air ventilation filter failed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the air ventilation filter was not sold separately and that the entire fuel tank would have to be replaced. the vehicle was also included in nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly) and was repaired by the previous owner. the vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango slt. the contact stated that he made a sudden stop and the vehicle stalled. the failure recurred sporadically. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer advised the contact that the failure was related to bad gasoline fuel. the vehicle was later taken to a repair shop where the mechanic advised the contact that there was a flaw in the fuel tank and a baffle that was loose. the baffle blocked the fuel going through the engine causing the vehicle to stall. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue however no assistance was offered. the vin was unavailable. the current mileage was 65,000. the failure mileage was 25,000.

Fuel will spray out when fueling is completed. i had the recall accomplished back in 2006, but this recall did not resolve the issue and my vehicle continues to spray fuel after every fill up. another recall needs to be issued. *tr

I bought my 05 durango back in may of 05 and i've had to deal with all three of the major complaints, the fuel spewing out, the stalling, and the 4x4 activating! the fuel thing i always noticed but always thought it was something that just happened. the 4x4 engaging happened when it still had the power train warranty so i took it to the dealer to get it repaired. the good thing is that they fixed it, the bad thing is that it wasn't covered under the warranty! they told me that they replaced the 4x4 control module and i haven't had a problem since then! i'm not positive if that's the name of the module. this was back in 2008 and i haven't had that problem since then. hopefully that helps some that are dealing with that same issue! the stalling happens here and there, not too often and usually when i'm at a stop sign. i love my durango, just hate the way dodge is just leaving all its customers on their own when there should be recalls for all these issues!! acting like they've never heard of those problems when every owner has the same issues! ill never buy dodge again! and it sucks because im looking into buying a new car, and i like the new durango. but there's no way i'll buy dodge, or chrysler for that matter! *tr

Fuel tank inlet check valve fails causing gas to leak out at conclusion of a fueling when stationary. this has damaged the rear quarter panel over the years. this is the same condition as covered in chrysler recall no. h45, however, they only recalled 18,951 manufactured from oct-nov 2004. this durango (march 2005), as well as many others who have complained, is outside of those dates and yet have the same defect. h45 should be expanded to include all 2005 durango models.
