We have classified the 139 complaints from 2005 Dodge Durango about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
My 2005 durango stalls at low speeds, often while decelerating (turns, parking etc) and is causing a serious safety issue. engine stall causes power failure to steering and brakes and has almost cause accidents. the car starts back up right away after being placed in park. i am concerned about allowing my wife to drive with children in car. *tr
I purchased a new 2005 dodge duragno limited edition with the hemi 5.7 engine on 2/1/05. last week, around the 3200 mile mark, i experienced my first engine stall when pulling into a parking place. no lights or other indicators come on to warn you that your car is about to die! the car started up again immediately and ran fine for the next 3 days. three days later, i was driving in busy atlanta traffic trying to turn left across two lanes of traffic. i had plenty of room when i began my turn, but the engine stalled almost immediately, died in the middle of the intersection with no steering ability, and i almost got hit by several cars and a large truck. the car immediately started back up again. i immediately called my dodge dealership and they said "haven't heard of that before so you'll need to bring it in so we can run some diagnostics". i printed off some of the complaints at the nhtsa website and took them to the dealer with me. the service advisor proclaimed, "the internet is our worst enemy, don't listen to that stuff". which to me meant, "dodge doesn't want you to have any clue about what is going on with your car". i told him the information came from the nhtsa website and told him of the numerous complaints, but he didn't seem to care. three hours later the dealer called and told me to come pick up my durango and take it to another dealer. his diagnostic machine was broken and he had no idea when it might be fixed! i told him to take it to the other dodge dealer. still waiting to find out what they may or may not do. i am extremely concerned at the lack of excitement on the part of dodge to fix this problem. i feel unsafe driving my car. i am single, have no family in this town to haul me around or borrow a vehicle from, and dodge doesn't care. i am not very happy about having to drive this vehicle based on the accident i was almost in a few days ago. i guess some people will have to die before ...
On 5/21/05 my 2005 durango with 5.7l engine stalled while making a right turn into a parking lot. lack of power steering made driving difficult. i restarted the car, turned into a parking spot and the engine quit once again.
I have an 05 hemi durango limited with 3,300 miles on it. since new the vehicle has occassionally died when making low speed turns. the dealer has informed me that the pcm flash provided by dodge has not corrected the problem and they are still working on a fix. overall the vehicle has stalled five times. i have also filed a similar complaint for my 05 ram 2500 with the hemi engine.
My wife owns an '05 dodge durango with the 5.7l hemi engine that she's had for about 5 months. recently, the engine stalled when she attempted to accelerate from a stop at an intersection. she was able to restart the vehicle immediately without an issue. this was the only time it happened, but i thought i would submit this incident in regards to an article that mentioned this problem in '04-'05 hemi engines.
Stalling with 2005 dodge durango limited with hemi. car is 3 weeks old and has stalled twice thus far. *nm
We purchased a 2005 dodge durango hemi in april of 2005. since then the engine has stalled in a variety of situations at least 15 times. we have had it to the dealer on a couple of occasions and they say they cannot diagnose or fix the problem if they can't either duplicate it (they couldn't) or find a fault code (they didn't). now they want me to leave it for an extended period, which isn't possible. the most common time for it to stall is turning at slower speeds, though it has stalled at idle as well (i.e. stopping at a stop light, coasting). the two worse times for me were turning left across oncoming traffic and nearly getting slammed by a school bus, and another time near the same school where the engine stalled as i rolled at 20 mph and didn't realize it until i almost ran up on a sidewalk with kids going to school. this is absolutely the truth. other times haven't caused immediate danger but the next time could be much more serious. someone will be hurt or worse if chrysler doesn't do something about this!!! i understand the need to duplicate an isolated incident, but when so many hundreds of people have publicly voiced their own experiences, and who knows how many more either not saying anything or going through the ringer at the dealership, something more should be acknowledged by chrysler and their dealers. it's unbelievable that you give them so much money for the car, then go in time after time and pay them to service it, only to have them get stone cold with you over this. unreal! i will never buy another chrysler product again. ever. *jb
Vehicle stalls inexplicably. no fault codes found from computer. dealer unable to provide troubleshooting and resolution. 2005 dodge durango with hemi.
While turning left into a parking lot, across a fairly busy road, my 3 week old dodge durango limited hemi just cut out. the power steering disappeared, the engine was gone, and i was in the middle of the oncoming lane. i switched the vehicle off, and on a few times until the power steering and acceleration were back. this is very dangerous, my dealer claims that the computer reports nothing is wrong, and i refuse to take back the vehicle. many people seem to have logged complaints of this nature on dodgetalk.com, what can be done about this?*ak
05 dodge durango w/5.7l hemi engine. 1,500 miles on vehicle. vehicle stalled pulling into a parking spot. re-started on 3rd crank.*ak
While driving at 30 mph engine stalled, locking up power steering. after engine stalled, and sat for a while the vehicle could be restarted. consumer could only drive vehicle for a short distant before it stalled again. took vehicle to a dodge dealer, and was informed that they could not find anything wrong.*ak
Dt*: the contact stated while driving, the vehicle stalls intermittently. the engine looses power or hesitate. the dealership has been alerted and the manufacturer has not been contacted. updated 04/06/06. *jb
Dt: engine stalled about 5 different times while slowing down. she started vehicle and it died while she was sitting still. dealer did not know what the cause of the problem was, and they didn't know if it will be covered by the warranty. manufacturer has not been contacted yet.*ak update 11/15/05. *jb....contact complained about vehicle stalling. manufacturer's recall of fuel tank, and airbag light problem. in regard to stalling, the contact was told by the dealership that the stalling problem could not be repeated by service technicians and that no codes were available after computer diagnosis. then, was told to start vehicle when it stalls the next time and have it towed directly to the dealership. in this way, they would be able to obtain the code for the problem. also, they told the contact that the idle wasn't correct and they adjusted it appropriately. concerning the fuel tank recall, after recall service was performed, the fuel tank was replaced. finally the driver's side airbag light would come on and stay on during vehicle operation. the dealership investigated it and found a wire problem which they repaired. *ak
Once again while driving my 2005 durango slowing down to make a turn the vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. oncoming traffic just missed colliding with the passenger side of the vehicle. also there has been a problem with the vehicle accelerator sticking causing the vehicle to have excessive rpm. also the front end seems to have some type of problem, while turning the vehicle the front end knocks and feels as if the wheels are going to fall off. daimler chrylser was contacted about the stalling problem again. this is my second durango as this was the replacement for the 2004 (lemon) durango which daimler chrylser bought back. chrysler still has not issued a recall for the stalling problem as this seemes to be a big problem with the 2004 model year as well. the dealeship had a mechanic test drive the vehicle and the stalling could not be reproduced. therefore nothing was fixed and the problem still exists, hopefully someone looks into the crash data statistics of how many durango had crashes due to vehicle stalling. *ak
I had won this vehicle in a lemon law suit against chrysler. when i picked up the new vehicle (dodge durango 05 w/ 5.7) it had a check engine light. the salesman assured me that it was because the car was left running while they were pumping gas. light went off after shutting off and opening gas cap. *nm
2005 dodge durango limited (5.7 hemi). while driving suv it just turns off. problem has happened 6 times now and has been to the dealership at least 3 times where they say their is no problem. *jb
