Durango is stalling while i am driving it. first time it stalled i was on a onramp to enter the freeway. i was lucky the car behind did not hit me. the vehicle stalls when i am trying to find a parking place and sometimes when i am trying to leave my driveway. it has never happen yet at high speed only at low speeds but i do think this is dangerous. i have taken the vehicle into the dealership twice. it does not happen for them. there are no warning lights. it just happens but it has not happened for them. so i am driving not knowing when the vehicle will stall out. i am under warranty. *tr
Moisture entered into the cylinders via that air intake manifold due to a water seal design defect in the area of the windshield wiper arms. when the vehicle is parked, rain water coming down the front windshield will flow directly under the cowl and onto the engine block. this water intrusion causes undue stress on the pistons, rods, and crankshaft eventually causing a rod to break and puncture the engine block. if this happens at highway speeds, the results could be deadly. the other known scenario is after the car is parked for a period of time (exposed to rain), the cylinder will fill with water, causing a hydro-lock condition and the vehicle will not start. the engine usually is found to also have a bent or fractured rod at this point. this is a known problem by dodge / chrysler and they refuse to do anything about it. see the numerous complaints on edmunds.com blogs and on youtube regarding this topic. i made a video of the problem so you see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtq2gkno0n8. *tr
The vehicle shuts off after you fill it up with fuel. *tr
My 2005 dodge durango 5.7 hemi has had a vast amount of stalling. i was going to pick my son up and the throttle light and the engine light came on. the throttle light was blinking. i would just be driving and it would die. this is a serious matter and if dodge is not made accountable someone could be hurt. i had my durango towed to a dodge dealer and was told it was the egr valve. so i had that replaced along with new spark plugs and wires. it was fine for a week then it did the exact same thing on a very busy road. it would start then die. so i had it towed a second time to the dodge dealer. this time i was told it had pulled 12 codes but they were not active but just stored codes. the dealer could not diagnose my durango. i was told they also checked the wiring and could not find anything. so i paid for the diagnostic and was told it never acted up on the mechanic. so again a week later it did the same thing and so we replaced the electronic throttle control. it ran ok for a week and now it is doing the exact same thing. it stalled on the interstate and my husband was nearly hit. can someone please look into this with dodge before someone gets hurt. the dealer cannot find what is wrong with my truck .please someone help figure this out i saw all of the complaints on line for this exact same problem.and also with mine this happened on more than one occasion. *tr
Just got my durango on 1-14-2013 coming home and the engine light came on and it just cut off coming down a busy highway when it cut off there is no power stalls hard to get off the road the cars behind me don't know what gone on just in front of them so they don't know to stop. when i got this durango no one told me about this .. *tr
My 2005 dodge durango slt stalls without warning. this has happened multiple times. *tr
This car has stalled multiple of times, with no lights, no warning of it going to happen. this is very dangerous and i have taken it to bob boyd dealership where i bought the car 6 years ago. it now has around 80000 miles on it and in the last few months, it has started to get worse. i took it to the dealership and they told me that they cant do anything with it until the can replicate the problem. the first time i took it there, it was 1 year after i bought it, they replaced the battery as they said that was the problem. was till the year and now the problem is back again. this time more frequent. i have taken the car to them twice now and they give me the same answer, that they cant fix it till it breaks, they have to replicate the problem to make sure they can fix it, meanwhile, i have a car that's not working right and very dangerous. they had the car for two days the first time, and then took it back to them after it stalled driving it home from the dealership. the second time, they kept it for over a week, still, they say they cant fix it cause they don't know what the problem is. you can google this problem and it is wide spread across this country, other dodge products are doing the same thing and the dealerships aren't doing anything to fix it. please contact these people and give us consumers a fighting chance in getting this fixed. i will never buy another dodge product after this. thanks for reading this, and if you decide to do something about this, thank you dearly for doing so. Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact was traveling 35-40 mph when the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not available. the current and failure mileages were 75,000.
I was making a u turn and the truck just shut off on me. i had put it on park and restart the engine. i experienced the issue numerous times and have taken it back to car max and they are unable to locate why the vehicle was just cutting off. i recently experienced where the car would start and turn off. just today i was trying to park the vehicle and the engine just cut off.
I was in nyc last week. i was making a turn in the city the truck cut off. a tractor trailer and several cars were behind me. i was able to put the car in park and re-start it. however, if someone behind was not paying attention that accident could have been terrible. prior to that i was driving on the fdr and truck cut off on me again, while in traffic. again i had to put the truck in park and start it up again. i know good and well chrysler knows about this problem because i see too many durango owners with the same problem. please create a recall we and our families lives are depending on it!!!! *js
Engine runs rough and stalls when driving slowly and going around turns. it does not brake or steer effectively after the engine stalls. *tr
While driving my vehicle, coming to a stop, or turning left at slow speeds 0-5 mph my engine stall without warning. no lights light up on the dash to indicate a problem. i have also noticed that rpms fluctuate (increase/decrease) while my foot is off the gas pedal. this is a daily occurrence. i first thought that i had bad fuel and put an fuel additive in the tank to hopefully resolve the problem. when the problem continued, i replaced the air filter, but the problem continued. i am now going to replace the egr, but i have seen that others have done so without any success in resolving the problem. based on the notices placed here and at various other web-sites for several years running, it appears that dodge does not have any procedures in place to resolve this problem. this is a health and safety issue that needs to be addressed. i purchased this vehicle for the purpose of transporting my grand kids, and lacrosse players to and from various events. if dodge does not resolve this problem, and i or someone i am transporting is injured or killed in a accident based on the above mentioned vehicle malfunction, dodge will be held accountable. *tr

2005 dodge durango limited, 5.7l hemi v8 stalls while backing up. first time it happened the truck started right back up immediately. the second time on 11/28/11, it took 3 times to restart the vehicle. this has only happened while in reverse. apparently this is a common problem with the hemis and there is a tsb #0802404 to "reflash" the engine and update the software. the forums state that this is a fix for some vehicles, but not all. i am scared to be in this car with my kids now-what if we stall on the highway and get into a wreck? please fix this issue! our safety is my number one concern, and should be yours as well, dodge! *kb

Engine randomly dies regardless of speed/rpm. restarts. no check engine light comes on. no other dash warning lights come on. 5.8l hemi no obd ii diagnostics codes. *tr
Driving in my neighborhood at 35 mph and the engine turned off completely! i coasted to a full stop, turned off the ignition...waited 10 seconds and then turned the ignition back on and drove off. vehicle also feels very sluggish especially driving over 55 mph. you must really push the pedal down to accelerate. engine shutting off is soooo dangerous. god for bid this will happen when im driving with my children in the car while on the freeway!!! *tr
2005 dodge durango 5.7 liter hemi. on freeway, engine started "pulling" and "missing" and shut off. 75 mph freeway speed, extremely dangerous situation. had a car load of kids. was able to put car in neutral, and start the engine (doesnt start immediately). ran fine for about 50 miles afterwards. happens about every 50 miles of driving. has been going on for 6 months. gives no codes as to what it can be. cleaned throttle, worked a for about a week, then problem continued today. its getting harder to get it started once it gives out. egr replaced ($500.00), battery (200.00), spark plugs (150.00), replaced fuel pump last week (220.00 with labor)...i'm basically tired of this!!!!!!! checked dodge forum and there is a lot of people having the same problem. no accidents have occured as of yet, but whats to say someone isnt going to be killed by this happening! please, please, please look into this problem. i'm all out of ideas, as are the dodge dealers and mechanics i've dealt with. for your sake, this needs to be taken care of before the lawsuits start coming. *tr
2005 dodge durango stalling while slowing down or accelerating from a stop. january 2010 dealer said they could not do anything unless they could reproduce the problem. happened again 4/8/2010. hopefully it does not happen again in traffic and i get killed or kill someone. i am afraid to drive this car. has happened over 15 times already. i lose all power when this happens, brakes, steering everything this is going to kill someone. i almost ran into a ditch 2 times already. there needs to be a recall on these vehicles. just replaced fuel pump worked for a day and doing it again their is something wrong with these vehicles. *tr
The engine suddenly, and without warning, stopped running. this happens at low speeds, especially when slowing down for a turn. it is extremely dangerous, as the power steering goes out when the engine stops. the date listed is the most recent incident, but this has happened before. *tr
Car stalls during idle and cruising at normal speed. stalling is intermittent. able to restart immediately. no error codes. unable to identify cause for stalling. accident waiting to happen. *tr
I am the owner of an auto repair shop, vehicle was driven by me with no engine running problem, no check engine light, no noises or sounds to indicate a problem. vehicle reason for being at shop was the four wheel drive was not working. after replacing the transfer case motor, i turned key to start vehicle, heard a loud noise, got out of vehicle, inspected, we found that the engine had thrown the number eight connecting rod, thru the engine block. i have photo's, witnesses and documentation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while the contact was driving approximately 35 mph the engine stalled and the check engine light began to illuminate on the instrument panel. the engine restarted and resumed as normal. the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the contact was informed that the vehicle was designed without an engine protection cover, which allowed water to leak into the engine causing severe damage. the sensor throttle and fourteen other parts were replaced within the engine. the vehicle remained at the dealer for one month for the repairs. four days after the repair, the engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently. the contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unknown.

My 05 durango 5.7 hemi stalled without warning twice in my driveway and once as i was turning left. no power steering,no power brakes,no check engine lights came on, it was very sudden and find this to be dangerous. i have found that other durango owners are having the same issues. i think it's time dodge figures out what to do before something terrible happens. i transport my grandchildren and also like to travel alot and i am afraid to drive now. lets's hope this problem is acknowledged soon enough. thank you. *tr
2005 dodge durango (v8 hemi) periodically stalls during normal driving. engine will die, power steering and brakes will fail. engine restarts immediately after each incident. check engine light remains illuminated. has been to the dealer twice to diagnose with no rectification of the issue. date of latest incident is shown below. *tr
While driving the rpms will jump around. then when slowing down or at a stop the engine will stall out. this has usually happens going about 34-50 mph and it stalls leaving you unable to turn. very dangerous. they have reprogramed computer and replaced throttle positioner. it has occured around 5 times just in the past week. it started out doing it once every couple months now it will do it within feet of restarting. i have to stop, put in park, and restart. *tr
There is a problem with my 2005 dodge durango 5.7l hemi. it stalls without warning when coasting. my wife complained but i didn't believe her much until it happened to me. i was approaching a turn then all of a sudden the car lost its power steering. i looked down at the rpm's and noticed the vehicle had turned off, i threw it into neutral, coasted and re-started the car. almost hit the center divide and missed the turn and if my wife was driving i'm sure she would have gotten into an accident. i have read numerous online complaints from different forums with the same problem, this is definitely not an isolated issue! *tr
This vehicle on numerous occasions shuts off while moving down the road. started out only during slow speeds, but has started to do it while actually cruising down the road. no warning, just total loss off steering, brakes and engine. luckily it has cranked back up and able to get out of the road. i also have had on several occasions the temperature gauge indicate that the engine was overheating and the car will just rev up and lose power. i have had everything checked (fluids, oil pump, radiator, plugs and wires etc) and find nothing wrong. of course nothing will be wrong until the engine blows, which then can be fixed at my expense. another problem to add to the list is the liftgate acuator stopped working which has made it impossible to open the rear hatch. the plastic gear in the motor is broke but you have to buy the whole part to fix it. *ln
Engine stalls w/o warning or. *tr
When filling up the gas tank, the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not function properly. it does not close and gas always spills out. i am afraid that gas spills out while driving. at times, with the keys in the ignition, the car will turn off by itself if i am moving slowly. i bought this truck in 2006. the first year, i brought the car in for stalling on its own. the dealership told me that there was nothing that they could do and the car did not have a problem. i brought the truck in about three times for the same problem and every time, nothing was resolved. after that i did not have the money or the time to continue bringing the truck in for a problem that the dealership was saying they could not find. over the years, i have just dealt with this truck stalling on its own. about 1 year ago, i noticed that the car started spilling out gas if it was filled up. i did not know there was a recall until i researched the problem online. i found that there was a recall. i contact chrysler customer care, they looked up my vin # and told me that they did not have any recalls listed on my particular truck. i explained to the representative that my car had a problem with the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve and that gas spilled out. i told them that i was afraid that gas was spilling from the tank while i was driving. the representative told me that there was nothing that they could do and told me to take the truck to the dealership. i am afraid that if i take the truck to the dealership i will be responsible for all of the expensive charges to fix this problem. i do not have the money for this since i am paying $700 a month for a truck that should never have been financed at that amount in the first place and is not worth the amount still owed. *ln the consumer stated she was involved in a head-on-collision on april 25, 2011 and the air bags did not deploy. also, the rear wiper made a whistling noise. ...
My durango will stall without warning. it normally does this at low speeds such as coming up on a stop sign or doing a 3 point turn. when it stalls you lose power steering and brakes. it has also happened on the freeway in stop and go traffic. *tr
Stalling upon deceleration of the vehicle (2005 dodge durango). stalling while driving on the road when decelerating.*tr
My 2005 dodge durango stalls at low speeds or when stopped at light. stalls when turning in front of traffic. i have gone online to read hundreds of similar complaints. dodge dealership has done nothing but charge people money for futile repairs that hasn't solved the problem. someone is going to get killed. i pray a family with small children don't have to be the sacrifice for dodge to do something about the problem. this is very dangerous. it was opened for investigation but later closed. due to people like me who didn't know how to properly report the problem, just go to the dealership for them to tell us we are wrong and the durango is just fine. please open this up for investigation, i will let you keep my durango for 30 days to see for yourself, you can pick it up anytime. . please don't react after someone pays the ultimate price, it may be you or someone you know and/or love. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when decelerating, the vehicle would stall without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they were unable to determine the cause of failure. the failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
First, the cruise control stopped working. then, the speedometer and odometer quit working when the abs, parking brake, check engine, and traction control lights all came on. took it to the dealer to repair the instrument cluster recall, and was told that it needs a new abs control module and wiring harness. the wiring harness is completely melted, probably because of a short in the control module - at least that's what i was told at the dealership. the wiring harness is on a national backorder until late september, so i am without abs brakes, traction control, and a speedometer/odometer until then. *tr
I bought this vehicle used, and started having problems with it immediately after buying it. gas overflows out of the gas tank almost every time i fill it up. it's going to catch on fire at some point because of this. also, the engine stalls out at random times causing the vehicle to steer and brake very poorly until restarted. i noticed that other model years of this same vehicle have had the same problems as this one, however dodge refuses to fix this one - even though other model years have been recalled and repaired. this stupid thing is going to blow up one day at the gas station, or i'm going to crash into somebody when it stalls, but i can't afford to spend thousands of dollars to take it every mechanic on the planet to find out what is wrong with it - especially since dodge already knows what is wrong with it - but just won't take responsibility for building it poorly. *tr
2005 dodge durango hemi. when driving approx 30 mph my durango just died in the middle of a very busy intersection. i lost all steering and brakes. its a miracle i didn't cause a 20 car pile up. i was just about to get on a major highway. i have 3 kids who were luckily not in the vehicle with me. they towed my durango to a local shop who could not determine what was wrong. they inturn towed it to a dodge dealership where they told me right away that the valve spring went and now i need to replace the engine. i cannot believe there has not been a recall on this, especially when i see how many other have had the same issue. dodge needs to step up to the plate and take care of all of us with these engine problems. at this point i'd rather buy a toyota that another dodge. at least they recalled their vehicles and took ownership of the problems they were having. as it stands i have been out of a vehicle for 2 weeks now and no signs of getting it back soon. i have been told that the new engine i had to buy at $8,000 is backordered and cannot get until dec!!! i have 3 kids and no longer a vehicle to fit everyone in. i asked about a rental to help me out but was also told dodge won't do that either. *tr
2005 dodge durango stalls with out notice. this is a ongoing problem and nobody and can repair it. i'm sure this could cause a wreak with no power steering or brake. please help the dealers have no idea what it could be. i can't drive this car it is unsafe. *tr
I have already filed this complaint but never got any resolution and the problem is getting worse. the engine stalls at low speeds. it sounds just like your what is described in your investigation ea05018. it is now at the mechanic and they have been unable to diagnose a problem so far. i am concerned about driving this vehicle and if this is a known defect i want to know why chrysler/dodge or the odi cannot offer a fix immediately before safety is further compromised? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while driving 25 mph and making a left or right turn, the vehicle stalled. when the vehicle stalled, there would be no power steering, brakes or electrical power. there were no warning lights prior to the failure. the contact called the dealer who stated that they would not be able to repair the vehicle if they could not duplicate the failure. the contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
I have a 2005 dodge durango that was purchased from cars plus in lenoir, nc in march 2010. starting about three weeks ago the vehicle began to lose all power while it was being driven if you start around a turn or hit the brakes. this does not occur every time you take a turn or hit the brakes. in the past three weeks it has happened 8 times. when this happens the vehicle looses all power. you have no brakes and no power steering. there are no warnings this is going to happen. we have had it to the local dodge dealer twice and someone else once. nothing pulls up on the computer and they can't find anything wrong. dodge has told me this is my problem, even though there are about 800 complaints about this problem in the 2005 durangos on the computer, because my warranty is out. i am afraid to drive this vehicle because i don't want to be in an accident. i don't want any injury to come to my children or someone else's children. i am paying payments on a vehicle i can't drive and don't want to trade it in and someone else get stuck with this vehicle and possibly get injured driving it. i don't have any more options and would like to know what to do. my insurance company has told me i would be responsible for any accident in this vehicle because they can't find a defect. i don't want to trade my vehicle in to the dealership and just pass the problem along, but i need a dependable vehicle. please advise me what to do with this safety issue. *tr
