We have classified the 443 complaints from 2005 Dodge Durango about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
I can not fill up my vehicle all the way because fuel spews out before the pump shuts off. i have contacted the dealer and they will not look at it as a defect or recall anymore. i have to pay for it. i do not think that this right because this is a very serious security hazard. this issue is clearly a serious problem and could cause serious injuries or even death if an ignition source happened to blow nearby. i think the dealer should fix it free of charge. i know that there has been a recall on this before so the dealer should fix any issue that comes up concerning all factory defects and/or recalls regardless of how long it has been. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when gasoline was added to the fuel tank it would spill onto the ground. the dealer was not notified of the failure. the dodge manufacturer was contacted and they offered to file a claim since there was nothing else they could do to assist him. there were no related recalls or warranties. the failure and current mileages were 85,000.
Every time i fill my 2005 dodge durango with gasoline the gas overfills as the pump shuts off. this happens every time i fill with gas at any gas station. i have spoken with dodge and they tell me that there is a recall for this problem in 2005 dodge durangos but my 2005 durango is not included in the recall. this has not caused any crash, injury or fire, but i feel that it is a significant safety risk and that it should be investigated further. i have looked at many online message boards and it seams that many other owners of dodge durangos have this same problem and have been told the same thing by dodge. *tr
Each and everytime our vehicle is refueled gasoline sprays out of the filler neck ..we have found recalls of 2005 dodge durangos such as ours but according to dodge our suv is not one of the ones covered for the recall. there answer to us is oh just take it to the dealer and pay for the repairs and send us the bills and maybe we will pay for it.. we feel that this vehicle should be included ion the recall as it does fall within the recalls of 2005 durangos. *tr
Fuel spits out of the gasoline filler tube when refueling completed. happens regardless of whether or not the tank is "topped off". speed of refill has no effect. fast or slow, the same thing happens. happened the last three time i refueled. dealer says my 2005 dodge durango is not covered in past recalls. *tr
When filling the car with gas, the fuel does not shut off... spilling fuel all over the ground and down the side of the car. *tr
Fuel filler check valve does not work. gasoline will spray out of car when topping off. *tr
When filling the gas tank on my 2005 dodge durango. the gas does not automatically shut off causing an overflow every time. this is the exact thing that is described in a recall for '05 durangos however mine does not have a qualifying vin #. my vehicle has 44,000 miles on it. i contacted chrysler, due to not being covered under warranty or the recall they said it was my financial responsibility to get the problem diagnosed and repaired by the dealership. chrysler stated only after that was done they would look into if further but could not assure me they would cover any of the repair bill. i have not had this done as i cannot afford the up front expense. for the meanwhile i do not fill my tank all the way. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact noticed that the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve would not close at the end of refueling the vehicle, similar to nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). both the dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure who advised the contact that his vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was approximately 38,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when refueling to full capacity, the filler cap would not shut off and cause fuel to leak onto the ground. the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but denied any assistance stating that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.
My vehicle started few months ago to squirt gas out of the tank once the pump clicked off at the gas station. i recently learned that there have been two recalls for this particular problem 05v34000 and 09v003000 for a 2005 dodge durango, which i own. i have contacted dodge and they have told me that my vehicle is not one of the ones affected. i asked the person how i would get my vehicle under the recall he then told me to go get a diagnostics check and accused me of causing the problem by putting a marble in the gas tank. this is a problem with the vehicle design and a safety concern because i continue to dump gas onto the ground. *tr
Chrysler recall h45 - fuel tank filler inlet check valve (gas spits back at you and doesn't stop flow from the pump when full). we researched the symptoms and found some information at the time. we approached a local mendon, ma dealer about the issue and were told "there is no recall and your car is out of warranty". now we found a letter from chrysler acknowledging the issue and found our vehicle was manufactured during the recall time frame (9/04 vs. recall dates for 2005 model through november 2004). tank has had these issues for some time now, 3/2010 is a "best recollection" as to when we first noticed. *tr
My 2005 dodge durango has gas spill out when it is filled up. the only way to prevent is to not completely fill the tank. the dealer is going to diagnose it and if they suggest replacing the fuel tank then i will have to pay a $100 deductible since i have an extended warranty. chrysler customer service stated my vin was not in the recall and regardless of the fact that it is the same issue they recalled 18,000 2005 durango's for they said it should be done at my expense. this issue occurs at any gas station i go to any time i try to fill the tank. we have had it at the dealer in the past for this issue when it occurred intermittently and nothing was done at that time as it did not occur with the dealer. *tr
I purchase my 2005 dodge durango sxt in early december of 2009. the vehicle only has 52,663 miles on it. i have been having issues when filling my durango with gas. when i fill it up it doesn't shut off causing gas to shoot out everywhere, over my car, ground and myself once getting it in my face. i thought at first that it may have been just a pump issue at the gas station, but it has happened to me at 3 other stations as well. i read on many different forums that there is a recall for this type of problem. i was wondering what information or steps i need to take as this is a huge safety concern. i appreciate any information you could have for me. *tr
When filling up my 2005 dodge durango with gas the fuel comes shooting out of the filler tube all over the ground and myself. i looked at recalls for chrysler and they have had a recall for this same issue on 2005 dodge durango's but after contacting them they said that my vehicle is not part of the recall. this is a huge safety concern having gasoline spill over myself, vehicle and everything around me. i talked to an authorized dealership (phil spady chrysler dodge in columbus, ne ) and they said i need to replace the whole gas tank and they said my vehicle was not part of the recall. my vehicle is doing exactly the same thing that they recalled other 2005 dodge durango's for. *tr
When fueling the vehicle to full, fuel will spill out causing a fire hazard. i have contacted my local dealer about a possible recall on this vehicle, and i was told that my vin was not included in the current safety recall. the overflowing happens every time the vehicle is fueled. *tr
2005 dodge durango- gas overflow problem while fueling occurs everytime pumping. started 2/10/10. *tr
2005 dodge durango, every time i fuel up the tank to full fuel sprays back at me, this is a serious fire hazard when fueling. i contacted chrysler and they advised that my particular durango was not part of the recall. the vehicle has only 32,000 miles on it and is used to mainly transport my twins. i know that dodge had a recall on certain durangos however are not willing to take a look at mine and it is doing the same thing the recalled durangos are doing. i feel dodge has a much larger problem or defect with the gas tanks on all durangos in this year range. this has happened multiple times and continues to happen each time i attempt to fill up my tank. can you please help? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling, fuel would spill onto the ground once the tank was full. the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was approximately 100,000.
My 2005 dodge durango has the defective fuel tank filler inlet check valve described in nhtsa campaign id 09v003000. this was confirmed by performance dodge the dodge dealer in lincoln, nebraska. chrysler claims my vin is not part of this recall, however the needed replacement part is on nationwide back order due to this recall. i have confirmed my vehicle has the defective part and chrysler should replace it at no charge. i have noticed spillage while refueling for several years but did not realize it was due to a defective part. *cn *tr
I puchased a 2005 dodge durango. when i fueled up the vehicle fuel spilled out of the filler tube on to the floor no matter how carefully i fueled the vehicle. i researched the problem and discovered a fuel tank inlet check valve safety recall for the 2005 dodge durango. when i contacted dodge i was told that the recall was vin# specific and my vehicle was not covered by the recall. the problem described in the recall is the exact same problem i am having with my vehicle yet dodge refuse to make the repair because they claim it is a warranty issue and the vehicle is out of the warranty period.*cw
2005 dodge durango; gas spills out after filling with gas at gas station. dealer said my vehicle is not covered under the existing recall for other 2005 dodge durango's that also spill gas after filling. i logged a case with chrysler and they want me to pay for analysis at the dealer, and then they will determine if and how much to cover; if any. they said its not covered and that the supplier of the part that has failed on the others is different, though i have seen numerous other complaints on discussion boards that they also are not getting covered repairs under a recall because their vehicle's vin is not covered under the recall. i believe that they need to issue a new recall or expand this to more vehicles, it is very clear that more vehicles have this same safety hazard that they are admitting too. i do not feel that i have to pay the dealer to determine the issue. i want chrysler to repair for free since this is covered under recall for other same vehicles. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that whenever she added fuel to the vehicle the tank would overflow and fuel would splash out on the person filling the tank as well as the vehicle and ground. this situation causes a dangerous situation because of the gasoline spillage. the contact called the dealership and was told that the vehicle was not included in recalls for fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was not repaired when the complaint was filed. the contact filed a complaint with manufacturer but she was still awaiting a response. the current mileage was 100,000. the failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
Gas sprays out when fueling 2005 dodge durango. started about 1 year ago. i contacted the dodge dealer at that time and they said they'd never heard of a problem like that and that it must be faulty gas pumps. problem has gotten worse and now occurs every time i fill the tank. i contacted the dodge dealer again and they said there had been a recall for this problem but that this vehicle is not covered under the recall. vehicle was inspected by independent auto shop which verified that there is a faulty fuel inlet check valve and that it is a serious fire hazard. they also verified that the recall was issued for this same faulty part but that the dodge dealer told them this vehicle wasn't part of the recall when they contacted them on my behalf. *tr
Dodge durango won't take gas pump keeps shutting off. *tr
Fuel tank failure - filling gas tank and the tank will overflow. *tr

Gas does not stop when filling tank. the gas pump clicks off and then gas pours out of the car's tank spilling on the ground. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact was refueling the vehicle when the fuel tank overflowed at the end of fueling and began spilling onto the ground. the contact stated there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vin was not included in the recall. no further assistance was offered. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that he was unable to fill the fuel tank with gasoline and could only refuel with small amounts of gasoline at a time. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
When filling up car with gas, after the pump shuts off, gas pours out of the tank. *tr
2005 dodge durango - every time i try to fill the gas tank up, it spits gas back out. dealer says that my vin is not covered in the recall regarding this, but i have the exact same problem. i have heard stories of other owners getting this replaced by reporting it through nhtsa. *tr
About a week ago, my husband was filling the gas tank and once the tank was full, the fuel began to spew out of the tank. gas leaked along the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. then just yesterday, i failed to remember that the vehicle was having trouble with the fuel tank and filled it again. just as i walked toward the vehicle, the gas meter stopped and there was a click and gas spewed all over the side of the car and onto the ground. i contacted dodge and was told that although there was a recall on the vehicle, my vin was not included in the recall. the person took my claim and someone that did not give me his name called and told me that they are not aware of the condition of the vehicle and therefore would not inspect or repair the vehicle. i am taking the vehicle in to be diagnosed on 1/13/2010 at carmax, which is where i purchased the vehicle. *tr
When filling up the fuel tank in my 2005 dodge durango, gas would spill/splash out of the tank instead of stopping when full. we finally took it to our local dodge dealer and they said we needed a new gas tank as some "flow" related part within the gas tank was bad. the solution was to replace the entire gas tank. when the dealer attempted to find a part, they informed me it would take a month for the part to come in as there were over 100 on back-order, all related to the same issue. it seemed odd to me that a less-than-5-year-old car with only 40,000 miles on it had to have its gas tank replaced, but it seemed more odd that there were over 100 others at a minimum like me awaiting the same part. seems like this is a defect in the way the original equipment was built and/or installed.
Add one more complaint to the others about gas spewing out when you fill up the tank. this is ridiculous, i was never notified of a recall, only found out about it after talking to another durango owner. i have never even heard of this happening on any other vehicle but is obviously a defect with the durango. i will be contacting our dealer (and others if needed) to see if we qualify for this recall. have held off taking it for repair after having to pay $800 on a locked up steering wheel on a 3 yr old vehicle. and don't even get me started on the $300 keys that stop working due to a known design flaw. *tr
When fueling vehicle after the fueling nozzle is cut off several ounces of fuel spills/squirts out from the tank. failure began occurring around 40k miles. using different fueling sites still has same result. stopping fueling as tank nears full has same results. this will occur every time vehicle is fueled unless fueling is stopped prior to tank becoming close to capacity. recall e01 completed on vehicle on 7/15/2005 shortly after purchase. however, vehicle tested and no repairs were made/indicated at the time. the symptoms mentioned above are the exact same as mentioned in the recall. numerous other similar complaints are listed with nhtsa. dealer indicated they would perform test again for a fee and consult manufacturer regarding repair coverage. my feeling is this is a result of the same defective part indicated in the recall and it was just not detected during initial recall inspection. vehicle has not been repaired. currently i only fill tank to about three quarters full to avoid fuel spilling/squirting out. dangers from the fuel include possibility of fire or fuel contacting skin/face/eyes. *tr
Gas overflows when filling gas tank. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle fuel spilled from the fuel tank and onto the ground. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer inspected the vehicle but was unable locate the failure. the manufacturer was contacted but denied assistance with the repairs because the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
When refueling, it causes the pump to stop sending fuel and then the fuel gushes out all over the vehicle, nozzle, and ground. mine is much worse than this example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0-_9wg6dw4 i called the dealership in richmond, ky and they said my vin did not fall in their tsb/recall for this very same symptom. *tr
We just bought a 2005 dodge durango with 32000 miles that spits gasoline out of the filler neck when the tank has been filled. this is a common problem with these vehicles but dodge won't recall them. and they want $900 to replace the tank can you help stop this safety problem?*cw
Gas tank filler neck. a vehicle recall was issued for leaking gas when fueling. dealer checked and stated car was fine and not effected. since i have filled vehicle (3) times and (2) of those time gas has come out of the filler neck with so much force it splashed all over me and surrounding equipment. incident happened before inspection as well and dodge was told about it at time of service but they still stated no issue existed. the tank is defective, and appears to be getting worse. posses a large threat of ignition when gas and gas vapor shoots on the person pumping gas. inspection method is inadequate and not working. issue is still present and dodge is not fixing the recall even though a issue exists. *tr
Every time i fill up my 2005 dodge durango the fuel comes spilling out of the fill pipe. if i do not stand back in time it ejects fuel all over me, my hands, my clothes, the ground and the side of the vehicle. i have contacted dodge over a week ago and have not heard back from them. i checked the vin for recalls and it is not included in the recall that is going on with the exact same problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango which was purchased brand new in 2005. she stated that when fuel was added to the vehicle, the filler cap would overflow and spew gasoline back out of the vehicle. the dealer stated that the inlet valve was stuck in the open position. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that although nhtsa recall campaign number 05v034000, fuel system, gasoline, storage tank assembly, filler pipe and cap is related to the failure for her year, make and model, her vin was not included. to date, there were no repairs made on the vehicle to correct the failure. the failure and current mileages were 97,636. updated 04/09/10. *lj the fuel tank intake valve failed. updated 09/13/10
2005 dodge durango - fuel spurts out of tank at end of filling nearly every time. *tt
When fueling my 2005 dodge durango just after fueling is complete and pump shuts off, fuel sprays back through filler neck. there is a current recall that is to repair this exact problem on other 2005 dodge durango, however, the dealer says my vin is not included in this recall. after researching on the internet i found that several people are having this issue. there is even a case number listed on your site. rq08005. i have contacted both the dealer and chrysler and they have offered to do nothing more than charge me to repair my vehicle. *tr
When fueling the vehicle, after the pump has shut off, fuel will shoot out of the fuel fill hole. this has done this repeatedly, and is to the point where it does it everytime the vehicle is filled up. when this happens, fuel is all over the ground, shoes, pants and anything else near the fuel cap. this is beginning to concern me as this is an extreme fire hazard. recalls for the 2005 dodge durango were researched and our particular vin# is not under the recall list. no repairs were attempted. date listed below is the last time this incident happened. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. when the contact added fuel in the tank the gasoline came back out of the vehicle. the dealer stated that the entire gas tank needed to be replaced. nhtsa recall numbers 05v034000 and 09v003000 are directly related to the failure; however, the vin was not included. the dealer also stated that the parts are on back order and they do not know when they will be available. the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls related for her vin. the failure mileage was 70,000. updated 2/22/10 *cn the consumer also stated the vehicle surged forward. updated 07/06/10.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. this allows fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. her vehicle identification number was excluded from recall number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the failure mileage was 36,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when she was refueling the vehicle, the check valve did not close and the gasoline overflowed. the dealer and the manufacturer were called and stated that the vehicle is not on the recall list. the contact filed a claim with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 88,000. updated 02/02/10. *lj updated 02/05/10.*jb updated 03/26/10. *lj upated 05/12/10.8jb
Gasoline gushes out of gas tank upon refueling. dodge durango 2005. this occurs every time the vehicle is refueled. gas covers the rear quarter panel and under surfaces of the vehicle as well as the gas station ground and equipment (and anyone standing near the refueling area). chrysler refuses to include my vehicle in the recall to pay for the repair. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the fuel spilled out whenever he attempted to fill the tank. he contacted the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in recall 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) and he would be responsible for repair costs. the contact stated that the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve was inadequate. the failure and current mileages were approximately 98,000.
