Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2005 Dodge Durango

Whenever i fill the gas tank, gas comes pouring back out at me. i have called chrysler and they told me that my vehicle vin was not included in the recall. this happens every time i fill the tank! there's at least a 1/4 to 1/2 a gallon of gas that comes pouring out. not only do i have to pay for this wasted fuel i also am putting several people at risk of a fire every time i fill up due to the unsafe nature of the problem. i expect that when i purchase a vehicle that it's going to be safe. doesn't chrysler have their customers safety in mind....if so, correct the problem!

I have a 2005 dodge durango and after filling with fuel the gas will come pouring back out of the filler spout. i had my mechanic look at it and he cleaned the filter but filled it again today and the same thing happened. i had my vin checked but is not included in dodges recall. the dodge dealer quoted just under $1,000 to fix the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, gasoline would spill back out. the dealer was notified and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap tact). the manufacturer was notified and confirmed that the vin was not included in the recall. they offered no other assistance. the failure mileage was 109,000.

My 2005 dodge durango splashes gas out of the tank when refueling. it has been diagnosed by the dealership and the gas tank needs to be replaced. this is an $1111 repair on an issue addressed in a limited recall. why is my vehicle not part of this recall when it is having the recall problem? this is a major safety issue, gas splashing out of the tank, onto the truck, the ground and myself. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling, fuel began to spill from the filler neck. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the contact was also advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 87,400.

Gas spills out of the fuel filler tube during every refueling. the gas pump does not shut off automatically. as the result, gas is spilled during every time i get gas. this wastes gas, causes an environmental issue, and potentially could cause a fire. *tr

Fuel spit-back through the filler neck - issue is well documented with chrysler as a recall for my make and model, but they misled me into believing they would resolve the issue until after it was diagnosed. my vin is not listed on the recall list and should be.

2005 dodge durango. when filling at the gas pump, fuel splashes out all over the ground and me when it shuts off. this has been happening since 10k miles, i just put up with it. i found there was a recall, and i want this fixed. not sure why i did not receive a notice. *tr

I own a 2005 dodge durango which has had a fuel issue from the day we got it. almost every time we fill the tank, gasoline continues to spill out of the nozzle. this is especially noticeable when we fill up with the older style pumps that do not have the plastic sleeves on them. my investigation revealed a recall for the inlet valve but chrysler/dodge says my vin series is not covered. this issue obviously encompasses more vehicles than the recall indicates. chrysler stated they would look into the matter but i would have to pay a 95 dollar diagnostic and if it was the fuel inlet valve.. it would require "customer participation" to fix. they are willing to assist but tell me i will be responsible for between 100 and 500 dollars of the repair costs plus the 95 dollar diagnostic fee. i wish to add my complaint to the list of individuals who have already complained about this very concern. dodge needs to be held accountable for all of the vehicles experiencing this issue. it makes little sense that some 2005 durango's are recalled but my particular one is not when the issue is the same. please help. *tr

When filling fuel tank, after automatic shutoff by pump the fuel tank spews fuel out. this is, apparently, a fairly common problem with dodge durangos. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, fuel would spew from the vehicle, splashing onto the contact and the vehicle. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) and stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. the dealer however, advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the dealer also informed the contact that the fuel tank would need to be replaced due to a faulty check valve. the contact stated that the fuel spewing from the tank could possibly result in a fire. the failure mileage was 92,288.

Everytime i fill up gasoline and after the automatic shutoff in the handle stops the pump, a large amount of gasoline is sprayed onto myself and the vehicle. this is not only a potential fire hazard but a severe environmental issue. *tr

2005 dodge durango - approximately a pint to a quart of fuel overflows from fuel filler tube when filling up. there was an apparent recall on this problem but chrysler/dodge stated that my vin number is not covered under the recall. took vehicle in for inspection to a dealer. quoted over $1100 for replacing whole fuel tank assembly in order to fix problem. chrysler said they would cover all but 369.50 and that the company normally does not cover any amount of repair outside of warranty or a recall. clearly, this should be a recall issue as many other 2005 durango owners are experiencing the same problem. problem has persisted since purchasing from a friend's lease turn-in (approx 42k mi). currently have approx 78k miles. chrysler should cover this defect in full in that it is a serious safety issue and is not a problem stemming from wear and tear or abuse. *tr

2005 dodge durango spills large amounts of gas when tank is filled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that upon refueling, fuel began to spill out from the filler neck. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. no other assistance was provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 120,000.

We have been having trouble fueling our durango for the last 5 months. when the tank is full the pumps shuts off and then gasoline spews out of the filler tube. on myself or the attendant, the truck, and the ground. it does not matter the station or speed of fill. there are two open recalls for this same issue but i have been told by local dealer my vin is not included. i request that chrysler/dodge be forced to expand the effected vehicles vin numbers and do there part to protect their customers and the environment but stopping the spill of gas on us and the ground.

My gas tank splashes back at me when i fill it. when i went to get it checked out i was informed that my vin number was not on the recall list that is stating an identical problem to other 2005 dodge durangos. *js

While filling fuel, the pump stopped as normal than shortly after wards a geiser of fuel came spewing out of the durango's filler nozzle. *tr

Gasoline splashback on 2005 dodge durango, this has happened several times regardless of how the gas is pumped by hand or automatically shut off. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling, fuel escaped from the vehicle through the filler neck. the failure always occurred when the pump was set to refuel automatically. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer, however the manufacturer was notified. the manufacturer stated that the vin did not qualify for the recall under nhtsa campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly).the failure mileage was 100,00 and the current mileage was 111,000.

On 03-08-2011 while putting fuel into my 2005 dodge durango i was soaked in gas at the end of the fueling. my wife advised me this has happened before at different gas stations, some fuel escaping through the filler neck at the end of refueling and spraying persons fueling the vehicle, as well as spilling on the vehicle and the ground. i checked with nhtsa and found out that there are 2 recalls on 2005 dodge durango for this exact issue (nhtsa campaign id numbers 09v003000 and 05v034000). per insructions on those recall summaries i've contacted chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 on 03-09-2011. i've advised them of the problem with my vehicle and the fact that there are two recalls on the same make, model, and year as my vehicle. chrysler assigned me a case number 20513614 and a case manager identified as rosie with phone number 1-800-763-8422, ext. 66049. this case manager said that while 2005 dodge durango have been recalled due to the fuel spilling at the end of refueling, my vehicle didn't have the right vin number to be recalled. the case manager told me to set an appointment with a dodge dealer, steve white dodge in hickory, nc, to see what was causing the fuel spill. on 03/15/2001 my vehicle was checked at the dodge dealership. it was determined by this dodge dealer that the fuel does escape at the end of the fueling and fits the description on nhtsa recalls 09v003000 and 05v034000. however, i would have to pay myself for the repair since my vin doesn't match. i've contacted the chrysler case manager. i've asked her specifically if the problem with my vehicle matches the ones that have been recalled. the case manager acknowledged that it was the same same problem, same make, model, and year, but not the right vin. she offered to reimburse only $140 from my repair bill. chrysler should reimburse the whole repair bill, since there are recalls on this vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel spilled out of the fuel tank whenever it was added to the fuel tank. the contact also noticed nhtsa recall campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline tank: assembly), but the manufacturer stated the vehicle was not included. the failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage is 130,000. updated 11/17/11 *bf updated 11/23/11

When re-fueling the gas tank on my 2005 dodge durango, once the tank is full and the gas pump shuts off, excess gas spills out of filler tube all down the side of my truck and the ground. took my vehicle to the dealership and they confirmed that the fuel tank check valve is sticking and not releasing properly. *tr

Fuel spews out of filler neck when refueling before tank is full unless fuel is added very slowly and pump is stopped and handle is removed from filler neck each time after adding 2-6 gallons depending on how much fuel is currently in tank.

Upon filling up at the gas station, when the pump shut off, there was an overflow from the gas tank. about the same time, i had to replace the tires and was told the car needed to have the ball joints replaced and there was a recall out for the job. however, i was told my vin number did not qualify. updated 05/08/14

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed back out of the filler neck. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who advised the contact that they would contact him at a later date. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 60,359.

Dodge durango fuel tank inlet check valve - safety recall: i own a 2005my dodge durango that has had issues with fuel spilling out of the filler tube after filling at a gas station. this occurs every time the tank is filled, resulting in 1-2 seconds backflow out of the fuel tank and running down the side of the vehicle or onto my hands. my brother-in-law, who works at chrysler, owns a 2008 my durango with the same issue. i have information on chrysler safety recall h45 and e01 that seem to be directly related to this issue. when taken to the dealer for investigation, they did nothing and claimed there was no recall available for this issue and provided me with an estimate to replace the fuel tank (~$900). i would like my issue included under the terms of the other related safety recalls. please contact me. *tr

When fueling, as the truck reaches a full tank it will spew gas after the pump has shut off. my vehicle was initially included in the first recall, and my replaced tank worked well for a few years. a few months ago the problem recurred and has continued at each fill. for me it's not an issue because i know how much i can put in before hitting full. but my wife and i just switched vehicles and it is a real concern for her. *tr

Every time i fill up the fuel tank on my 2005 dodge durango, at least a gallon spills out of the filler neck when it has finished fueling. this could easily start a fire or explosion and could seriously injure people. chrysler has refused to look at the vehicle stating that it is not covered in a previous recall for the exact same issue. *tr

Fuel began spraying from neck of gas tank when filling up in fall of 2010. we tried refilling at large number of service stations across utah, nevada and california, with the same result when the nozzle clicks off, fuel gushes out of the fuel tank. i took it to the local dodge dealer in, and after spending $260, they were not able to fix the problem. it will cost another $500 to $1000 to fix this dangerous problem. there was a recall of lower vin # durangos to fix this, but not for our vin #. this is a serious safety issue as well as a waste of gas and a pollution problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when he added gasoline to the fuel tank, the automatic shutoff valve did not function and the fuel spilled out of the filler neck. the failure occurred every time the tank was full. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the vehicle was not included in recalls 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) and 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. the current mileage was approximately 43,200. the failure mileage was approximately 42,000. updated 07/08/11 *bf updated 11/23/11

I have a 2005 dodge durango and when the fuel tank is filled up, before the auto shut off engages on the fuel pump, the fuel tank spews fuel back out of the inlet on the vehicle. this occurs nearly every time the fuel tank is filled up where we rely on the auto shut off to signal when the tank is full. this causes fuel to spill onto the ground and down the side of my vehicle, and at times onto myself or my wife, which can be a safety hazard. no parts have been replaced as the dealer quoted several hundred dollars and stated although there is a recall for this exact issue, the recall is vin specific and ours does not qualify. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while fueling, the contact noticed that fuel began to spill from the filler neck. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage: tank assembly) that may be related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 74,126. ...updated 09/27/11 *bf updated 11/02/11

I have two safety concerns about our 2005 dodge durango. first, during the end of fuel filling, as the vapor lock on the pump engages and shuts the valve to the pump off, gas immediately spews from the filler neck, as if the tank depressurized. it has happened to me three (3) times now. this is a major safety concern! the result could cause a fire resulting in serious injury or worse! the other issue that i have a major concern with is that the vehicle stalls during low speed turning. if at an intersection and attempting a turn, the vehicle may stall and cause an accident. this has happened to me more than ten (10) times in the eight months that we have owned the vehicle. this too is a major concern as it can also cause serious injury or worse to not only myself, wife, young children, and others that may become involved in an accident if it where to happen! i have reported the issues to dodge and their response to me is to have the vehicle diagnosed. i do plan on doing this however, while researching the issues online, i have found a many numbers of vehicles (same year, make, and model) with the exact same issues. this leads me to believe that this is not isolated and should be cause for safety concerns throughout the nation for the vehicles/owners. *tr

My 2005 dodge durango has been spitting back fuel every time i refuel for the last 5-6 months. i took it to a local dodge dealer for 90k service & asked them to check out what was causing the problem. service manager called me & i was told i needed to replace the gas tank for over $700. i did not authorize the work. there was no mention of the recall or any other complaints about this problem. i hung up & got online. after a few minutes of searching the internet i see this is a serious issue & i am not alone. it seems to me a recall of only a small number of the effected vehicles is no solution. i intend to contact dodge & complain. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel was spewed from the fuel filler neck while refueling the vehicle. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly) and was advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the manufacturer however, offered the liability of a portion of the repair costs. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 61,000.

While fueling the vehicle, gas leaks out onto the undercarriage without exiting out of the top of the fuel tank filler neck and well before the tank is full. it is as though something internal to the fuel neck is restricting the incoming fuel and forcing it out. the leaking only occurs during fueling. the fuel never comes out of the top of the filler neck, the only indicator of a problem to the person who is fueling the vehicle is a large pool of gas under the vehicle and the strong smell of gasoline. *ln

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when he filled the fuel tank, the fuel would spit back out. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the failure was caused by the fuel inlet link. the contact referenced recall 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) but was informed that the vehicle was not included. the current and failure mileages were 34,500.

I own a 2005 dodge durango - every time i fill-up at the gas station, fuel spurts out when the pump finishes. *tr

Fuel tank overflows every time i fill the tank. there is a recall for the 2005 dodge durango for this problem however my vin # is not included in the recall. chrysler states i must pay to have the vehicle diagnosed which is non refundable. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the fuel would leak onto the ground while fueling. both the dealer and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 100,200. updated 02/22/12 *bf updated 03/01/12

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that gasoline would spill when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. the contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told to take the vehicle to the dealer. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the inlet check valve and the fuel tank would need to be replaced. the manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, storage tank: assembly) and would provide no assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the failure mileage was 60,000 and 70,000. the current mileage is 80,000. updated 04/19/12*lj

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall intermittently while driving at various speeds. when the vehicle stalled, the interior lights and windshield wipers would fail if in use. however, the radio continued to operate as normal. in addition, when the contact attempted to refuel the vehicle, gasoline would spew back out and onto the ground. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 63,628 and the failure mileage was 48,000.

When filling the vehicle, gas overflows. when vehicle was taken to dealer for repair because of the recall for this problem, consumer was told that the vin number for that vehicle was not included in the recall and that they would only repair it at the consumer's expense. *tr

I like many 2005 durango owners when filling up my gas tank. i have gas spray out the filler neck once the gas pump cuts off. it sprays gas everywhere and causes an unsafe situation plus the environmental issue of pouring gas on the ground. dodge will only cover certain vin's even though every model is affected. it is a $700 repair at the dealer and dodge know it is an issue. see a video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?nr=1&feature=endscreen&v=fs5u63cn-ii. *tr

Purchase 2005 durango 3 weeks ago. filled the gas tank 4 times and each time gas shoots out of the gas tank after fueling stops. gas went on the vehicle, ground and person fueling. it doesn't matter how soon you stop fuelling. contact chrysler regarding the issue and known similar recall for other vin numbers. was told it wasn't covered and i would need to take it to a dealership and pay for diagnostic fee and repair fee. did state that it may be covered under warranty that we purchased, but would have to pay 200 deductible. i explained that we didn't want to pay for a dodge defect and was told that it wasn't a defect. i explained that many other vehicles - that weren't a part of the recall- were having this issue and that it should be looked into before someone catches on fire or catches a gas station on fire. i was ignored and told that if i wanted it fixed, i should take it to a dealership and be happy i have a warranty to pay for it. *tr

My 2005 dodge durango sprays gas out of the gas tank everytime i fill up my car. despite that fact that there is a open recall on the fuel tank filter for the 2005 dodge durango, chrysler/dodge said that my suv does not qualify for the recall since it has a different part number. therefore, even though my car exhibits the exact same issue as the outstanding recall and also presents a significant safety issue chrysler/dodge is unwilling to include my suv and countless others in the recall and instead is saying that i need to fix the safety issue and the charge is $1665.00. *tr

When filling up the gas tank, the tank overflows and spews out gasoline prior to the gas pump shutting off. this occurs when manually down the trigger on the gas pump and waiting for the pump to shut off automatically. i did not lock the gas pump trigger into place and was not attempting to "top off" the gas tank. my understanding is that some 2005 durangos were recalled because of a similar issue. my vehicle shows no recalls but clearly has a safety issue relating to the gas tank.

Gas over flow from 2005 dodge durango. *tr

When filling up the gas tank, the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not function properly. it does not close and gas always spills out. i am afraid that gas spills out while driving. at times, with the keys in the ignition, the car will turn off by itself if i am moving slowly. i bought this truck in 2006. the first year, i brought the car in for stalling on its own. the dealership told me that there was nothing that they could do and the car did not have a problem. i brought the truck in about three times for the same problem and every time, nothing was resolved. after that i did not have the money or the time to continue bringing the truck in for a problem that the dealership was saying they could not find. over the years, i have just dealt with this truck stalling on its own. about 1 year ago, i noticed that the car started spilling out gas if it was filled up. i did not know there was a recall until i researched the problem online. i found that there was a recall. i contact chrysler customer care, they looked up my vin # and told me that they did not have any recalls listed on my particular truck. i explained to the representative that my car had a problem with the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve and that gas spilled out. i told them that i was afraid that gas was spilling from the tank while i was driving. the representative told me that there was nothing that they could do and told me to take the truck to the dealership. i am afraid that if i take the truck to the dealership i will be responsible for all of the expensive charges to fix this problem. i do not have the money for this since i am paying $700 a month for a truck that should never have been financed at that amount in the first place and is not worth the amount still owed. *ln the consumer stated she was involved in a head-on-collision on april 25, 2011 and the air bags did not deploy. also, the rear wiper made a whistling noise. ...
