Dodge durango 2005, recently has begun to blow gas out of the tank after filling. every time i fill the tank a large amount of gasoline explodes from the tank and constitutes a nuisance and a serious hazard due to the gas spill. *tr
My 2002 dodge durango shuts off while driving, this happens everytime i drive this vehicle, therefore will not take it on any highways or were there is alot of traffic, once it shuts off i have no steering or brakes and have been very close to being in accidents. this is going to kill someone and i hope and pray to god this is not what it is going to take for dodge to do a recall. it is just totally unbelievable that dodge would not look into this and risk a lawsuit from somebody being seriously being injured or even killed. i have had my vehicle to a dodge dealer, to several other mechanics and noone can tell me what the problem is. please help!!! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. when the gas tank was filled, the contact noticed that fuel would spill back out. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they replaced a few parts; however, the contact does not remember which ones specifically. the failure was not corrected and the repair caused the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. the dealer stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the failure and current mileages were 69,000.
Please reference nhtsa action number : rq08005. this complaint is for a 2005 dodge durango , when filling gas tank, and at the time tank is full, the back flow valve of the filler nozzle seems to be stuck open and does not close. this causes fuel to back flow out of the tank and under the wheel well and onto the ground. also it has been observed that gas sprays out a high pressure. i have been totally soaked by the fuel back flow and the fuel contact on my skin/clothing caused irritation . i have seen the problem 3 times and now have the suv in the dealer shop for repair. this issue seems to be related to nhtsa recall no. 05v-034, but the dealership insists that my vehicle is not included in this recall even though my vehicle was manufactured 10/2005 and obviously has the defect reported by the recall. since the vehicle is now out of warranty, but only has 26k miles on it, the dealer told me it would be repaired via "goodwill" (but only after i threatened to take the dealership to small claims court over the issue...... really, dealers need to know that this problem is still happening and should formally recall all year 2005 vehicles. i was pretty lucky not to get sprayed in the face with fuel. is it necessary to wait for injuries before taking action? *tr updated 12/09/08. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact observed fuel leaking from the lower portion of the fuel tank. the failure occurred without warning. whenever he fills up the fuel tank, gasoline sprays back out of the tank. the gas nozzle stopped when the tank was full, but gasoline still sprayed out of the tank. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap), although the failures were identical. the vehicle is in the process of being taken to the authorized dealer for possible repair. the vin was not accepted by the system. the failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 91,000. updated 6/29/09 *cn the consumer stated when the gas tank was filled up, gas would shoot back out. the consumer stated he experienced the same problem as stated in 05v034000. updated 06/30/09.*jb
From time vehicle purchased it would overflow gas when trying to fill tank, recently ( approx. 93000 miles)a strong odor of gas is smelt when standing by drivers side door and also on floor in passenger area.it also appears that there may be a fuel leak coming from the top of the tank. talked with dodge and they are saying this is not a recall issue and i will have to pay for repairs. research i have done on the internet shows that hundreds if not thousands of durango owners are having the same problems and dodge says the recall does not apply to their vehicles, wrong serial numbers. obviously the recall should be extended to all 2005 durangos with this problem. *tr
When filling the vehicle with gas, when the pump clicks off gas then overflows out of the tank and onto the ground. this is the same problem as covered in recall # 05v460000 but the vin on the vehicle is not included. there is also an ongoing defect investigation with nhtsa action # rq08005. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while placing fuel in the vehicle, gasoline spilled out onto the ground. the contact took the vehicle to the repair shop and the mechanic stated that the filler pipe neck did not close, which allowed the fuel to spill. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline storage tank assembly filler pipe and cap). she was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 86,000. updated 11/14/08 *cn updated 11/18/08. *jb
When filling up my 2005 dodge durango, the pump will automatically shut off when full and then gas squirts/shoots out of the fill tube. this has been happening since october 2008, i checked for recalls on the chrysler website and it stated that there are no recalls for my vehicle. although i did find a recall for my vehicle under this recall vins ending 5f500001 to 5f535219, my vin is 5f503046 which clearly falls in that range. after searching the internet and finding so many other complaints i felt as though i should file a complaint. i am going to call the dealership to see if they are willing to fix the problem under the recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when attempting to refuel the vehicle, fuel would spill back onto the ground because the check valve would not engage. the dealer advised the contact that the vehicle had not been included in nhtsa recall number: 05v034000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) and offered no further assistance. the manufacturer was aware of the failure and advised him to file a complaint. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 70,000. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Fuel overfills when topping off the gas tank on my 2005 dodge durango. since i bought it two years ago i have researched online and seen a recall but when i contacted chrysler they said mine doesn't fall within the vin number recall. this occurs everytime i put gas then i have to clean up the mess. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when refueling the vehicle, gasoline would spew back out from the filler tube. the fuel gauge would also display inaccurate fuel levels. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) and any repairs would be at the contacts expense. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 101,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that the shut off valve in her fuel tank did not function correctly. she noticed the issue on three different occasions. when placing fuel into the vehicle and using the automatic device that supports the pump handle, gasoline would spill out and splash back because the valve would not shut off. the contact felt that this was a safety hazard. she took the vehicle to the dealer and referenced nhtsa campaign id numbers 09v003000 and 05v034000. the dealer stated that they would check after the oil change. after the oil change, the dealer stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced, but it was not covered under warranty. the manufacturer has not been notified. the current mileage was 56,957 and failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact was refueling the vehicle as fuel began spewing from the filler tube. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. there were no prior warnings of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
At around 38000 miles we started having issues with the gas spilling out of the filler tube of our 2005 dodge durango when the take gets near full when refueling. at first we thought it was that particular pump, but we have had the same issue at several different gas stations. there is a recall for what seems to be the same issue, but according to the dodge web site, our 2005 durango is not part of the recall. the dealer wants around $700 to replace the entire fuel tank. this is an extreme hazard as gas spills all over the ground and me when refueling. this is a well known issue and dodge should be held accountable for this problem before someone is seriously injured. please help! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that after refueling, the fuel would spew out from the fuel tank onto the ground due to a faulty fuel tank inlet check valve. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) but the contact's vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I have a fuel spit back problem w/ my 2005 dodge durango that was manufactured 05/05. it appears to be the same issue that is listed as a recall on the same make and model year vehicle that was manufactured prior to mine. when filling the tank, gas will blow back out of the filler neck with substantial force. gasoline is speed over the side of the vehicle and ground. the first time this happened i was covered in gasoline. i called chrysler to ask about the issue after reading the recall for the earlier model year vehicles. the representative that i spoke to advised that it was very possible that my vehicle, being built late in the model year, may have had the faulty valve installed during assembly of the vehicle. however, it would not be covered under the recall. this concerns me because several other vehicles may have this problem and the owner's like myself, cannot afford to pay for it. i feel this matter needs to be looked into further for vehicles manufactured after the specified dates in 09v003000. other than skin discomfort, i was not injured. this incident occurs every time the vehicle if filled! *tr
1-2 possible concerns- #1- (5.7 v.8 engine issue) as many others have complained the vehicle stalls and quits on sudden stops, and when making turn. after the engine shuts off - it can be restarted - but no engine code is generated. the dealer does not know the specific cause, but cites numerous things that it can be - wanting me to spend $$ to investigate each one and replace parts. the service department is not aware of any issues with the durango and engine stall. the issue is unpredictable and nearly impossible to duplicate - even though it has happened a dozen or so times in the last 2 years. on several of this occasions i (and my family of 5) have been placed in life threatening situations and i have had issues with controlling the vehicle due to a loss of power steering and brake control. this issue may be related to the next complaint. it seems strange that this on many occasions happens right after a fill up. and - even though my vin was recalled in 2005 and fixed - gas still sprays out the fuel filler and any gas station when you fill the vehicle up fully. to get around this - my vehicle cannot be filled all the way up. this issue is easy to duplicate - but my dealer states that the work done in 2005 should have fixed this and that any other issue are not a warranty/recall issues. again - the dealer wants to charge me $$ to test and try to find an answer since according to them this problem has already been fixed.
When filling up our 2005 dodge durango with gas, gasoline spurts out the tank when it is full. there is a recall, but the dealer says our car is not covered. this is dangerous. how is our car not covered also? it has been happening for over a year, since the car had about 30,000 miles on it. from the recall, it is the "fuel tank filler inlet check valve". *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that after refueling the fuel tank to full capacity, the fuel would spill back out. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that they would make adjustments to the fuel tank. the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was contacted and they advised him to take the vehicle to a second dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. updated 12/16/11 *bf updated 12/23/11
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact noticed that there was no check valve on the fuel tank filler. therefore, if there is a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source, it could result in a fire. the dealer stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the contact would have to pay $600 for the repair. the vehicle has not yet been repaired. the manufacturer did not provide any assistance. the failure and current mileages were 84,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact has experienced failures with the fuel system in her vehicle since the date of purchase. when filling her vehicle with gasoline, she noticed that a large amount of fuel comes back out of the gas tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and inspected by a technician, who determined that the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve was failing. the vehicle has not been repaired and the estimated repair cost would be a $200 deductible. upon further investigation, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id numbers 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) and 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that because her vin was not included in the recalls, no compensation would be provided. the failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 44,000.
When filling the fuel tank the gas pump will stop pumping, within seconds nearly a gallon of gas will pour out of the tank. the gas not only covers the vehicle but has sprayed me nearly hitting my eyes. the gas poured all over the grounds of the gas station requiring me to report it to the clerk. this happens every time i decide to fill my tank. it has gotten to a point in which i fear to fill my tank. i researched to see if there were any recalls on the vehicle which i did find. after calling chrysler i was told my vin number did not apply to this recall and they were not liable until more vehicles were reported. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while refueling the vehicle and removing the fuel nozzle, fuel shoots back at the contact, covering her in gasoline. the first occurrence was on march 11, 2008, which is also the purchase date. there had been no further occurrences. the failure mileage was 30,215 and current mileage was 31,586.
The vehicle stalls out at low speeds. so when you are at a stop light or slow down to turn or are in a parking lot, it stalls. when this happens, you can't steer because that only works with the car running. this started right after the 3 year warranty was over and has continued through today. they also didn't fix the recall item and i have fuel spills every time i set the nozzle on automatic and it is supposed to shut off. it does not shut off because the gauge is defective. now i have a spot under the fuel fill that was eaten away by gas and it is now rusty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel began to leak from the vehicle through the fuel filler neck while the contact was refueling the vehicle. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was refueled to capacity. the manufacturer was notified and the contact was told that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 24,000 and the current mileage was 35,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. whenever the contact fills the gas tank, gasoline sprays out of the tank. the gas nozzle stops when the tank was full, but gasoline still sprayed out of the tank. through research, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the dealer was unable to assist. dodge stated that the recall did not apply to his vin due to the manufactured date. the contact believes that if he is experiencing the same failure, the vehicle should be included in the recall. the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 55,000. updated 09/16/08 *bf updated 09/22/08. *jb
Upon filling the gas tank, the shut off valve does not close when tank is full thus spilling fuel down the side of vehicle onto the ground. checked recall database and there is a recall (nhtsa action # rq08005) so i contacted the manufacture and was told that my vehicle was not built in the plants in question with the recall so they told me that they were not replacing my gas tank or filler neck, but once a week when i fuel the vehicle gasoline spills down the side onto the ground and i'm concerned that it will ignite. *tr
I was contacted by daimler chrysler, stating my 2005 dodge durango was the subject of a recall, and to schedule an appointment with our dealer. i scheduled the appoint for the recall and for additional maintenance. i investigated the recalls, and found 2: a potential instrument panel failure, and a problem with fuel spilling out of the inlet during refueling. i scheduled the appointment, and off the durango on 2-26-08. the next day, mike (from our dealer) called and said that the recall had already been performed. he stated that daimler chrysler sometimes made mistakes like this with recalls. he also said that the only recall the durango was eligible for was for the issue with the instrument panel, and the the recall for the issue with the inlet valve did not apply to vehicles made after 10-12-2004 - ours was made 10-15-05. i explained to mike that the durango had the identical problem that was the subject of the recall. just a few weeks ago, my wife was doused with gas as she filled the durango - gas escapes frequently when filling up. mike said that there was nothing he could do, except perform the repair - the exact same thing the recall was for, but at my expense, and that i should contact daimler chyrysler to see if they would do anything for me. i contacted daimlerchrysler twice after i found documentation on the nhtsa website, from daimlerchrysler to nhtsa, stating that all durangos from vin 5f500001 to 5f535219 would be recalled. the vin on my durango is 5f529730 - well within the recall range. the letter i found on nhtsa's website (dated 3-18-2005) from stephan j speth (director, vehicle compliance) to ms. kathleen c. demeter (acting associate administrator, safety assurance) at nhtsa, indicating a "date range" for affected vehicles. daimler chrylser assigned a reference number (17265274), but stated there was nothing they would do to correct the problem. i believe they have a responsibility to perform the recall. nhtsa campaign number: 05v-034. *tr
When i fill up with gas at any gas station, and the tank is full, the automatic cut-off doesn't close in time in the gas tank causing gasoline to spew/spray out of the gas tank nozzle dousing me, my vehicle, and creating a pool of gasoline on the ground underneath the gas tank nozzle. this has occurred in the last three months. when i did research, i realized that dodge had a recall on my year model of my vehicle. when i attempted to get it fixed on 02/11/08, dodge advised me that although there is a recall on this problem, my vehicle wasn't covered because my vin didn't fall under that recall. dodge has refused to repair this severe safety hazard unless i pay for the repairs. i was quoted by bankston dodge of frisco, tx that it would cost $717.00 for parts and labor to repair this problem that they are aware of due to the recall they have issued on this problem on this specific vehicle. *tr
2005 dodge durango fuel check valve problem. gas comes back out of the fuel tank when filling the vehicle. i've been drenched with gas many times, lucky there was no static discharge in the area! i was hit the eye with fuel on more than one occasion. chrysler knows this is a safety issue and has one recall and an extension of that recall but refuses to warranty my vehicle stating that my vin number is not effected! obviously, i have the same problem as the other vehicles covered under warranty. it's a safety issue and with 2 young children i'm even more concerned. the dealer who diagnosed the problem also agrees this is the same defect as the other durangos covered by the recall. chrysler is just ignoring the fact that more vehicle are effect because the initial investigation is closed but does need to re-open, it's a safety issue! the date below is not correct, this has been occurring for well over a year but it is getting worse. *tr
Fuel spit-back during refueling: when filling up vehicle, gas backflows out of gas tank at the end of fueling. has happened many times at different gas stations. there is a recall on durango of same year and vintage, but my vin not included in recall and chrysler refuses to accept responsibility for design flaw. *tr
Fuel tank overflows and does not shut gas pump off when the tank is full. everytime we fill the gas tank up, gas spews out violently all over the ground and onto the person fueling the vehicle. seems pretty dangerous to me. gas tank recall is partially in effect for certain vin numbers but not all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated took twenty minutes to fill the fuel tank and the fuel continued to spill back out from the filler tube. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that they were not aware of the type of failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
There was no incident that led to this happening. it seemed to begin for no reason. whenever i fill my gas tank, if i do not stop the pump before the tank is full, it overflows. this happens any time i fill the tank full. a significant amount of gasoline spills when this happens. dodge issued a recall for this exact problem on 26,000 other 2005 dodge durangos, but refuses to include my vehicle in this recall #05v-034. i have no repaired the problem. *tr
Gas tank spurts gas at me when filling as tank is full just before the nozzle clicks off, gas spills down the side of car and onto the ground every time the vehicle is filled up. has been happening for 1 year. *tr
when the tank was filled with gas and the auto shut off on the dispenser engaged, gas would spew out of the vehicle under very high pressure. . the fueling problem is one that confounds me. if you allow the fuel dispenser to pump until it automatically stops, you will be greeted with a high pressure spray of fuel that will cover you and anyone standing on the opposite side of the pump. it has been this way for several years. it seems that there are many recalls for check valves in fuel tanks, but none of them cover my vin number. the dodge place would be happy to repair the problem for just over $700 according to my quote, an amount that unwitting fuel customers on the opposite side of the pumps from me might think worthwhile. on more than one occasion, my wife and i have been on the receiving end of that fine fuel spray, only to wonder why dodge will not fix an obvious safety problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that fuel escaped from the filler neck when refueling the vehicle. as of january 4, 2008, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the failure mileage was 95,000 and current mileage was 108,000. the consumer stated would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the repairs at the tune of $677.43. the dealer stated replaced rear pinion seal. updated 01/29/08 *tr
Fuel spilling out of filler pipe when gas tank gets full. *tr
Bought car in 2007 had to replace one key because of electronics at 180 dollars each, 2009 changed car battery had to reset keys at 80 dollars, 2011 keys need replaced again at 130 dollars each. bad design so they can keep fleasing you for money. also had fuel tank replaced, brake lines rubbed together causing hole in line and loss of brakes, dust cover on drivers seat belt broke off, screws in back tail gate keep loosening and falling out. *tr
When pumping gas, something in the gas tank will not shut off the gas pumping into the tank. if you are attempting to fill the tank, a large amount of gas spills everywhere including on the person pumping gas, on the car and all over the ground as the gas station. this is not alleviated from constantly pumping it by hand instead of the automatic. our dealership said they have seen several of these complaints. the only way to correct is replacing the entire gas tank. i am concerned about the risk of fire due to the amount of gas just from filling tank. this has occurred since we purchased our used vehicle. *tw
Chrysler has recalled 2005 durango's made during a certain time for fuel component failures. (recall id # 09v003000) even though i did not receive a recall notice my vehicle is experiencing the same problem and was diagnosed with the same problem. however, chrysler states that my problem is a result of component failure and they will not assist in any way in correcting the problem. the dealer will not assist me except to offer me a 20% discount on parts and labor. my son-in-law's 2005 dodge truck also has the same problem as well as a 2007 chrysler aspen purchased by a friend of mine. i believe this problem is way more wide spread than chrysler is willing to admit. the problem is that when i auto fill my gas tank, when the auto shut off kicks in, gas gushes out of the tank, runs down the car and puddles on the ground. i have taken a video of this and will be posting it to youtube. if you would like a copy of the video, please contact me. this problem started roughly 2 years after i purchased the vehicle. *tr
