Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2004 Dodge Durango

Any and all times the battery cables are removed from the battery for routine maintenance on a 2004 dodge durango, the airbag light illuminates after reconnection of the battery. the airbag system becomes inoperative and must be recalibrated by a dealer at a cost in excess of $100. this is the 2nd time this has occurred. *tr

My well-maintained 2004 dodge durango slt began doing something bizarre a few months ago at about 120,000 miles. this has 4.7l v8 and the awd-4hi-4lo 2-speed transfer case. the "service 4wd" and the traction control light began flashing, and it felt like the transfer case was stuck in 4hi with the tires grabbing on a turn. the selector knob on the dash would not function. i brought the truck to my mechanic who checked the function of the transfer case motor, inspected the motor and wiring, and changed the transfer case fluid again. i called my local chrysler dealer and they advised that they would need to change the transfer case motor. the motor costs $1190 plus two hours labor and two quarts of atf+4 fluid. i brought the truck back to my mechanic and he said there is nothing wrong with the motor or the transfer case or the dash selector knob. he said he believes this is a control module or programming issue. i got a third opinion at my local lee myles. they concurred that there is nothing wrong with the transfer case motor and there must be some issue with the computer, programming, or one or more of the control modules. the truck continues to do the same thing. the malfunction condition exists approximately 65% of the time. i can't afford to bring to the dealer now and spend over $1300 for a repair that i do not think will correct the problem. i have read on many message boards that this seems to be a very common issue with 2004-2006 durangos and changing the motor, or the switch does not help the situation. i also notice that at times when i open the doors or unlock the doors with the key fob, i can hear the transfer case motor cycling. this seems to be an electrical or programming issue. it is very difficult to turn the wheels at low speeds when the malfunction condition exists and i fear this is straining the transmission. *tr

Bought this 04 durango with a hemi, in 2010. it has always had a problem with running rough or stalling after/during rain. something is getting wet? dealership tried to fix it a couple of times. it works fine after it dries. also there was a recall in 2004 for positive battery cable failure possibly causing fire. this vehicle was taken in to have the repair for this recall (#d40) in 2007. the same battery cable is now failing and is in the shop for repair. the battery cables are not available after market so they have been ordered from dodge. there is no provision in the recall to repair when the thing fails even after it was fixed. it started having all kinds of electrical issues so i brought it to repair shop (not dealership). dealership says they can't do anything. i did call daimler/chrysler recall center and they were very nice, told me to send in all the information to them for possible reimbursement. the recall is good for 10 years, and i believe it should be investigated further. this is 9 years later, but evidently the recall repair has failed. *tr

Truck cut out would not restart had stopped at an intersection needed to roll to the side of said intersection with no power steering brakes or engine. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that several hours after parking the vehicle for the night, the vehicle automatically powered on without the key being in the ignition and all of the lights in the instrument panel illuminated. after inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that smoke and burning fumes were emitting through the vents. the contact stated that in order to turn off the vehicle, the battery had to be disconnected and replaced as a temporary remedy. the remedy failed to repair the problem. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician stated that there was a leak in the moon roof and water seeping in, causing an electrical short. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 90,000.

Went to the repair facility to have car looked at code p2302 came up when checking the computer was informed that would need a new pcm replaced with a new factory one and about 3 weeks ago light came back on and when trying to clear it the light blinks and just stays on both times the code p2302 came on the ignition coil for that cylinder was cracked and the plastic was melted. *tr

Goes in and out of 4 wheel drive by itself. *tr

When the multifunction turn signal switch is used, the vehicle intermittently activates the opposite direction instrument cluster light and exterior turn signal lamps. the exact same problem, symptoms and part number involved for the 2004 dodge durango slt exhibits same symptoms and involves the same part that nhtsa action number pe08059 report date of november 12, 2012 references which has resulting in an factory extended recall for dodge/ ram 3500 which use the exact same turn signal multi switch part number involved in the above stated recall. with countless reports of this multiswitch incorrectly illuminating the opposite intended turning direction. this defective switch creates a great danger and potential disaster for many on the roadway. *tr

The electrical portion started after i first purchased the vehicle. the issue worsened after someone broke into the vehicle. the car wouldn't stay charged, and i ended up needing a tow every other week. my car insurance went up to $550.00 a month. i was always stranded. the problem was worse in the rain. sometimes the car would cut off while driving, it did it once on the highway and i saw a semi coming down the highway and i thought i was dead. i got it started and pulled over to the shoulder because i didn't have enough speed to get out the way. eventually it couldn't' start anymore. i had it sitting for a year as i kept making loan payments. i fixed one thing after the other...thinking it was the problem...the car would start and die a few days later. this last time i changed the starter for the third time. a rod was thrown and the engine is locked. i wasn't even driving the vehicle, it started after 3rd starter was installed and a crunch noise sounded a few minutes later while trying to give the battery some juice. i towed it into another shop and they confirmed the engine is gone. i had to pay full coverage insurance because it's financed and a car note for a truck that's gone. i've searched online and dodge knows and hasn't taken responsibility. involuntary repossession would be futile because after the fee for repo, towing, storage..i will owe more than what i have left to pay, $5000.00 and still not even scrap metal. i've read so many discussion board post, consumer blogs on this model and 'm floored. i guess the complaints are recent because one you get to like 70,00 mile you are toast. i don't drive to work, only on the weekends and i take good care of my truck and now i have nothing but payments and metal that looks pretty on the outside. *tr

Wife was driving on highway and car completely shut down, engine, all power. no power steering, no power brakes, nothing. happened multiple times. last time, shut down on highway doing 60mph with multiple children in car. *tr

My 2004 dodge durango limited stalls at slow speeds and when coming to a stop and also while making turns. have had at dealership and they cannot find out what is causing this since there are no engine codes. vehicle is becoming very dangerous to drive due to this issue. durango has a 5.7 hemi engine. why is there no recalls on this issue when it involves over four years of production? are we waiting on a incident like toyota had before we react? this has happened to durango's with mileage low to high. please help us now on this issue before it happens to you. thanks !

I have a 2004 dodge durango slt, 2-wheel drive, 8 cylinder, hemi magnum. my problem is that whenever it rains or i go through a car wash or it snows, my car acts like it wants to cut off when i come to a stop. it gasps for air. sometimes it does cut off, but it quickly starts back again. once it stops raining, my car acts normal again. i've taken it to a dodge dealership three times for the same problem, and every time the technician cannot find anything wrong with it. he even drove it in the rain. the answer seems so simple, but no one can seem to find anything wrong with my vehicle. now i'm afraid to drive it when it rains. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that whenever water came in contact with the vehicle such a rain, driving through a deep puddle or going through a car wash for instance, the vehicle would stall. the failure was recurring. the mechanic diagnosed that the air temperature sensor and the electric throttle needed to be replace. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. the exterior lights and the radio then immediately became inoperable. the driver and passenger's side doors and rear hatch also became inoperable. the contact was unable to exit the vehicle when the failure occurred. the vehicle was not taken for diagnosis of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Water is getting under the cowl and onto my motor. i have taken my 2004 hemi durango to several shops/dealers and the water is causing all kinds of problems. the cylinders are misfiring, some of the metal parts under the hood have rusted irreparably (ie. motor heat guards), the windshield gets ice on the inside of the vehicle, my headlights blink on and off while driving, the heat works only sometimes due to the wires under the passenger side dash getting wet, and this water getting through is also causing my car to stall or almost stall every time it rains or take it through a car wash. this water is causing electrical problems. it is also rusting horribly fast near the wheel wells and on the back trunk hatch. within only 2 weeks of cold weather i now have a solid hole from the rust. why can't they recall some parts and fix this? the dealer is no help, they only want to charge me huge amounts of money to repair problems that were factory defects. *tr

My passenger and i were sitting at a red light. the check engine of my 2004 dodge durango limited (5.7ltr) came on, then the battery light came on and both of those lights started to flicker. there was a loud squeal and a pop, then the engine stalled and i felt the brake pedal fall straight to the floor. white smoke started to emerge from the engine compartment, which quickly turned a thick black color. i couldn't even see through the smoke, as it was so dense. i grabbed my phone and proceeded to call roadside assistance to get the vehicle off of the road (the vehicle was blocking a lane of a major highway in my town). i started to smell burning plastic and thought, "am i on fire?". my passenger instructed me to lower my window because another driver was yelling something and making hand gestures. when i tried to use the windows, i noticed that i had lost all power. in a panic i opened the door and instructed my passenger to do the same. that was when we heard what the other drivers were screaming. "get out of the truck, it's on fire!". when i turned to get out of the vehicle, that was when i saw the flames flowing up the windshield about 4" long. we jumped out of the vehicle and ran across the road to the curb, turned to view the vehicle, seen that it was a large fire and decided to run about 200-300 feet away from it. just in case it exploded. the firemen were there in under a minute, but the vehicle was engulfed in flames in about 30 to 45 seconds. i have a large family and it's a good thing they were not all with me, as is the case 90% of the time. i do not know if i would've had time to get three small children out of their carseats in time. this could've ended much worse than it did. *tr

When driving through a puddle, the engine stalls and the power steering goes out. i was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection for 2-3 minutes until i was able to restart the car. *kb

At 93000 miles wheel indicator light stays on replaced tire at normal time to change, but light does not go out. also having other inside problems, engine is making bad noises, wipers don't work half the time, air conditioner not blowing cool air even having it filled with freeon, center panel over heats. air bag light come on and off while driving with no one else in truck. *kb

Needing more info on just what does the gas cap do. so far i've had my engine light come on, and was told it was because the gas cap wasn't tightened. my latest discovery, i got in my vehicle, turned on the ignition, and the car eventually died, with no further turnover. i got out of the vehicle, thought of checking the gas cap, made a few turns, and got back into my vehicle, and, it turned over without difficulty. what other features does this item have that i should be aware of? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that the instrument panel lights started flashing as the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that she had problems starting the vehicle before the failure occurred therefore, she had to jump started the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the battery cable shorted out, melting the egr tube due to the cluster being program incorrectly. as a result, the battery cable and the egr tube needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v578000 (electrical system:battery:cables). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 104,000.

While driving, vehicle just shuts off, has happen before now getting worse and scared to drive my family in it, i've had the same four codes pop up and after research on the internet it seems to be the (pcm) power control modular. i've seen nothing but complaints, but seems to be going no where. i took it to the dealer and they couldn't find nothing wrong. as soon as i leave the dealers lot it shut off and i had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to start. i'm afraid to drive it on the interstate cause if it shuts off, i lose power steering and it's hard to control going at those speeds. can someone please do something, this is very dangerous. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph the horn began to sound, the door locks began to unlock and lock. smoke began to rise from the dashboard, and one of the engine pistons came through the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to her home where it remained parked. the contact noticed there were holes within the engine and the piston casings were shattered. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed they would not honor the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel), due to the contacts original dealer being out of business. the failure mileage was 114,050.

I purchased the vehicle in 2009, within a 1 years, i noticed while driving during a heavy downpour the car would shake and sometimes stall out. i took it to the dealer in 2011 and they replaced the intake gaskets. i am now realing that this seems to be a common problem and should have had a recall on it.

I own a 2004 dodge durango and let me tell you the problems i have had with it!! the radiator, throttle position sensor and brakes. the biggest problem is when it rains. the truck just shuts off, no matter where you are when this happens. you could be on the highway going 65mph and it just shuts down. i thank god that i haven't gotten in to an accident yet. it is so dangerous to drive it like that not knowing if when you re out and its starts to rain i head for home because i am so worried. i don't even let me teenage daughter borrow it in cause she is out and god forbid it starts to rain. when it shuts down there are no brakes no nothing. someone has to do something about this. there are so many complaints and no recalls on this part. that is insane!!!! someone somewhere is going to get killed!!! dodge - you have to do something!!!!! i will never buy another dodge again!!! *tr

I have a 2004 dodge durango hemi 5.7 with 62k miles. i maintained the car well. i have two major problems: 1) while driving on the highway the checking engine light and the lighting rod light comes on and the car jumps out of overdrive and remains in 3rd or 4th gear. my temporary fix would be to pull over, turn off the car wait 3 seconds then restart. the check engine light stays on but the lighting bolt goes off and the car is able to shift back into high gear. 2) recently the while driving the oil light comes and the car stalls leading me to stare the car off the road without any power. this is extremely dangerous!! i have no fix to date. *tr

I have a 2004 dodge durango that i have only had for 2 months well we had been driving through a bad rain on the highway doin 55 and all of a sudden the car started to sputter and shake i went from 55 miles a hour to 10 in 30 feet and almost got creamed by a tractor trailer with my kids in the car no less, well i had it towed to the dealer the said it was do to the rain and told me it would be 600 dollars to fix because it was general mat. not covered in our warranty. so here me and my wife and kids go out in the storm. pretty sucky for a dealer to do. so we made it home i got on line there are numerous sites about this problem so i call dodge they say i'm the only one that has called in on this problem yeah right. what happens is the coil packs and wires get wet and arch and causes a miss fire i cant even wash my car that's how bad it is. me and the other owners want to know why it hasn't been a recall???or does someone have to die first. this is a major problem and needs to be addressed thankyou. *tr

Purchased my hemi dodge durango 2004, with approx. 90,000 miles on it. only 20,000 miles into the purchase, turning from a complete stop accelerating into a 40 mph. lane at approx. 25-35 mph, (clunk) after hearing a loud thump, car would not move. towed to experienced maintenance, contacted my local chrysler maintenance dept., only option to resolve my matter was to replace my now dead 110,000 mile engine with a re built engine at a purchase price of $2,500/approx.70,000 miles. approx. 15,000 miles and only local driving (3 miles tops/per day), i am experienceing faults which lead me to believe, i will experience this unfortunate problem again. vehicle also, turns off in heavy rain, air bags alerts are faulty, stereo eqipment faulty, electical seating faulty. please advise. *tr

2004 dodge durango slt 5.7 litre. 85k mikles after driving on highway for at least 2-3 hours, check engine and electronic throtlle control warning lights come one. happens everytime on the highway after 2-3 hours. turn off car, wait 2 minutes, and it starts up and only check engine light stays on until it recycles. now, the oil light comes on and the car shuts off in the middle of the road. after waiting 2 or 3 minutes and starting, ti is fine. mechanic says dodge needs to replace ecm / ecu. i see a lot of issue with this car stalling in the middle of the road. this is a dangerous issue that chrysler needs to be held accountable for. *tr

The blend door which controls where heat and ac are directed breaks on this vehicle. im unable to defrost the windows. *tr

On a 2004 dodge durango, when accelerating, the car basically dies and gets no power. the lightning bolt light come on. this is happening during acceleration on the highway causing a huge hazard and is now a safety concern. *tr

While driving my 2004 dodge durango the speedometer functioned erratically and the interior lights would not go out. i pulled off to the side of the road, turned vehicle off, restarted and no change. continued driving home when smoke started coming out from under the dashboard on driver's side only, and the vents on driver's side. immediately turned vehicle off in the middle of the road-ran to a home. he grabbed fire extinguisher-no flames under the hood - he disconnected battery. towed to garage, informed dodge had recall for dashboard fires, towed to dealer who told me defect was in the cluster, that was not part of the recall and no wires in the cluster were melted together, therefore it was not a fire. i called dodge headquarters, received a call on this date from "stacey" stating they had investigated which was to call the dealership and have it reviewed by their legal team and this did not fall under the recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact was driving 65 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated that sporadically, the vehicle would restart itself while coasting. the contact stated that on one occasion, the vehicle stalled and restarted independently, causing the contact to slightly lose control of the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the cam sensor replaced yet it did not remedy the failure. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the contact stated the failure was a serious safety issue that the manufacturer needed to investigate further. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 123,000.

2004 durango shuts off while driving. brake light and abs light up then the entire electrical system goes dead including power steering, brakes, lights, etc. *tr

2004 dodge durango. consumer states problems with interior lights not turning off.*tgw the consumer noticed the interior of the vehicle was on fire. the fire department was called to the scene and put the fire out. the consumer discovered a recall had been issued regarding the instrument panel which could catch fire. she then contacted chrysler and they informed her that what she described sounded like the previous recall. after an investigation was done, the consumer received a letter from chrysler stating they were denying her claim due to failure to have the recall work performed. the consumer stated she never received any recall notices in the mail. the insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. *jb

Purchased new 2004 durango limited 5.7 hemi: after 3 1/2 years and the warranty expiration, when driving in city traffic or highway and it starts raining the engine starts to hesitate violently, to the point it will stop. this occurs if the suv is parked in the rain and the engine is started. i have to wait for a few minutes then the engine will start, but have another heart attack as i drive down the road.. i have had fuse panel, engine wiring, ecm checked and no one can find any problems? the engine recently started missing and my scanner showed p0308 : i removed the spark plug, checked the coil, wiring, injector, spark plug ..all ok and erased the code: the engine has about 79,000 miles on it and is properly maintained and garaged at night.. a stalling engine in inclement weather is a very very dangerous thing that dodge/chrysler seems to be ignoring..the fact is evident that there are hundreds of dodge customers with the same dangerous problem i feel we should not be partners to dodge/chrysler's defective dangerous vehicles and intervention by our federal government based on the number of complaints should be implemented immediately. *tr

Incident occurred on a hot, humid day while traveling down the interstate at 70 mph. without any previous warning, the a/c, blowing at full capacity, just stopped; there was no sound from the a/c motor nor was there a burning odor. approximately 10 minutes later, i turned the a/c back on to find it was blowing extremely cold air on the low setting. i made several stops and everytime the a/c would work; however, the last stop and start i made the a/c did not work. the small town of natchitoches, la does not have a dodge dealership anymore; therefore, i took my vehicle to an independent reputable auto shop in this small town. the mechanic and owner of the shop said that he has replaced about 3 or 4 melted blower motor resistors. is this a common problem or is it a defect that needs to be addressed? it seems as though if something is melting that a fire could start and cause severe damage to the vehicle or worse, death to those in the vehicle. *tr

I bought my durango at a used dealers. it had 56000 miles one owner, 2010, center column panel over heated and you could smell plastic burning. the radio shut off the air condition controls well actually everything was so hot you had to turn off truck to let that center panel cool down before you could turn them off,the next thing i started hearing a bad shifting noise and it banged really loud like from the rear end i assumed. no matter if you were driving slow or fast the truck would downshift and sounding like a rod or something was going to come through the floor. i have all of the maintenance down when was told but this didn't help at the time the downshifting started it was 90,000 miles ,now i am at 93,000 -or 98,000 miles and something is really knocking to me i thought it might have been a fan hitting the radiator but not the case, it also stalls out in the rain and engine wont start until after rain has stopped, it stalls out on sunny days for no reason. you still here a thud noise or it downshifting hard at 15 miles an hour or if you go any speed it continues to down shift shaking the vehicle. the windshield washer button broken off from under the hood the rubber around the hood keeps falling off inside panel lights are shorting out. whats wrong with this truck good care fantastic vehicle love it but it has issues bad issues. not drivable 930000# *kb

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact received a recall notice for recall 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel). the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership for the repair but upon arrival, the contact was informed that the part needed to be ordered; she was told that it was safe to drive the vehicle home. while driving home, the contact noticed smoke emitting from the instrument panel and the vehicle suddenly caught fire. the fire department extinguished the fire; a report was filed. the vehicle was totaled and the insurance company planned to investigate. the contact called the manufacturer who also stated that they would investigate the failure. the current and failure mileages were 107,154.

2004 dodge durango 4x4 w/5.7 hemi engine. catastrophic engine failure: all service performed as per manufacturers specifications at an authorized dodge dealer. turned the ignition to start the truck and heard a loud noise. afterward, the ignition would not turn over and the vehicle made a ticking sound. had the truck towed to the dealer thinking it may be a failed battery. after replacing the battery (the service technician also suspected a battery) the car failed to hold a charge. upon further inspection on the rack the mechanic identified a significant hole in the engine block and a significant crack in the transmission to engine interface. the mechanic deduced that as an engine component blew, the force of which shorted the battery, the starter and cracked the transmission interface. after removing the battery, the terminal to the negative ground was dislodged, the battery was bulging at the sides, and the engine is dead. chrysler motor company says they have no prior knowledge of any problems with hemi engines, and given the car is out of warranty..sorry nothing they can do. this is a problem that exists and is documented on nhtsa and other public forums. the option presented by chrysler is $5500 plus labor for a re-manufactured engine. estimated labor is $1900. the dealer doesn't get much of a break from chrysler for this engine, but gets all the hassle for the shoddy work the company sells. this is a heavy duty truck, an engine should not die at 125,000 miles. *tr

I own a 2004 dodge durango that has a safety recall on it in 2007-2008 for a potential fire in the cluster panel. i experienced a problem with the interior lights and hatch light not going and brought it to a dodge dealer to have it looked at. the service mgr told me that it was the cluster panel (which was the recall on this vehicle) that had to be done again. now chrysler no longer has the part and due the potential fire hazard the vehicle can not be driven (all stated in the earlier g07 safety recall. i have put 10 phone calls into the dodge cust service line and have heard no response from them. please let me know if you can be of any help or perhaps direct me to someone who can. i have 2 small children and this is my only means of transportation. thank you *tr

My 2004 dodge durango (5.7 l) shut off while my husband was driving it. we were making a left hand turn into a parking lot and the truck shut off. he barely missed hitting another car because the steering and the brakes went out. it took 4 tries to get the truck started back up. this has happened to me 2 others times when i was sitting at a red light, thankfully i was not driving. the truck also stalls out everytime there is a heavy rain. the check engine light has not come on so every dealership i've spoken to says that there is nothing that can be done about it, but they are aware there is a problem. i use this truck to drive my children everywhere and i do not understand how this problem has not been addressed. *tr

While driving 2004 dodge durango hemi, hesitates, has died a couple of times. can't steer when dies. i have been reading about dodge durangos. there has been thousands and thousands of these complaints and nothing has been done about it. this is a very dangerous situation, especially when you can't control the vehicle when it dies, while driving. we have not done anything to correct the situation, because no code comes up to tell us what is wrong. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. in september 2009 she noticed smoke coming from the electrical instrument panel. a local mechanic stated that the failure was caused by plastic within the cluster panel. the dealer stated that the failure was repaired per recall 07v092000 electrical system: instrument panel; however, when the vehicle was towed to the dealer they found that the recall was not repaired. after the dealer repaired the instrument cluster the horn and seat belt failed to operate normally. the dealer stated that failure was not caused by the recall repair; therefore, they are not responsible. the failure and the current mileage were not available. updated 12/30/09 *cn also when the consumer unlocked the vehicle manually, the alarm goes off and will not stop. updated 12/30/09

Car sometimes starts without electrical response: turn the ignition on and engine starts but no electricity. driving on interstate 95 and all electricity to all panels and power steering shuts off. this happens often and results in having to coast to stop on the side of the interstate with little control of the vehicle. i have to restart engine several times before electrical response is restored. a tumbler kit was installed under warranty (service at pritchard dodge in ithaca, ny in april of 2005) to reset electrical circuit and it helped but never fixed the problem, but now problem is back and getting worse. i do not have the luxury to buy another car so i have used it, but now is too dangerous. *tr

2004 dodge durango limited hemi engine. for no reason driving down road the suv will stop running at any speed, you lose all power steering and brakes, and are just coasting. happened 4 times in 3 months, "no one at dodge knows why" even though every site on the internet, shows this to be a problem on all the 2004's with no answers from dodge. then after 4th time went to restart engine and engine blew, a connecting rod snapped in half, which is obviously a forgery/metaligy issue. everyone one who has looked at this says so and is a common problem in all the 2004's. this was a $49,000 suv, and this is terrible, dodge just says $9,000. no comment. i'm sure people have died from the first issue, loss of power, without steering or brakes, but does the engine freezing like that, instantly, cause the weak connecting rod to snap. if someone there is doing there job, this should be recalled asap. i'm sure people are dieing over this and dodge does not care, will not fix,and will not even comment on. i have been trying since july. please help is there any way to see the other complaints that have been filed about this. i have talked to 14 other people with the same hemi engine, same year with the same exact problem, but had to find them myself searching the internet. it's an obvious problem, that's been proven, repeatedly, what can we do to change fix/this. thank you, tom *tr

Our 2004 dodge durangos interior and exterior lights flash on and off intermittently. it happened only a few times in the beginning, but as we were traveling it did it more continuously on and off. during the day it was not as noticeable, but as night falls and you are driving everything goes dark for a few seconds, we have a problem. afraid to drive at night. asked dodge about it and they say if it doesn't happen where they can see it there is nothing that can be done. there are only 42,000 miles on our vehicle. checked recalls and they say we are up to date on all recalls.*tr

I received a recall notice in nov/dec 2007 from dodge regarding a recall on my 2004 dodge durango. i immediately made an appointment upon receiving the notice and had it repaired on jan.2, 2008. the recall was for a wiring cluster behind the instrument panel , it would malfunction resulting in a fire. recently while on a camping trip with my children, brother and sister in law and my sister and her family the car caught fire. it had been parked since approximately 5:00 the day before. we woke up on sunday morning and were standing around the campfire and all of a sudden the horn on my car beeped. i immediately checked to make sure all the kids were accounted for and they were. my 12 year old son ran down and yelled back the car was on fire. i looked down and saw flames shooting form the windshield and the top of the car. none of us had a fire extinguisher but someone yelled grab the coolers because it had bottled water in there. we quickly doused the fire with water and extinguished it. the fire dept. came out and said they believed the fire started behind the instrument panel in the dash. i filed a report with my insurance and the adjuster looked at the car and totaled and concurred with what the fire dept. had said. i filed a claim with chrysler and their response to me was that "your car is out of warranty,we're sorry but we can't help you". i am highly upset about this. if i had been driving this car when the problem occurred not only would i have not made it out but my four children(two of whom are in car seats) would have met certain death. i need your help investigating this. my car is at a salvage lot in greensboro, nc and this needs to be investigated. chrysler didn't even take the time to look at it. their response is not right and i should not be penalized for their negligence. i really need your help here. thanks so much! *tr

I bought my 2004 dodge durango in 2005 january with 666 miles on the truck. the first year i had no problems at all until about march 2006 i was driving from washington state to california when i notice the check engine light came on. i took it to the dealership and had it cut off in california. well, on my way back to washington state after a week i notice the check engine light came back on i took it back to the dealership for repair. the dealership cut off the light and told me there was a recall out on the 2004 dodge durango to fix the instrument panel. so i took the 2004 dodge durango back in to fix the recall problem and they said it was fixed. well, in the summer of 2006 i was driving my 2004 dodge durango when the lights starts to go off and on while i was on the highway. it was raining hard and then my check engine light comes on again, so i just left the light on. now i'm driving around in my 2004 dodge durango in the rain when i go to put gas in it when i stop. all of a sudden all my interior lights starts to go on and off with my headlights going off and on. the windshield wipers did not work so i cut the vehicle off for a minute. when i turn on the vehicle i could not move it out of park and all the lights was on. so, i left the vehicle there in a parking spot and walk back to work. i later came back to the vehicle about 2 hours later and i started up the vehicle and the gear shift worked. so i drove back to my office and use the computer to see if anyone else was having these types of problems and what do you know i'm not the only one. i took it to the dealership like i was told by headquarters and they gave me some paperwork to go to me local dodge dealership. the dealership made me pay for a diagnostic on my vehicle and said it was from water intrusion in the junction block and my warrant does not cover it. headquarters told me to open a blog and try to get a recall started. but ...

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle has been randomly overheating. the failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven between 30- 55 mph. the contact must pull the vehicle over and wait for it to cool down. if the doors on the vehicle are opened for more than five minutes, the vehicle will not start. in order for it to restart, the vehicle must be jumped with jumper cables. the vehicle has not yet been taken to the dealer. through online research, the contact found nhtsa campaign id number 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel). the manufacturer stated that the recall did not apply to her vehicle. the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 80,000.

My truck all of a sudden stop working with no warning. it only has 119,000 miles on it and it wont start. i would like to know if its apart of the recall. *tr
