We have classified the 33 complaints from 2005 Dodge Dakota about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Shutter and pulsating when applying the brakes. has been back to the dealers several times. they turned rotors and problem was not corrected. they said there was no fix at that time. truck was returned again and they replaced a rear axle, rear brakes, and re-surfaced the front rotors this corrected the problem for a short time, the truck now has less than 15000 miles on it, and is unsafe to drive at speeds over 35 mph,so it is seldom used. *tr

I have an 05 dodge dakota with a brake pulsation problem that the dealer can't fix. at highway speeds the truck shudders when brakes are applied. replaced pads, rotors and calipers and problem is still present. attempted three different times to get repairs and no solution. *nm
Purchased my new dodge quad-cab dakota in aug 2005. immediately noticed the truck would shake when brakes were applied, especially at about 50 mph. some new vehicles can have brake rotor and drum rust and i assumed that that may have been the problem. but after 3000 miles on vehicle, i took it to the local dodge dealer to have them diagnose the problem. i had waited to take it to the shop so the oil could be changed at the same time. i also wanted to allow ample time to wear-in the new shoes and rotors etc. dealer ordered new front brake rotors on nov 8 2005 and rotors were replaced on nov 22 2005 with truck showing about 3600 miles on odometer. dealer informed me when i picked up the truck that the problem was not yet fixed and that rear brake parts were being ordered. the shimmy and shake when braking at around 50 mph is serious and would cause safety concerns under certain conditions such as slick or rough roads, as applying brakes causes a bouncing sensation as if you were traveling on a washboard road (series of small humps or bumps). it is upsetting to me that this new vehicle is sold with the factory being aware that this problems exists on these vehicles. it is fraudulent to sell a defective vehicle such as this and knowing the problem exists. unsafe while braking at moderate speeds. *nm
dt: the contact owns a 2005 dodge dakota. the contact stated immediately he began experiencing the brake pedal pulsating. the service dealer did not recognize the problem. the contact stated he kept experiencing the problem, and it did get worse. the dealership replaced the front brake rotors, but this did not remedy the problem. also, the dealership replaced the rear brake drums. the contact stated that this did almost fix the problem, but after a week of driving, the pulsation appeared again. the service dealer examined the vehicle, and stated they did not feel the pulsation. they were doing the best they could for the consumer.*ak *nm updated 07/25/06. *jb
We bought a new 2005 dodge dakota quad cab v-6 from magnussens in aburn california. when parking from our return trip 200 miles away we noticed a rubbing noise, almost as if the tires are rubbing. made an appointment with the dodge dealership in our area for july 19th. they inspected the truck and said that the serpentine belt and tensioner would have to be replaced. this, if not fixed could cause lose of power steering, ac etc. as stated in the owners manually. however, they could not perform the work until they called chrysler corp and get authorization. this took 1 week. i called magnussens of auburn to let them know. did not get a follow up. didn't even get the report card on the business the were so anxious for us to get and fill out regarding there service. sport chrysler repaired the truck. also at this time the brake lines were adjusted the brake hoses were extremely tight, this could cause the brake lines to abrupt. see other complaint regarding rotors, and suspension. *** wc
Within one month after purchase of our 2005 dodge dakota quad cab, we started to experience the vibration in the truck. we have taken the truck in over 7 times. axles, rotors, wheel bearings, etc., have all been replaced several times to no avail. a zone representative from dcc said "it is a characteristic of the vehicle." bull!! if this is a characteristic, why were we not told about it when we purchased the vehicle. we too are waiting for a recall that will probably never be issued! we want results. fix our truck and make it right...*nm
While driving above 50mph if you apply brakes the rear tires vibrate very vogorous and sometimes sway off the lane. i dropped my new 2005 dodge dakota quad cab st (v-8) magnum at the dealer service center. as of today the truck has been there for over a week and have attempted three (3) times to rectify but with no success. they replaced the brake drums, replaced the whole axel and have also replaced tires without any improvement.
Dt: the contact stated while driving the vehicle it vibrated. the brakes locked, and the transmission slipped. the dealer has replaced the axle, the braking system, and the transmission control module. this only made the problem worse. the vehicle has not been specifically diagnosed to determine the cause of the problem. the dealer said they would again have to replace the axle, braking system, and the transmission control module to remedy the problem. the vehicle is going to be repaired as soon as the parts are available. *ak updated 01/11/06. *jb
I have a 2005 dodge dakota quad cab and when i would go to stop from high speeds it would shutter really bad until i would take my foot off of the break. however in may 06 i was hit in the drivers side rear tire and had my entire rear axle replaced with a new one since the old one was damaged in the accident and no longer have the shuttering when i stop. *nm
At 470 miles, my 2005 dodge dakota club cab developed a bad shimmy/vibration whenever the brakes were applied. the dealers service department determined that the rear brake drums were defective. they replaced them under warranty and several days later the problem returned. they machined the rear drums and put them back on the vehicle. at 1472 miles i had to return to the dealer again. the same vibration upon application of the brakes had returned, only worse. they confirmed the problem and machined the drums one last time. this fix only worked for a few more days. the shimmy/vibration was gone, only to be replaced by a loud thumping noise from the rear end whenever brakes were applied. at this time, the vehicle had just over 1700 miles on it. i returned to the service department on 13 september 2005 and the service team made 6 more attempts to remedy the problem, including brand new drums, machining of same and trying drums from another 2005 dakota in their inventory. nothing worked. the problem is worse than ever. they had the vehicle for 10 days and could not fix it! it was returned to me still defective on 22 september 2005. i sent a certified letter to daimler chrysler customer center on 23 september 2005 notifying them of my intent to invoke my rights under alabama lemon law section 8-20a. i want a full refund. this is ridiculous! *jb
I have a 05 dodge dakota with a brake pulsating problem that the dealer made an attempt to repair. it was very pronounced in hard braking. the repair seemed to work at first; however, it has now returned.
Dt when the consumer applied the brakes, the vehicle vibrated so badly, the consumer was unable to control the vehicle. the dealer replaced the left front wheel bearing, rotors, front and rear drums. the consumer called daimler chrysler and they were suppose to get back with the consumer today. *jb can't set minutes on clock radio and won't keep correct time. clock radio has to be reordered. speedometer ticks at times. dealer could not duplicate condition. *tt
I have an 05 dodge dakota with a brake pulsatian problem that the dealer and dalmer crystler do not have a fix for. after have a loan car for 8 straight days they made me take my truck back unfixed. they state it is a non safety issues. but when i hit the brake at highway speeds the entrie truck shakes real bad. this has been going on for just about 2 months. i have had this in the shop 4 times for this same problem without a fix. they have replaced just about everything there is to replace and i still have the same shaking problem. this last time they had my truck for 8 straight days and now i am being told corp will be down on friday the 24th to look at the truck and decide what to do with it. i just want to have this documented just in case they state i must keep the truck.please call me with questions thank you
Excessive stress on the front brake hoses when the vehical is turning all the way to the left or the right. this problem could cause the front brake hoses to fail prematurely.
Dt: the contact stated while driving a t highway speeds on bumpy roads the vehicle had poor stability. he felt as though he could lose control of the vehicle. he took the vehicle to the dealer numerous times. the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the problem. he noted daimler/chrysler were aware of this problem but at this time there was no solution. the dealer resurfaced a rotor on the front brakes which did relieve some vibration in the front suspension. no further repairs have been made at this time. *ak
