Anti-lock brake system. while driving along at aprox 40 mph with the windows up and air conditioning fan on high speed, i didn't hear an approaching fire truck as i neared an intersection. upon entering the intersection, i was starteled by the loud blow of the fire truck's air horn and immediately slammed on the brakes. the anti-lock brakes system engage in a very perculiar manner! immediately upon feeling the brakes engage, the anti-lock brake system released the brakes and allowed my vehicle to coast forward nearly 20 yards before the brakes re-engaged bringing my vehicle to a halt. if it were not for the skillful driving of the fire truck's operators (both front and rear drivers) who swirved and steered around me, the outcome would have been disastrous (even fatal).*ak

I own a 2000 dodge dakota, and have noticed a popping noise on the dirvers side front end. i have since determined that it is in fact the upper ball joint that is badly worn, and has an extreme amount of play in it. i understand that this is becomming a growing problem and wanted to add to it in hopes of getting it replaced before my front wheel falls off. *ak

Power steering fails. lose control of steering at highway speeds after about 1.25 hours. first occurance in august 2002, then october, 2002. did not drive on highway for extended period until august 2003 - failed again and again on mountain roads, exits, straightaways while passing, gentle curves. november 2002 dealer replaces rack and pinion and bushings at 23,997 miles. august 18, 2003, 31424 miles, dealer replaces column, intermediate shaft and bolt per starline. sep 3, 2003, 31904 miles, dealer replaces all four control arms - cannot replicate problem as they will not drive the required miles, i'm their test dummy. the knobs for air conditioning also broke at this time - charged to fix this. manufacturer says to contact dealer, dealer won't drive necessary miles - i still have to check the sep 3 repair to see if it really fixed the problem. each time the alignment is out and they will not fix this as part of the warranty item although i maintain my vehicles' alignment. the brakes have been relined at 26k miles because the dealer said they were shuddering - which i had not experienced until they repaired them. shocks have been replaced, have been trying to get the rear struts replaced due to excessive sway and loss of control when carrying a load, another thing they claim not to replicate.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the brake rotors are worn causing extended stopping distance. dealer notified dealer replace three times already ts

The rotors on my 2000 dodge dakota continue to warp. i have replaced them at my expense (because the dealer won't recognize the obvious engineering problem) various times. aftermarket parts don't seem to help though it does slow the process down. *ph

Brake vibration with less than 11,000 miles, got rotors turned. the vibration returned, had rotors turned. six months later they started to vibrate again and still are. replaced rotors with high performance rotors.
