We have classified the 37 complaints from 2014 Dodge Charger about STEERING into the following categories.
The vehicle when i purchased it 3 months ago has pretty low mileage and $79,000 on it well i noticed the whole time i heard a creaking sounding when i would turn the tires and then when i went to georgia because i live in tennessee for christmas and by the time i got back to tennessee i couldn't even turn my wheel and i guess the fuel pump went out in it but it's a new car and it's been taken really good care of i'm just wondering why the pump went out on it so fast when i was driving so fast i could wrecked and everything
Wife dropped me off at work and literally the service power steering system light came on the dash. they vehicle lost power steering and this happened out of nowhere. thankfully she was stopped in a parking lot when this happened and the power steering quit
Power steering pump all of a sudden, just went out. luckily i was parking my car at home.
2014 dodge charger has power steering failure, no accidents to cause damage have occurred. power steering has gone out but will occasionally function for several seconds causing potential crashed at high speeds on freeway. this dangerous issue has been getting worse over several months and we are not the only ones to have it.
When driving my vehicle their is a knocking noise in my front right wheel, almost sounds as if some bolts are loose. also when pulling in to back up, when i turn my steering wheel a certain way their is a funny clicking sound in the steering wheel, and funny sound in the brake when i am backing my car into my drive way. i believe that this may be an issue with a recall that hasn't been looked into.
Around 70k miles i noticed my car not wanting to turn left, especially when braking. the wheel seems to lock up and is very difficult to turn. i also noticed a knocking, rattling type noise, that seems to come from the wheel area, when turning either left or right and at low and high speeds. i took my car to a dodge dealership to be checked. i was told i needed new brakes, rotors and lower control arms replaced. which i had them replaced. i took car back because it is still doing the same thing, i was told they do not see or know any reason why it's still happening. the check engine light came on, codes ps401 and p06dd was reported. the locking of the wheel is occurring more frequently and i'm afraid to drive the vehicle.
70,000 miles on my dodge only bought/serviced from dodge larry h miller. aurora, colorado only owner no accidents steering wheel column/rod/wheel has come out in my lap now twice!!! once while driving. happens when i adjust the steering wheel lever to go up or down was fixed over a month ago for the first incident (warranty covered most) i still had to pay some out of picket... happened again a few weeks ago! it has been in the shop for over 20 days for the first incident now i'll need it to be fixed again.. same issue very unsafe i could have wrecked how does the steering wheel just come out... twice!? filed a corporate complaint now twice with dodge/chrysler my alignment is still off tires that are new are smoking due to not being fixed properly total care auto certified pre owned warranty sent adjuster and saw the first incident and paid $$$ thousands to fix this. now it has happened again... looks like it has never been fixed and the whole rod and wheel are out again once again my car is broken and needs to be towed just because i adjusted the steering wheel .... needs to be addressed asap! i will be contacting a lawyer about lemon law for state of colorado this is a very unsafe vehicle why did or is there no airbag...
While driving freeway, highway, in a parking lot or at a stop light my cars electronics are shutting off and occasionally the engine shuts off and my steering locks up. sounds like the p60 recall but my car vin does not qualify but had all the same symptoms and is very dangerous. this car is my only way to work and it's been getting worse and i have been denied a fix on this. this is not safe at all
On highway going 65mph.car steering lost control and pulled sharp right off road. could not steer or brake. all lights on panel were lit up. road in the ditch at 65mph and ramped a driveway and still couldn't steer or brake.finally car came to a stop on its own or due to impact and high brush in the ditch.
I have owned the car for a little over a year, since then i have had the steering wheel and the steering wheel rod/column completely come out in my lap.. once while driving. i have already had it fixed by my certified preowned warranty and once again it has done it. this time it took off my windshield wiper lever, it has completely destroyed my interior and unfortunately the warranty did not cover that which is not fair. remember the steering wheel column and rod is very heavy and does much damage when it falls in your lap while driving. i have been the only owner, it has never been in an accident, i have only serviced and bought it from a dodge dealership. the car now has 69,000 miles and recently was fixed over a month ago and issue still remains. my car was in the shop for over 20 days i did not get a rental vehicle and it was the most pain i've ever experienced when it comes to dealing with warrantees and dealerships i have ever experienced in my life. this needs to be addressed or i will take other matters. i have been the only owner, it has never been in an accident, i have only serviced and bought it from a dodge dealership. the car now has 69,000 miles and recently was fixed over a month ago and issue still remains. my car was in the shop for over 20 days i did not get a rental vehicle and it was the most pain i've ever experienced when it comes to dealing with warrantees and dealerships i have ever experienced in my life. this needs to be addressed or i will take other matters.according to the state of colorado the lemon law will be in effect if the car is in shop for the same repair over 30 days and i am willing to hire a lawyer and make this process happen. and now the cruise control does not work
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge charger. while driving approximately 40 mph, the steering ability became difficult. the contact drove the vehicle to a parts dealer and was informed to take the vehicle to a dealer. the vehicle was taken to parkway chrysler dodge (21560 hall rd, clinton township, mi 48038) where it was determined that the steering rack needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
All dash warning lights are on. loss of power steering trans slippery and sticking.
2014 dodge charge police car loses all power steering when turned left. we have 4 of these models at our police agency and all 4 are doing the same thing. after speaking with several other police chief's, they all stated that the electrostatic power steering pump was bad and it was a multiple thousand dollar fix for them. our local dodge dealer says to fix each fleet car, the cost will be over $2000 per car. with this many issues, there should be an investigation and a recall. further, when the vehicle is in motion and the steering wheel is turned left, all power steering is lost.

Alternator recall that matches exact issue, make (dodge), model (charger), year (2014), and engine size of car (3.6l v6). alternator malfunction caused short circuit of hydro-electric power steering pump. indicator lights began to flash and car would begin to stall while in operation until eventually dying completely. alerted that vin number was not part of the recall and had to have all work done at local mechanic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge charger. while driving 20 mph, the steering seized and the check engine, brake, abs and steering assist warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
Experiencing difficulty turning left, especially quickly. seems to lose power steering or begins to lock up and not want to turn left. operates normally while turning right. happens at low speeds, have not tested at high speed due to safety concerns.
While driving my car just about every light on my dash flashed on then the steering wheel light stayed on; as it became hard for me to turn wheel after i had pulled over to turn car off. i took to mechanic and he detected that it was the power steering pump. the mechanic called dealership for car part the next day because dodge service department was closed because of holiday. so today when he called he said they informed him that it was a common problem with the dodge chargers. my question is if it is known to be a problem with the power steering pump with the dodge chargers shouldn’t it be a recall on it.
Power steering pump has devoloped a leak. 65,000 miles. pumps are on backorder making it appear to be a very common issue. driving on highways is fine. makes for steering at slow speeds in parking lots communities etc very difficult.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge charger. while the vehicle was parked, the steering wheel was difficult to turn left and right. in addition, the instrument cluster warning indicators were flashing and the "service power steering" message was displayed. the contact called the local dealer (heggs chrysler dodge ram, 6130 e auto park drive, mesa, az 85206, (480) 565-5627), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 110,000.
Power steering goes out completely without warning , wasn't out of fluid completely but added some and went out again after , car was inspected and nothing is wrong with the pump or reservoir and shouldn't go out . it goes out while driving down the road then comes back on , does not make any noises or anything else , cannot turn and randomly comes on and off while driving
2014 dodge charger with only 55k miles on it - power steering going out, mid drive it will set off the power steering warning lights and then sometimes the power steering goes out. this seems ridiculous for a low mileage car!
I was sitting in my car in front of my house . i went to start the car then my dashboard was blinking with engine light ,battery light and brake light . then suddenly i seen "service power steering " my wheel was extremely hard to turn . i took it up to the stealers to tell me it's a electrical pump issue that will cost me 2,000 dollars. this electrical issue came out of no where . after i reading different consumers testimony , i noticed this has been an ongoing issue with their steering pump . if i was out on the road and my steering where stopped on me , i could've been died . it should be a law suit filed on them . i would not recommend anyone to ever purchase anything from dodge.
It is real hard to turn my car wheel; i was told it was some electrical problems. but i'm really not sure; it came out the blue.
'takata recall' driving my vechicle on city roads is fine, the vechicle runs perfectly but taking it in the highway is another problem. picking up highway speeds the dashboard begins to shake as well as the steering wheel. it happens when i reach 80mph and is a concern to me. i've never experienced a problem like that in a vechicle so i thought it was a problem and told the dealership where i brought the vechicle from. unfortunately the problem wasn't resolved so i'm askinging is this a problem i should worry about
Steering cut out when turning i have three car doing the same
11-23-16, driving on interstate at 65 mph in a 70mph ,suddenly steering wheel began to pull by itself left to right repeatedly for about 3-4 seconds ,i nearly lost control, braked gently and steering returned to normal,,battery saver mode came on a short before this happened, 2 hours later on a 40 mph city street i was making a normal low speed left turn on a green light, car seemed to not go where i steered it and we hit a traffic control pole, deploying all airbags, there was a light drizzle in both instances, but this was not a hydroplane, battery saver mode was on for over 4 hours during our entire trip until our accident. *tr
I have been working with fca since 8/31/16, so for 28 days now, that i have been without power steering. i filed my first complaint on, or around 9/12/16. i experienced the exact same symptoms as stated in nhtsa pe14022 while driving down the highway at apporximately 65mph. every warning light went off flashing, service transmission message, service power steering , and tach, and speedo would drop to zero , and i would lose engine power, and power steering. i captured the incident on video, and provided the video to nhtsa, i will again provide a link for the video here : https://youtu.be/e96hvqpep10 . in dealing with fca llc, they refuse to replace the electric hydraulic power steering pump that was fried from this incident occuring. fca is saying that it was the "2 year old mopar battery" that caused the incident, and refuse to replace the ehps pump that worked perfectly fine before this occured. i replaced the alternator per nhtsa recall no. 14v-634 a great deal of time prior to this incident occuring. fca is trying to circumvent having to replace the pump by changing the origin of the means to the battery, instead of the alternator. i have been extremely frustrated with how fca refuses to acknowledge all of the proof given to them. i am not alone in this, there had been many complaints filed with similar results as mine in dealing with fca. it's time for nhtsa to do something to remedy this issue with fca. fca offered to replace the $1400 ehps pump if i pay a $500 co-pay, i refuse to accept this offer based on the principle of the matter. the true origin of all of the issue's i'm currently having, is from the original alternator that was in the car for a year and a half initially, and during that time it was improperly charging the battery that possibly caused the battery to ultimately fail on 8/31/16. please see attached files. failure mileage 81332
On august 29th 2016 i was returning(driving on us20) home from some official business, when my dash started flashing, all the warning lights would flash, the speed displayed would go up, and down , and the car started changing gears. there was a ticking sound coming from my gear shift, like it was trying to select gear. the power steering light , and service transmission message keep coming up as well. i would intermittenly lose power steering during this, and power from the engine would lag also. i have a three minute, and thirty-five second video of what was occuring. i contacted some mechanic friends that work on indiana state police chargers, and they thought it could be the battery shorting out. the next morning i replaced the battery, and installed properly with positive post first. this seem to resolve the dash flashing symptoms, but i then had no power steering at all. i took to our local dodge dealer in lagrange, in they ran a diagnostic analysis, and determined the electronic power steering pump was no good. the power steering pump worked perfectly fine with no issues at all, ever, before these electrical issues occured. this vehicle is used to transport the us congressman, when he is in the district on official business, and we need it repaired asap. it is my opinion, the power steering pump was destroyed by the electrical issues concerning the recall on this vehicle. it is also my opinion that fac llc should replace the power steering pump at no cost per the consent order pertaining to this recall. i am trying to get the video to email, at this point, the video is to long to email.
While driving and preparing to turn my vehicle took control and i was no longer able to break or turn. thankfully there was nobody in the neighbor at the time and with less than a foot from hitting the stop sign i was able to stop. i took it to the dealer where i purchased (1.5 years prior)and they said nothing was wrong just needed a new battery. i insisted this was not the issue so the manager had his associate test drive to come to the same conclusion the steering and brake system is fine. not happy i left after purchasing the battery and here we are 1.5 weeks later with the same issue. i tried to drive out of work yesterday and i lost control to my steering and it locked. i put my car in park and tried once more the same thing happened, i then try to restart but it would not allow me to do so. i had to disconnect the battery and it started. not feeling safe for my life i left the car at work and still do not want to drive it. from what i am reading i am not the only 2014 dodge charger having this issue. i need this fixed if i was on the freeway who knows what would have happened.
We bought our car new, it has been at the dodge dealer for repairs for the same things over and over for 6 months total time in shop. 1. the battery saver mode comes on, and then the steering gets hard, the alt. has been replace, extra wiring added to add more grounds. this affects the way the car drives. when the battery saver mode is on the power steering stops working or works less. the power steering pump and rack and pinion has been replaced twice. this problem happens every day, in town or on the freeway. 2. the radio keeps shorting out, it's been replaced 3 times. this happens daily, it quits, blew out the speakers, navagtion stopped working. 3. the heater keeps getting stuck on either 100% hot or 100% a/c on cold. settings will not change. controls have been replaced 3 times, the heat/cold door motor was replace twice. the car has spent 185 days in service this year. when they give the car back it acts up in about 5 mins. the car is going back in for the radio and battery saver mode and steering on monday. i picked the car up friday and it failed less than a mile from the dealership.
My dodge chargers power steering would quit both while in park and drive, when in the car and the incident would occur you could not turn the vehicles steering wheel. it was taken to the dealer on a tow truck due to vehicle not being able to function properly.
When the wheel is turned, a noise is being heard, squeaking, in certain positions, steering is ok but the noise is very intimidating, also, there was noise coming out of the engine bay into the car one day, it stopped so that's off the list, but as i read online, the steering wheel problem is common among dodge owners, and dealers refuse to fix or acknowledge the problem, not to mention that the vehicle is fairly new..... less than a year old.... *tr
While driving on the highway at 65mph the vehicle shut off and i lost power steering. i was barely able to avoid being hit during heavy morning traffic. once stopped i was unable to get the vehicle to restart and needed to be towed to the dealer.
I was stopped at an intersection with a 4 way stop. a car pulled up to my left so i pulled into the intersection. i began pulling into the intersection to make a left turn and another car came speeding up, pulled around the car to my left and hit my car on the left (driver's) side. i was thrown forward and hit my head on the sunvisor, causing a subdural hematoma in my head. this resulted in my spending 8 days in he icu unit of memorial hospital, springfield, illinois
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the interior lights flickered, the stereo failed, and the brake pedal vibrated when it was depressed. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle veered to the driver and passenger side intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 31,007.
While traveling on the freeway (in the lane next to the carpool lane) the car immediately pulled to the extreme left causing me to crash into the center divider. during this time, i had no control over the vehicle. when i was finally able to come to a complete stop, the tire was pulled back next to the front driver door, but still upright and headed forward. you could see where the tire had been spinning against the body of the car. (these are known symptoms of a failed ball joint) unfortunately, the complete tire assembly was ripped off as it was loaded onto the tow truck. chrysler has since ruled that the accident was caused by my "misuse/abuse" of the vehicle. however, it was only 4 months old and very well taken care of. a total of $13,000 of damage was done to car, of which they have placed the blame solely on me; based off of photos that i took after the accident. i waited three weeks for them to send an investigator out to look at my car... he never showed up. the repair work was started on my vehicle without my authorization. (cover up??) the body shop (which is at the dodge dealership where i initially purchased the car) has since advised me to let them finish the repair work, and attempt to trade the car in. i have expressed to them and the chrysler group that i would not feel safe in that car if it was fixed. i also find it unfair that my insurance would have to pay for their mistake and faulty part. i could have been killed in that accident, i hope that others who have experienced this problem will come forth so that lives may be saved in the future and injuries prevented. *tr
