Problems with 2012 Dodge Charger ENGINE

On average, the 2012 Dodge Charger starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 86 526 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Dodge Charger

I was driivng on the interstate and my car shut off by itself. i tried to restart but no luck. i found out that the timing chain broke off. i know theres been recall on the timing chain before.

I was driving my 2012 dodge charger when my engine light came on, a few minutes after the engine light started flashing and running rough. i took the car to auto zone for diagnostic which stated that po303 misfired 3 times. took it to a mechanic which changed out my spark plug and coil which went away for a few minutes but engine light returned and flashed with same reaction. i returned back to the mechanic which had to dig deeper of what was causing the spark plug and coil to misfire and found it was the lifter. it is my understanding that there are many dodge chargers with this same problem and do not feel that we should have to pay for chrysler/dodge error/problem and i am pleading that this becomes a recall for chrysler to own up to their responsibility as they know that it is an issue as they are making sure their newer chargers don't have this problem.

Had the air bag recall fixed but yet the air bag light still comes on all the time and and out of no where my car fills like the transmission is bout to go out it jerks when you press on the gas country roads and when stop it idles like it's trying to stall out

While stopped at a traffic light near a busy intersection, there was a loud pop from underneath the hood which was followed by the vehicle shaking and stalling. i immediately turned on my hazard lights and attempted to move out of the flow of traffic. upon inspection, engine coolant was leaking and parts of the fan blade were found underneath the car. it was apparent that the condenser fan had broken off and damaged the radiator. all of the fan's blades were gone and scattered underneath the hood and highway. the incident happened late thursday evening and unfortunately, i cannot get it in to be repaired until mid next week as the parts have to be inspected and ordered. i have a family member that is a mechanic and he helped to get me and my kids home safely. upon review of the dodge site, there have been customer satisfaction notifications for the engine cooling fans for other makes and models with repair assistance, but the 2012 charger is not listed as one of them. however, the exact same issue described is what has occurred with my vehicle this week. dodge stated that this is not a current recall issue however, with my experience i feel this is something that warrants attention because had the vehicle been in motion, this could've been a hazardous situation for my family, pedestrians, and other drivers.

Takata recall cooling fans fell apart

I have filed a complaint in regards to the issue previously, but new information that mopar issued a campaign to recall the timing chain on over 50k vehicle for this issue but mopar refused to cover my timing chain due to my vehicle had to many miles and i am not the first owner. i find it completely unsafe to have a timing chain snap while driving at any speed. i was attempting to turn on a main street when this issue occured. please advise if anything further comes. i attached a copy of the previous recall on this issue

While in motion on a city street, vehicle displayed warning lights and stalled. was able to pull off into a parking lot where the gear shift was locked in park position. had vehicle towed to mechanic who advised that the timing chain had locked up. i am aware that there was a customer satisfaction notification sent out by chrysler, but when i inquired about it at my local dealership they said that my vehicle didn't fall under that notification.

Check engine light coming on - after scan, code p0128 appears indicating that the coolant thermostat had a fault. according to service tech, most common solution is to replace engine coolant temperature sensor (ect). this apparently is very a common error on all mopar engines model years 2006-2012 or so and this happens on a lot of them. since this is apparently a mistake on mopar's part and is very common for this year, make, and model, it should be paid for at the dealers expense. i was surprised to hear this was a somewhat known issue but that no recall has been enacted for it.

Driving at highway speed in eco mode engine shut off and would not start. dealer said that the timing chain failed. speed was about 70-75 mph

The oil pump is not giving enough pressure for the car to accelerate therefore causing problems on the road and many times dangerous situations. there is also a check engine light on. i replaced everything that could be wrong with it except the dual stage oil pump. i've talked to many technicians and they said that that is the only thing it can be. please review this on the 2012 dodge charger sxt rwd 3.6l engine. it is a safety concern.

P06dd error code - affecting v6 pentastar engine problem with acceleration after engine reaches 3,000 rpm when there is a p06dd error code. can't accelerate into traffic and car bogs down and you need to wait until rpms drop below 3,000 to engage engine again. see my post at chryslerforums.com https://www.chryslerforum.com/forum/new-member-area-5/p06dd-error-code-problem-oil-pump-30740/#post110546 also, if you do a google search of "p06dd and carcomplaints.com" you'll find that there are over 10 pages of info related to other people who experienced this issue with the oil pump in the v6 pentastar engine.

At 99000 miles i started hearing a slight ticking noise coming from the engine while idling. it is the 3.6 liter vvt pentastar. the ticking is getting worse. all mechanics i've spoken to say "don't run that car." i need to know what's going on and what it would take to get this issue addressed. would this repair be covered? if not, how much does it cost? i purchased this car new in 2012. my name is [xxx] . please get back to me asap because it's seems this is critical. As i exited the freeway my vehicle began to shut down and lose power. i was able to sputter at 10 mph for about a quarter mile to a parking lot. the vehicles electronics were shutting down the whole time and weird electrical activation's started occurring or freezing on their own such as lights, senors, wipers, radio etc. i could also smell a burnt odor emitting from the air vents. when i parked the vehicle it did not start and had smoke coming from the engine. i checked the engine and saw some smoke coming from the alternator and smelled burnt. i took the vehicle to the dealer on 01-22-18 and they diagnosed it as the alternator failing due to the recall but there was no fix yet from chrysler. they stated the quick fix is replacing the alternator but the vehicle would have to come back until they discover what needs to be fixed on the recall. today is 01-24-18 and my vehicle is not repaired because the dealer is waiting approval from chrysler to install a new alternator since there is no exact fix for the recall yet. they told me it may be an electrical computer problem, wiring problem or alternator problem. they told me they may install a new alternator today (01-24-18) and they had to order it. i have been with no vehicle since 01-18-18 due to the dealer and chrysler not problem solving their mistake. i'm glad i didn't crash or was in the fast lane of the freeway when i lost power but my son was scared because he didn't know what was going on. i cant imagine the consequences if things had not gone the way they did. someone could seriously get injured at the expense of chrysler failing to find a fix. would this fall under the lemon law?

Driving on florida turnpike and several car indicator warning lights came on, stability control, battery and so many others that i cannot remember them. a high pitched noise was emitted, car started smoking from vents and smelled like an electrical fire. i was passing a turnpike stop and was able to unsafely cross several lanes of traffic to pull in to the stop. i made it into the parking lot just in time and the car cut out. had to take to be towed to the closest mechanic and leave overnight because it was too hot to connect to computer to troubleshoot. the battery casing was melted. the alternator and the battery had to be replaced. i am very grateful that i was next to a turnpike stop when this happened or my car would have shut down in the middle of the highway and could have resulted in a serious accident.

The electrical system in the car shut down while driving through an intersection , 180 amp alternates failed, all systems failed while driving.

I have had to replace the radiator twice in the last year and a half. 1st time seam was split 2nd time the bottom of the radiator rotted out. both times i relaced with new parts bought from the chrysler dealer

Had a diagnostic completed by one auto shop that stated i needed my left cylinder head replaced. took car to the dodge dealer service shop who states that i may need lifters or a cam shaft. however, he isn't really sure what the issue with the engine is because he will have to take the engine apart to get an idea and that's 3-hours of labor before a definitive answer can be given.

Takata recall sent a notice about the alternator. it was on the second carfax i received but not from the original dealer i got the car. they never replaced the alternator. so i bought the car went to the bank and i thought my car was going to burn to the ground nothing but heavy smoke poured from under the car and under the hood. my car was sitting in the bank of america parking lot.. needless to say i had to replace the alternator because the dealship gave me a bogus carfax to begin with.

I had he exact same alternator failure as described by the dodge charger p60 recall. i was on the highway going about 60mph when my radio and front panel flickered, then cut off for a few seconds before coming back on. my traction control and abs lights stayed on. about a minute later, i lost power and my car completely stalled. i was able to drift to the center lane before coming to a complete stop. this was frightening because it was dark outside, it's a poorly lit road and of course i had no electricity to turn on my hazard lights. with no way to pop the trunk, i had to crawl into it via the back seat to grab flares (luckily i had some-most people don't). i was almost struck by several cars during this time. alas, the tow truck came and i was taken to a safe location. the average quote from mechanics in the dc area is about $800. the dealership wants $970. the 180amp alternator should be recalled just as the 160amp alternator. its defective and its a safety risk.

Takara recall i was coming home from work and my car shut the radio off and slowly started shutting off other accessories to the car. i work 30 miles from my house. when i got home, the car would not shut off, would not go into park. and everything was going hay wire. i had to put the parking break on so i would move, because i couldn't get it to go into park. thank goodness my window was down because i couldn't unlock the car. i had to crawl through the the back seat to pull the emergancy lever to open the trunk. after that i disconnected the battery.i soon found out the battery died and the alternator burnt up. i have replace the battery and the alternator and started the car. it runs but all the electronics are still inoperable.

With out any warning while driving my vehicle on a city street my entire electrical system shut done very rapidly. beginning with the radio shutting it self off, the vehicle then displayed indicator lights saying that my abs system was bad followed by a check engine light indicator. shortly after the check engine light indicator came on a service transmission indicator light displayed followed by all electrical systems shutting down completely. once i was able to pull over the car would not shift into park. i then tried shutting the car off and the car would not turn off. the windshield wipers and other car accessories began to turn on and off on their own. at that time a strong plastic burning smell began followed by smoke from the engine compartment. in order to shut down the vehicle i had to disconnect the battery. the next morning i reconnected the battery to see if the problem had fixed itself. at that point the vehicle started, but still had the same electrical issues from the night before. the only difference was this time the vehicle shut itself off and will no longer start. upon having the vehicle problem diagnosed it appears that the alternator failed without any prior warning causing a complete electrical shutdown of the vehicle. upon further research, there has been a recall for the 2012 dodge charger vehicles concerning faulty alternators in vehicles that are equipped with 160 amp alternators. mine has a 180 amp alternator, but still experienced a short in the alternator as described by recall p60 issued in 2014. upon calling our local dodge dealership we were told that our vehicle was under recall. after towing the vehicle to the dodge dealership we were told that the car was not under the recall list and we would be responsible for paying the towing fees a long with repair fees for the replacement of the alternator.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge charger. while driving at various speeds, the heat was activated in the vehicle and cold air blew out of the vents. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed coolant and there was a slow radiator leak. the vehicle was not repaired, and the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle's battery saver mode warning indicator illuminated along with all the other warning indicators. also, the engine stalled. the vehicle was coasted to the shoulder of the road. the vehicle did not restart and was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

I smelled smoke as i was pulling into a convenience store. i stopped the car beside a gas pump. at that time i saw smoke coming from under the hood. i popped the latch to look under the hood. i was trying to find the latch to open the hood and could not find it, so i looked under the unopened hood and saw a fire. i then got back into the car and moved it away from the fuel pumps and away from the building. i gathered up my phone and phone charger, popped the trunk to see if there was anything i needed to get out. i then backed away from the vehicle at a safe distance and called 911. the police and the fire department came and put the fire out. the car is totaled. the interior is burned up, the 2 front tires are burned up, the wind shield and both front windows shattered, the engine is burned up and the front half of the cars paint has been burned up.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge charger. while driving 40 mph, a metal sound could be heard coming from the vehicle. the contact noticed steam coming from the vehicle and oil leaking. the vehicle was towed to the contact's job where he observed a hole in the engine near the piston area. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

2012 dodge charger//was sitting stationary when i heard a loud bang come from the engine compartment. exited the vehicle and radiator fluid was pouring out from under the vehicle. further investigation led to the passenger side fan had broken apart and seized. also it came in contact with the radiator, splitting tubes on the aluminum core. have read in forums that other consumers have had the same problem on early model dodge chargers 2006-2008....updated 11/13/15 *bf

I was driving my 2012 dodge charger sxt (blacktop edition) approximately 45 mph on a highway when suddenly the car's electronic system starting going haywire. the abs light when on, then the red brake light, then the engine light and so forth. the electronics started flickering on and off. i headed for the nearest exit and just i was exiting the car's steering ability locked up and coaxed it to the middle meridian of the road when it then suddenly lost power, narrowly avoiding an accident in a busy ny intersection. the vehicle would not turn on and i called aaa. they tried to give the car a boost but it only powered the electric system and it would not start. once they took off the cables it had no power. the car had to be towed and is awaiting repairs.the car has never had any previous issues and i have maintained all regularly scheduled maintenance work with the dealer where i purchased the vehicle.
