Several months ago i received a recall notice (p60/nhtsa 14v634) stating due to problems with the alternator the car could lose power while driving and/or catch on fire under the hood. also stated there were no parts to correct the situation. on the night of feb 26 i started the car in the parking lot of a store close to home and heard an unusual sound from under the hood. was already moving so i drove the half mile home pulled in garage and opened the hood. the alternator was smoking heavily. i pulled the car out of the garage turned it off, called the chrysler recall line and they set up towing to the nearest dealership for the next morning. it took 2 hours for the alternator to quit smoking. the next morning the electrical system was completely dead. no power anywhere for anything. i called service department of elk grove chrysler and talked to a service manager about the car coming in on a flat bed. was advised that it sounded like the recall problem and they would take care of it and that i couldn't get a loaner because i hadn't taken out the extended coverage..?? he said the fix may only trake the one day anyway so no need for a loaner. the fix took 2 days. picked the car up and seems ok. the only problem is that it was fixed with the same type of alternator that the recall is for. still no alternators available that have the problems corrected so i' right back where i started or worse, this website now shows my car as being fixed and having no applicable recalls. i don't trust my car, not sure i trust chrysler at this point. *tr

Recall sent to home p60 / nhtsa 14v-634 for 160-am alternator problem: the alternator diodes in your vehicle may experience rapid failure. variability in the failure mode ranges from no output, reduced output, and/or a fully shorted to ground condition. dependent on the alternator failure mod and timing, vehicle electrical system voltage may drop to critical levels, disabling systems such as antilock brake system, electronic stability control, electronic control module and/or central body controller. the driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, which can result in vehicle shutdown while driving and/or an under-hood electrical fire. chrysler intends to repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor) however, the parts required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition are currently not available. chrysler is making every effort to obtain these parts as quickly as possible. will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up recall notice, when the remedy parts are available. i contacted chrysler today to see about alternate transportation 800-853-1403 and was told that none was being provided at this time and that our vehicle was safe to drive. this is an irresponsible response, considering the items listed above in the recall such as electrical fire and failure for the vehicle to operate and control abs etc. during driving. i informed the chrysler representative that this was not acceptable to put our family member behind the wheel and that this was chrysler's burden to repair in a timely manner or provide transportation. we cannot and should not have to pay for a vehicle that is unsafe to drive. other people go on to drive their recalled vehicles, only to have accidents and unfortunately death due to these recalls; (recent chevrolet ignition issues etc.) *tr

My son was driving this car going back to college on the i 49. he noticed smoke coming out of the trunk. he stopped, opened the trunk and it was on fire. luckily he had a bottle of water and put the fire out. in the process he burnt his hand (minor burn). he called the fire department who showed up and told him that the battery or wiring had shorted out and caused a battery meltdown and a fire in the trunk. his clothes and speakers were burnt. the car is now sitting at the dodge dealership in alexandria la. dodge was contacted and so far has denied any manufacturing defect. this car is one year old. i know that there was a recall on this type vehicle last year. this may be related. i am afraid that even when repaired this may happen again. this is very unsafe and dodge should take responsibility for their vehicles. *tr

I received a call from the car dealer (darcars chrysler jeep of rockville, md) that i purchased my vehicle from on 19 march 2013. i was told that my car was recalled for a safety issue. the problem is the engine starter positive terminal on my vehicle could short to ground and cause an electrical fire. an electrical fire could occur at any time regardless whether the vehicle is running or is in the key off position. as of 22 march 2013, there is no fix issued by the manufacturer. furthermore, they (the dealership) can not give me a date when i will receive my automobile back. *tr

I am wondering who dodge is lying to nhtsa or the consumer. i got a phone call from dodge customer care on 3/18/2013. a customer care person advised to stop driving the challenger as there was a possible issue with fire hazard. dodge indicated that there was no fix, but had to take the car to the dealership. i have called the dealership every day and they indicate that no fix has been issued by chrysler and do not know how long it will take to find a fix. i call the customer care center and they have no clue what the fix is or time frame. i looked at your website and the recall notice indicates that the wiring to the starter is going to be replace. this is not what the dodge customer care told me or the dealership. either fraud is going on here or chrysler is trying to cover themselves. i need an answer to fix my car. *tr

Wonder why is it that your website 7 days after recall has nothing to view of the recall of 4459 vehicles with approx. 2500 effected, 7 fires (no injuries). *tr
