The. car continues to die without reason. woke up one morning car would not start. jumped car and it ran with no problem. shut car off and would not start. replaced battery still will only start when jumped. once started car runs fine.
'takata recall' i was getting in my car to head to work at approximately 10:40pm when i tried starting the car but it stalled and all electrical power shut down. i tried again and it did the same. after researching, i found out that my car has a recall (p60) for the alternatordiode thermal fatigue. i had been having problems with the vehicle stalling for a week before this happened but it seem to crank after a while but now it's not starting at all. it happen once only while i was driving. please help!
2011 challenger with less than 3000 miles. stored in garage (attached to house), never out in winter or in rain. went to start the vehicle to take in for a recall when the electronics started to flash and click randomly. unable to clear or stop the malfunction. trunk would not release electrically, had to crawl through the back seat to get to the manual release. disconnected and replaced original battery (in trunk). upon connecting negative terminal, large draw on battery, terminal became hot immediately. disconnected terminal within 10 seconds. smoke appeared from under hood. opened hood and found small fire near alternator. fire extinguished with about 1 liter of water. found burned out wiring harness near alternator. flat bed towed into dealer for investigation and service (pending).
While driving this car on the highway with the windows open, the drivers window suddenly went up almost catching my sons arm in the window. the window continued to go up and down all on its own. eventually it stopped and did not happen again. however it appears that during the night the window started moving on its own and eventually killed the battery. in researching i found that the 2011 challengers had a smart glass problem, exactly like this, but it was only on builds before march 2011 and this car was july 2011. i fear that during the night if this happens while parked in garage it could possible overheat motor and cause fire. or trap my sons arm in window while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. while attempting to drive the vehicle, it failed to start. also, the driver's side window independently rolled up and down. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to glendale dodge chrysler jeep (900 s brand blvd, glendale, ca 91204, (818) 839-2457) where it was diagnosed that the door latch was draining the battery and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
The smart glass switch for the power windows drains the battery while the car is powered off. chrysler has a 'minor' recall on it for my make and model of my car, but they decided my vin is not included even though all of the symptoms of the recall are present and my vehicle matches the year make and model of the recall
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. while driving 35 mph, the contact noticed smoke under the hood of the vehicle. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and flames appeared from the alternator. the contact extinguished the fire and drove to don davis dodge jeep (1901 n collins st, arlington, tx 76011 (877) 376-9083). the dealer diagnosed that the alternator was faulty. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Driving down a city street at night alternator stops working. everything electrical shuts off - able to roll mostly into a turning lane in the middle of the street before it stopped. everything electrical turns off - no lights -other drivers cannot see the car. left in a very vulnerable unsafe position - i could have been seriously injured. unable to shift into neutral to push out of road. left in a very unsafe position. called tow truck who was able to get there before anything bad happened. learned of the recall over the internet - i was never notified of a recall. if i had know there was a recall, i would have repaired the car - i never would have driver this car if i had known. dodge does not have a "fix" in place so i must repair the car on my own and wait until they get it figured out over at dodge.
Car stalls right after initial starting attempt 50% of time. must cycle the starting button three times to get the car to start. occurs randomly hot or cold. no engine codes occur. dealer has no idea what the problem is but suggests that it might be the key fobs or something called a "win" module. the problem began right after an alternator failure. i am not willing to invest money in repairing this issue unless there is a clear manufacturer strategy to fixing the problem.
The alternator in my 2011 challenger failed. i took the vehicle to a private repair facility. they tried to order a replacement alternator, and the dealership would not release them the part, claiming they, the dealership, must perform the repair. this is not what the recall letter states, nor can or will the dealership perform this repair in a timely manner. my car has been down since 9/22, and the dealer will not perform the repair until 10/5.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair as the recall notice was received over six months ago. jim riehl's friendly chrysler dodge jeep ram (1515 s lapeer rd, lapeer, mi 48446, (810) 664-2900) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was contacted several times and confirmed the parts would be available in two or three months. the vin was unknown.
2011 dodge challenger. consumer writes in regards to nhtsa recall 17v435. *ld the consumer stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount time completing the recall repair. *js
My alternator had a sudden failure that left my stranded in the middle of the road. my cat started slow, but i ran a systems check and no alerts showed on the dash. i started driving down a major hwy when my abs light flashed on and off once. i pulled to the safest place i could find on the road and turned my car off and tried the restart. car would not start and i was stranded. i finally had someone stop and jump me off. i drove directly to the shop and had my battery replaced. the next day as i am driving to work my battery charging system light comes on. i once again get left stranded.
I was on the 91west fwy and out of nowhere my abs and airbags and break i say almost every light. are on after that my car just turn off completely without no control over my car going about 70 mph i never before have experience something like this i'm glad to say that i was the only person in the vehicle..usually my kids are with me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, all of the vehicle warning lights illuminated and the engine stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. it was unknown if the repair was performed. the failure mileage was 73,973.
Driving my 2011 dodge challenger r/t on the highway on the second lane switching lanes approaching my exit. as i turned to the right lane all the lights on my dashboard went on and without warning my car turned off causing the steering wheel to stiffen up. luckily i was able to stop the car pull to the shoulder and realized my battery was dead. i jumpstarted my car and was able to get to my destination which was nearby and i parked and turned off my car. as soon as i tried turning it on my battery was dead again. i called my roadside assistance for a jump and was able to get my car going but as soon as i turned the steering wheel my car seemed to have a short which caused all the dashboard lights to go and my car to turn off and kill my battery. reading how many other dodge owners have gone through very similar problems and been fortunate to avoid getting hurt or hurting other drivers. i believe this issue should be looked into a bit more since it seems to be more common and should not be at the owners expense. ive been very happy with my challenger to this point. i just want to be able to drive my challenger comfortably not worry about my safety and know the manufacturer has done everything possible to take care of the issue and avoid the same problem in future models. i eventually would like to own a newer challenger model. knowing that steps are being taken to avoid similar issues on them, i can see myself getting one, even if asked to return the one i own now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact stated that the smart glass window switch failed, and caused the driver's door to fail to open. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to several unknown mechanics. the contact also replaced the smart switch himself however, the repairs did not correct the failure. the smart glass switch failure caused the vehicle battery to drain and the contact was unable to open the doors, the trunk, and the vehicle was not driven since march of 2017. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer advised the contacted that the vehicle was not included in the smart glass switch manufacturer recall: m24. the contact also wanted to add that the smart glass switch was purchase from a chrysler dealer the part number was 68064403af. the failure mileage was 62,742.
My 2011 dodge challenger completely loss power when i was driving to work on the throughway. all the warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator gone out and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system); however, the vin was not included. dealer said it was the same alternator that was on the challanger recalled but it was not covered under the recall.

While driving my 2011 dodge challenger r/t all of a sudden all of the interior lights just lite up like a christmas tree. i was able to slow down and stop the car and then i proceeded to turn off the car. as i was trying to determine what happened i then opened the hood and saw the alternator smoking like it had just caught fire or over heated. the smoke cleared and i tried starting the car but it would not crank. i had to have the car towed. this happened without warning.
The electrical system on this vehicle shuts the vehicle down when the battery isn"t strong enough to support the computer. this happens while driving. causing loss of steering and control of the vehicle. the traction control shuts off and because the engine shuts down the power steering is gone and the power brakes . this happened to me coming around a sharp corner of an off ramp. i lost all control of the vehicle and almost went off the road. i called the service dept. of my dealership and they told me this is common when the battery charge isn't powerful enough to sustain the computer. but there are no warning signals or anything within the car to tell you the battery is low. i did a system check when i pulled over and the system said "ok". i feel this is a serious safety issue. some one can seriously be hurt or killed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power and there was a burning odor present. all the warning indicators illuminated. the contact did not observe smoke. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator burned out and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system); however, the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Faulty door latch that caused driver side window to open and close intermittently and drain the battery while engine was off.
Alternator failed on my drive home from work (mix of highway and city roads) and also damaged the battery. required tow and replacement of battery and alternator. it's not just the 3.6 because mine is a 5.7 and i read others had it happen too.
Driving in rush hour traffic on a busy city street had an alternator issue on date listed above in my 2011 dodge challenger with only 34,500 miles. the abs, trac control, battery saver, seat belt and other dashboard lights came on and off then the car shut down and would not restart. battery is less than one week old. as i am out of warranty, and aware of a recall on alternators in certain 2011 chrysler vehicles i called chrysler and they took an incident report and conceded to me that although the alternator is the same manufacturer, voltage, model and part number they would not honor the open recall because my engine is the v8 5.7 liter and not the v6 model. i am worried the dealer will also fail to honor the recall and not repair my vehicle. this is despite the fact that i had taken my car to the dealer several months prior and asked them to check on a loud whining noise coming from the engine compartment. i believe that noise was the failing alternator. they told me the noise was a result of my removing the plastic engine cover the car came with- what nonsense. the p60 recall needs to be expanded to all 2011 dodge challengers using this alternator not just the v6 models.
I have 39,000 miles on my v-8 hemi 5.7. the car began making a whining noise in november 2015. dealer found nothing. headlights would dim and windows became sluggish to roll up/down. january 30, 2016 it wouldn't start. thank god it was parked at the time because everything went dead and immobile. i told the dealer to check the alternator (i'm not a mechanic) and they found the alternator was bad. i've been told there is a weak "clutch" plate or pulley in these alternators and some are beefing this area up on the rebuilts but still only guarantee them for 3 years. the v-6 has a recall on the exact same alternator and i feel the v-8 for this year should be included. with labor the dealer wanted 590.32 to repair as it wasn't included under my extended warranty with moss bros. unreal! how can you recall an exact same part for one and not the other?
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the engine stalled while all the lights illuminated. the vehicle was not able to restart. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 63,666.
Car is making a winding noise under hood, smell strange odor. car stall when i stop beed jump
My 2011 dodge charger v8 has less than 45k miles and my alternator went out this week, i did research to find out there is a recall but only on the v6 engine, not the v8. the v6 and the v8 models have the same 160amp alternator, both the models need to be added to the recall.
Since we bought the car during moist weather moisture gets in window mechanism causing windows to malfunction by continuously going up and down about a half an inch. this keeps happening until the battery drains. this only happens when car is parked. putting windows down does not help and dealers are wanting to charge $500 for a "brand new" already defunct system.
Strange noise coming from engine , resulting in power failure. i was able to pull over to a gas station and call aaa. aaa gave my battery a jump but they told me that the alternator is dying and unable to recharge battery. looks like there's a recall for 3.6l engine for alternators, but i have a r/t v8 and i'm having the same issue. this should also be included in the recall as this is dangerous and sounds like the exact same issue .
I was driving down the freeway and my drivers side window started going up & down. i took it into the dealership they ran a diagnostic & said it was the door module & switch they both got replaced & i still have the problem plus if connected it kills the battery.
Driver side window keep going up and down i have took it to the shop one time before and it keep doing it costing me more money the first time it killed my battery i have to leave it cracked so it won't run the battery down and battery are not cheap over $200 then had to pay the shop.now got to take it to the shop again.
The car died while driving down a city street losing all power and functionality. i recieved a safety recall notification for the alternator at the beginning of the month, i am assuming that is the issue.
Dodge challenger rt alternator drained battery until the car shut down while i was in motion. lost all power brakes and power steering.
I was driving my vehicle and was waiting to make a left turn at the intersection. my battery appeared to be losing power and i lost my power steering. i believe the alternator went bad which led to the battery dying while driving, causing me to lose power. this was dangerous as i could have lost power and may have caused an accident. i will be taking it to a mechanic to get the alternator replaced. i see dodge has some recalls on alternators but not sure if it applies to my vehicle
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge challenger. the contact stated that the driver side window was functioning independently and caused the battery to drain. the window had to be cracked in order for the vehicle to be energized. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor in the window needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
While driving my car it would lose power. i could not accelerate. i can not always restart it right away. it got to the point i was unable to restart it and it had to be towed

I was driving home on 4/17/15 in my 2011 dodge challenger when all the warning lights on the dash started flashing, the radio was going on and off, the lights went dim, but the scariest thing was the car suddenly lost all power, it was still running but it acted like it was on 2 cylinders, almost got rammed by the car behind me!! had car towed to dealer, will call them tomorrow.this is a very dangerous flaw in the system and will result in future loss of life if not corrected!!!! *tr
I have 2 recalls pending on my dodge challenger, one for front airbags failing and one for the alternator diodes possibly causing fire. dodge wants to take my car for 2 days but i have no other vehicle. i asked how was i supposed to get home, they said a bus or taxi. i am not taking a taxi an hour ride to get home, then to and from work because they want to recall my car, so i asked for a loaner and was told no. i keep calling their recall assistance center, and they tell me that their system is down and to call back at another time. how is their system always down? why do i have to spend money out of pocket on a temporary vehicle so they can fix their own recall? i can't afford to rent a car or use a taxi (busses don't run through my area). so i take off of work and possibly get fired, or continue to drive a defective vehicle and possibly die? *tr
2011 dodge challenger. consumer writes in regards to the alternator recall notice and seeks reimbursement for repairs. *smd the consumer attached the recall notice. *jb
My window constantly goes up and down 1/8th inch when the vehicle is turned off. i have looked online and found 80 2011 challengers recalled for this exact problem, i believe they should all be under recall. the smart glass operation is faulty. every 7 seconds my window moves 1/8th of an inch up or down. this drains my battery and makes my car die. customer satisfaction notification m24 should be expanded to include all 2011 challengers with the smart glass. *tr
Recall repair work was done on the alternator in 2011 dodge challenger. on the following day, the exact thing happened again. all of the dash lights came on and the vehicle lost power. after the vehicle was stopped, it was unable to be started again. the vehicle had to be towed for the 3rd time to the dealership. now they say that there is nothing that can be done because it's not doing it now. dodge is going to get someone killed. dodge customer service and the dealership were useless in attempting to help. they basically told us that since it wasn't doing that now, there was nothing they could do. *tr
