Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2008 Dodge Avenger

As i was traveling 65 mph down hwy 411 in centre, al my car (2008 dodge avenger) completely shutoff. i could barely get my car over to the side of the road due to the steering wheel wouldn't turn. thank god it was 11 p.m on a thursday night because if it would've been during the day this hwy is very busy and i could've caused a wreck and harmed myself or someone else. after i got on the side of the road i tried to start it back up a few times and it finally started back up but it wouldn't stop turning over until i cut it back off. then i tried to start it again and it started but every light on my dash come on. i put it in drive and tried to drive it home but it wouldnt go over 15 mph. i had several vehicles run up on the back of my vehicle and i was actually afraid for my safety. when i got it home i shut it off and it wouldnt start back up. i then tried to start it back up the next morning and the electrical throttle control light come on and i still cant go over 15 mph. this should be a safety recall because i couldve been hurt bad or worse.

I just bought my 2008 avenger. everything worked as normal until i went to warm up my car today and later realized that the passenger side is only blowing cold air. i have researched and found hundreds if not thousands are having the exact issue. the actuators are functioning. the blend door is fine. the heater core itself is fine due to hot air coming from driver side only. this can cause a more electrical problems and malfunctions and should be recalled due to poor heating abilities thus lack of defrost during winter months. i have a small frame i'm able to look out after windshield has been defrosting for over 20 minutes. that's the worst part. the other issue is my cruise control quit working also today while going 75 mph down the highway. i was almost rear ended because once it disengaged, it slowed down tremendously. had i not been quick at accelerating again, i would be putting my car in the shop for rear end damage. whether they are connected or not, i dont know, but it is very strange both issue arouse today.

In motion at random times my electronic throttle control light will flash at the same time i lose all power at any speed.....from coming into my driveway to highway speed 40-50mph to interstate speeds 65mph i was with my very i'll mom who has to travel with medical supplies and equipment and when she is in an accident, and left unable to get to her set destination, would suffer and did finally today ....we had to sit parked for longer that she medically is able to because of this problem with the electronic throttle control. it should be recalled & resolved before someone in my car, or myself, gets hurt or killed. i have had my avenger since february - march 2009 and today is december 2018 and it has happened for over 2 years to me just because i am still alive, don't mean it shouldn't be resolved. again, this happened before i got to the mileage i am now and is still happening. my airbag light stays on and i don't know if it would even work......, if i was to impact from the loss of power that's caused from, the etc. please recall & fix this.

Takata recall....air bag light keeps coming on the entire time driving...2. sometimes my driving lights don't work properly and at the very same time my windshield washer won't work at all while driving. 3. right side heat blows warm & passenger side blows cold wether parked or moving

I was driving when i noticed the red lightning bolt light come on on the dash. then the check oil light came on (and i don't need an oil change) . my tire pressure light had been coming on that day, i assumed bc it was colder that day. as i was driving i was getting into the left turn lane and as i got to the end of the lane and straightened my wheel i noticed i couldn't really turn my wheel. once i got the green arrow to turn, i put my foot on the gas and i wasn't moving. i turned my hazards on put it in park and turned it off when i noticed my car was already off. i started it back up and the lights on my dash went away and it was fine. i've also been noticed the past couple weeks that my car revs up whenever it feels like it. i'll be parked and the car will rev up or i'll be driving a steady speed and my car will just speed up. sometime even when i'm braking to come to a stop my car will start zooming forward.

I was driving home from work and all lights when off and car shut off and i had no control i was driving on interstate

I've already had to replace the power control module (pcm) once just a year and a half ago, and now i have to replace it again and my car has been out of commission and sitting at a mechanic's repair shop for almost 2 months now after fixing other things first before finally determining it was the pcm again. car will not rev above 2.0 rpm and is in "limp mode" with the service engine light along with the lightning bolt symbol present on the dashboard.

Etc failure ( electronic throttle control ) approx. 100,00o on vehicle, highway going steady 65mph and light came on near total power failure. restarted vehicle seemed to clear itself. took to dodge mechanic the computer says it did not happen.. replaced the (etc) and car is still not operating correctly..i have zero faith that the car is safe. researched this etc issue which seems to be widespread.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while the vehicle was stationary, the rpms increased rapidly without warning. while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle accelerated independently. the contact used a significant amount of pressure to depress the brake pedal and was able to stop the vehicle. the contact stated that the failure occurred on more than one occasion. rairdons jeep chrysler dodge in bellingham, washington was contacted about the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

Gear shift got stuck in park and could not move vehicle. this was a customer chrysler customer satisfaction notification k16. i talked to dodge about this problem and they told me that in october 2010 before i bought the car the dealer checked the gearshift and determined it was safe and did not need to be reinforced. obviously it did. the repair cost $342.54. as i've seen on the internet this happens to many dodge avengers and is a safety concern.

My car is having all of the same problems that the vehicles form the tpms recall had. my car isnt covered under the recall though. the cruise control wont work, the battery just goes dead, the remote start sysyem wont work, sometimes the engine wont start, the radio stays on all the time if you dont manually shut it off, the air bag light is on even though there is nothing wrong with it. i feel as though since my car has all the same problems and i have seen many more complaints from others on this site and other websites that the recall should be reevaluated and expanded to cover more of the same year of vehicles. please do something about this for all of the owners having problems.

My avenger is very dangerous and i'm trying to get rid of it because i fear for mine and my children's safety. on several occasions the vehicle has stalled while at idle and even once while i was accelerating on a highway- doing over 60 mph. it also continuously has accelerated on its own, either when slowing down or speeding up it will jump rpms and take off on its own. while going through a school zone the car accelerated on its own and i came very close to hitting two 5 yr olds crossing the road. i've had electrical problems, as the check engine light will come on and off on its own and just recently the combination switch stopped working completely, almost causing me to be rear ended. i've called dodge and they want $100 just to look at the car, which i cannot afford after dumping many dollars into trying to fix these life threatening issues. i've had it seen there before and they said nothing was wrong when i paid over $500 for repair work. i'm fearful for my life while driving and its caused me much stress and anxiety. i've spoke to several other avenger owners that experience the same problems in which their only option was to trade it in because they couldn't afford to buy a new vehicle. i personally would junk it myself because i would never want to jeopardize another person or their children's life, however like everyone else i can't afford it and will probably have to trade the "problem" down to some unknowing of the risks and dangers of the vehicle. after spending thousands of dollars for what i thought was a reliable car i am left driving a lemon, taking prescribed ativan for anxiety because i am constantly in fear of driving the thing, and unable to sell because nobody wants it. this car had wrecked my life, and i only want dodge to take responsiblity. it's a shame to know that i am putting everyone's lives in danger & it's taking a toll on my health.

The electronic throttle control light will flash while driving at any speed and the car loses power, to which i am forced to pull over and restart the car. now i am having battery issues with the car as well. i have reported this once before and have had no offers to fix the problem. now that my daughter is driving the car i am forced to report this again. i feel it is only right for dodge to recall and fix this. other dodge owners have reported the same issue. it may have not caused an accident yet, but why wait until it does?????? i dont always have a safe spot to pull over to restart the car. it is very scary. it has happened several times in the last 6 months.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the intake manifold and the sensor switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 102,798.

Tire pressure monitoring system short circuits leading to faulty readings on gauge, cruise control won't operate at speeds over 40 mph, radio constantly skips from one station to another, etc. contacted chrysler about the recall on this (recall #: 08v152000) asking to have it repaired free of charge, but they refused. these issues occur when the vehicle is both stationary and mobile.

My son purchased his 2008 avenger used in 2014 from oklahoma. he is in the military and while deployed i am maintaining his vehicle at the local dealership in michigan with oil changes and service. while driving at 55mph on the freeway the tpms light came on then the cruise control turned off. then the engine light as i was exiting the freeway the engine stopped. i started the vehicle which stalled at every. intersection and on turns would stall putting me in the opposite lane. when looking up recalls it showed the exact problem. i took the vehicle to the dealership. they stated no recall on this vin# and the problem is his timing chain and of course the fee is 1500.00 dollars. it seems fiat chrysler is trying to do everything not to fix these older models.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. in addition, the cruise control failed to function. the electronic throttle control (etc) and check engine warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power train control module (pcm) needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Could not use cruise control then air bag light came on and would not go off then it was hard to turn the steering wheel took it to my mechanic he found it to be the clock spring he tells me he's not sure if i have a accident the air bags are going to work and i could end up not being able to turn left or right in my vehicle the estimate is for 1000.00 i don't have that. if its that serious there should be a recall or investigation into this problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the etc warning light illuminated intermittently. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle speed decreased. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on several occasions, but the failure was unable to be replicated. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while attempting to accelerate, the engine would rev but the vehicle would hesitate to respond before surging forward. the vehicle was taken to an independent transmission specialist who diagnosed that the electronic throttle control was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000.

Throttle position warning indicator (red lightning bolt) lit while at highway speed, sudden loss of power, could not drive vehicle over 35 mph. problem happened twice during a two week time frame, during cold/ snowy conditions. *tr

I took my car in on january 21, 2015 because my airbag light was flashing again but this time it's a clockspring and [xxx] at dodge told me that is not safe to drive the car like this because airbags wont work, my cruise control doesn't work and he said more things will fail. i think this should be on the recall list but it isn't. there is no way that i can have it fixed because i get $800 a month and to replace that part is $579.30. is there anyway to put this part on the recall list because it's not safe to drive. thank you *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle lost all power. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to repair the failure. the vehicle was then taken to an independent, who diagnosed that the electronic throttle body control failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Electric throttle- i was driving at 35 all of a sudden my car loses power and my etc lid up and my car slowed down, good thing i was able to merge to the side and stop my car. radiator- ever since i had my etc problem my car has been heating up. *tr

This has happened several times but today was the worst. the car has lost power several times in the rain mostly when making a turn or slowing down. this time i was driving no rain and the electronic throttle control light starting flashing. i was on the high way and noticed i couldn't accelerate. i started to slow down and move to the side of the road where it just lost power. thank god i was able to pull over because there was a lot of traffic and i would have been hit. also my son usually drives this car. this has happened several times to him and when it stalls you loose all power steering and brakes. it is really dangerous. we have had it to the dealer twice and they cant duplicate the problem so according to them there is no problem. i have been reading others complaints and they all seem to be the same issue. also the airbag light keeps coming on. is there any resolution to this issue. it seems that people have to die before issues get resolved .i hope dodge will issue a recall before that happens. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle's speed decreased to 10 mph and the power indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact turned off the vehicle for 10 minutes, but the vehicle would not restart. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic who stated that the electric throttle needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 95,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the electronic throttle control light illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle onto the emergency lane and restarted it. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000.

Battery light warning came on, cruise control stopped working, car would no longer shift or was drivable. this occurred on the freeway and we were almost hit. once stopped the car would not turn back on. this appears to be connected to either recall h07, which may be recurring, or to an item that should be recalled relating to the electronic throttle control. there are multiple incidents regarding this item. i've had several completed recalls that don't appear to have been completed or are recurring. *tr

This seems to be a common occurrence as i have heard this same scenario amongst many dodge owners. a few days ago, my 2008 dodge avenger suddenly stopped accelerating as my foot was pressing the gas. it dropped down to a speed of 45mph and would not let me accelerate above this. the dash board also displayed a red lightning bolt . when i looked in the manual it advised that i get my vehicle serviced immediately and that it was an issue with the electronic stability control, most commonly this is described as the electronic throttle control. given that my complaint resembles that of many others both on this sight and across dodge forums, i would feel it necessary for a recall of this part. *tr

Was driving down the highway and noticed a delayed response when pushing down on the accelerator, moments later i was unable to accelerate and the car's electronic throttle control light appeared. the car was unable to go more then 15 mph. i had to have the car towed. i did not receive a warning before this happened however, i did notice my car stalling a little bit a day prior to this happening. i see i am not the only person with this problem, now i have to see how much money this is going to cost me. i am a college student and need my car but not this types of expense and safety risks it comes with. there are 125,000 miles on the car at this time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and could not be restarted. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 138,000. updated 4/28/14*cn *tr

The electronic throttle control and the engine light are constantly coming on and going off. this has been going on for two weeks now. i called a dodge dealer and they told me that the recall for this very same issue is not for my car. my vin supposedly is not in the sequence chrysler decided to recall. i don't know what to do. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the accelerator pedal vibrated abnormally as the rpms rapidly fluctuated and the interior lights became dim. additionally, the vehicle would not accelerate over 10 mph. the failure recurred as the contact traveled at various speeds. a local mechanic performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the throttle body. the throttle body was cleaned in addition to the air filter and the battery being replaced however ,the failure was not corrected. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 71,000.

The electronic throttle control on my 2008 dodge avenger broke. this is a known problem to dodge but they have a 2 to 3 week back log on the part to fix this problem. now i don't have my car for 2 to 3 weeks and i now have to rent one. if this is a known problem why hasn't a recall be placed on this part? why if this is known do they have such a back log on parts. if this is a known problem why am i paying for a rental car? this is a total lack of customer service on a corporation level. this is not the first car i have had this kind of problem with when it comes to dodge products. as a loyal dodge driver for the last 20 years this is the last straw. their incompetence as a company can no longer be overlooked and brushed away. when will they accept responsibility for the product they produce and stand behind it? although i expect dodge to do nothing as usual they have just lost one more customer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle began to lose power as the check engine and the throttle warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic where they stated that the spark plugs and coil needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the throttle warning light remained illuminated. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 23,500. the vin was unavailable. *tr

Was coming to a stop off of the interstate and all of a sudden lost speed power. was unable to go over 10 mph from my stopping point. the etc light was flashing. i have not yet taken it to a mechanic. i did shut the car off and restarted and it seems to be running fine now .... but will this happen again? *tr

I was driving on the highway going 55mph and the electronic throttle indicator light came on and my car failed to increase speed and started to jerk slightly. the rpms then jumped from 1700 about to over 2500 then started pushing 3000 and wouldn't go down until i was off the highway and going 30mph. my rpm was still around 2500. i was able to pull over and turn my car off and that seemed to fix the issue, until i needed to go on the highway again. everytime my car went to shift to a higher gear when i was hitting between 50 and 55mph it would happen. it took my car to a mechanic who told me my car was undrivable because this would ruin my transmission. i now have a completely dead car due to the part i need being nationally unavailable. *tr

We have experienced a drop in rpm's in wet weather, mainly at lower speeds during a deceleration mode that felt like the vehicle would die. a slow response to a panicked foot was always what happened. this began at approx. 25,000-30,000 miles. never while in the dealer repair shop. while driving our 2008 avenger, there was a rapid deceleration that occurred accompanied by the etc light coming on and flashing. i applied gas and nothing happened, then a split second later, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, etc light went out. i slowly accelerated to 55 mph and noticed that the rpms were higher than usual (3200) for the speed and also felt a hiccup or cutting out feel. i thought that i had lost 4th gear? my husband and i are seasoned auto service advisors & are very much in tune with our vehicles. along with the aforementioned issues, now at freeway speeds, rpm's will drop; while the engine feels as if it will cut off & etc light comes on, then goes out. i have done extensive research & found on this nhtsa website, approx. 90% of complaints for like vehicles to be exact or similar to what we are experiencing. i stopped looking after 5 pages.(95% of 1st 5 pages are filled with like concerns). i will be contacting the chrysler corporation as well. why an official recall has not been announced, befuddles me. i hope this obvious safety issue does not get ignored any longer. 110,000 is on the vehicle odometer now. the mileage we have on our vehicle is a similar common denominator that is easily seen on the other etc related complaints for 2008 avengers. *note-stop light sw. & accelerator position sensor have been replaced per recommendation of chrysler technician. this made no difference. (except in our bank account). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled as a lighting bolt icon illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic, who stated that the throttle control body needed to be replaced. the contact did not replace the throttle control body. the contact did not call the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 75,000. the vin was not available.

While i was driving home from work i was driving approx 50 mph and i lose power and my electronic control throttle light came on. i couldn't go faster then 5 mph and my rpm wouldn't pass 2,000 i pulled over on side of road turned off the car and try to restart but it would only run for a few seconds and cut out again. my home town mechanic said that the issue was the throttle body. the total cost in repair is roughly 500 dollars, and reading online there are more drivers out there having the same issue. i think dodge should do a recall on there 2008 dodge avengers and up. *tr

While driving, vehicle immediately malfunctioned, preventing rpm in excess of 2500rpm and capping speed at 5mph uphill or 30mph downhill (incline dependent). at this time, electronic throttle control light appeared on dash. since this time (3 days so far), the vehicle has been inoperable. attempts to determine the cause of this malfunction by searching the internet have shown numerous other consumers have had similar problems, particularly with this make and model (2008 dodge avenger), and attribute it to a problem with the throttle body - either throttle body itself, throttle position sensor, wires leading to throttle body, electrical control of throttle body, i.e. whether malfunction is battery-life-dependent, etc. *tr

My dodge avenger had a throttle control light illuminated on the dash when first starting the vehicle. thereafter, the car first would not go over 20 mph. later this problem progressed. the car only had a small amount of power. it could get up to 30-40 mph on flat areas but struggled to maintain 5 mph on inclines. the vehicle would also shake violently when the transmission was in gear but the vehicle was stopped do to engine vibrations. i have replaced the part and the car is still havin the same problem. at this point i'm not sure how to proceed. *tr
