Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2018 Chrysler Pacifica

Vehicle exhibited "unintended acceleration"; the engine and vehicle suddenly accelerated on it's own while making a slow (10 mph) left hand turn. vehicle lurched forward and accelerated. acceleration lasted for a few seconds after i applied the brakes but did stop accelerating at that point. i was able to stop just short of a parked car i was trying to park behind. this is the only time this has happened before or since the incident. note: i am an ex powertrain calibration engineer so i know unintended acceleration from my previous employment. also, my foot was not on the gas pedal when the incident happened. and there was no floor mat interference (pedal physically can't reach the floor).

Van will randomly not start after just being driven. dash board lights up and engine clicks but will not turn over. several messages come up for service. (see pictures attached.) has happened once before about 2 weeks ago and there's no explanation as to why it started back up after about an hour of problem solving. battery was fine. headlights, horn, inside lights and radio all worked fine. when clicking on parking brake button, the lights flash on the dash and can hear clicks but won't turn on the brake.

2018 chrysler pacifica. consumer writes in regards to vehicle stalling. *ld the consumer stated the battery was dead upon purchase. the dealer replaced it. a week after purchasing the vehicle it would not start. it had power, but the key fob could not be detected. the sliding doors reopened after being closed. the vehicle applies the brakes when reversing or going forward as if to stop a crash. the vehicle jolts/lunges and rolls a little when shifting gears. the engine rattles for a few seconds after the vehicle was shut off. the vehicle stalled/idled and shut down while at a stop sign and in traffic. the dash displayed engine stop start system malfunction. *js

Coming home from church, a neighbor was out washing his car, as he moved toward the road i began to apply the brakes and the engine sped up to a higher speed. after i stopped the car, i looked down to see my right shoe was on both pedals. this had happened three times before. my son went out and checked the brake fluid and found it at the minimum level. he topped it off to the maximum level. my son believes that will take care of the problem. but reporting it might be better for others. since i had taken it into chrysler a couple of weeks ago and they said they had preformed a 32 point safety inspection, i did not see how the could have missed the low brake fluid, or have not topped it off. it seems the brake pedal is up higher than the gas pedal by several inches when the car is first started, but after several miles - more than 11 miles - it loses the height it started with. the vehicle was moving at less than 20 mph on a subdivision street. this had happened three times before, while pulling into a parking place or driveway, moving at low speed. each tim after having driven a longer distance than normal. over 11 miles. the brake pedal had gone lower to the floor and was at or below the level of the gas pedal. if this is to be expected, the brake and gas pedal are much too close together, only 3 inches between them, and this is then a problem.

Many times when i or my wife have pressed the brakes the van surges forward or lunges forward. very scary. happens a lot. it feels like when we press the brakes the electric engine just for some reason turns on and pushes the van forward, fighting the brakes. it is crazy. happens at least once a week.

While using the park assist feature to park perpendicular my van started to backup too fast and backed me into a parked car prior to being able to hit the brakes in time. it resulted in damages to both my van and the parked car that it was attempting to park me next to.

Engine shuts off while driving, message displayed to turn off car and turn on again because of electrical failure. brakes lock and car stalls until vehicle is set back to park and restarted.

This morning my 2018 hybrid limited was dead. i purchased it new three weeks ago. it had been plugged in overnight using the 110 charger that came with the van. it would not start, and briefly flashed some kind of service needed warning on the screen. then the screen turned off and the vehicle repeatedly made a clicking sound. the van was completely unresponsive. i noticed the windshield wipers were ever so slowly in motion back and forth. i checked the switch but the wiper was set to the 'off' position. none of the wiper controls would change the setting. the dealership set me up with a number for chrysler tow. i was on the phone about 20ft away when suddenly the van started rolling backward down the driveway and into the street! i ran over and checked it and still everything was unresponsive, the wipers no longer moving however the parking brake button, and shifter buttons, and overhead lights were flashing. we had the van towed to the dealership. they said the battery was bad and replaced it. below is a post about my experience with more information and videos: https://www.pacificaforums.com/forum/433-2017-chrysler-pacifica-phev-hybrid-general-discussion/41697-battery-dies-pacifica-hybrid-rolls-out-driveway-into-street.html also here is video taken immediately after it rolled. note the interior lights actively flashing including the parking brake indicator as well as the digital shifter knob lights. https://youtu.be/6_ly7blnjns https://youtu.be/jfcp0idbfqi also, after researching online i found someone else who also had the brakes disengage with 12v battery issue.. her experience can be found here (see post #3): https://www.pacificaforums.com/forum/433-2017-chrysler-pacifica-phev-hybrid-general-discussion/40261-brand-new-hybrid-completely-died.html chrysler needs to address this serious and dangerous issue!

While driving my 2018 pacifica in 45 mph traffic on a local road, the car flashed 'stability control' and lost all power. the brakes went hard, the car completely stalled. the display read 'stability control' then disappeared from the screen and it instructed me to put car in park and to restart the car. the second time this happened i was driving 50 mph on a state highway slowing to make a left turn when the vehicle did the exact same thing as stated above.

Was using park assist and the car did not park itself correctly and hit another car. while using park assist feature the car started to move too fast and the sterling wheel did not turn the car correctly. the car was moving so fast, there was no time to press the brake. in the result our car hit another parked car and jumped on the curb. in the result our rear bumper and rear door were damaged. we contacted chrysler right away to tell what had happened, the representative told us to contact our insurance and then insurance will do investigation. when we contacted our insurance the representative said that chrysler is the one who does the investigation. after that chrysler was contacted by us numerous times, each time different representative, each time some information was missing from the case that investigation team could not start to do their investigation. so, each time i spoke with the representative (i have their names) we were adding missing information, and creating new case number. it took almost a month for the investigator to contact us to do the car inspection. by this time the car was fixed thru insurance. after the inspection took place chrysler did not send us any solution or suggestion if park assist needs to be fixed. the only letter they send stating that since the car was fixed nothing they can do about this issue. so its unclear either all features in this car function properly. i think it's not fair that my insurance had to pay and made this accident as my fault

Was parking my car using park assist feature. the car speed up and crashed the rear bumper into another car.

After driving the van in reverse, the typical process is to stop the van, put it into drive, and begin going forward. occassionally, however, within a few seconds of shifting into drive the can very abruptly and dangerously engages the emergency parking brake and i become stuck on the road scared to drive and in the middle of traffic! applies to 2018 chrysler pacifica hybrid touring l

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 chrysler pacifica. when the contact pulled into a parking space, the brakes did not stop the vehicle and the gear did not shift into park. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a wall. the contact had to pump the brake pedal a couple of times until the vehicle stopped. the contact sustained a minor injury that did not require medical attention. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was damaged and driven to suburban chrysler dodge jeep ram of garden city (734-421-5700, located at 32850 ford rd, garden city, mi 48135), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the dealer suggested that the contact might have depressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
