Problems with 2018 Chrysler Pacifica ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On average, the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and its various aspects after 10 825 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2018 Chrysler Pacifica

My van's radio will randomly play a high-pitched tone and will not stop until the car is turned off. it is very distracting while driving and has happened randomly over a dozen times. nothing seems to turn it off. i took a video and shared it with the dealer but chrysler will not repair/replace the radio. unfortunately, the radio controls almost everything in the car.

Vehicle was at red light when started to smell something burning then smoke from the hood and vents inside the van. then when the hood is popped tithe flames got worse. the fire started on the right rear side of engine compartment around the radiator reservoir.

The sliding side doors and rear tailgate open when i'm driving the vehicle!!!!! also when you push button shut the side doors they shut, then open again repeatedly, no obstacles or debris in the tracks, this is purely electrical on a vehicle that has 42,000 miles. the back tailgate opened today on my wife while she was driving, this vehicle has not been in an accident orw water damage either.

The van stalls at all different speeds. losing all control ad having to coast off to the side of the highway because the car has completely lost power. when i am accelerating, the vehicle is jerking around 10-20 mph, almost like a violent jolt. (at times seems like someone is rear ending us) the dealership says that everything is functioning as it should be. this makes me extremely concerned for the safety of my family and my kids. this has happened numerous times. also the sliding doors open and close on their own. my 6yo was nearly caught in one as it closed. i have video of the car stalled in a parking lot as well.

26 june 2018, i leased the 2018 chrysler pacifica with the s appearance package vin: [xxx] from ourisman chrysler jeep dodge ram of alexandria, 5900 richmond hwy, alexandria, va 22303. first complaint: on thursday, june 28th at 8:51am i reached out to [xxx] explaining to him the console was shorting out and at one point it had completely shut-off. . he instructed me to bring it back in and have it replaced so that chrysler would have a record of the issue. -- this issue happened within days of purchase. second complaint: on monday, oct 1, 2018 the same 2018 chrysler pacifica with the s appearance package stalled, then shut off while driving home from real estate class (6 months pregnant). suddenly for no reason, without warning the vehicle lost all electricity (including power steering, engine, interior and exterior light.) right after flashing the following error: ?service electrical stability control, park brake unavailable, battery light, enter auto theft code, stop safely vehicle will shut off soon and other numerous errors. as the van slowed to a crawl, and passing vehicles drove by nervously trying to avoid hitting me, i edged off into a school parking lot. my vehicle was towed to ourisman chrysler of bowie md, 2406 crain hwy, bowie md third complaint: on sunday, dec 8, 2019 the same 2018 chrysler pacifica with the s appearance package stalled then shut off on my husband, again, suddenly for no reason, without warning the vehicle lost all electricity (including power steering, engine, interior and exterior light.) right after flashing the following error: ?service electrical stability control, park brake unavailable, battery light, enter auto theft code, stop safely vehicle will shut off soon and other numerous errors. fortunately, my husband was able to coast it into the garage as it shut off, never to start again. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the entire theater system failed and the backup system would become stuck in camera mode while driving. the failure intermittently occurred. the contact stated that the software on the tv monitor and the video module under the passenger seat were replaced and updated at coast auto center chevrolet (530 chetco ave, brookings, or 97415, (800) 342-9438). the contact stated that the failure continued and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times. the contact stated that the same dealer attempted to repair the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. the contact wanted to know why the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v886000 (equipment, back over prevention). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided numerous unknown case numbers. the failure mileage was approximately 36,000. the vin was unknown.

I have just bought a chrysler pacifica 2018 and im very upset with the purchase. the sliding back doors open again when they are about to close. i have to try several times by pressing the button on the door until it closes. each time i have to do it about six times and it's both doors. it is annoying and should not happen because it can become a danger on the road because they can open themselves while driving

Van will randomly not start after just being driven. dash board lights up and engine clicks but will not turn over. several messages come up for service. (see pictures attached.) has happened once before about 2 weeks ago and there's no explanation as to why it started back up after about an hour of problem solving. battery was fine. headlights, horn, inside lights and radio all worked fine. when clicking on parking brake button, the lights flash on the dash and can hear clicks but won't turn on the brake.

2018 chrysler pacifica. consumer writes in regards to vehicle stalling. *ld the consumer stated the battery was dead upon purchase. the dealer replaced it. a week after purchasing the vehicle it would not start. it had power, but the key fob could not be detected. the sliding doors reopened after being closed. the vehicle applies the brakes when reversing or going forward as if to stop a crash. the vehicle jolts/lunges and rolls a little when shifting gears. the engine rattles for a few seconds after the vehicle was shut off. the vehicle stalled/idled and shut down while at a stop sign and in traffic. the dash displayed engine stop start system malfunction. *js

Purchased 2018 chrysler pacifica limited in march 2019. within 2 weeks, two electrical recalls and failure of safety locks and autistic 3yr locked in car. turned car on with ac to cool, took daughter out and put in carseat, closed door and driver door locked. had spare in house. serviced at dealership and told all fine. three weeks later, sunroof would not close, and daughter locked in car again for over 30 minutes. grandmother had to bring spare key to publix. service once again said all was fine. safety locks, we were told, would not lock if key was in car which it was. serious safety issue for my daughter and there has been times engine shut down. *as *tr

Power will be loss including radio frequently. when driving at low speeds such as in traffic the engine will stall and jerk.

While stopped at a red light, the auto stop engaged. when taking the foot off the brake to disengage auto stop, the vehicle stalled out in the middle of the road. multiple attempts were made to restart the vehicle. hazard lights were enabled; however, the entire vehicle eventually shut down, including the hazard lights. this vehicle had been driving on the highway and city streets for the previous 20 minutes without any indication of the impending failure. dealership service department initially believes fault lies with the battery, but how did the car get 20 minutes from home on a dead battery???

When stopped at a stoplight, my car used the stop/start function. when i tried to accelerate, the car stalled and wouldn't let me turn it back on or turn the dial to move it to neutral. it stayed like that for a couple minutes and then i was able to start it, but now i have a light on my dashboard indicating that the stop/start isn't available. i was traveling 500 miles from home on vacation with my family.

The electronics through uconnect shut off randomly or will not all work randomly. we have had the software updated by ourselves and the dealership on multiple occasions. while driving or in park. next, our dash lights would not go off one night no matter what we did to shut them off and ended up killing the battery by morning.

When in motion driving the blind spot detection safety function flashed warnings when there are no cars in the blind spot. then if malfunctioning does not detect a car in the blind spot, i have video showing the problem which usually happen when the outside temp is over 100. the dealer was unable to duplicate.

While driving on a highway during pouring rain, with wipers on high and head lights on, dash and touch screen went off/black for up to 15 minutes then turned back on again. this occurred three times while driving. i was unable to pull over on the thruway and was unable to assess if my head lights were affected as well. we had been driving about an hour when this occurred. the car had been charged fully before beginning our travels that day.

The vehicle has 9700 miles on the od. as it was slowing for a stop as it was still in motion the traction control light came on and the engine shut off forcing the vehicle to abruptly stop. the vehicle had to be placed into park and turned back on to continue.

Multiple engine stalls when slowing to turn or stop, at least 9 times. the engine dies, you have to come to a complete stop to be able to restart the engine. this has happened while turning, while coming to a stop sign or stop light and just while slowing down. one instance of the brakes and steering locking up as i tried to stop at a red light. i was not able to stop and ran through the red light. i had no steering or brakes. when i did come to a stop, i tried to back up to get out of the middle the road and the gear shift was also locked up. the van has a been in for service 5 times and 49 days so far and currently has been at the dealership service department since june 11. took van in 6/5/2019 to comply with recall v53 and on 6/11/2019 the engine stalled again. i have documents i wanted to upload but they exceeded the 5mb limit. also in the "affected parts" section i wanted to select "brakes" in addition to the steering, engine and electrical but i was not able to add another selection.

Electrical and sensor issues. when my 2018 pacifica is started in the morning i receive a fcw (front crash warning) after driving approximately one half mile and stopping at a stop light near my house. i have the gas saver on and my van will usually shut off. when i stop at the light, the console will flash fcw when no objects are in front or near me as well as two other censors flashing. the van completely shuts down and then flashes "start stop required". i then have to place the vehicle in park, turn it off, restart it, then shift back to drive all while in at an intersection. this has happened at least 12 times and creates a risk of being rear-ended. since we purchased the van in august 2018, we have had: the uconnect center replaced on september 7 2018, the radio improperly activated or turned off incorrectly completely draining the battery requiring tow and service on april 12 2019, and the fcw was supposedly repaired on may 21 2019. although it was "fixed" the fcw alert has occurred 3 times since it was returned less than 3 weeks prior.

Was traveling at highway speeds until road construction slowed everything down to stop-and-go. after about 10 minutes of this, we were about to go again and the car just stopped. nothing was working. called chrysler dealership in st louis where we leased the car. they told us there was a way to release the car so we could push it off the highway. didn't work. finally had car towed to chrysler dealership in springfield, il. when we got back to st louis, found a safety recall letter: v53/nhtsa19v-348. am enclosing repair sheets.

Driver's side sliding door repeatedly reopens and fails to close while the vehicle is stationary. this failure occurs intermittently and seems to coincide with a clicking noise that comes from under the dash at highway speed.

On 05-11-2019 my 2018 (purchased nov. 2018) chrysler pacifica touring l plus van was stationary in my driveway (7,000 miles). vehicle would not start. vehicle began giving erratic dash displays, for example it advised that the car was not in park. it advised that the gear shift need service. despite not ever turning on, the vehicle as clearly having a complete electrical meltdown. the windshield wipers engaged. then none of the buttons on the fob, nor in the car were responding. within a few minutes the entire car died. no electrical response. had it towed to dealership today. waiting to hear on diagnosis.

While car parked, turned car on, car stuck in "run" position, unable to change gears, unable to turn car off.

We bought the car as a certified used car from a dealership in february, 2019. the car is a 2018, and had 22,000 miles at time of purchase. the car first stalled in late march, 2019. it stalled while at a red light, and cars had to be directed around the car. my child was in the car with me at the time. an error message appeared with something regarding the stability control. since that first time, the car has stalled at a light 2 more times. we are bringing the car back to the dealer for service. when we called to let the dealer know the issue, they said they've never heard of this happening. i find that hard to believe with so many similar complaints. i am very concerned that this is a known issue that is not being addressed.

Vehicle stalled multiple times requiring shift to park and manual restart. vehicle was at idle in left turn lane of major city road with 4 occupants. vehicle has stalled at low speed in parking lot immediately after stating to move from a stop with 4 occupants. *tr

My 2018 chrysler pacifica car stopped while i was driving. i had slowed down to make a left turn and it shut itself off. it quickly flashed a message about stability control and then showed stop, start, restart required. the car was still in drive. when i tried pressing the brake it was very hard and wouldn't move. i put the car in park and tried shutting it off and restarting it, but couldn't. i had a line of cars behind me, including a school bus and put my hazards on. i'm not sure how many tries it took, but i was finally able to get it to start and drive home. i have since driven the car without incident but i am very nervous that it will happen again. it seems like a huge safety risk.

Problem occurs at slow speeds or when stopped. the car completely shuts off. then we have to quickly switch into park, restart, then switch into drive. this has happened at least 8 times while driving. it is extremely dangerous. chrysler said to turn of front collision warning collision until they have a solution. since that temp fix, the car fail 2 more times on 3/6/19. once while making a left turn it died before the turn was completed, and once more coming out of a parking lot turning onto a main road. this is extremely dangerous and needs to be rectified immediately before someone has a crash. the car just shuts off. the car is only a few months old and it has happened several times.

Vehicle came to a stop and then shutdown suddenly. vehicle would not respond to input and created a potentially dangerous situation and we were stopped in a divided median without power. display says "fcc service required" and then proceeds to say start/stop required and caused the engine to die. required putting the vehicle in park, restarting the engine, and then putting back into drive.

We have a 2018 pacifica that we bought new a year ago. our van currently has 8,000 miles on it. my wife received a warning about a battery fault while she was taking our kids to school. the van then shut off in morning rush hour while she was driving at around 40 mph. the vehicle lost all power and ability to safely steer and brake with the electric assist. she was able to slowly get the van to a stop on a side street. the van is at the dealer now and they have no idea what is wrong with it. i was told the battery appears to be totally flat, but if it was just a simple battery replacement, we would have had our van back by now.

On multiple occasions the vehicle has stalled out while waiting for stop lights and just in a stopped position. in order to restart the vehicle it had to be placed in park. it does start immediately however is a serious safety concern leaving us to wonder if this will occur during actual driving.

In the fall, the entire electrical system failed leaving my car completely inoperable. this happened while driving the vehicle with my kids in the car. thank goodness we were in a safe neighborhood going at a slow rate of speed.it took over a week to "fix" the problem and was give a whole new "computer". on saturday 3-2 at 10:30 pm, i was driving with my children on the ohio turnpike going 70 mph when then power steering failed. i had to pull off the road. i did not have control of the vehicle due to loss of steering and had to pull the wheel hard to the right to get off the road. thank goodness, i was in the right lane. if i were in the left lane on the highway, it would have been potentially fatal. both occurrences could have caused serious injury or have been fatal. we researched the issues and found a nytimes article on these failures. this car has put my family's safety in danger.

The electronic auto start/stop is not working properly. when at a red light the engine shuts off and the car does not start again when the gas is pushed. we have to put the car in park then restart the engine to proceed. chrysler told us this morning that it is a known issue and are waiting to see if there is going to be a recall on it.

Van will stall during low speed or idle. stability/traction control will flash and van will need to be restarted. has happened multiple times in intersections and once in stop and go highway traffic.

Twice now i have been driving and the car has turned itself off. i look at the dash and it gives and error about being in park sense mode. i took it to the dealer and they say i must have had a voltage spike but they can not reproduce the error so they cannot fix it. its pretty scary luckily no one was barreling up behind me when it happened.

This complaint is just one of many i've had. most recently, i've been stalled while waiting at a red light (thankfully) on a city street. i had an error message come on shortly followed by a prompt telling me that start/stop was required. so i had to put the car in park, restart and then car drove. this happened twice in one day and dealer couldn't find anything wrong. left it has protocol passed all recommended checkpoints and that an engineer has to determine fix.

Stop and start system fails with an error saying that the feature is unavailable because the battery is being charged. the battery is not fully charged ever.

On numerous occasions the navigation screen would go black or freeze up. on multiple occasions the uconnect theater would not work. everytime we took it to the dealership said it was fine and didn't investigate the issue. recently, we went to the store made several stops at different stores on our last stop the van would not recognize the keys. we couldn't lock or unlock the van. i had to pull out the emergency key to get into the van. once inside the van didn't recognize the keys. i ended up having to google the issue for a work around to get home. the entire ride there was a display stating that the key was not in the vehicle. we made on more stop and an left the van running. ten minutes later it recognized the key and a uconnect starting working again. the van is a 2018 and less than a year old. this is unacceptable for a new vehicle.

Engine shuts off while driving, message displayed to turn off car and turn on again because of electrical failure. brakes lock and car stalls until vehicle is set back to park and restarted.

While stopped at a stop sign the vehicle's auto stop/start function disabled the engine as normal. when i lifted my foot off the brake to engage engine the car stalled and "service auto start/stop" displayed on screen. then the screen indicated to put the vehicle in park. after i put the vehicle in park i restarted the vehicle and operated normally. vehicle was purchased new and has 1,200 miles on it. i will be taking the vehicle to my dealer for assessment.

This happened on two occasions. i came to a complete stop, and the auto start stop shut the engine off like it's supposed to. however, when this happened a bunch of warnings came across my dash, saying certain safety features were disabled and the car wouldn't respond to the gas pedal. i had to put the car into park and restart my car. i took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong. it happened again after having it back for three days, and they said there was an 'update' for it. however when i picked up my car they didn't give me any paperwork to sign.

The car has lost power on several occasions. when stopped at a stop light/stop sign car shuts off completely and loses power. i brought the car to the dealer last week, they completed an update- however just today the car lost power on a main road which happens to be right in front of the dealer. i pulled in completely shaken as i had my daughter in the car and cars were coming from behind not realizing i am stalled in the road. i have left the car at the dealer. it is so dangerous and scary as i bought this car as a family car and i can't feel comfortable driving it.

While stopped at a traffic light in our town the van shut off and the electrical system starting sending me messages on the dashboard that the lane sense was not operating. i had my foot on the brake and tried several times to move the gear selector to park but it was locked in place. the ignition said it was in the run position which indicates the car should be running but it was not. the brake pedal was firm too, as it would be when the car is off. finally after several attempts i was able to move the gear knob to park and then restart the car. i could have easily been rear ended, this was very scary and unacceptable on chrysler's part.

While driving - slowing to a stop for a stoplight, my car's computer screens started flashing various warnings to restart the engine. at this point, the car was not responsive to the gas pedal / would not move and the power steering was also not functional. i had to put on my hazards, put the car in park and turn off and turn back on the engine.

On sunday january 13th while getting off highway lost power steering while taking exit. due to lack of power steering van went off the road up an embankment and damaged vehicle. i called chrysler on 1/14/2019 and reported issue. claim #57836097. i was told that someone from incident reporting team would be contacting me within 4-5 days. i have since called them again on 1/22/2019 and again today 1/28/2019. i have no choice but to drive vehicle because i am a 100% disabled veteran and in a powerchair. the van is customized for my powerchair and my only means of transportation. the power steering keeps going out intermittently and now other electrical issues are occuring now as well. the passenger side window comes down on its own, traction control light on dash goes on and off, stability warning flashes on dash and of course power steering light comes on and says service. prior to the incident on the highway off ramp the steering went out for a few seconds. i brought it to bonneville dealer in manchester nh and they told me it was just a fluke. obviously it was not a fluke and my van is now damaged. drivers side sliding door does not close right and is bent upwards and not sure what else may be damaged. waiting on chrysler for next step.

This morning my 2018 hybrid limited was dead. i purchased it new three weeks ago. it had been plugged in overnight using the 110 charger that came with the van. it would not start, and briefly flashed some kind of service needed warning on the screen. then the screen turned off and the vehicle repeatedly made a clicking sound. the van was completely unresponsive. i noticed the windshield wipers were ever so slowly in motion back and forth. i checked the switch but the wiper was set to the 'off' position. none of the wiper controls would change the setting. the dealership set me up with a number for chrysler tow. i was on the phone about 20ft away when suddenly the van started rolling backward down the driveway and into the street! i ran over and checked it and still everything was unresponsive, the wipers no longer moving however the parking brake button, and shifter buttons, and overhead lights were flashing. we had the van towed to the dealership. they said the battery was bad and replaced it. below is a post about my experience with more information and videos: https://www.pacificaforums.com/forum/433-2017-chrysler-pacifica-phev-hybrid-general-discussion/41697-battery-dies-pacifica-hybrid-rolls-out-driveway-into-street.html also here is video taken immediately after it rolled. note the interior lights actively flashing including the parking brake indicator as well as the digital shifter knob lights. https://youtu.be/6_ly7blnjns https://youtu.be/jfcp0idbfqi also, after researching online i found someone else who also had the brakes disengage with 12v battery issue.. her experience can be found here (see post #3): https://www.pacificaforums.com/forum/433-2017-chrysler-pacifica-phev-hybrid-general-discussion/40261-brand-new-hybrid-completely-died.html chrysler needs to address this serious and dangerous issue!

During driving the van will shut off. this happens intermittently but consistently 1-3 times per week. most often the vehicle will shut off while at a stop. this happens with both the auto start/stop feature on and off. when releasing the break to resuming driving, the vehicle is off and warning lights on the dash display. "service stabilitrac, abs, etc. it then displays the ignition icon that says depress brake and start vehicle. the vehicle must be placed in park, then restarted. this same event has happened on multiple occasions while driving down the highway at 50 mph. no power steering, brake booster or nothing. chrysler is aware of these issues in the 2018-19 vehicles and we have been dealing with them for 3 months, however they have no resolution proposal and feel it ok to keep this type of liability on the road......not acceptable.

My vehicle has been in for service at least 4 times for the stalling issue. i am either driving at 24mph or less and it just shuts off. off. sometimes im sitting at a light and it shuts off. i have almost been rear-ended 3 times. police have had to direct traffic aroud me twice. my children are scared to ride in it. the media does not always work. a usb plug doesnt work the one used for car play. the rear sensors do not always work. this van is currently sitting in my garage. useless to me. i am not putting my kids at risk any longer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 chrysler pacifica. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power. in addition, the power steering failed and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. also, the emergency flashers were inoperable, the temperature gauge increased to high, and the vehicle failed to engage into gear. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to landmark chrysler dodge ram of atlanta (5745 peachtree industrial blvd, chamblee, ga 30341, (678) 825-3200) where it was diagnosed that two batteries failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact had concerns about the safety of the vehicle. the contact called 911 for assistance during the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 57793693. the failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

We purchased our 2018 chrysler pacifica in early october 2018 and have since put less than 3,000 miles on the odometer. today, while driving on a level rural road near our home, a couple of warning lights started flashing out of nowhere: one indicating that blind-spot monitoring was disabled, and another re: electronic stability control. not long after we started up a hill a half-mile later, the accelerator stopped responding. we were slowing down. then, the car basically stalled and came to a stop. more warning lights and sounds came on, including a check engine light, and one indicating that we needed to service the transmission. then on the display above the wheel, a message said that we needed to turn off the engine to engage the parking brake. we called 911 in hopes of having an officer help direct traffic while we waited for a tow, as we were stopped around a curve and at a high risk of getting rear-ended. the car wasn't responding when i attempted to turn the engine off. i wasn't able to shift the car into park, either (the light above each gear flashed when i tried to shift away from drive). also, the hazard lights wouldn't turn on, and nor would the parking brake (i had to keep my foot on the brake to prevent the car from rolling backward down the hill). as we waited for the tow truck, the lights on the dash continued to flash and the alarms continued on. at some point, i once again tried to turn the car off. it worked. then, when i turned the car on again, only a check engine light came on. the tow truck driver also had no issue reversing the van up onto the bed of his truck.

The car was bought brand new in october of 2018. towards the end of december, the car stopped working. luckily, we were at home when this happened, but basically, the car would not start despite various attempts. we brought it into the dealership and it has since been "worked on" for the past month, but still to get a diagnosis....*bf.. *tr
