We have classified the 178 complaints from 2017 Chrysler Pacifica about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
On a city street vehicle accelerated on its own; subsequently lost power and would not accelerate. warning light; 'electrical throttle control issue' manual recommended turning the vehicle off and on. after that the problem remained--i.e., would not accelerate. coasted downhill to home but could not get up the driveway incline. turned vehicle off and waited an hour. got it up the incline. called dealer service. recommended having it towed. towed to dealer. service tested and could not find a problem. suggested that i had stepped on the accelerator and brake at the same time. don't think i did. or was this the same problem (stalling) that has caused the canadian agency to issue a recall on this vehicle?
The 2017 pacifica caught fire due to a break in the pigtail wire from the air compressor. the air conditioning was not working and when i took it to my local chrysler dealership they told me we had a fire and it had burnt the air compressor, and other parts of the engine and splash guard. the vehicle caught fire and we didn't know when or how until the garage looked at why the air conditioning was not working. i have contacted chrysler as i'm am concerned about this being a safety hazard for other vehicles that they have produced and got no help from them or concern of our safety. i raised that i will concern of the safety of the vehicle and advised i would not let my wife drive this again due to it catching fire and the lack of chrysler concern into looking at the matter.
Leased a new pacifica a few months ago. around the end of february the vehicle stalled while parked. then while starting up the vehicle in march the vehicle information system screen shut off for no reason, this included sensors, back up cameras , nav , climate, radio etc.
Twice the battery has gone dead in the garage. about three weeks apart. could find no reason for this. nothing left on. less than 20,000 miles. i just drove from wi to fl shortly after we purchased. one in wi n three weeks later in fl. the battery was dead. charged two days ago n so far so good but it is a problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving 70 mph, a warning message appeared indicating to stop the vehicle and pull over. all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken to bob howard chrysler jeep dodge ram (13250 broadway ext, oklahoma city, ok 73114) where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and filed case number: 33499447. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 9,342.
I was driving straight on a 25 mph on a city street. within several seconds, my radio, dash lights and engine shut down and the car came to a complete stop. i could not turn my hazard lights on. after several attempts i was able to restart the car and drive it normally.
Van loses ability to go forward while driving. dash lights all come on and engine begins to cough and stutter leaving me stranded in traffic. dash codes include "service electronic stability control, engine light, "parking brake temporarily unavailable," and other dash icons. it will move forward at idle speed only-no accelerator. i have had it towed to chrysler dealerships 3 times and was able to drive it in a fourth. this issue has nearly caused 2 accidents-one of them with the potential to cause serious harm. while moving in traffic the van stops going forward and decelerates quickly causing traffic behind it to have to swerve to avoid hitting it. it has also occurred in the middle of a turn from a stop onto a state highway. this instance required other drivers to swerve into another lane and onto the shoulder/curb to avoid hitting me or vehicles in other lanes. it has occurred immediately when starting the van in a parking lot. it has occurred at low speed in a subdivision. chrysler refuses buyback and continues to tell me to drive the vehicle. all recalls have been done, the pcm has been reprogrammed/replaced 4 times, the "harness" has been fixed/replaced 3 times. both of the sliding doors have had to have the motors replaced on separate trips to the dealership. this vehicle is an electrical nightmare and chrysler is not dealing with it. this began at about 14,500 miles and within the 1st 7months of buying the vehicle brand new. i have been trying to get this resolved for 6 months with no help from fiat chrysler or the dealer- shuman chrysler. they continue to make it run and let me drive it for a short period until it stops again. my family is going to be seriously hurt in this vehicle and there doesn't seem to be any recourse.
The engine shuts off while driving causing the vehicle to come to a sudden stop because of loss of power. the vehicle had to be changed to park before it could be started. this issue happened would happen on a full tank of gas and continuously until the fuel level was ran down.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and decelerate before going into limp mode. while in limp mode, the vehicle would not accelerate past 25 mph. the vehicle was towed to midway dodge (4747 south pulaski rd, chicago, il 60632) where it was diagnosed that the valve body and transmission harness were faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v049000 (engine, electrical system). the vehicle was not yet repaired. the failure mileage was 35,000.
Transmission shifts very hard coming out of first. sometimes when the transmission shifts hard it throws a emergency brake, which causes the vehicle to stop. no matter at a 20 mph or 50mph. not a safe vehicle for a family. sliding doors will lock up at times and will not open or shut. also, the navigation screen rather it's the radio, nav, air shuts completely down/freezes up along with the tvs at times.
We are on our second pacifica after the first was bought back by chrysler due to major electrical issues (vehicle would not start or function correctly, dealer couldn't fix it). now on our second pacifica we have had constant transmission issues...first transmission started slamming into gear (feels like you are being rear ended by another vehicle, this can be at slower speeds < 20 mph while going straight or turning), they reset computer, that didn't fix it, so then they replaced the valve body in the transmission (2 seperate shop trips). a couple months later it started slamming into gear again (slow speeds < 20, turning and going straight), so they replaced the transmission after putting us in a rental for another month, about 6 months later this transmission had the same exact issue, slamming into gear at low speeds (< 20, turning or going straight). so we are on our 2nd pacifica and the 3rd transmission now and are still having the same issue as we initially had (slamming into gear like you are being rear ended at slow speeds < 20 going straight or turning)! there are serious issues with this transmission that chrysler needs to resolve! this is not safe to drive the way it is, because you don't know the situation you will be driving in when it happens.
Engine shut off while driving at approx. 25mph on a snow covered street in the dark. lost all power and electrical systems and was stranded in middle of street with traffic all around. engine restarted after a number of attempts. vehicle had previously been updated with recall to address this issue in january of 2017 (u01/nhtsa 18v-049). contacted chrysler and was told they are aware of the issue and expect another software recall to be ready in april. they requested the vehicle be taken out of service and provided an rental car until update will be made available.
I was driving in my residential neighborhood, i had slowed down at a corner to let a child on a bike pass me by. when the child passed me, i put my foot on the gas and the car moved and then stopped - everything shut off, the lights, the engine, everything. i am not sure what happened next- people behind me were honking like crazy and i it took me a few seconds to figure out what to do next. i put the car in park and pushed the start/stop button and car started again. there was an error message on the dashboard (the a with an arrow and exclamation point), i drove straight to the dealership and left the car with them. the consumer stated the uconnect stopped working as well as the airbag. *js *js
Stoped at a traffic light, the engine auto shut off like normal at a light, but when green light came and gas pedal was pressed, an alert popped up on dash saying parking was engaged. put into park and tried to release parking brake parking brake actually engaged. could not disengage afterwards, foot brake was held while attempting to disengage parking brake. tried turning vehicle off and on with no result 1st time. while engine on, tried to reset parking brake again, holding foot brake, no joy. drive selector would not switch to neutral in order to move vehicle off road. turned vehicle off and on again, then was able to reset parking brake to off and finally put vehicle in drive.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v049000 (engine and engine cooling, electrical system). the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact called a local dealer (alfa romeo of huntsville, 6523 university dr nw ste a, huntsville, al 35806) and was referred to the manufacturer. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to the state's attorney general's office. no further assistance was provided. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available. *tt *tr
Vehicle engine and electrical system shut down while driving 35 mph in traffic. total looks of power steering also occurred. our family with small children also were in the car. this could have been much worse if it occurred at highway speeds on a busier road. once stopped the dash alerted us to shift to park to restart vehicle. we did but car would not start. no attempt to turn over at all. put flashers on and parts of dash, uconnect screen and interior lights flashed also. car has 10,000 miles only and has been relatively trouble free to this point. i see many like complaints on this website and in online forums. to date it seems reading feedback from others affected, even after multiple occurrences and trips to the dealership, chrysler has not identified a root cause or been able to permanently resolve the issue. this is a huge safety issue and we will not drive this car again without a definite resolution.
Twice in the last week my pacifica has stalled at a light. i waited at a red light and when the light turned green, i pressed the accelerator. the engine is on run but dash says shift to park after i press the accelerator. i shift to park then shift to drive and the car won't move. i have to turn the car off and then shift to drive and it will then go.
A month after purchasing the car i started the it & battery light came on. while driving a message came up stating auto start/stop needed to be serviced. another message popped up. when trying to see what it said, all displays started shutting down. heat was going up & down. tried to turn it off but it wouldn't turn off. i was on a busy city street & got off at an exit ramp & power steering had gone out. i made it to my driveway & as soon as i shifted to park it died. tried restarting the car & it wouldn't start. called the dealership. they gave me the roadside assistance # to have the car towed to them. the woman noted my information so that they would know what the car was there for. roadside assistance was busy. i was on hold about 15 min. while on hold, a message came on to fill out a form online & they would get back to me. 10 pm still no response. car was still not starting. called roadside assistance again. they said they never recieved my online request. since the dealership was closed they set up to tow my car the next morning. i received an email from chrysler stating my vehicle's charging system warning light recently indicated there may be a problem with the electrical charging system & to have my car serviced at the dealership immediately. tow truck arrived & the car started no problem or warning lights. they towed it to the dealership. dealership called & rudly asked why i had my car towed. i explained what happend. they said they wouldn't be able to get to it that day. i was never offered a loaner car. following afternoon i called because i hadn't heard anything. they called me back stating they couldn't find anything wrong with the car & to pick it up at. i have seen other people reporting the same issue & find it to be unacceptable to have a new car, only 762 miles, that dies for no known reason. there is obviously a problem that they need to resolve.
While driving 60mph on i-55 on dec 26, 2017 with my sick newborn baby in the van my 4 month old 2017 pacifica stalled on me in the center lane of the highway. i was not able to press the brakes nor steer the car. i somehow managed to move over to the shoulder by jerking at the wheel i barely made it on to the shoulder and the van shut off completely and lost all power. i called roadside assistance only to sit on hold for over 20 mins. i then called the dealership back and they sent a private tow truck out to me. overall i sat for 1.5 hours before help arrived. i was extremely cold and afraid for our safety as semi trucks and cars swerved around me. the van was taken to the dealership and they are reporting that the alternator went out in addition to issues of several electrical codes that came up. again, this is a brand new van that i have only had for 4 months. i called fca on 12/26/2017 and 12/28/2017 to follow up and i am still waiting on a call back.
Pacifica stalling recall i am writing this email to inform you of an issue we have had with our brand new 2017 chrysler pacifica touring. leaving our in-laws the other day, which mind you is directly across the street, we got to the end of the driveway to stop and look both ways ;) and the auto shut off engaged. when we released the break the car never turned back on and but stalled and rolled into the street, park break engaged and left us in the middle of the road. we tried pushing the button to turn the car back on and nothing... the car was still on but not running and wouldn't start. after disconnecting the battery and reconnecting we were able to start the car but none of the gears worked... no gear would engage when turning the knob, the emergency park brake would not dis-engage. we disconnected he battery one more time... meanwhile still sitting t-boned in the middle of the road, waited about 30 seconds and reconnected at which time we were able to restart and turn the knob to low (no other gear would work and the park brake was still engaged, but it moved enough to get us out of the road and into our own driveway. we shut it off and called the dealership who towed it to their garage.they said they flashed the auto shut off feature and have not been able to replicate the problem. i feel it necessary to report this incident as it seems there have been many complaints of this vehicle stalling with no recall. i am concern this will happen again and maybe next time i won't be so luck to be stranded in the middle of the road on a slow christmas morning. please advise me as to where and what i should do next. i will be picking up the vehicle (which i love by the way) tomorrow and crossing my fingers. thank you for your attention to this matter. sincerely, [xxx] vin# [xxx] mileage 1200 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
We purchased a pacifica on 12/21/2017. not even an hour after leaving the dealership the vehicle stalled, losing all power, and had to be restarted to regain power and driving ability at a stop light. we were not hit, but it is very dangerous to have a vehicle that stalls randomly.
I have two occasions where my vehicle stalled. 1. i was driving at 40 mph on the highway and everything went dead, i coasted to a stop on the side and was able to put it in park and restart. the second time i was stopped at a light on a side street, and started to go from a stop to a left turn and the vehicle start to go and suddenly went dead. i put it in park and restarted. no engine lights, nothing to tell me where the problem was. i am taking it in for service.
Chrysler pacifica, 2017 drivers side sliding door open's on it's own,...it has happened when i was in the car and it has happened when i was out of the car....came out of a steak house from eating the drivers side sliding door was open...also,.it won't close all the way when the button is pushed...it goes almost shut then..opens back up..it also will shut on it's own while you are getting items out and it will not open as it should when it detects something in the way, it continues to close and you can't push it back open...you have to get out or the way....if a child was in the doorway it would definitely get hurt...the radio stops working while going down the road listening to it radio/usb either one...you have to pull off the road, turn the car off and start the car back up to get the radio to start working again...the times the doors have come open by their self the van has been stopped..i had just parked and .was walking away from the van and heard the door coming open....went back to shut it....hit the button several times before it would go all the way closed...all of this happens at random....it is not all the time...
Car shut off during driving and told me to shift into park and then restarted and took off fast for a few feet
Car, with no warning, lost all acceleration while driving approximately 35 mph and flashed several warning lights on dashboard including electronic stability control, forward collision warning, service forward collision warning, and electronic park brake failure. in addition, the shifter knob light blinks and switches to 'p'. at that point, i can only drift the car to a stop. in my case i was able to turn the car off, then restart it and the issue did not occur again for another 4 days. after 4 days, the exact same thing happened, this time while i was stopped at a red light. took the car in for service and was told they performed a software update on the transmission and the car was fixed. i got about 1 mile from the dealer and the exact same thing happened while driving at approximately 30 miles per hour. drove car back to the dealer and they have the car now again trying to figure out what is wrong.
With only 7300 miles on the odometer, as of this writing 11-21-17, my pacifica has failed to start on 4 separate occassions. with each event, all the warning lights on the main and radio dash lit up and flashed on and off. also, the wiper blades came on and stayed on, not being able to shut off with the designated switch. as well, numerous "warning windows" popped up on the center dash info screen...service electronic stability, park brake unavailable, blind spot alert unavailable service required, service tire pressure system, park sense unavailable, service air bag system, warning bells constantly chiming, entire dash goes completely dark and radio turns off and on by itself. the last attempt to start, 11-20-17, after numerous times in an hours time, the engine did start only to shut down almost immediately. the vehicle has been towed to my local chrysler dealership twice now and is still there as of this writing. on the first event when towed in, i was told that a service writer also could not attempt to start the vehicle, but when the service tech tried, it did start. i was told to come pick up my vehicle that there were no error codes found and my vehicle was operating normally. i really dread the day when my pacifica dies while driving, as that apparantly has happened to many dozens of other 2017 pacificas already, placing the occupants in extreme danger. i just read an article in the new york times with regards to this dangerous issue and i near the point of demanding that chrysler buy back my vehicle. i do have multiple videos taken on my cell phone but do not have the ability to upload them just yet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrylser pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to texan dodge chrysler jeep ram (18555 eastex freeway service rd, humble, tx) where the failure was diagnosed as a software malfunction. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
While driving with my family, including three small children, the vehicle shut itself off. no electrical, power steering, power brakes or engine. i was able to get it started again after coming to a stop. afterwards the screen said that the start/stop system was disabled.
My wife and i were returning from a trip to an appointment around 2:30 in the afternoon. we just exited off interstate 395 and were merging into traffic heading east on duke street. the light changed to yellow and required us to stop more aggressively than i typically would. we were traveling in a straight line and had to decelerate from 20 mph to complete stop within a matter of approximately 10 feet. once our van came to a complete stop the car shut off. i didn't notice any message on the screen, but when i released the brake pedal, the vehicle started again. afterwards, i thought back to the previous stop and thought i noticed some hesitation in acceleration, but didn't realize it until afterwards. the car was only purchased a month and a half ago and was purchased new. unfortunately i do not have any photo evidence of the circumstances and the vehicle did not present a check engine light. the dealer we purchased from stated they didn't know what we were talking about, but offered we make an appointment and they would check the vehicle.
My wife was driving home from work and slowing down to approach a red light. as she was slowing, the vehicle experienced total systems failure. the touch screen display became scrambled, steering was unresponsive and the vehicle slowed to a stop. my wife was unable to accelerate, shift gears or turn the vehicle off. three police officers pushed the van into a nearby parking lot. during this time no one was able to turn the vehicle off or shift gears. finally, the car essentially rebooted itself and all systems seemed to return to normal. the car was towed to the dealership on 10-27-17, 12 days after purchase with approximately 400 miles. the car has been at the dealership for 6 days now and no problems have been found. they have not been able to recreate the problem and no error codes were found. this means the car has now been in the shop for 1/3 of the time that has passed since we first drove off the lot. this failure is disturbingly similar to numerous other complaints that have been filed. thank goodness my wife was slowing down when this happened or it could have caused a serious accident and even death. i refuse to allow my wife or children back in this vehicle with something so catastrophic happening after so few miles. i have opened a case with chrysler and waiting for them to get back to me. i hope a formal investigation is started soon and chrysler acknowledges the issue to protect the safety of everyone.
While driving, the engine stops and the dashboard and shifter lights start blinking. the message "vehicle must be in park to shift gears" displays on the dashboard. this is incredibly dangerous and has happened 3 times now. our family was almost struck by oncoming traffic. updated 11/9/2017*js
We purchased the vehicle at a local dealership in july 2017. in august, vehicle lost power steering communication unexpectedly. dealership was able to restore power steering, however, they were not entirely sure of the cause. in october, the vehicle lost electrical communication and was stuck on a busy highway off-ramp after stopping at a stop light. we were unable to move the car for 30 minutes. dealership unable to determine the cause and advised us that the car company said they needed to give us the car back. the car has been in the shop for a total 22 of days and nothing was fixed the second time to prevent this from happening again.
Vehicle purchased in december 2016 for $44,000 from safford of fredericksburg. on october 14, 2017, i was driving with my wife, three children and mother-in-law and experienced a loud malfunction that rendered the car inoperable. luckily we were not on the highway at the time and the vehicle was eventually towed to safford of fredericksburg, virginia for repairs. the right front axel had ruptured (total miles on the car were 8,311 at that time). the service agent (jim bogan) noted that this had been flagged on other occasions as identified issues at other service department requiring the next "generation" of axel assembly parts for the repair. shortly after receiving the vehicle, we returned to the same dealership to address a loud girding noise also associated with the right front axel. in early december, 2017 we had the vehicle towed once again to safford of fredericksburg where they again had to repair the right from axel. intermittently and over the past year while these issues were occurring, we continued to experience electronic issues with the sliding doors and rear lift hatch as well. the uconnect entertainment system will also malfunction from time to time. several software updates have been initiated, addressing window and transmission concerns according to the dealership's service department. yet, the vehicle does not function properly, where idle and transmission functioning often appears compromised (rough idle, rough shifting, sudden rpm increases and acceleration bursts when shifting from reverse to drive). i fear this car is not safe for my wife and three young children.
While driving down the road my vehicle experienced complete loss of power. i had to manually steer it to the side of the road. after several minutes it restarted and ran fine. this happened right at 6000 miles and again at 6973 miles, same scenario with both. the doors and radio is also acting odd. i beleive there is some sort of electrical issue. both times before the vehicle powered down i was going 70 +miles an hour, heat came all the way on and power shut down. my star # is 1728582. chrysler told me maybe i was driving to fast???? vehicle us only 3 months old. dealership confirmed they had another pacifica in the shop for the same reason...updated 11/07/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

My wife was driving the car in stop and go traffic on the highway when it stalled out. she lost all power steering and power braking. she had to stop the car completely and put it in park before being able to restart. the problem kept recurring and she was only able to go a short distance each time. luckily she was able to nurse the car off the highway and onto a side street to park it. i went back to the car the following week after it was parked and had the same problem only it seemed even worse. i would start the car, it would drive only a few feet and shut down completely. this happened repeatedly (maybe 5 times) until i decided to park it and call chrysler. called chrysler and they said it had to be towed to the nearest dealer. it was picked up about 3 hours later. they called me about 3 days later and told me that the gas tank had been overfilled and it caused something to malfunction. this seems very hard to believe would be the cause of such a catastrophic failure. they said they needed to replace the fuel tank. about 2 weeks later, they had replaced the fuel tank, canister, valve, fuel cover and fuel module. i picked the car up and had no incidents driving home. that said, i am scared to drive this car or put my family in this car - particularly on the highway. i want chrysler to buy this car back from me. i don?t want to be scared driving it every day...updated 11/07/17 *bf updated 11/13/2017*js updated 8/30/18*jb

My car on occasion had been feeling like it was cutting out, i thought i got some bad gas so i switched stations and noticed it less. then about a month later, it just turned off in route. i was at a four way stop accelerated to go and it started out, i made it into the middle of the intersection and the car turned off. it gave a notice by steering column that it needs to be in park to start engine or something. it did it with about 13,000 miles on it. i was able to start the van after i put it in park with foot on brake and continue on. it happened so fast i was not sure what went wrong? now i read that many have had this happen as well. i am fearful now it will happen when i am going higher speeds, etc. this needs to be fixed!
Driving in stop-and-go traffic (city side street) the car completely shut off when coming to a stop at a red light. no engine, no electronics, nothing. at first, i thought the car was out of gas. had to put the car in park and restart the engine while traffic continued around me. at first, i thought this was a one-off problem, but after reading a ny times article, i became concerned. we have also had electrical problems (rear trunk door will sometimes not open, tv's did not function for some time).
