Problems with 2007 Chrysler Pacifica ENGINE

On average, the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 98 073 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2007 Chrysler Pacifica

My family and i was at the airport when it just shuts off. will start fine but stalls when put in drive(.reverse works) i had to have my car towed from the airport. my mechanic cannot find the problem.

My 2007 chrysler pacifica 4.0 has always ran pretty great, rides smooth. this particular day it jerked and reved to 3000 rpms when i put my vehicle into reverse, i then switched my gear into drive and the truck jerked again then started smoking on the drivers side of the engine. by the time i could park the engine caught fire and spread quickly. i grabbed what things i could before the fire department got there. they had to pry my hood open because it melted the latch to open it and they continuously soaked the whole engine for about 5-7 minutes. fire seemed to originate around the battery compartment area.

Vehicle randomly shuts off while driving without warning of any kind. it's happened 5 times in the last month, it is usually "chilly" out (40f or lower) but we just got the vehicle a month ago so hasn't been warm yet. 2 of the times were while driving on a city street and 3 just leaving our driveway.

Random stalling w/ all functions stopping. brakes, steering..ect. took it to several licensed/certified mechanics and not 1 of them can tell me what is wrong. this has nearly caused 2 serious crashes so i no longer allow anyone to ride in the car with me. the stalling has happened on the highway going nearly 70mph, on a 2 lane highway through town with heavy traffic going approx. 35 mph, its happened in my neighborhood street, on the way home from work on a country road (several times). the vehicle hasn't ever stalled while running and stationary. for me this has only happened while in motion

While driving at low speed or accelerating from being previously idle, the oil pressure warning light and the traction control indicator will simultaneously light up. upon doing so, the engine will lose all power and shut off. this requires the driver to put the car into neutral or park to start the vehicle again. this problem occurring while driving has the potential to cause an accident at no fault of the driver from this loss of control.

Engine will shut off but will restart

I purchased my 2007 chrysler pacifica at a dealer ship in february 2017. i have just had the vehicle for 5 months. the car had everything running and when i say everything running; i mean a/c was working just fine as well as the heater and all windows rolled up and down. i had everything updated on this vehicle. now 5 months later, i have neighbors on 7/25/2017 at around 2pm that witnessed my car catching on fire. how? i don't know and i am confused and worried because i had just pulled up to my home with my fiance. our car caught on fire on 7/25/17 i had to call the fire fighters to come out and put the fire out. this was the most scariest thing i have ever experienced. i am overwhelmed. the fire fighters put the fire out and now i am with no vehicle. i am a single mother of 3 that works a double shift just to make a way in life. i am very disappointed in this experience and fear for my life from here on out. i am scared to drive or get in any car because mind you my car had been driving perfectly fine. i am disgusted at the fact that there are cruel people out here with license dealerships that are able to sell vehicles with vehicles that can cost someone's life. this is not acceptable and i am requesting an explanation to why this happened and i would like some kind of reimbursement for my vehicle. me and my children don't have thousands of dollars to throw away i paid for this car cash. if you need proof of my car i can send pictures and report from fire fighters. i can send you proof of me owning the vehicle. i look forward to speaking with you soon you may reach me at [xxx] my name is [xxx] you may also call me via telephone at [xxx]. thank you for your time. i hope you have a great day! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and the oil and traction control indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000. the vin was unavailable.

The motor mounts continue to fail. keep needing replaced.

My car stops running shortly after driving within a few minutes with zero warning. when this happens the power steering and breaks stop functioning. i have been able to successfully been able to restart the car and continue to my destination. this creates a defiant safety hazard and has happened randomly on multiple occasions. the stalling started at the time when the check engine light and 'gascap' warning message came on - permanently. the mechanics have been unable to fine the problem and there are no computer code readings. has there been a recall for this problem from chrysler?

Stalls while driving, losing steering, braking, lights. too many close calls while driving. have replaced, egr valve along with couple of other sensors and continue to have issue with it growing in severity and occurrences. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. while driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power without warning. the vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to landers mclarty dodge chrysler jeep (256-864-7475, located at 6533 university dr nw, unit a, huntsville, al 35806) where the failure was duplicated; however, the technician stated that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The oil cooler rusted out and liquid poured from it. over heated terribly. part is on national backorder and no one anywhere ha's this part. driving, computer malfunction while driving 55mph threw my car into limp mode. pulling out of gas station, driving maybe 4mph, abs, traction and throttle body light came on and brakes froze. had to throw my car into park to avoid hitting pole. refuses to turn over. hate this car nothing but problems!

The car will stall under 40 mph, almost got t-boned

The suv shuts of while moving. while we are driving (in motion) the suv will completely shut off and we have to restart it by placing it in neutral and turning the key. we have reported it to chrysler 3 times and we have spent $900 to fix the problem but it just happened again 2 days after we picked it up from the dealership. all repairs for this suv were done by the dealership over the life of the suv. we were told that the suv has not duplicated the problem while in the dealership while being repaired and they have said that the vehicle was driven over 100 miles by them without shutting off. if this is true, why did it shut off while my family was driving it 2 days after we picked it up. they are not telling the truth. we do not want to take the car back to the dealership for a 4th time for this problem until we find out what can be done. the truck is in great shape besides this problem that is extremely dangerous and scary when it happens. this is a serious safety issue. there have been other incidents of this very problem with chryslers as well.

My vehicle shuts off while driving no codes

It was raining out and i was decreasing speed pulling into a turning lane, the car lost steering and brakes until i was able to get it off the road and turn it off and restart it.

Shortly after starting and driving the car, within a couple of minutes, the car completely stops running with no warning lights. just dies while driving as if the ignition was just turned off. this has happened multiple times causing a significant safety hazard as the power brakes and steering immediately stop working. the car is under an extended manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty so the repair should be covered as it is a clear defect. apparently, because the car just stopped, no codes were recorded as to the nature of the problem. hence, the dealer was unable to identify a problem. the dealer recommended that the cost of a suspected repair be made by the owner because they could not definitely define the problem as necessary to be reimbursed under the warranty. recommended repair was done at owner's cost yet the same thing happened again. an earlier model of this car had a recall to repair a similar if not identical problem.

Have owned a 2007 chrysler pacifica for almost 3 years now - bought it used and enjoy most features of this car having waited for a few years to purchase one after having recurring (and costly) repair issues with my previous chrysler (cirrus.) however, for the past year, i've experienced intermittent stalling issues with my car - while operating/driving and i am now terrified of the what "ifs" since i thought we'd resolved the issue just over a month ago when replacing my egr valve. this was a huge expense particularly since i've been underemployed for a while now, but then again today while driving with my young daughter the issue happened again!! i too have had my share of being inconvenienced by taking to multiple mechanics and repair shops saying they need to "mimick" the issue in order to find the problem. since this issue occurs intermittently, how is that exactly suppose to happen??? chrysler corporate really needs to step up and address this issue asap since this appears to be a major issue and possible defect on the products themselves used when manufacturing this car and/or a huge defect of this particular make and model of vehicle, in general! chrysler - please hear us before you all are faced with an even larger penalty than the ones used to recently bail you out - please don't make a further mockery of the process by ignoring the voice of your consumer on such a major health and safety concern. to echo the words of another complaint i came across in my research of this specific issue... the price to replace a defect is much less than that of a human life!!

I have had this 2007 pacifica since 2009, bought it with 12,000 miles on it. it now has 109,000 miles. in the past year the car has stalled intermittently when slowing down at stops, took it in, no problem found. it has also had light smoke coming from under the hood intermittently since i bought it, had it looked at several times, no problem found. this week i was driving the car at @30ish mph when it stalled on a busy road, but was luckily able to turn off the road with no power steering safely. it has been at the dealers for 3 days and no problem found at this point. i have children and no longer feel safe driving them in this vehicle. if ther is "no problem" to fix, that is a major problem, because a car stalling waiting to be hit and someone injured, is a problem!!! i have called corporate and awaiting to speak with a case manager about this issue, but from what i have read online, if the dealership cannot mimic the issue, then corporate will likely say there is no problem. i cannot just wait to see if it happens again, and next time on the highway as i have read in other cases, when someone could be hurt! also concerned with the "no problem" when it smokes under the hood, as i have read a couple of incidents where the car caught fire. have a rental car now...hope corporate doesn't blow me off!

Drive at about 60 mph whren my car just shout down . had no sterting or breaks . lucky this is not the first time it has happed and i knew tio put it in neutral and turn the key ,drop it in drave and a awy you go . the other times this has happened to many to count i was slowing down to corner very scary when you cant stop or turn your wheel . no warning lights or signs .

Engine rusts and cradles like if it's going to fall out the car. when driven engine shakes and moves back and forth making a pounding sound. feels very unsafe.

Within minutes of pulling out of my driveway my 2007 chrysler pacifica touring simply shut down. unfortunately, it was a shock to me when i lost acceleration and power steering in the middle of driving and it took me a few seconds to figure out what had happened. i pulled over with some difficulty and put the car into park. i was able to re-start the vehicle and returned home. since that date, my husband has been driving the vehicle as it was our teenager's primary means of transportation prior to the incident. i shudder to think what could have happened to her as she is a new driver and my own reaction to the incident was inappropriate. i should have put the car into neutral and re-started it, but thank god i did live and learn. since that incident my husband has experienced the same loss of power on three additional occasions. i am in constant fear that the car will shut down while pulling out into traffic. it has already happened once. thankfully other drivers were aware and were able to slow down in time for my husband to re-cover. as i have read many other incident reports concerning my vehicle having the same issue, i am hopeful that chrysler will address the problem before someone ends up injured or dead.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the oil warning light illuminated. the failure recurred four times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.

Car turns off while runing at speedway. twice at 4 min. that is nothing new this happens every day most times at the first 5/10 min. of drivingat streets. but today's was after 30 min . there is way i went to express way. i already spend money and to much time at mechanics they cant found whats wrong. but at interner i found this is a common issues whit this type of cars. *js

Several instances of stalling with absolutely no warning at approximately 40 mph. car does start back up but stalls at random intervals. has been seen at multiple shops with no errors, codes or problems found. *tr

We were driving. i asked my husband to clean the windshield. as soon as he pulled the wiper stem, the headlights went out. the car restarted, but the headlights wouldn't come back on. we pulled over again and opened the hood. the car would restart, but now the dash cluster was out along with the headlights. we turned the engine off and weirdly, the headlights came on. they were flashing on and off, over and over. within the next ten minutes the car would start but wouldn't shift out of park. from there the armrest controls stopped functioning, and eventually the car just chattered when the key was turned. then it wouldn't even do that. it completely died. four weeks and $1600 later, we have a new tipm l. the entire electrical system was fried. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. it was very hard to steer the vehicle after the failure occurred. the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter, key, engine oil, and alternator failed on separate occasions. the vehicle was repaired each time; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. after the vehicle was restarted, it only operated in reverse. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front passenger side motor support mounts were fractured and affected other mounts. the vehicle was being repaired for the fourth time. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 84,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. while stopped at a red light, smoke started to emit from the front of the vehicle without warning. the contact merged to the side of the road and lifted the hood. once the vehicle cooled off, it resumed normal operation. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

This vehicle tends to stall at or below 35 mph. have been to independent mechanics and chrysler and no one can seem to figure out why it stalls. when it stalls there is a loss of control of the car and is very dangerous especially when in rush hour traffic. my wife drives this vehicle along with my 3 children. i have seen numerous complaints on this matter and i am quite surprised there has not been a recall. *tr

When we exit the highway the cars stalls and sometimes even lunges. we have taken the car to 2 different mechanics and they say there isn't anything to fix. chrysler even said there isn't anything they can do. i feel this a major safety issue because when this has happened to me i've had my grandson with me and it took 4 tries to get the car to start again. also when driving in rush hour traffic the traffic can stop suddenly which will cause an accident. chrysler has fixed this problem on earlier years of this model, i don't think they want to be bothered with repairing a known issue on a vehicle they no longer manufacture. *tr

At 40,899 miles (i purchased this car new) i have now had to replace the three engine mounts twice (first time at 20,000 miles - under warranty). i am a mature driver who drives this care gently. *tr

While driving, the engine just stopped/stalled. steering, brake and gas pedals stopped functioning. i have to wait until the car fully stopped. scary and feels so helpless in the middle of the road! *tr

I bought this car almost new (it was never titled - chrysler has used it as a corporate car), with 15,000 miles on it. i have replaced the engine mounts four times (the first two times under warranty). on the latest instance, the mounts had been on the car for about 15 months and 28,000 miles. they failed and damaged the right front axle, which also had to be replaced, for a total cost of about $2,500. *tr

Purchased the pacifica touring awd in september/october, 2013. it was in fabulous condition. a couple of months later, i experienced my first of eight occurrences wherein the vehicle shut off without warning. once the engine shut off, power brakes and power steering didn't function properly, likely because the engine was no longer running. five of these eight occurrences have been within one mile of my residence. additionally, it occurred once in a parking lot, once in an intersection, and once as i was getting onto an interstate highway. a few of the occurrences almost resulted in accidents. i was at the mercy of the other drivers in those cases. i have six grandchildren. i'm hesitant to take them on trips because i have no confidence in my pacifica's safety and reliability. my vehicle safety complaint seems eerily similar to numerous other owner's 2007 pacifica safety complaints. i pray chrysler will investigate this issue to determine what is causing the engine failure before a precious life is lost. chrysler, please identify the cause and notify the owners of the fix soonest. it makes no sense to continue neglecting these safety claims. i'm certain $$$ is causing your hesitation to investigate; however, it will seem like pennies compared with the cost you will undoubtedly pay due to negligence in the event of injury or fatality. thanks in advance for hearing my concern, diagnosing the problem, identifying the solution, and quickly implementing your plan to repair the affected vehicles. safety has a price, but human life is priceless.

The vehicle shuts off while driving at low speeds mostly it happens when going around curves. i took it to the dealership they were not able to find any problems with it they just said they could replace the 2 fuel pumps for $900 but could not guarantee that would fix the problem. i did not have the pumps changed. when the vehicle shuts off loss of power assist steering is lost and power assist brakes making it dangerous to navigate to a stop to restart it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the tipm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

While driving my 2007 chrysler pacifica it will stall. this often occurs at speeds less than 40mph. this is a safety concern and when i called the dealer they did not seem familiar with the problem. this could very vellum result in a fatality since there is no warning. the car will loose steering function after the stall and i will need to attempt to pull out of traffic to restart the car. i am uncomfortable that the manufacturer has not recalled this or attempted to correct this problem, which seems fairly common. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while operating the vehicle, a clunking noise emitted from the engine when the transmission shifted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the motor mounts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. the contact indicated that the motor mounts were replaced 2 additional times and each time the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the failure mileage was 119,000. the vin was not available.

The engine will stall while driving down the road, with no warning, this has happened several times at different speeds ( 20 - 45 mph) car is able to be restarted in neutral after it slows to less than 5mph, no engine lights on prior or post stalling. motor mounts replaced and new battery, dealer unable to replicate and no codes on computer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred whenever the contact attempted a turn of when decelerating. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the dealer to have a diagnostic performed however, the diagnostics was unable to generate a failure code. as a precaution, the dealer cleaned the ground cable but the failure was not corrected. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 87,000 and the approximate current mileage was 89,000. updated 6/4/13 *cn

Dealer instructed me that the front and rear motor mounts were cracked on a car with less than 100k miles. this is not covered under chrysler's powertrain or extended warranty. this is a common occurrence with chrysler's motor mounts. *tr
