We have classified the 76 complaints from 2006 Chrysler Pacifica about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
Engine cradle is totally rotted through.engine mounts are bad to.engine about to fall out from rusted engine cradle
The engine cradle is completely rusted through and motor mounts as well.i took into a shop,he refused to fix my idle pulley and told us it's unsafe to drive our 2006 chrysler pacifica.
Sub frame rusted through
When moving from the humid east to the desert west all control arm bushings and motor mounts dried up and cracked causing over the course of a few week tractions problems made worse when getting new tires and after fishtailing in the rain i brought it to a mechanic that found that all rubber components had dried up. i ended up having to change all control arms and motor mounts which where all cracked and broken.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the control arm and vehicle frame were corroded. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to huntington jeep chrysler dodge ram (1220 e jericho turnpike, huntington, ny 11743, (631) 629-6920) where the corrosion was confirmed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 138,000.
The front subframe is rusted threw with a fist size whole .. now i have to pay labor and buy piece chrysler refuses to help knowning the issue they cause could hurt my family an kids driving in this truck is unfar
The chassis that connects under the engine from left front tire to right front tire , was diagnosed by a certified auto repair shop. that the metal was not treated properly to stop the metal from corroding and the possibility of the engine falling or steering compromised ,i was instructed by chrysler in detroit michigan to take the automobile to the nearest dealership zieglers in schaumburg il 60172 , to have a dealer look at it , and the dealer wants to charge me almost $150.00 because they want a case # first but the people we talked to at chrysler in detroit , noeloyn and angelica at 1-800-247-9753 said they were just going to make a notation of it . this problem became known to myself when the temp dropped below 20 degrees around new year day , driving . i heard and felt like something was wrong with the suspension . i took it to a mechanic , who then referred me to a body shop ,elmars on north ave in glendale heights ,il 60139 who said the chassie part under the engine was not coated to stop it from deteriorating, but it is so bad , to not drive it . the engine might fall out and there has been a recall for pacificas from the years before for the same default
Subframe rotting, vehicle well maintained , now scarred to drive that i see that for myself
I had the oil changed on december 20th, 2017, and when i picked up the car, the mechanic told me the engine was ready to fall out. he said the sub frame that supports the engine was rotted out and ready to fail. i was advised not to drive the car in this condition.i was given a quote of around $3,000.00 to fix it. i've been driving for over 50 years and never heard of any car experiencing this problem.
Car mileage 59,698. in december 2017 took my car for a tire rotation as the 2 front tires are showing visible wear and was told by mechanic that my sub frame below the engine is rotted out. and yep saw it for myself. both sides of frame rotted out with visible holes. was told something along the lines of there are cracks or seams which allowed water and junk in but no where for it to exit. was quoted $1600 to replace. very upset as we have to pay for this out of pocket and vehicle is not safe to drive other then very short distances until we can afford to fix it. also we are thinking 2 front tires are out of tread and need replaced was/is caused from the sub frame being defective and throwing vehicle tires out of balance. so as well, we have to purchase 2 new tires. fix i
Engine cradle is corroded through.
Takata recall i was told at 118,963 miles that my pacifica is in desperate need of a new subframe.
2006 pacifica with 105,000 miles. took in for service and mechanic found badly corroded engine cradle. i can peel the rust away and put my fingers in the holes and gaps in the center support tie in. in addition to stress cracks in the lh side of the engine support. dealer told me no warranty coverage, no recall. cant afford repair and car is unsafe to drive. frame rusted out after only 11 years old!! what happened to "made in america" stood for quality and being a good thing.
Driving 70mph on interstate, car suddenly feels as though it is hydroplaning but road surface is dry, no control over steering. took to dealership who said rear suspension had collapsed the weight from this had shredded both new back tires down to steel belt $1200 repair bill...also undercarriage is starting to rust out, have seen complaints of this on internet..chrysler will do nothing. *tr
I have owned this 2006 chrysler pacifica fwd touring model since brand new. we live in michigan so of course there are winter issues associated with cars in general. however, this vehicle is in great condition garage kept all of its life unless driving, no surface rust, etc etc. basically a great car. i went to get the oil changed and the technician told me by the way there is a big rut hole in the sub frame and you might want to have that looked at. he also stated it looks strange because the rest of the car is in such great shape. i had new struts and tie rod installed about 2 years ago so i took it in there to have it looked at next. i was then told this is amazing, but we have seen this before on these chrysler pacificas! (red flag). they told me to check with the dealer because there is probably a recall on it. i then called the dealer to make an appointment to have it looked at. the service tech told me he knows what i am talking about and took my vin number over the phone. after a few minutes he told me there was an extended warranty for this case and unfortunately it did not cover my vin. then he suggested i call chrysler customer service to complain and see where it gets me. (nice). after speaking with chrysler and told them the story and how it basically renders my car unsafe to drive she explained to me that there was a warranty for a 6 week period in 2004 and i did not qualify. i have read numerous articles on the internet now about this problem and possible class action lawsuits. needless to say, i drive around with children in the car and this thing is a time bomb and chrysler needs to admit there is a problem and warn all current owners before someone gets injured or killed!
Tuesday, october 25, 2016 the engine cradle rusted through and the engine lowered and the cradle itself was dragging along the street. my wife was leaving our town of owosso, michigan to go to doctor appointments in lansing, michigan about 35 miles away. the pacifica had 119,101 miles on it and was otherwise in excellent condition. we had purchased the car from a chrysler dealership about 15 miles away about seven years prior with 42,000 miles on it. it had always been serviced at the dealership until the dealership was sold in february 2016. without repair the value of the vehicle was just scrap metal, repair was an absolute to salvage any value, the repair cost $3214.07. *tr
Vehicle was brought in for alignment and i was informed the engine cradle is rotted out and will need to be replaced. i did some homework and learned this is a common problem with all pacifica's. chrysler has only repair roughly 7,000 vehicles made is 2004 during a one month period. this is a model/year wide problem. there is a class action lawsuit currently pending.
My 2006 chrysler pacifica cradle is rusting out and the dealership that changed my oil said it is very dangerous to drive. i was also told by them that the 2004 and 2005 chrysler pacifica had recalls on this same issue but not the 2006. when i called chrysler up to report this issue they told me that my vin # is not on the recall and can not do anything about it. but as i read on here chrysler should know about this issue. i have my grandson in my car a lot of the time and i hope and pray nothing happens to either one of us while i am driving this car. i can not afford to get this fixed because it is very expensive to repair. *tr
My engine cradle is rusted through creating a safety hazard it has always been garaged.
Engine craddle rust & crack
On june 21, 2016 took vehicle to chrysler dealer for emission repairs. informed vehicle unsafe to drive due to rusted sub-frame and cradle which holds the engine. went back and viewed vehicle. entire cradle, i.e. sub-frame corroded. never received recall. owned vehicle since 2007. estimate of repairs of $5,000.00.
The engine/suspension crossmember is severely rusted through. this type of corrosion is not evident elsewhere on the vehicle frame, only on this crossmember. this problem has gained national attention for at least two years yet chrysler has chosen not to take responsibility for a manufacturing defect; namely inadequate anti-corrosion coating thickness. i spoke to a chrysler representative today and they offered no assistance with the $3,050 repair/replacement cost of this failed component. i have all of my vehicle service done at a chrysler dealership. i've had them inspect for this defect in the past but there were previously no reported issues. while the vehicle was in for routine oil change yesterday, the mechanic warmed me of the now obviously unsafe situation. in fact, i normally purchase a maintenance agreement through the dealership that lasts two years. they declined to sell me the contract siting that the engine could possibly fall out of the vehicle within that time. i'm very disappointed that chrysler couldn't even offer to discount this sizable repair bill. i've found numerous news stories online about this exact same safety issue occurring around the us yet nothing seems to be done about it. why?
While checking tires, noticed holes rusted through in the frame. took the car to the garage and mechanic put it on hoist and saw the whole frame is rusted in the engine carriage and sides. whole underside is ready to fall through. can't be welded, just replaced.
Driving with kids front of vehicle kept feeling as if the whole front end was about yo fall off. mechanic sd probably tie rod ends and motor mount. took to mechanic when they lifted the car my whole engine cradle was severly rusted, seperated and was told lucky engine didnt fall through while driving. i can not safely drive car and to repair is thousands of dollars! bought at a dealership aug 2012 they will not help with repairs either. i still owe on my car and it could be life threatning to drive this car. very upset but thankful me and the kids did not get hurt. the mechanics were in shock when they saw the rusted out engine cradle!
I have a 2006 chrysler pacifica, have had it 2 years now. when i took it to the garage to get an oil change my mechanic called me over to the service bay to show me that he had found that the engine sub-frame was almost rusted through. the mechanic went on to tell me that when it finally rusts through that the engine will drop down on to the road and cause me to loss all steering control and that the engine may slide up under the car thus resulting in an accident, i have to drive a major freeway everyday to get to work and if that happens to me there is a good chance that i or someone else could get seriously hurt/and killed. when i contacted my local chrysler dealer he all but laughed when i asked what chrysler was going to do about this safety hazard, he told me that chrysler is not going to recall these cars for this problem and that i was on my own in getting it fixed, now i am stuck with a car that has no value and is dangerous to drive. what can i do?
My 2006 pacifica has a rusted /rotted engine sub frame / cradle. the body and paint are near perfect. how can a part the holds the engine/trans/suspension deteriorate so badly new sub frame is a list price of $3500.00.the cost of repair is more than the car is worth. it is otherwise a perfect car. no help from chrysler. my only option is to try and find a used sub frame from florida or arizona.
Engine cradle rusted and is unsafe to drive i called chrysler they said too bad for me i have to pay for all repairs.
Front sub frame rust through. was told frame could crack or break causing loss of control of car. needs $3,100.00 repair at chrysler dealer to make safe..
When taking my 2006 chrysler pacifica to be serviced for broken motor mount. my vehicle was brought in the shop, not even 30 minutes passed and i was contacted immediately by the mechanic, that in the process of replacing my motor mount he noticed that my cradle was rotted out and very unsafe to drive because this was a very important component on my vehicle, (steering, engine, transmission and ect.) are being held up by the cradle, and the mechanic stated that the engine can fall out at anytime! i am in fear for my family and i, to know that we travel at high speeds on the free way. we live in a city where there are many pot holes and craters in the streets we drive on, and to know that we can be in danger is insane. he quoted me around $3,000 to repair and i cannot afford to cover this issue. there has to be something done by the chrysler corp. hopefully this speaks for many owners of this same vehicle.
Update on earlier report. had an independent sevice station check condition of rusting engine cradle on 7/21/15. mechanic reported that the rot damage is a safety issue, car should not be driven. rear engine cradle cross member rusting out over the years driven, unknown to me. also brought car to chrysler sevice station for their mechanic's inspection on 7/ 27/15. reported that the cradle was very rusty. large rusted out holes in the stucture are very easy to see. i was told the car was o.k. to drive today and that the engine could fall through at any time later. not a safety issue ? was also told i could keep comming back repetedly at 52$ a pop to have them check on the progression of the rot. quoted $2800 for repair, car not worth the cost, nor can i afford the cost. i was rushed out of the sevice area after being handed the bill. no talk about how the cradle was manufactured poorly, only that i could spray some type of rust inhibitor on the effected areas. chrysler has had my three young children and wife sitting in a car that could have caused them serious injury or death. i have since found out that chrysler knows about the faulty product and continued to produce more. i depended on this car everyday , i was happy with it untill now. i was happy with chrysler intill now, they need to step-up and fix what they know was not safe to start with. my car now sits in the driveway untill i can take further action.
Engine cradle rusted through lower section on each end. noticed at onset of oil change.
My sub-frame is rusting out on my car. i see that there is a class action lawsuit regarding this hazardous condition. by doing research, i understand that the engine cradle can fall out. i have a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring.
Discovered excessive rust on the subframe and underbody members after trying to diagnose a problem with the steering. specifically, a "clicking" noise had appeared unexpectedly during turning and the steering wheel had undue resistance while turning. after checking for tire problems and other issues, a mechanic diagnosed the problem as a subframe failure due to excessive rust. he mentioned that if the rust progressed too far, the engine could literally fall out of the vehicle while i was driving. this issue demands a recall. updated 09/15/15*lj updated 12/12/2017*cn
Frame at motor mounts has significant rust. rest of car is very good shape with no rust. the drivers side has more damage than passenger but both side have a good real of rust in the engine cradle area
Purchased car used with less than 85k miles. when i went to get it state inspected 1 week after purchase i was informed that the car is unsafe to drive due to engine cradle was rusted out. repair estimates range from $3300 to over $4000. the car is less than 10 years old and under 100k miles. no help from the manufacturer. many others with the same situation. this could be a potential life threatening situation for myself and my family. car is worth as much as the repairs. the manufacturer should be made to make this right. bad product. even partial help with the repairs would help. very disappointed in "american made".
I recently bought a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring with under 87,000 miles. when i went to have the state inspection performed i was informed by the dealership that this car will not pass inspection due to the excessive amount of rust on the engine cradle. we were informed that the vehicle is not safe to drive and needs over $3,600 of repair work done. i am a single mother and can not afford that kind of repair cost. i find it crazy that a car under 10 years old should have this kind of rust damage. the visible outside of the car is in perfect shape, but the underside is totally corroded! when i started looking online to see if anyone else has encountered this issue, i was amazed at the number of other people who have encountered this same issue. this car is not safe to drive with my daughter, as one good pot hole could cause the engine to fall out and kill both of us or anyone else on the road around us. i will paying for years on a car i cant even drive nor in good conscience sell to someone else. i find it extremely disappointing that chrysler refuses to step up and do right by its customers. it will only be a matter of time until someone is killed by this car. *tr
With only 50512 miles i was notified by my service agent that the car front sub frame is rusted through and risking collision or engine falling out causing personal injury or death. this problem has been reported several times and is well documented over the internet.i contacted chrysler and got "sorry we cant help you" for a response. *tr
I took my 2006 chrysler pacifica in to a chrysler dealership because i couldn't pass the il emissions test. i was told that my subframe was very rusted and holes were in it. he told me that they fixed my car so i can pass emissions ($900) and basically told me to drive it for a few months and get rid of it. i asked him how much it would be to fix it and he told me, it would be very expensive. i did my research and there are a lot of people with the same problem. there is a recall for 04-05 pacificas and after looking at pictures of other subframes for 04-05 models, they look just like mine (rusted w/holes). 06 pacificas should also be in the recall. i did not call chrysler because i felt i would get the same response as others. so now i have to pray every time i drive the vehicle that the subframe doesn't break. i still owe on the vehicle and can't afford another. please do something! *tr
Today i was told that the engine cradle of my 2006 chrysler pacifica with 125214 miles was rusted out and needs to be replaced, will not pass nys inspection. online i read that chrysler is only are covering the 2004 and 2005 models. this is a extreme safety problem just like the defects in the 2004 and 2005 that chrysler needs to cover. *tr
I took my vehicle to ganley dodge, bedford, ohio and it was pointed out to me that i needed a subframe because mine was rusting out very badly and it needs replacing. i have always taken my vehicle to this dealership and apparently they have failed on their inspection to find this item to be defective. they tell me that it rusted due to the fact that water enters the frame and it has no where to go except to make rust holes for the water to drain out. *tr
Saturday i changed the oil and filter on my 2006 pacifica. i almost had a heart attack when i saw that the cradle part of the frame, the cradle that holds the power train, was rusted. this was not surface rust but serious "metal missing" rust. the car is only 9 years old, has just over 72000 miles, has been in a garage every night and has had all periodic oil, filters, coolant, etc. done on a prescribed basis. i have kept this vehicle in "mint" condition since one of my kids wants the car. i called walser chrysler, a local dealership i have bought all my mini vans, 300s and my pacifica from. they gave me an 800 number. i called the 800 number which was a chrysler office number. they pretended they had never heard of the problem and there was no recall or warranty offered by chrysler. the frame of this vehicle and all the pacifica from 2004 to 2007 were mercedes benz frames. one would certainly assume that a mb frame, even though it was in a chrysler product, should not rust through in nine years. it is almost inconceivable! if you google this cradle/frame problem on the internet you will be flooded with examples of what i found on my pacifica. yet chrysler's warranty department has "never heard of the problem". some writers claim chrysler has approved repairs on their vehicles. in fact there is a page long form, not on chrysler's letterhead, that states chrysler has admitted to the defective faults, will repair or reimburse as necessary and covers all pacificas from 2004 to 2007. one of the writers said the quote for fixing his cradle/frame was just under $4,000. i think where there is this defect on so very many vehicles it is time for chrysler to step up. add that if the cradle finally breaks the entire power train will fall out. the power train sits over the front axles so that would cause a horrid problem! enough is enough! any death will be on chrysler!!! *tr
Today i was told that the engine cradle of my 2006 chrysler pacifica was rusted out and needs to be replaced. online chrysler says they only are covering the 2004 and 2005 years. i believe this is a extreme safety problem that chrysler is overlooking. *tr
The sub frame and engine cradle are completely rusted away! the vehicle was purchased new, garage kept and dealer serviced. the engine sub frame and cradle is rusted and gone from the vehicle. this is so unsafe! car sub frames never rust away. chrysler is placing peoples lives in jeopardy! profit over lives. please take some action on this serious life threatening issue. *tr
I have a 2006 chrysler pacifica touring edition with less than 115,000 miles on it. the car runs flawlessly except for the sub frame rust corrosion that has eaten away the engine and car support underneath my car. i have read continuously that this is a common problem with this type of vehicle. my car is unsafe to drive and i fear i will get into an accident while driving it. i will be taking this car to chrysler in paramus, nj to find out what can be done on my behalf. are there any recalls out there, or manufacturer warranties covering such major repairs. i am not in a position to purchase to new car right now. please help.
I am the owner of the car and was told by my mechanic that the entire engine cradle is rusted / rotted thru and that the car is now unsafe to drive. chrysler has issued an extended warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles (whichever is 1st) for 2004-2005 but not for 2006, apparently i have the exact same rot & rust issue (so it was never resolved at chrysler) but a less accommodating warranty to fix and address it. *tr
My grandmother brought her 06 pacifica in for an oil change at the dealership where she purchased the vehicle new in march of 2006 and has had all work done since. she was informed that she needed to have the sub frame (engine cradle) replaced immediately and the vehicle was unsafe to drive and that she should no longer operate the vehicle. her car has just over 94,000 miles she needs to have over 5,000.00 of work performed on her car. from a quick search on the issue this is a very common issue with these vehicles and has caused several accidents with the failure of the sub frame causing the wheels to fall off the car. *tr
My "subframe" broke off of the rear of my vehicle on both sides. when i backed out of a driveway, it sounded like i hit something, there was a clunk in the rear of the vehicle. later that day, someone told me my rear wheels looked like they were tilting in. not long after that, my daughter happened to be driving behind me and called and said there was a big metal thing hanging down under my car and my rear wheels were tilting in. i went to a local mechanic and it appears that it rusted and broke. the garage is currently looking for parts/repair information. *tr
We have always had the car serviced at the chrysler dealer and on this oil change were just informed about the extensive rust on the engine cradle. did some research on the internet and found out that this is a common problem with chrysler pacifica and that chrysler has extended the warranty on only a few 2004 and 2005 models. i called chrysler and they refused to help with any repairs saying that my vehicle was outside the extended warranty models. there is a large rust hole in the engine cradle on one side and extensive rust on the other side. *tr
Front sub frame rotted out by lower control arms called chrysler hq they will not cover unless it becomes a recall. *tr
Took vehicle in for lube oil filter and service tech had me come in and look and the rusted frame.quoted $1800 for a used frame to replace. i seen other complaints on line with the same problem and i am hoping to get some help with repair cost. *tr
