Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Subframe has rusted out near the engine. unsafe to drive

Extensive undercarriage rust was found during a routine oil change. this rust effects the motor bolts as well as motor support carriage. the mechanic has advised that the car is not safe to drive. the car has 81,268 miles and has been well maintained. upon investigation, i discovered this problem has been consistently reported by owners of this vehicle. the car has been used to transport children on the highway and after examining the rust damage chrysler should have notified owners of this serious safety risk and should be responsible for the repair.

Went to have vibration in the front checked and the mechanic discovered the big hole from the rot on the engine cradle went to a local body shop to get repaired . a new cradle is 3600 $ a used one is 600 we opted to order a used one and hopefully my wife and children and grandchildren will be safe . no thanks to chryslers negligence in ignoring the issues . they seem to forget who made them a company the consumer.

I took my car in for an oil change and was told my engine cradle is rusted and repairs could cost between 4000 - 5000. i called chrysler and was told me vehicle was not included in the extended warranty coverage. i have seen multiple complaints about this issue yet they refuse to acknowledge there is a problem. this is a serious condition and could result in the engine falling out. very dangerous and would like to get help addressing this problem.

I am the original owner of 2005 chrysler pacific. i sent my car to a local garage today and was told the front sub frame was completed rusted and not safe to drive. i called chrysler and was told my card is out of the cut off window for x26 recall. however it is the same problem as stated in the recall letter, and chrysler is not willing to compensate any thing. 82,000 mile on my car.

Engine cradle is rotted out

Engine cradle rusted out

During an oil change, massive rust was found in the engine craddle, sub frame. failure of these parts would be catastrop. chrysler has acknowledged this problem with a small subset of these cars but clearly applies to all as similar symptoms are showing in cars outside the group sleected for relief. this is wrong, this is not safe, this is not fair.

Vehicle subframe (engine cradle) is rotted out and vehicle is unsafe to drive. chrysler issued a recall for this but only for a 6 week period for 2004 models. looking online i see hundreds of complaints of the 2005 pacifica. i have photos. subframe is about to fall apart and this will cause the engine to drop. this is a major defect. chrysler needs to address this issue. how many owners look under their car at the subframe? it;s a hidden defect that will kill someone one day. subframes are not supposed to rot away at the 10 year point. this is a major major defect. please let me send you photos.

I took my 05 pacifica in for inspection. i was told will not pass because my subframe is rusted with holes and very dangerous to drive. chrysler did acknowledge this defect and extended the warranty to 10 yrs 150000 miles. then layer revised it to manufacture date of 6 weeks. i fell short 7 days of this so i am not covered. evidently the same faulty material was used. i am beyond upset how chrysler is aloud to manufacture a vehicle that is dangerous, and could have killed me or my family. why do i have to wait for enough complaints in order for chrysler to step up and handel. not only is my subframe rotted, my motor mounts also are for the second time in in a few years. no one needs their subframe nor motor mounts changed more then once in a vehicle 10 yrs old unless it's a defect in material. i am now without a car, or the thousands of dollars to fix. i also was told these parts are national backorder...hmmm i wonder why. why does it take someone to get the story on the news for chrysler to step up. this is outrageous, all these complaints of the same issue. please look into this. most chrysler owners don't know to put in a complaint here. think of the hundreds that never did. how many is considered enough please, i need my vehicle. thank you

I was told by my mechanic yesterday that the engine cradle frame on my car is cracked and that chrysler knows about this issue but is not doing anything about it. all or a lot of the chrysler pacifica's 2005 are having this happen. i looked this issue up on the internet and am amazed at how many other complaints are out there about this issue and chrysler is still not doing anything about it? i could have been driving down the highway a week ago with my daughter and my engine could have fallen out! chrysler knows this is happening with the pacifica's and is not saying anything to the owners or trying to help them fix the problem? being a single parent raising a child on my own does not leave me many options, but to drive the pacifica with my child in it knowing the engine could fall out at any time until i can save enough money to get the frame replaced or buy a different vehicle. *tr

In ''14, it was noticed that the subframe was rusted. i did not inspect it any further because i trusted that it was a normal amount of rust. however, on 4/27/15, the car began to have issues. upon acceleration from a stop or slow-roll, there is a vibration that can be felt throughout the floorboards & the gas pedal. when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear & the rpm's drop, the car makes a "thud" or "clunk" sound from the engine area of the car. this "thud" can be felt in the cabin of the car. the vibrations & the noise has grown worse over the course of 3 days. i had the car inspected during an oil change at a chrysler dealership on 4/30/15, & i was advised that, due to the amount of rust to the subframe & engine cradle, the car's structural integrity has been breached. the mechanic took a picture & had the service manager bring it to me in the waiting room & advise me that if i hit a large enough bump, the subframe may break apart & the engine may drop out of the car. i contacted chrysler & they offer no remedy. upon research of the issue, i have found that this is a common problem among ''04 & ''05 chrysler pacificas & that the manufacturer had issued a recall on the car for this problem in ''10, but rescinded the recall & created a tsb it, yet upheld the recall for pacificas that were manufactured between 2/23/04 & 3/31/04. due to the initial recall, tsb, & the partial recall from the chrysler pacificas manufactured in '04, chrysler has admitted fault in not properly coating the subframe materials to prevent rust from occurring. chrysler is not willing to take corrective action for their dangerous & faulty craftsmanship of their cars. this is negligence & a dangerous practice-for the lives of the drivers, passengers, & others on the roads, as well as within the realms of business ethics. this widespread situation needs to be addressed & remedied immediately. *tr

I took my car to a shop for repairs, and the mechanic was alarmed to find that the frame is so rusted under the engine that he deemed it unsafe to drive. my car has 185,000 miles on it, and is in otherwise good condition. it is not safe to drive as the engine could fall to the ground, potentially causing an accident. i was advised to get rid of the vehicle, but obviously i cannot sell it. i was never notified of this potential problem, although i have become aware that chrysler knew the problem existed. *tr

2005 chrysler pacifica engine cradle is rusted out and the engine could fall out of the car. i find the car to be unsafe to drive. that is the only thing is rusted out on the car, this needs to be fix by chrysler. *tr

The engine sub frame has and is rusted out. *tr

Vehicle engine cradle sub-frame is rotting through and nearly separating one portion from another. this will at some point in time fail in a catastrophic manner. this defect seems to be well documented on numerous web sites and fiat chrysler group is aware of this problem and makes like the problem is with only a very limited number of vehicles which is clearly not the case. they have an extended warranty of note for this very problem, but is limiting it to a very few cars manufactured between a very limited timeframe from late 2004 to early 2005, all others are excluded in spite of the fact that numerous pacifica's are noted as having this problem.this repair is an approx. $3000 repair that chrysler is ignoring the safety of the owners and families of these cars and those driving around them. *tr

The front sub frame on my 2005 chrysler pacifica has a rust hole in the cross member. i took the car in for a oil change and was told it wouldn't pass inspection, which is due in june of 2015. *tr

Engine cradle (subframe) was rusted thru. chrysler had an extended warranty for this item on my vehicle. it was replaced for $100.00 co-pay. also afected was the lower front motor mount, it was also replaced at adjusted cost. owners of pacific's should be aware of this problem. it also is the rear engine support, and lower suspension components are conected to it. *tr

We had our car inspected this week and were told we had a rotted body frame. we were sent to a dodge dealer and they told us we had a rotted subframe. the cost of repair will be $1885.40 for the part and $600 for labor. it will not be ready to drive till april 6 as the dealer requires the parts money up front before they will even order the part so we have to save the money for this. so we have no car for the next 10 days at least. we have researched and understand that chrysler knows of this problem and did a limited amount of repairs as it was their fault but apparently they are not helping the majority of car owners who have this problem. this does not seem fair to the other owners. we can barely afford to come up with this money to fix something that is this company's fault. i cannot believe they are not being forced to fix all these cars when it is a danger issue. how can we drive a car with a rotted frame? we had to have the rocker panels replaced a few years ago when they rotted out too. now this is added to our cost. we cannot afford to buy another car and barely able to fix this car at our retirement age. why aren't companies held to a standard to protect consumers? we understand there are class action suits that have recently been filed for this problem within the last couple of months but we have no idea how to be involved in theses cases if it is even possible to do that. we wish there was a solution for us and for others with similar problems with this car. *tr

I took my car into to have a motor mount replaced when my mechanic called me and told my that the frame or engine cradle was rusted out. he took some pictures and there are holes in the cradle. he advised me not to put anymore money into this car. i researched this online and found many complaints about this problem. i called chrysler and they said they could not help me. i'm ready to file a complaint with state attorneys office as i think this is criminal that chrysler will not recall this car and fix this common problem! *tr

Subframe cracked rust bolt motor mount missing unsafe to drive. *tr

Purchased a 2005 chrysler pacifica from private party. was not told about frame being rusted right through. went to drive the car and could not drive. was so scared and i was not safe. brought to mechanic and was told engine cradle was rotted and the car was not drive-able and is not safe. i called chrysler and they refused to pay for the part to be fixed. i live in a high salt band state in ny and it should be covered as the letter that was sent out in 2011 stated it should have been covered. now i have no vehicle and it would cost over $4500 to be fixed. chrysler should have to recall these cars and fix the problem. we can die from this huge problem. the engine will just fall out of the car. i am really hoping that nhtsa will do something about this. *tr

I have a 2005 chrysler pacifica touring and i took it to the dealer to find out the engine cradle is rotted. i did some investigating and this is a know safety issue with the 2004 and 2005 chrysler pacifica's. chrysler refuses to help in this issue. they really aren't standing behind the product. *tr

We bought our 2005 chrysler pacifica from a private seller ... two days later we brougth it into the shop to get a mysterious clunk checked out and found the engine cradle was almost rotted away. after owning the vehicle for not even 48 hours it is now unsafe to drive, i called into chrysler customer service because i saw a recall that at one point covered this model and i was told, " i aplogize but there is nothing we can do". my question is ... if at one point this vehicle was not safe to opperate because of the engine cradle rust problem, what changed to exclude this model? i have plenty of pictures that show i should not be driving this vehicle with my children in it. *tr

Severe subframe rot, engine could possibly fall out.

During a routine oil change the technician pointed out to me an abnormal amount of rust and rot on the frame of the vehicle. i proceeded to bring the vehicle to my mechanic who told me the engine support cradle was perforated and rotted. chrysler used substandard metal and engineering allowing road debris and water in but not out.(no drain holes) i was informed that although the engine may not fall through at this time, that it could shift downward and stall. this is a clear safety hazard for vehicles of this model/year and should be remedied by chrysler. *tr

On routine inspection, discovered subframe / carriage nearly rusted through. told it was unsafe to drive. while a small group of owners received notice of this design defect in 2010, we were never notified and a call to chrysler confirmed that despite selective recall, this car not eligible for compensation or remediation. *tr

This is a structural issue noted by mechanic during routine oil change and tire rotation. mechanic identified extensive rust and corrosion of engine cradle. damage includes muliple cracks and a hole wide enough to insert 3 fingers. mechanic recommends replacing engine cradle. vehicle purchased 10 years ago on this date. mileage less than 80,000. vehicle taken to local dealership for evaluation. dealer escalated to manufacturer. awaiting determination from chrysler as to whether it will cover the repair. extended warranty for pacificas manufactured between feb 23, 2004 and march 31, 2004 not applicable. this vehicle was manufactured in april 2004. *tr

Went in for annual inspection on 2005 pacifica. mechanic reported rusted sub frame; everything else is fine; mileage is about 130000. service center informed me this is a known issue by chrysler. excellent article on it too: http://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/minivan-owners-want-chrysler-to-concede-rust-problems-241535881.html. i called chrysler and they said my vehicle falls outside the narrow window they recalled so i am not eligible for any warranty. they could not give me any reason why the recall window was limited to a 6 week period. i have seen hundreds of similar complaints on this site and others. unbelievable that this problem is not being addressed by chrysler. i will have to buy a new car and surely won't be buying a chrysler given my experience with this issue. *tr

Took our 2005 chrysler pacifica in for oil change and they informed us that the engine cradle is rotting out and that our engine could fall out and that would result in a bad accident. we called chrysler and they would do nothing!!! we found out that many other people who own this same car had the same problem on the internet because the chrysler manufacturer of this car did not coat the frame correctly when it was built. this was chryslers mistake when this car was made and it is no fault of the owners that purchased these cars to have this terrible costly and dangerous problem. this should be under a recall but it is "not" and now it will cost us $3000.00 to have it repaired to make our car safe. we are the original owners of this car and it has always been keep in a garage. there is only 4800 miles on this car and this should never have happened. we are retired on a fixed income and this put us at a hardship. we feel we have to have this repaired to protect us , our family and other people on the road. we feel this should certainly be addressed and that the chrysler manufacturer should recall and stand behind all 2005 pacifica cars. many people who own this car might never know this is happening and it is dangerous to have these cars on the road as this could cause a serious /fatal accident to many people! help! *tr

I was having my oil changed yesterday and the technician pointed out a badly rotted and cracked subframe on the passenger side. the subframe is only rotted and cracked on one side and in one spot which leads me to believe this is due to a manufacturer defect. i have contacted chrysler and was told there is no recall and then my call was disconnected. *tr

I recently purchased this 2005 chrysler pacifica from a car dealer. i got it for a good price and was told it needed a little work. my wife wanted a chrysler pacifica from the first time she saw one. so, finally finding one within our means was awesome; so we thought. it was making a winding noise at time of purchase, which was thought to be a power steering pump. we took the vehicle to the shop after purchasing it and had the pump and some other brake work; as-well-as, tie-rod ends fixed/replaced. this did not stop the winding noise we thought was coming from the power steering pump, so we had the shop take another look at it. the shop discovered that the rack-and-pinion was leaking and likely the cause for the noise. however, when they attempted to remove the rack and pinion from the vehicle; they realized it would not be possible because the cradle/sub-frame was so rusted that removal was not possible. so needless to say; the shop owner recommended that we determine if there was a re-call. the shop owner said that he had never seen this amount of rust on the sub-frame of any vehicle, especially on a 2005 model. i hoped that the shop owner was over exaggerating so i took the vehicle to another local shop and he to, was stunned by the amount of rust. this shop owner told me to not drive the vehicle and to contact the chrysler corp. and demand that something be done about this. he (the shop owner) was absolutely beside himself after seeing the vehicle. i love chrysler products and even own a caravan, which my wife drives daily. however, i now have a different view of chrysler. they have not accepted responsibility for using unsafe materials for making the 2005 chrysler pacifica and i wonder if anyone has died from the results of this issue. if chrysler does not accept responsibility for this; i will never purchase another chrysler product, ever again... *tr

Have been hearing and feeling knocking noise in front suspension. found rusted out engine cradle with stress cracks right at the connection to control arm on passenger side. car is to dangerous to drive. this is a defective design by chrysler which they should cover. *tr

While having a flat tire fixed on a lift noticed my whole engine cradle is rusted out from driverside to pasenger side of the underbody.chrysler had a10 year one hundred thousand mile warranty.my auto did not make their cut off period. i have the same rust the rest of the pacificas had or have. went to small claims court i won after the third round was defeated. can you send me anything to help me in the forth round.

I took my vehicle in for routine nys inspection and was told it wouldn't pass due to the bad subframe. the mechanic showed me the problem and i couldn't believe that the vehicle that i bought thinking it was a safe dependable vehicle was rotting out from underneath me! i've always performed required routine maintenance on it as i am a single working mother and need a safe reliable vehicle. i'm caught between a rock and a hard place because i can't afford to pay the $3,000 to fix it, to buy a new vehicle or to be without a car! i still owe on it and i can't drive it! is there anything you can do to make chrysler make this right? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel vibrated and was loose. the vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the front sub frame was rusted. as a result, the struts and the sway bar links were replaced but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

Engine cradle rusting out on passenger side. no help from dealer or chrysler customer care. they have known about this problem for some time. so many of these vehicles are still on the road and people do not realize they are driving a death trap. cant imagine what would happen at 70 mph and the engine falls out. *tr

Engine cradle/frame assembly is severley rusted. this was detected by conrad's located in green, ohio 10/23/14 when servicing the vehicle. it is verified by duanne's automotive center, north canton, ohio 10/25/14. chrysler never sent me a recall notification for the rust condition. it was a recall item. it is very dangerous. it is costing me in excess of $1200.00 (parts and labor to install used cradle assembly - new is not available for purchase) to replace. *tr

Upon taking car in for routine nys inspection was informed of severe engine cradle rot. estimated repair $4000. car has less than 114k miles and is only 9 years old. i cant afford to repair and even though i have opened a case with chrysler they are not willing to help me. chrysler admits issue when they offered extension of warranty on 2004 and 2005 models but refuses to issue a recall or fix the problem at their cost. owners are stuck with a costly repair option . chrysler should be addressing this safety issue . *tr

Had my car in to be serviced and they told me my engine cradle was rusted out and that it was dangerous to drive and that there was a recall on the 2004/2005 model year. so i brought it t the dealer and they said my car wasn't covered even though the letter i was given a copy of didn't specify anything but the 2004/2005 model year. so i called chrysler customer service and they said that my vehicle wasn't in the dates listed to be fixed yet i have the problem they all are complaining about. so i was able to get a manager to look at the issue and they never called back. so i called them back last week because we are at the deadline of the of the recall and the are refusing the claim. this is a dangerous issue and have a car that's ready to break any day. please help me get my car fixed and keep my family safe.

Was told by my mechanic that the car would not pass inspection as the front sub-frame that holds up the engine has major corrosion and is a safety concern. checking the internet confirms that my cars condition is not unique. chrysler does have a recall out for this model and this condition but it is only for vehicles in a six week manufacturing window and my vehicle does not qualify. it should. cost of repair i was told by the dealer is $4,100 plus. part alone is $3,870. this needs to be investigated by your organization please. this sounds like the toyota tundra pick-up frame issue. same problem. *tr

I have just performed routine (10/03/20014) maintenance on my 2005 chrysler pacifica. the mechanic called to inform me of significant corrosion problem with the cross member (cradle) that supports the engine, transmission, front suspension and steering. his visual inspection, as well as mine, showed more then 75% of the passenger side cradle rusted away. an open case # 25736224 has been established by chrysler customer support. my pacifica was produced september 30, 2004 which is outside of the assembly dates established by chrysler for extended warranty coverage. failure of the cross member (cradle) would cause loss of steering, engine and transmission failure, and severed brake lines. because this is a major safety issue it should be repaired by chrysler corporation. *tr

I have maintained this vehicle extremely well. no visible rust on body, vehicle appears to be in excellent condition. i took vehicle in for routine maintenance and the technician stated that the engine cradle and passenger side sub frame is nearly rusted in half. i was shocked because it is not my primary winter vehicle, and salt exposure is minimal. the technician explained that it is not safe to drive the vehicle because of the risk of drive train falling out when the engine cradle fails to support the engine and transmission. also, the car could break in half if the sub frame fails. how can a vehicle that has been well maintained, looks and drives like new, be unsafe because it isn't structurally sound. the vehicle is driven only about 10000 miles per year. an online search revealed that this is a known issue on this make/model. i cannot understand how this vehicle is not recalled. i have been driving this vehicle, thinking it would keep my family and i safe. this is very dangerous, and millions of people are undoubtedly driving chrysler pacificas that are not structurally safe. i hope that the nhtsa will investigate this. *tr

Chrysler 2005 pacifica has significant engine cradle and other undercarriage rust issues. today at my auto repair shop i took several photographs of the rusted engine cradle, undercarriage and other suspension areas with heavy rusting. called chrysler care 1-800-247-9753 and they kindly told me there was nothing they can do to assist in the repair cost. numerous reports online of repairs being selectively reimbursed by chrysler. how many complaints are required for a recall to be issued or is a class action developing for this issue. thanks. *tr

On 9/10/2014 my wife was in a minor fender bender and our 2005 chrysler pacifica had to be taken away on a flatbed tow truck. upon inspection of damage to our front end from the accident the body shop informed they found that our vehicle was unsafe to drive. in addition to the damage and upon my shock and horror they found our passenger side subframe/engine cradle was almost completely rusted out!!! the cost to repair/replace the subframe and labor will be $1500!!! i am in the process of having them replace it because my wife and 2 small children are in this suv daily. i'm thankful that this was found now before it was too late and something god awful would have happened. i'm in the process of talking with chrysler and am looking for assistance in this matter. thank you for your help. *tr

Rusted/rotted subframe/cradle. *tr

While replacing a set of tires at a local shop, the service manager informed me of a rusted engine support frame. he also stated the danger of the engine falling out of the vehicle. the vehicle has been well maintained at the local chrysler dealership with maintenance and inspection reports every 3000 miles. never once has this rusted frame been reported at the chrysler dealership! the last service report during an oil change stated, "checked over everything looked ok". the dealership has reported other maintenance and repair issues but never this one. is chrysler trying to hide this potential safety problem? i've been a long term owner of chrysler products and never had a problem with a rusted-out engine support. the car currently sits in our garage with my wife refusing to drive the vehicle because of the potential safety issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pacifica. while driving at an unknown speed on wet pavement, the rear of the vehicle skid and slid. the vehicle fish tailed, became very unstable, and was difficult to control. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear suspension failed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. updated 02/23/16*lj

Took my vehicle in to have a small radiator leak checked out and an oil change as i am planning a trip from sw michigan to chicago in a week. much to my surprise, shock and dismay the mechanic told me that my cars frame and engine suspension is badly rusted and the engine can fall out of my car at any given time. as i drive my car for my job and also help take my grandchildren to and from school i am sickened by this news. then to find out (i bought my car used) that chrysler did a recall but then rescinded the recall really made me angry. i am now stuck with a car i cannot/should not drive and there is no way i can afford to purchase another vehicle. i will never buy a chrysler product again. shame on you chrysler to not stand behind your product. *tr
