Problems with 2005 Chrysler Pacifica UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 134 204 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Engine cradle rotted through. firestone tells me it is unsafe to drive.

There is a default with the ignition switch when trying to start the car. there are five more chrysler pacificas that i know of with the same problem.

I have to completely replace the under carriage/frame of my chrysler pacifica due to it corroding & rusting out the passenger wheel framework. this is a safety hazard seeing as if a large pothole was hit or an immediate braking were needed the entire tire could snap off & cause a major accident. i am fearful to drive my car.

The vehicle is stuck in park. the transmission shifter interlock lever is broken (small pink plastic piece that attaches to a spring). the vehicle will not shift from park to reverse, neutral, drive, etc.

I purchased a 2005 chrysler pacifica from prime auto sales on 10/19/18 for $4573.13. on 8/24/19 i took the vehicle to midas to have brakes installed on the vehicle. midas did not even want to put the brakes on the car, because they say the car is unsafe to drive. they informed me that the engine cradle is completely rusted out and i should not drive the vehicle. they told me that it is illegal for a dealership to sell unsafe vehicles with this much frame damage. this is not something that happens overnight. they had to know this when they sold me the vehicle. also they misled me when i purchased the car by saying that it was an all-wheel drive vehicle when it was not. now, not only am i paying a car loan but because i have a loan i am required to carry full-coverage insurance on a vehicle that is not even safe for my family to ride in.

When you hit the brakes a noise comes out of the rear brakes (more on the rear passenger side) and i feel a small vibration on the brake pedal. when i let go of the pedal the noise stops.this happens when the car is moving and is worse if you pulling a trailer at 50 to 60 mph. it's been happening since i got the car 6/15/2019.

I have an 05 chrysler pacifica that in january of this year i was informed that i needed motor mounts, after taking it to a couple of mechanics to see what the issue was i was told to replace the motor mounts would be anywhere in the area of $800 to $1,200 , so my pacifica sat all winter. after checking around some of my friends told me they knew of a mechanic who would be able to do it provided i bought the parts online. i found the parts online for under $100 for four motor mounts i set up an appointment this summer with the mechanic to have them installed, he was able to install three of the four motor mounts he was not able to install the fourth one because of rust damage to the subframe or engine cradle.i called chrysler to see if they would be able to help me they told me i needed to get in touch with my dealer to see if they would be able to do anything.i went to my dealer explained my situation they never even looked at the car and told me that there was nothing they could do being that my car was not manufactured in canada and was not part of the recall, (have a nice day) and sent me on my way.my car has just under 115000 miles on it and still fairly good shape. i'm retired on ss can't afford a new or used car or trade it in because it's there's not much value on a 15-year old car with just under 115000 miles on it. i live in northern nj with salty winter roads which is why i don't understand why my car not being manufactured in canada has anything to do with it.

Recently bought a 2005 chrysler pacifica. after doing some research online i discovered that there has been thousands of complaints about the engine cradle rusting out due to chrysler improperly coating the framework. i naturally went out to look at mine to make sure it did not have the same problem. i was very disappointed. i bought this vehicle for a family vehicle and now do not feel safe driving it with my 4 children and cannot afford the repairs as my savings was used to purchase said vehicle. one would think after thousands of such dangerous claims that the nhtsa would do something about this

Takata recall my entire undercarriage has completely rusted out the muffler fell off and the bolts that hold the frame to the bottom of the car rusted out and are hanging there unconnected.the mechanic put his fingers right through the motor mount and explained that my car ..after i have made my last payment is undrivable. we do not ive in a state that has salt on the roads and my car is housed in a garage at all times.the repairs are over 4800. i cannot sell it as it is unsafe to drive. the mechanic explained if the car was driving fast enough and a bump was hit the motor would come up into the driver and front seat killing anyone in it not to mention other vehicles on the road. i love my car and am very sad that this problem isnt on the recall list as other pacifia owners have had the same issues once it hits 100k mies.

I took my car into the mechanic to have the water pump replaced which he did. but he also told me that it was not safe to drive because the cradle holding the engine in was all rusted out. and that the engine could just fall out at any moment. and that the car would stop i would lose steering. he did show me he pictures on his phone. and told me he would look for a cradle for my car. so i went home to check this problem out on the internet and found that other pacifica's were having this problem also. so i think chrysler needs to compensate us and get this problem fixed before somebody is killed. luckily my mechanic let me know this so that i would not be driving on a highway. after realizing i could make a complaint i ask my mechanic if he still had the pictures on his phone. no he did not he had dropped his phone in the water while fishing. but if you look on the internet you will see other people who have had this problem also with their pacifica's. and there are youtube video showing how this must be repaired and how to put a new cradle on to the pacific. it's not an easy or fun job and it is an expensive job if you can find a cradle.

After doing a major repair of $800 on my car for a new water pump and timing chain. i was told that my cradle holding the engine in place could drop any minute because of the rust. my mechanic informed me that he would not recommend driving this vehiclebecause at anytime the egine and steringcolom could fall out any monent.the cradle hold these items in were rusted out so bad.. i looked online and noticed there was many people complaining of this. let's get something done before someone dies. thank you my mechanic toke pictures of all this rust. but i was unable to get them. but i'm sure i'm not the first to complain. please reconsider this recall. thank you.

I was traveling down the road and was turning slightly at a curve at the road, i was traveling at approximately 25-30 mph and the car just shut off completely. it did start back up and has driven ok but was told it was a previous recall issue but i haven't been able to find it so i'm taking the next step.

Engine cradle and motor mounts rotted. possibility of engine falling out if not fixed, i have been quoted $950 to fix by callahan's brake and muffler shop in pontiac, mi. vehicle was under inspection. i have already incurred cost from the same problem and yet again here i am looking at the same issue.

My mechanic discovered that the frame is very badly rusted making the car unsafe to drive. when he tried to find a replacement part, quickly found out that this problem is widespread on this type of car from the same year. we cannot drive this car without a $2500 repair and the car is only worth about $4000. so it is basically junk because of the rusted frame.

My 2005 chrysler pacifica started making noise in front passenger side in the suspension and wheel area while on the interstate. a short time later the front passenger wheel started shaking and wobbling uncontrollably at speeds of 65mph. their was no warning! thank god i was entering town and was close to home. i got the car home and had friend who is a mechanic investigate the problem. what he found was scary!!!!! the whole sub frame and engine cradle was almost completely gone due to severe rusting in the exact area where the suspension components attach to the frame. super bad day when i showed the pictures to 3 different local automotive shops with well over 100 yrs of experience combined and all informed me that the estimated cost to repair was 4000.00 up to 5500.00. completely absurd! car is worthless and only has 100,000 miles on it. you should make chrysler own up to every pacifica that has this problem, not just a few that was manufactured in a few months. their is overwhelming evidence that they didn't coat the frame properly. i will be sharing my pictures and when you see them ask yourself if you would want your family driving these cars and having to spend a very large amount of money to fix them properly. chrysler is doing nothing because the nhtsa isn't making them. please take my small portion of this ridiculous nightmare and consider at the least making chrysler be partially responsible for their lack of consideration for the human life and the well being of its customers. this is a dangerous hazard that should be immediately addressed. thank you!

Sub frame rotted out, i am confused that you said that this item is a a consumer satisfaction issue. it is a crumple zone in case you have a frontal impact. so based on it,s function it should be a safety issue ????. the strongest part of the car is the first part to rot away, that is totally unacceptable. i need feedback on this ??????

Cross member under engine rusted all the way through

I just noticed the rotting engine cradle on my car and found out it is a well known issue by fca and many other consumers suffering the same condition. i have not had repaired yet

Was told that on my type of vehicle there was a recall on the k frame/cross member. from them rotting out. car passed emissions inspection bit because of the frame would not pass. mechanic told me there was a recall. dealership said otherwise.

This is a real problem the sub-frame that holds the engine to the car is rusted through the engine cradle is rusted thru and will become a hazard to drive without repairs the cars are dangerous to drive because the engines can fall out.

Took my 2005 chrysler pacifica into the mechanic for front end noise. the mechanic discovered that my sub frame is rusted out. the mechanic is concerned that my engine could fall out.

Extensive under carriage rusting

Due to failure of the corrosion protection on the engine cradle rust has created holes in the cradle that supports the engine. over certain rough roads there is a knocking sound.

Our vehicle has 88,000 miles and it just failed a safety inspection because the engine cradle is rotting/rusted and the engine is in jeopardy of falling out of the car. the dealer (good brothers dodge) acknowledges the safety concern and that chrysler has had problems with these. they supplied a $3,200 estimate to repair. according to the dealer, the engine could fall out while driving down the road and the vehicle shouldn't be driven. there appears to be a pending class-action lawsuit regarding this very issue and chrysler unwillingness to acknowledge and take responsibility for the defect and safety hazard.

Transmission all the sudden acted like it wasn't ahifting just driving normally on regular paved road, rpms high and dies and has a knock under the hood. tried looking up what is wrong and apparently there are thousands of them that have done same thing. would like to get it fixed but seems no one knows how to fix it

I started to drive my 2005 chrsyler pacifica and took it to the dealership and they said theres no problem with my car when they drove it no codes pull up showing up when they test that. it shifts hard from secound gear to 3 rd gear really hard i cant take off to fast or it does it harder so i half to make sure getting on the high way where i live no one is on either side of the road for me to go so for me to drive slow and pick up speed and it does it when i start to slow down once i slowed down it jerks from secound gear to 3rd gear and its scary i half to take my kids to school and i have 3 kids with me at all times in this car.

Official chrysler service repair shop has been doing my oil changes every 3 months - 4 times a year since 2005 when i purchased the car. not once has their mechanic mentioned the rust of the cross member. i only found out and took pictures this week when i had a local shop change my breaks and do transmission service and they showed me the rust, could not believe that no one ever mentioned this as it was extreme with cracks and holes and that chrysler is aware of this issue regarding rust on cross member due to them not properly coating the engine cradle. chrysler has had certain vin #'s recalled, but claim not mine though build in 2004, i am in a snow belt state ( ny). they don't want to take responsibility. i am afraid to drive car, dangerous and engine can fall out - could cost $4000-5000 to repair front and back - and unfortunately i don't have finances to purchase a new car. i just want my car covered under their warrantee. this problem did not happen over night. i only have 127,000 miles and rarely drive in the snow as it is awful in the snow.

The engine cradle is very rusted

I have been doing a lot of research on my vehicles problems with excessive rust in the subframe. a lot of other owners of this particular vehicle are having the same problems. i need to bring this up because it's getting to the point where i'm not feeling safe to drive it. not sure if the manufactures didn't follow the proper steps on coating the undercarriage of a vehicle. i understand my vehicle is almost 12 years old, i expect some rust to be there but when you see holes big enough to stick your hand inside, it's a problem!! i really take good care of my vehicle and it's has a lot more to give, but this is unacceptable and unsafe. i have seen other vehicles around the same age and do not have such extense rot. i think the manufacturer should be held accountable for this.

Mechanic lifted my 2005 pacifica (150,000+ miles), to change what we thought was a bad crank shaft sensor. while on lift, noticed the engine cradle was over 75% cracked and rusted. he advised this is a very severe driving hazard for me and my 3 children to drive and due to the cracking, the engine could fall at any time. he would not repair and stayed if i were to find a mechanic willing to repair this, is be looking at least $3000. very upset and worried that this being my means of transportation, will it be safe if repaired ? *tr

Rusted engine cradle

Rusted frame. so bad engine may fall out. unable to drive.

My mechanic told me that my car has cradle rot, should not be driven. i went home did my research just to find out that this a common problem. chyrsler is aware of the problem, they used substandard material to create the main frame that supports the engine. there are thousands of people driving a time bomb. how do i get my car fixed?

I took my car into to have a suspension check o replaced the strurss when my mechanic called me and told my that the frame or engine cradle was rusted out. he took some pictures and there are holes in the cradle. he advised me not to put anymore money into this car.

Had my 2005 pacifica in the shop to replace the muffler when they got it up on the rack they found the engine cradle on the passenger side of the car was so rotted they advised me not to drive it. called the dealership and they estimated the cost for repair at $3700. chrysler was notified of the problem and advised me that they would not help financially with any repair costs. what will it take to issue a recall? people dying? do your job nhtsa. recall these cars before someone gets seriously hurt!

Dealership informwd me after my 100,000 mile warranty was up and paying them 2000 dollars to repair other things that the engine cradel was rusted and was dangerous. they let me drive off the lot and i have been back for other repairs and the rust is getting worse. chrysler told me there was only a few month period that they would warranty this problem. what can i do since i cannot afford to fix this problem?

We had been on a road trip and were driving home. we were making a stop to get gas and saw smoke coming out from the engine area. we smelt something burning and found that the firewall insulation had fallen down on the catalytic converter and began to burn. we were able to get the insulation pull out and away from the converter before it caused major damage to the vehicle. if we had not stopped there would have been a fire and destroyed the vehicle. we contacted the chrysler dealership and they said there was no recall and the part was obsolete and they could not do anything for us and also stated that the car was fine and could still be driven. the insulation is there for a reason and this was an unacceptable response from chrysler. we have still been trying to get resolution from chrysler and also called their care center and was given the same response that there was nothing they could do. and provided a phone number for a dealership that deals with mopar parts. again was told that the part was obsolete and not available.

I bought a 2005 chrysler pacifica in may of 2016. when i took it to a garage due to a clunking sound in the front end it was discovered that the engine cradle was rusted through on both sides. many areas under the car are very badly rusted like a car three times as old.

Car in for oil change. informed front subframe complete rusted through. not safe to drive. 2005 car only has 22634 miles. research shows chrysler aware of this problem and hundreds of complaint/class actions filed. states chrysler missed step and did not coat engine cradle allowing severe rust damage. estimate $3181.85 and i want chrysler to cover charges to fix. info found says chrysler only agreed to fix cars built during 2/23/04 - 3/31/04. can you assist in getting chryster to do the right thing and fix at their own expense?

2005 chrysler pacifica i purchased from original owner with only 63000 miles. car while driving, car just accelerates to high speed on its own for no reason. have to put it in neutral to avoid death or injury. today while driving normally, all warning lights came on & we ended up stranded due to weird electrical failure where we can't even get car out of park. passenger headlamp has gone out several times, now drive fog lamp out. there appears to be many mechanical & electrical failures with this car. it's truly horrifying how poorly engineered and dangerous these cars are & i'm forced to drive this wagon with my family as we can't afford to replace it. would like to start a class action lawsuit against chrysler for endangering the public with their dangerous cars. how many people need to die before all these pacifica's are recalled and repurchased by chrysler for book value?

Vehicle sub-frame has rusted, engine cradle rusted. car unsafe to drive. why has a recall not been issued. i brought vehicle in for an oil change. if not informed by my mechanic the engine and transmission could have fallen out with disasterous consequences. a sub-frame should not rust out on a 10 year old vehicle.

Front subframe/engine cradle rusted through could cause engine to fall while in operation. no service bullitons or recalls. seems to be a known isdue with this vehicle

Engine cradle rust. oil change last week, mechanic said he would not let his wife drive this car. 190,000 miles, mechanically just fine, clean, no body rust. engine cradle is a rotted, rusted mess. we may try to weld some thick steel to it in an effort to save the car. nothing to lose at this point, cannot sell it and it's not worth much just sitting.

The engine cradle is rotted so bad the the engine is ready to fall out .

Chrysler pacifica engine cradle rot. new york state dmv refuses to renew my registration due to yearly inspection failed. the safety of the vehicle due to the engine cradle rot. salt corrosion.

Engine cradle rusted out and i've been told it is unsafe to drive. october 2015 i had my car towed to heritage chrysler at 9219 harford road -baltimore, md 21234 because it stopped running. i got it back in december 2015 after they put in a timing belt and replaced the engine. a week after getting it back i had a leak. i took it in and they told me that i needed to have a transmission axle seal replaced. i took it to glen burnie transmission to have the seal replaced and they would not do the work. they showed me how the engine cradle had rusted and they were afraid the engine cradle would break if they remove it. i was informed that it was unsafe to drive because i could hit a bump or pothole and loose the engine and transmission. they could not believe heritage chrysler would put in an engine with the cradle looking like this. i called mr. anderson (the service manager at heritage) and have yet to receive a return call back from him. i have the pictures taken of this problem i contacted chrysler online and was told nothing can be done. please help me get this problem fixed.

Driving down the road, our car started throwing itself into other lanes. mind you, everything is good on the vehicle. struts, tie rod ends, etc... upon observation, you can see the engine cradle is rotted out. the rest of the car is good. mechanics say the car needs to be removed from service. 130,000 miles...really? this is our only car. chrysler (online) says "tough".....

During a routine oil change, my mechanic said the front frame and engine mounts were severely rusted and the car would become inoperable.

Subframe corrosion - the subframe supporting the engine and transmission is rotted out. my mechanic informs me the car is not safe to drive. the engine could fall out of the car.

I went to get the 2005 chrystler pacifica inspected and was told by the mechanic that the bottom was rusted so badly that the engine would fall out, and further that the year make and model was under recall for the same problem, the bottom rusting out horribly. i called chrystler with the vin # and was told this 1 wasn't part of the recall even though it was the same year and make of the recall. i owe 4,400$ on the car and now am told the repairs would exceed 5,000$. i financed it for 6,455$ at the start. i'm disabled and greatly in need of help, i don't know what to do i have made a slew of calls to no avail at this point and continue to make payments as i don't want to ruin my credit, please help me, i don't know what to do.
