2004 chrysler pacifica. i purchased a pacifica on 4/23/08, on 4/25 i noticed that it was not shifting smoothly but really wasn't affecting my driving. on 7/7/08 while driving the car stuttered while trying to shift once again and then threw itself into a low gear. this caused the car to jump forward and almost hit another vehicle. the car would not shift after that. i dropped off the car at dodge service on 7/9 and got the car back 7/14. the car did the same thing again 7/15 and was dropped off the same day, i picked up the car on 7/22 and by 7/23 midday was back in service again. i picked up the car on 7/29 and 7/30 the car was returned to service i have been told that the car will be ready by 8/4 to pick up. this has almost caused several accidents and several hours of work missed. i am afraid of driving this vehicle as i drive with my 2 kids in the car and also in school parking lots, the way it jolts forward when it decide to act up could be lethal in a school lot where kids are. upon ordering a carfax report we found that this is a continuing issue since 2005. *tr

Nhtsa complaint num-04v113000- my vehicle was not apart of this recall, but i need the exact same component. is there a way i can be added to the recall since the affected unit number is just a potential number. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while driving 65 mph, the contact heard a clunking noise coming from the engine. the vehicle cruised to a stop. the vehicle was unable to be moved. the mechanic stated that the front differential failed and damaged the transmission. as of december 12, 2007, the mechanic had not repaired the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were 72,000.

While driving on the interstate 500 miles away from home the transaxle in my 2004 chrysler pacifica broke. when it was towed to a chrysler dealership i was told that it would be sometime until they could obtain a new transaxle as there is a "global back order of them". that in itself should tell the nhts something. since i was 500 miles away from home, labor day weekend and no rental cars available, and no parts available, my only option was to trade a broke down car in on a new one. i will never ever drive another pacifica. it is clear to me now, why they have all the safety features in the pacifica, you will need it when the tractor trailer that is behind you, runs you over when the transaxle breaks. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. on may 30, 2007, the vehicle lost power while driving 25 mph. the contact stated that the same failure occurred the previous day. on both occasions, the vehicle restarted but the most recent loss of power took a little longer. the contact stated that there is safety recall # 04v113000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)) for her vehicle. the engine size was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 80,000.

When driving at highway speeds or slower, when slowing down car would shake bad, took to dealer, said bad tires. replaced tires keep doing it, back to dealer 3 weeks later left tire rod was bad. dealer replaced brakes, rotors at 25,000 miles, we now have 53,000 when rod goes out. help also transmission problems resulting in loose bolts in front axles loud clunk back again. *jb

Front trans bracket broke. asked chyrsler to do something. they expedite part through service/parts at dealership. told 3 month wait with no definite delivery. no part available due to backlog. ten customers waiting for part in united states. believe this is a defective part and safety defective part. transmission/ engine can come apart while vehicle is moving. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while attempting to turn at various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. after stalling, the engine was easily restarted. upon inspection by a dealer, it was determined the automatic transmission computer software needed to be reprogrammed. after the transmission software was updated, the problem persisted. there was a nhtsa recall, # 04v113000, regarding the automatic transmission. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin. the manufacturer was notified.

My 2004 pacifica will not start at times. sometimes 2 weeks can go by without incident, but then the car will not start until i hold my foot on the gas. the dealer claims that unless it happens while at their shop, they cannot do anything. also, the drivers side memory mirror will change position and make a sound like gears trying to engage but cannot. again, the dealer could not find a problem although it happens each time i use it. i complained about the transmission being sluggish from a parked position, they told me they could not find a problem. i asked them to drive it. they claim the motor mount was broken. they said it happened because of a fender bender i was in. the fender bender occurred two months after purchasing the car and i have been driving it two years since that event without problem. my headliner keeps sagging where the headliner meets the moonroof. they have fixed it now three times each time using sticky tape. it doesn't work. *jb

1-my 2004 pacifica will not start at times. sometimes 2 weeks can go by without incident, then the car will not start until i hold my foot on the gas. the dealer claims that unless it happens while at their shop, they cannot do anything. 2- the drivers side mirror will change position and make a sound like gears trying to engage but cannot. again, the dealer could not find a problem although it happens each time i use it. 3- i complained about the transmission being sluggish from a parked position until it passes first gear. they told me they could not find a problem. they told me i could pick up the car. i asked them to drive it. they now found the problem and claim the motor mount was broken. they said it happened because of a fender bender i was in. the fender bender occurred two months after purchasing the car and i have been driving it two years since that event without a problem. 4- my headliner keeps sagging where the headliner meets the moonroof. they have fixed it now three times. they said the manual tells them to use sticky velcro tape. i keeps happening. *jb

While i am driving and if my air conditioner is on there is a dramatic loss of power to the engine, if i am at a stop light and have to climb a hill from a complete stop i in most cases have to turn the power to my air off so the engine will increase its power and i can climb the hill. if i do not turn the air off the rpms race up really high and i am only going maybe 20 miles per hour and the transmission will not shift and the engine is roaring. so once to the top of the hill it finally shifts but extremely hard as though something underneath the vehicle just broke.. another thing that happens is also a problem with the transmission and how hard it hits when it shifts, it has always seemed like it was not fluid and easy as it should be. almost as though it is difficult for it, especially coming down from about 35 miles per hour and lower down into the second to 1st gears. it worries me that a vehicle in its price range and considering what i paid for it that it should be more of a joy and comfort for me to own and drive than it is. i am afraid that one day that the transmission is going to completely stop shifting since it is such a struggle for it to do so... what are the rules for a consumer that believes they have a vehicle with defaults or a lemon? is there anything a consumer can do ? *jb

The chrysler pacifica 2004 is an extremely dangerous vehicle. the car stalled three times on me on the highway where i nearly got into an accident. another time, the right axle came off and the car rolled down a hill and nearly hit a woman. i could have killed people many times with the pacifica since it is an extremely dangerous vehicle to drive. i found out that many people have these exact same issues. please do something about it before it gets too late. thank you. *nm

After pulling into a parking space, i was unable to get the car into park. it was stuck in drive. after several attempts, i got it into neutral. this was dangerous since i was at a storefront. shifter assembly and interlock cable was repaired. *jb

Pleae be advised that both my engine lower mounts were leaking-one was dried out totally the other was almost dried -i was able to order oem chrysler parts for my 2004 pacifica and had it repalced as soon as possible (might be a design flaw) and or bad parts beings used. none the less this accured at about 28,800 =/- to mature for these items to be needing replacement.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. while making a left turn, the vehicle completely shuts off and has to be restarted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times and the failure was unable to be duplicated. there is recall # 04v113000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)) on the vehicle but the contact's vin is not included. the failure continues to persist. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 30,000 and failure mileage was 8,000.

My wife was parked. when she put the car into drive the lever did not stay in drive. it bounced into reverse and when she started to go forward the force of the reverse caused her to push harder on the accelerator hitting the vehicle behind her and one on the drivers side. we could not duplicate the problem again nor could the dealer while it was in for body repair. my wife lost confidence in this vehicle and we ended up trading it in for a major loss in $. we liked the vehicle and ended up bying another one and noticed that the shiftier had a totally different set up. we questioned chrysler at the time and they said that there was no problem. a couple of years later we met someone who had the same vehicle as we did at the time, and they had a similar problem as we did but theirs ended up jamming and when they forced it, it broke the plastic sliding cover. once that happened they had not other problems with it. they tried to replace the cover but none were available. this leads me to believe that chrysler knew of the problem and elected to ignore it as it did not draw national attention i am not sure it this is too late for any corrective action or not, but i think they should be brought to task for ignoring it.

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chrysler pacifica. she purchased the car in march of 2005 . she had to go back to the dealer every weekend since purchasing the vehicle except for the month of june. the vehicle was making a clanking noise due to transfer case malfunctioning. transfer case was replaced previously in april, 2005, and needed to be replaced again. also, vehicle surged while driving. . she felt unsafe driving vehicle. the manufacturer said that the dealer has to take care of the vehicle and has to get a service representative to inspect the vehicle. the contact felt that until something was resolved with this vehicle there will be a fatality . the vehicle was taken to the dealer for 17 times for various problems.*ak

After having my pacifica for 1.5 years and experiencing 19 problems (54 days in the shop!); 2-3 of which are recurring (i.e. the engine light coming on), even the service department at my dealership stated that they would stand behind my efforts to get a vehicle replacement! we are completely happy with the dealership's service as they have stood behind this "lemon" better than the manufacturer appears to be able to. after talking with the chrysler representative, mr. craig kishner, i was informed that the "best" chrysler could do was to refund my extended warranty price. i pushed back and my boyfriend also called to announce our dismay at the manner in which we are being treated after being tremendously patient for 1.5 years to see if this "lemon" could be repaired to a reasonable level of usability. mr kishner then came back with the answer that chrysler would only "step up" for the previously laughable answer. we had hoped for a laudable answer. i find it difficult to believe that a manufacturer, with the questionable track record of chrysler, would want to create more adverse publicity than they already have chalked up over the course of their existence. nonetheless, we will pursue this through the courts and undoubtedly tell all of our friends and business colleauges of this horrific experience. *ak

Vehicle was in a parking space when all of a sudden it lurched forward and then it popped into reverse. manufacturer will be contacted by consumer.*ak

Transmission unit failure. has been to the dealer 3 times that i can remember. clicking popping noise in the transmission or axle. "fixed" 3 times 2) 3 electrical problems a) display for heating and ac went out. it was repaired b) display for message center went out. it was repaired c) the gas guage would "go empty" then "refill" all while driving. it was repaired 3) now i just found gear oil on my garage floor, the rear axle seals are leaking.i'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated when the vehicle was started, the engine sputtered and died twice. the vehicle was able to be started, and while driving 30 mph, flames were observed coming from the underside of the engine compartment. the vehicle was stopped, the fire department was called, and the vehicle was taken to a service dealer. the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the fire. the manufacturer was also notified. the following day, the check engine light illuminated constantly. the vehicle was taken back to the service dealer several times, however the dealer was still unable to determine any problems. since that time, while driving at various speeds, the engine sputtered briefly on several occasions. on one occasion, the vehicle sputtered and stalled completely. the vehicle was able to be restarted immediately and was driven to a different service dealer, who replaced parts of the fuel system and the oxygen sensor. the problems persisted. there was a nhtsa recall #06v432000, which pertains to the automatic transmission control module. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.

2004 chrysler pacifica developed problems with the transmission and the wheel bearings. *mr the consumer experienced problem upon the arrival at home on the first day of purchase. there were clunking sounds when in drive, reverse, shift or reverse to drive, a whine when decelerating at 30-40 mph, excess backlash in the differential. the service dealer notes stated that there was incorrect gear lash and bearing preload upon original assembly from the factory. the dealer fixed the wheel bearing and stated that the transmission was normal. the consumer requested a refund. *sc

I purchased my 2004 chrysler pacifica approximately one year ago. i currently have over 18,000 miles on the vehicle, which has been plagued with problems. my engine light has stayed on almost continuously since july 2004. the service department can't seem to repair this problem. the egr sensor failed on a recent trip and my vehicle began to lose power and make loud noises that could be heard by other drivers on the road. the ball joints have had to be replaced. the axle seals have been replaced and now an axle has to the replaced. either my vehicle is the only lemon in the orchard or chrysler has a serious problem with the pacifica.*ak

Leased pacifica 7-2004. by 11-2004 9000 miles started makeing loud popping sounds from front end. dealer tryed to concel problem with pto unit that they knew was faulty, after taking car home, on a we had to order new part they let me drive this car with no repairs made at that time. 2 weeks later we contacted the service director and he reveled the problem and part was replaced. now in may 2005 it is making loud thumps in the front end when decelrating and acelerating car is at the dealership at this time. one other problem was water on passenger side floor they had not sealed a tube properly at time of manufacture.

On wednesday i had heard a noise from under my hood, i figured i would bring it up when i brought my car in next week for an oil change. on friday i was driving in a parking garage (which i have done hundreds of other times) when my car hit a column at the top of the turn. it was a hard left turn, at 5-7 mph. the results over $12,000 of damage! the axle was ripped out of the transmission along with many other broken parts. basically my front left tire was hanging like a loose tooth. all the broken parts were pushed to just under my pedals.the appraiser said that if this happened at higher speeds it would have broken my legs. all parts were replaced (through my insurance) but now i have a new car that i do not feel safe in. at the time the car had 4,800 miles on it. after reading cases like 10096021 and 10087837, did i have a defect? is it a good thing that it did not happen on a highway?*ak

Consumer received recall 04v13000 concerning transmission failure. no parts were available. *ak

The transmission was making a clanking noise. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and had the transfer case replaced on two occasions, yet the problem recurred. the consumer later contacted the manufacturer, who was unwilling to do anything about the problem. *ak the noise was heard when shifting in and out of park, drive and reverse, the vehicle leaked a brownish color fluid and the fuel gauge would go in and out. *sc

2004 chrysler pacifica - purchased river oaks chrysler houston:1) i have had on-going minor problems with this vechicle since i purchased it. these problems have required for me to take the car in to the river oaks chrysler service department on a regular basis during the past year (lemon?). 2) yesterday october 18, i experienced one of the worst problems with this car. i was leaving my neighborhood and was at a stop sign. i started to make a left turn when i heard a loud noise as if metal was breaking and cracking. the car started to shake violently. i had to grab onto the steering wheel very hard to control it. i had trouble steering it as the wheels did not seem to want to move. i was able to pull it to the side and get assistance (i feel fortunate that it did not happen on the hgway, as the consequences would probably not have been good). the car has 20,000 miles. i do not travel far as i am a stay home mom and most of my driving is doing errands and taking my kids to school. the car was towed to river oaks, chrysler in houston where the car is sitting in their service department. the latest i heard was that the axle broke. my concern is that this is a 1 year old car and it had a major failure such as this one. so many things have gone wrong with this vechicle that i find it unreliable and unsafe and i hate for something like this to happen to someone else. thank you for your attention to this matter. leesbeth silva. *ak

I purchased the car from carmax 08/03, with 500 miles on it. at the end of 09/04, with 2200 miles, i began to have problems with the fuel light. i took it in for service for the fuel light on 10/6, 10/11, 12/18, and 12/27/04. each time service said it was due to a gas cap not being tightend, and or gas was being topped off. they didn't tell me they replaced a c34 fuel line clip on 12/18, and on 12/27 they replaced the egr system. i continued to have the same problems 1/11 and 1/17/05. on 1/17/05 they replaced a detector for general evap system failure/replace nvld pump. 1/25/05, service again for the headlamps not working, they found no problem. i was not told they did a recall on 10/06/04 on the auto transmission powertrain controle module. i found out, via the internet there was a recall on the headlamps, and they could go out anytime. i received another recall in the mail on the seat control module and drivers door handle, so i took the car in for both recalls 03/31/05. i got home that evening, and now i can't get into the car through the driver's side! this whole car is a lemon and should be recalled! *ak

While traveling west on i-80, (the ohio turnpike) my 2004 chrysler pacifica, lost all power from the power train. this happened suddenly, with no prior indications of a problem, in heavy truck traffic, while travelling at 75 mph. *ak it required over four days to repair the vehicle, as the technician determined that the transmission had no pressure. this was caused by a burned-out router in the transmission pump. i was was shown the replacement part and noted the interiour was machined to a intirerly different configuration. i was also informed that the initial production runs all had this design fault. the tech. that repaired the auto ,also stated tha they were informed of this at their training schools. chyrysler knows about this defect..a very costly recall, i'm sure. the consequences of a failure of this nature is not very difficult to forsee, an inexperperienced driver passing a line of cars on a two lane road, or ,in my case, two days prior to the sudden failure, we were driving in the steep montains of tennessee, and north carolina in fairly heavy , fast moving traffic. the auto was repaired at no cost to me, however i no longer have confidence in the car, due to the complexity of the repair, and the consequential damage that the faulity design had on the auto both prior to the failure, during the failure, but also due to the complexity of the repair

Safety recall regarding the power control module on the 2004 chrysler pacifica. *mr vehicle stalled without warning while driving. vehicle was taken to a service dealership, but they said that there's nothing they can do to duplicate the problem. *la

On 7 separate occasions vehicle failed to start. when this occurred vehicle was towed to the dealership, who replaced the battery/transmission, and main computer. also, did a software upgrade. the failure recurred. *ak

Consumer received nhtsa recall 04v113000 concerning the automatic transmission control module. after having the automatic transmission control module software reprogrammed, the vehicle jerked and stalled. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for inspection but mechanic could not duplicate the problem. *ak *jb

Fluid leak from engine compartment, popping/grinding noise from front end at low speeds. dealer unable to locate leak or isolate grinding noise after 3 service attempts. *ak

Vibration in the front end when turning, either a left u-turn or a right turn at a intersection or similar 90 degree turn. the problem appears to come from the right side (passenger side) of the vehicle. took to the dealer on 2/13/04 and the technician was unable to pinpoint the problem. *jb

Two days after purchasing car (400 miles on the odometer), transmission sticks in first gear, and the speedometer stops working. car has to be turned all the way off to reset. dealer could not find problem (insinuates that i do not understand how to drive the car.) had problem again tonight (2/11/04.) back to dealer.*ak

Electrical/transmission. *ak

Car rolled backward down drive way while car was in park. my wife was almost run over as she was standing outside the driver door while the door was open. the car rolled down the driveway (2% grade), into the street with the driver door open and pushing my wife into my neighbor's mailbox and up my neighbor's curb. *la

Consumer heard heavy clicking noise, especially when turning the corner. vehicle was in the shop three times due to cv joints/left front hub, and problems associated with the axle. the problems were not yet corrected. *ak

There is a continuous popping noise when the steering wheel is fully turned either to the left or right. dealership replaced both front axles, axle clip, and did some modification, but the noise still persists. *ak

Automatic transmission stuck in first gear. check engine light on. *la

Dt: i was driving on freeway and slowed for other traffic when brake pressure applied and it then began shaking and stopped. upon stopping it revved then geared down. took to dealer, and they made some adjustments to the transmission, but said nothing was wrong. this happened again. returned to dealer, who thought this was a computer problem, when tried to repair it they fried the computer system in car. the car still has this problem. contact feels this car is not drivable due to this situation. also, has a clanking sound. has to been to dealer for this, and said it was brakes, and adjusted those brakes. yet this car still has problems. *ak
