We have classified the 87 complaints from 2006 Chrysler 300C about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Car continuously dies or stalls while driving. my wife has also been almost rear ended or hit multiple times due to this issue. because the car will die while making a turn or at a stop light. the car will also cut out while driving on the freeway at 75 mph. the car will sometimes die and will not re-start leaving her stuck in traffic. i have taken the vehicle multiple times to the dealership as well as other mechanics and they keep telling me its the pcm which has been replace three times.

Hello last night my wife almost died car stopped on the freeway on the midlle of the night which she almost got rear ended at vey high speed .today took to the shop which the code it comes designate to the transmission problem which come to find out lots of others customer been experiencing the same issues scary part is chrysler is not doing nothing about it this is sad a company of this magnitude can even keep it honest with their product
Car completely shuts off out of nowhere even going 55 mph on the highway, almost caused a major accident! starts jumping gears mainly when the rpm is at 1 going into 2. when this happens the lights in the car flicker. after the car dies out, when you restart it its stuck in neutral even though you are in drive. once you shut it off again and restart it, its as if nothing was wrong. there is a brand new alternator and a brand new battery in the car and it still shuts down whether you're going 55 on a highway or sitting at light ready to take off and it dies out then as well. i have children, this is very dangerous and scary! i have read that many individuals are having this same exact issue, please do something before someone gets seriously hurt. thank you
2006 chrysler 300c. consumer writes in regards to engine failure. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle was firmly locked in park. the vehicle was repaired. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked and stalled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was not duplicated. the failure recurred. courtesy dodge in grand rapids, michigan (616-452-2143) and van andel and flikkema chrysler jeep in grand rapids, mi (616-363-9031) advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not taken to either of the dealers. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 88,700.
Problem: momentary loss of power, check engine and etc lights flash. sometimes stalls completely (when very slow or stopped). it has stopped on me a couple of times while turning. to stall while turning across traffic is unsafe. parts replaced so far: gas tank (recall) gas pump accelerator pedal diagnosis: apparent intermittent connection at the pcm. last repair attempt(11/29/17) the technician repaired the connection by aligning the pins (apparently some had pushed through the board) & cleaning the connection. it has worked fine for about 2 weeks since then, but is failing again. the technician now says there is a problem with the pcm (powertrain control module), possibly due to broken solder joints on the board that cannot be repaired. there are currently no pcms available from dealers and there are 67 units on backorder in the past few weeks . . . many with similar failure modes. from the repair shop: "diagnosed and traced multiple faults to communication loss at power train control module. removed unit from holder and while engine is running if the unit it tapped or shaken the engine will stumble or stall. - contacted computer repair shop and this is very common issue for several chrysler in last month or so . the main processor gets loose on circuit board but the contacts are so tiny repair is not possible. no local dealers have unit and there are 67 on back order in last weeks."
I was driving one day my chrysler 300 c 5.7 hemi shut off in the middle of the freeway i pulled over to the side of the road car coasted cause everything shut off i put it in park tried to restart car wouldn't start did it a few times car started and died idled rough felt like i was running outa gas would stay at the right roma keep stalling out so i gave it gas and car stopped shaking and ran fine a month later did the same thing this time check engine light came on and said random multi misfire all cylinders i spent 1800 replacing the coil packs plugs and still didn't fix it turns out the valve seat dropped and chewed one piston up all too heck needs a new motor only had the car for $ months has 112,000 miles on it don't have the money for new motor cars just sitting with head off and valve seat is gone
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. when the vehicle was started, the gear shifter did not move out of park. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
Vehicle completely stalls and shifts into low gear due to a known issue to chrysler with water entering the transmission through the dipstick tube. contacted chrysler and was informed about a service bulletin with over 1100 complaints about this issue and they offer no assistance with repairs or issue a recall on this matter which may cost consumers up to 2500 to get fixed.
Engine will start, car will not shift out of park. just called chrysler. they will tow at a cost of $50.00 to me. chrysler will tow to the dealer to fix the problem that they are aware of per tsb k39, at a cost to me to fix, to be reimbursed at some mythical date chrysler deems acceptable. i will ride my unicorn to work tomorrow...
Wife was driving car and transmission fluid was pouring out when put on a rack and adding fluid unnecessarily there was no leakage car would not move did a transmission service runs great but there is still water in transmission fluid because it is strawberry color car was drove two miles with fluid in transmission.
2006 chrysler 300c | engine stall while driving | possibly tipm-related i purchased my 2006 chrysler 300c just short of 6 months ago. within the first week, as i was taking a left hand turn the ignition completely shut off. while the power was still active, i could not drive the car until i turned over the vehicle to restart the car. thinking it was possibly a fringe issue i ignored to issue. fast forwarding to today, my wife and i have experienced roughly 25-50 occurrences of the vehicle shutting off while the vehicle was in motion. i have been paying for a vehicle that only seems to work when it feels like it and what concerns me most is that every day i drive this vehicle i am endangering the lives of my wife and five children.
Gear shifter on my 2006 chrysler 300c got stuck in park on 6/25/17 at about 98,400 miles. luckily car was in my driveway when problem occurred and i was able to look up this issue online and found out this is a common problem with chrysler vehicles. apparently there was a k39 recall relating to this same gear shift problem. but for some reason, that recall only covered the 2005-2007 300 lx models, not the 300c model. here is link to recall letter: http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/lx/tsb_300c_forums/csn_k39.pdf. i don't think this is right to not include the 300c models if it had the same poorly designed pink plastic transmission gear shift lever interlock return spring hook as this is the cause of the gear shifter being stuck in park. i found a youtube video on how to temporarily get my car out of park gear with a screwdriver. and another video to show people how to replace the transmission gear shift lever interlock return spring hook themselves. with the existence of these youtube videos, this should be a good indication that this is a common problem with some chrysler models. but why did they not recall the 2005-2007 300c models??? here are links to the youtube videos: 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxtdogvon1w, 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prorqdfjcp4, 3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cd6ocitj3k
My 2006 chrysler 300c srt8 6.1l engine stalls randomly when stopped, coming to a stop or cruising speed. sometimes it'll take months for reoccurrence then out of nowhere it happens while, engine stalled. happens while make a turn at a light also. starts back up and sometimes stalls instantly. after like the third stall check engine light comes on and the only fault code is p0700. bought the car in 2015 and less than two months later is when i experienced my first occurrence. took it to the dealership three times that year and they said they could not duplicate the problem or figure out what's wrong. about five months later (2016) it happens again, engine stalls out of nowhere on the freeway. this time it wouldn't start so i had it towed back to the dealership. after two months of them having my car they said it was the transmission control module so i agreed to replace it. two months later same thing again so obviously the transmission control module wasn't the problem. might i add that randomly while driving there is a hard "buck" from the transmission, like it wants to lock up. i've been in and out of the dealership with this problem for two years now and chrysler claims to not know what the problem is. i am terrified every time i'm in this vehicle. i feel it is an accident waiting to happen. i'm still paying for this car but need to know what the issue is and how to solve it. dealership says there is no recalls or updates available for my car.

Cannot move shift from park position
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the transmission failed to switch from the park position. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission shift gear interlock lever failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,000. updated 10/05/16*lj *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact could not shift the vehicle out of the park position. the contact notified the manufacturer. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the brake inner lock return spring hook fractured. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Car randomly stalls, at any speed, dash lights flash on and off, wipers turn on by them self , horn sounds by itself. had it at the dealership for 2 months, had at sometimes 40+ codes come up on the computer. changed multiply modules they cant figure it out
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer several times for repairs; however, the failure recurred a month later. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 89,500.
Vehicle stalled out at about 5 mph. next day vehicle stalled out at 65 mph on interstate. very dangerous situation. repair facility could find no problem, had expensive major tuneup, but problem still exists.
The floor shifter is stuck in park an hour away from home. there is actually a recall on this problem (chrysler customer satisfaction notification k39 transmission shifter interlock lever) that includes my model and year, but not my specific vehicle. the vin numbers of vehicles that qualify for free replacement are apparently too selective, judging by the number of complaints online of like vehicles that have experienced the same problem. why limit the recall to specific vin numbers, when even chrysler has identified that there is a range of vehicles that could, and actually are incurring the problem, but are not being covered?
I was driving my car to work and i stopped at a stop sign. i made an attempt to make a smooth merge into traffic but my car made little effort to move. i stepped on the gas and it struggled to speed forward as if it was stuck in a high gear. in order to get the transmission to shift again, i had to pull over, turn off my vehicle, and turn it back on. after work, a similar issue rose. i was in stop and go traffic and when i hit the gas to move forward, it struggled until the vehicle gained speed of about 10mph, then it picked up speed as normal as if it was stuck in 2nd gear. when i got home, my engine temperature reached 217 which is well above normal. the car isn't giving me a code so i can know what exactly needs to be fixed. *tr
After fueling my car to full tank capacity (93 octane as always) i pulled out of the gas station and slowed down to stop at a red light (traveling at less than 10 mph). the engine stalled as i came to a full stop. i placed the transmission in park and re-started the engine. engine started fine and i drove for about 5 miles with no further issue. note: check engine light did not come on and all other dash indications were normal. after parking the vehicle i inspected the gas cap and verified that it was secured tight and not loose. also checked under the fuel tank and engine compartment for anything out of the ordinary. did not see or smell anything obvious. *tr
I stopped at an rr crossing to wait for the train to pass by shutting down the engine to decrease pollution. the vehicle restarted but i was unable to shift from park to drive and i was stalled in the middle of the road. being locked in park, i could not even be pushed out of traffic.after checking the internet this is a well known problem with this make & model and certain vin's have been recalled to correct by chrysler. there are thousands more on the road that did not fall under the recall but are experiencing the same safety problem. sitting in your driveway and not being able to move the vehicle is one thing, sitting in the middle of the road as i was is an entirely different situation. all vehicles of this make & model need to be recalled immediately! *tr
After fueling (filling) our 2006 300c the car was started successfully. after engaging the transmission and pulling away from the pump the engine suddenly stalled. after letting the car sit for a few minutes, the car successfully restarted and continued to run. this has happened a couple times a month since the first incident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300 c. the contact stated that the gear shifter lever became stuck in park. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the transmission shifter assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
It is extremely difficult to put shifter into park. it is usually stuck between r and p. i am required to forcefully pull shifter into neutral to start. this car has been plagued with some type of electrical issue that i have spent nearly $1000 trying to determine. i am unaware if the problem is related, but my concern is when it appears to be in park, the backup light are on. i can push the shift to put into park. i have removed the shroud in hopes to figure it out. this car is a pain. *tr
Walked out of the house to go to work. car started fine but could not get it out of park. got online found out their was a recall and this is a common problem. called the dealership and they said my car is not under the recall. now the dealership wants to charge me 350 to replace the shifter but its only a small part. if this is common why are all the cars on this recall? *tr
Park lock out failed. unable to shift out of park.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Vehicle will not shift out of park. vehicle will start normally, however the console mounted automatic shifter will not shift out of park. problem appears to be with the pink plastic transmission shift interlock latch. the tab that is connected to the return spring fails and does not allow the transmission to shift out of park. this was discussed with local service department and they acknowledged this has happened to other vehicles. an internet research has indicated this to be a wide spread problems for 2005-2007 chrysler, dodge vehicles to the extent that there is an after-marked aluminum part to resolve the issue. if the issue is sufficient to warrant an after-marked part to be created it is serious enough to warrant investigation and consideration for a recall.
The 300 had a recall on the fuel tank, which was replaced january 2015 by tate in frederick md. since then the stalling issue has gotten worse. i took the car to tate 4 times, and was told 4 different diagnostics. 1= transmission, 2= battery, 3=plugs & coils, 4=canister for extra fuel. i replaced the spark plugs & coils. which didn't correct the issue. i took it to a 2nd dealer. darcar's in rockville md and they are now telling me that its the transmission control module & power control module. my car no matter if there is a full tank or a 1/4 of tank stalls when i am at idle. it can stall once or the max is 9 times. i have a 1 1/2 year old & 5 year old which is a safety issue. i found this forum, which are other people having the same issue & different dealers are throwing different parts. i don't think the replacement of the fuel tank corrected this true issue. can you please help me with discovering the true cause and making the cars safe for the drivers and passengers? *tr
While trying to merge on the freeway the motor stalled and made a rolling drumming not a high pitch noise wouldn't re start towed it home got it started and the engine is making a loud squeak noise it won't idle on its own and it stalls when put into gear. *tr
2006 chrysler 300c, automatic transmission. transmission shifter would not shift out of park. the vehicle is equipped with a pink plastic transmission shifter interlock lever. this lever has a hook for the spring to hook onto. the hook broke, causing the shifter to lock in the "park" position. this leaves the car inoperable. *tr
Vehicle will stall while driving or surge while trying to stop without notice for up to thirty minutes or approximately 20 miles after normal fuel up (no topping off!). i suddenly surged while approaching another vehicle from behind at a stop light and my vehicle nearly caused a collision. while driving on a two-lane curved road the vehicle stalled causing loss of steering and near collision with on-coming traffic and had to stop quickly which caused a road hazard for other vehicles coming around a tight turn behind me. once restarted, i continued on same road and vehicle died again in a turn on same road causing the steering to go out again which lead to veering off the road and with the potential of falling down a 30 foot un-guarded decline. vehicle will stall and surge while in idle as well. i have been able to replicate this issue reliably on three separate occasions. i welcome any skeptics from chrysler or other investigative authorities to contact me so that i may demonstrate the severity of this issue if necessary. this is dangerous!!! *tr
After re-fueling vehicle, car stalled at 5 intersections. vehicle was difficult to restart. vehicle would not always go back into gear after restarting until several attempts were made. after burning off a few gallons of fuel on the highway, the vehicle no longer stalled/misfired. tank was not "topped-off" when filled, it was filled until the pump stopped automatically. stalling occurs every time vehicle is filled to full. *tr
After filling the car a chrysler 300c stalls. this is now an ongoing problem as the car now stalls after fueling. the stall occurs mostly when stopped at a red-light or driving at a low rate of speed. it has now progressed to include when accelerating onto a interstate.the stall causes all safety systems to fail ie. breaks, steering, et. i have called the local dealership and the chrysler hotline 800-992-1997 and was informed that the national highway traffic safety administration, chrysler will extend fuel-tank warranties does not apply to 2006 chrysler 300c models. i was told the malfunctioning shut-off float and gas tank neck splash issue is not covered. *tr
After filling up the fuel tank from a start of 1/8 th to full tank, the car stalled after leaving the service station about 200 feet down the road while stopped at a light. after getting the vehicle restarted i began to accelerate from the stopped position but driving power train was fairly erratic as the car attempted to lurch forward or accelerate unpredictably then would pull back by nearly stalling. this continued for several miles before reaching my driveway. the car while in neutral loped substantially from 2000 rpm to 100rpm several times before stalling. attempting to start the car after stalling was successful. leaving the car parked and off for 60 minutes had no beneficial effect. after returning the starting was very difficult and the instrument panel gauges were not lit until the car started again. the car continues to be idle erratically both while in park and in drive and at slow speeds. *tr
After leaving the gas station (filling the tank) the car sputtered a few times, then as i approached a stop light it stalled out. i pulled away okay but it stalled again at the next light. after getting gas, the car is hesitant while driving and stalls out, usually lasting for 1-3 miles. *tr
I filled up my chrysler 300 just after buying it for the first time. after fill up i pulled away from the gas station and got to the stop light and it stalled. i restarted it and it would not go into gear at first but after a minute it did. went for about hundred feet and it stalled again in front of my house. then the next morning it ran fine until i filled it up again and it did the same thing stalled right after i filled it with gas i checked with the local dealer and they said they are aware of this problem and that it is an issue with the design of the gas tank and purge valve that only can be corrected by replacement of the fuel tank. i checked online and this an issue has happened for many owners and they have been told the same thing by there dealers. it is a factory design error that only be corrected by the fuel tank replacement as well as the purge valve. the reason it stalls is that when filled up the tank and purge vale floods the throttle body with raw fuel and the car stalls this stalling can cause an accident very easy as well as effecting the emissions of the vehicle. i feel that chrysler should issue a recall for this defect which i understand has effected the dodge charger as well as the challenger. *tr
Vehicle stalled twice after filling up the gas tank, once exiting the gas station waiting for the light to turn green and another 3 minutes later at another light on the feeder road of the highway. i have never had any other issues as car is well maintained: oil changes with synthetic, air filter, transmission service, spark plugs, ect. i also only use 89 octane fuel as recommended in the owners manual. *tr
5 minutes after filling up my 06 chrysler 300c srt-8 6.1l at a gas station i was crossing over traffic to make a left turn and my car died in the middle of oncoming traffic. it took several minutes to restart then lurched forward after put into gear. this is the second time right after filling my tank this has occurred. the time before it stalled merging onto interstate on ramp. *tr
L- the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300 c. the contact stated that the she was unable to shift the vehicle out of the park position. the vehicle will be towed to a local dealer for inspection. the vehicle has not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer has not been notified of the incident. the approximate failure mileage was 60000.- ll
The car has been stalling out after being started. now it is almost shutting off or becoming unresponsive mid acceleration from a stop sign. the car will at random stall. the engine does not need to be restarted so far while driving. it will "die" for a few seconds and then comes back again just short of complete engine shut down. rear window on passenger side is also non responsive. it has only worked once since i have had the car. *tr
My 2006 chrysler 300c (hemi 5.7) will stall at low speeds or when stopped at a traffic light. the car does restart. at higher speeds (e.g,, 60mph), the vehicle will exhibit a sudden loss of power (drop in rpms, followed by a chime sound) as if the engine is about to stall, before reaccelerating again. the stalling/loss of power issue does not occur all the time. sometimes, the car will operate as long as a day or two without incident. the dealer performed a complete system diagnostic - retrieved code po700 - related to loss of communication with pcm to multiple modules. (they may have been old stored codes.) then, they cleared the codes, road tested the car, but could not replicate the problem. the dealer returned the car and asked me to monitor it. they indicated that if the issue re-occurs, the vehicle will possibly need a pcm or ignition switch. my impression is that they are guessing at what the issue may be. the day after the car was returned to me, the same sudden stalling/loss of power issues recurred although the engine diagnostic light has not come on. i will be returning the car to the dealer, even though they have not been able to pinpoint the problem to date. i am very concerned about the sudden stalling and loss of power. this is a very serious safety issue that can result in an accident. i am married with a 9 month old baby. *tr
