Problems with 2013 Chrysler 300 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My 18 year old son was driving the car at about 40-50 miles an hour on a very busy street in bellevue washington, a city he's not familiar with when the car suddenly shifted into park and would no longer accelerate. he had to think quickly and by the grace of god he was able to momentarily get the car in drive and pull over into a driveway. once stopped the car would not shift into any other gear, it would revert back to park regardless of what gear you shifted it into. we tried to shift it into drive and it reverted back to park. this is the second very serious situation i've had with this car. the fuse happens over a year ago when the car just stopped running in the middle of driving. i almost got hit by a bus but luckily i was also able to think quick nd turn into a urgent care parking lot. it was a faulty alternator that was a part of a recall. i am very scared to drive this car and do not want my so. to ever drive it. it's supposed to be a second car for him to drive but its unsafe. i want chrysler to pay me out of my loan as i never want to drive this car again and i still owe $15,000 on this car.

After first recall with alternate all electronic systems started to fail suspension was going bad

My trunk is constantly popping, it was staying shut as long as the car was locked. now it's popping all the time, when i turn on my car, when my cars off but i'm pumping gas, while i'm driving. it's crazy 😜. i brought it to the dealership but they thought it was my key fob. that's not the issue. what could it be??? one day when it was super snowy out my car was parked and locked outside of my house and the alarm started going to off so i went out to see what was going on. my truck had popped. this has been happening for months

Was at a red light and car started to shake then i pulled over off the road and shut it off and my car never started back up again

Driving in town apprx. 35 mph check battery notification appeared on dash for the first time within 5 minutes the lights dimmed all dash lights began to blink message on dash said power saving mode and car shut off about 4 minutes later

I turned on the vehicle and after few minutes the car shows battery mode on the screen. right after that the vehicle smells with a strong burn fume from the engine. then the vehicle turned off and went dead no electrical power at all. thanks god i was parked when all this happened. no one was able to jump the car with another battery to get it started.

At 7:30 pm on the fdr drive approaching exit 17 at about 45 mph. my chrysler 300 went completely dead while driving with my children in the car. no warning the car just came to abrupt stop sliding for about 10 feet before fully stopping. the engine went dead the light went off i couldn't steer nothing on the car works, never seen anything like that in my life. thank god it was still bright out so i can and other driver was able to see me to avoid hitting the car otherwise we could of been dead or a very nasty accident. the nypd came ask what happen they said it's the alternator i used a jumper i had in the back to jump it it started i exit the highway it stop dead again no warning on 125 st. the officers activated the shift lock and help me push it to the side of the road. where i paid $217 to have it towed to brooklyn. called star chrysler sunday explaining what happen they said their service dept closed sunday. called back 7 am monday, they won't even come tow or send a tow truck. miss terry telling me it's my responsibility to have the car towed to them. i paid another $190 to tow the car from brooklyn to queens village ny. got there they insist i leave the car and go home don't even want to say why the car almost killed me and my kids. tuesday 7 am i called for an update miss terry said we didn't get to look at it yesterday we'll try to get it in today, is she kidding me. that so irresponsibly

Nhtsa recall number: 17v-435. for the past eight months i have tried to have this service recall taken care of. i have brought my car to my local dealership multiple times and was told that the parts have not shipped yet. i have made multiple documented phone calls to the recall chrysler customer care handling the recall for me and failed to get the replacement part. chrysler has been delaying the recall parts so that the vehicle warranties run out. on 4/11/2018 at 1 pm chrysler alternator started smoking. all the units in the cars were fried. would not shut off i had no control of anything. i also have a video of what happen and getting little help from chrysler.

17v-435 recall. message light shows on dash saying "battery saver mode". take car to dealer who cannot understand why msg is showing. runs diagnostics and cannot find any problem. says does not have parts to replace the alternator that is on the recall. 6 days later the car stops in the middle of the busy 4 lane road, dash light flashing, then flashing lights stop and car is dead, engine and all. called dealer, no answer. called aaa. tow truck towed car to nearest auto repair shop. auto repair shop found a defective alternator and battery damage. repair shop had no problem finding a replacement alternator. replacement battery not available.

Hand free phone doesn't work. i took the car to the dealer and was told that hands free module internally shorted and needs to be replaced. have read a lot of other owners having same problem.

I drove my car in the morning. it seemed like it was going to stall when driving home. parked the car. latter got in my carto start it and it made a odd sound. i looked at the dash and check engine light. lightning bolt. anti lock wer lit. ive not been able to start my car since. 3 months. 2013 chrysler 300 touring. it started reading 2 codes p0850 now its reading 7 codes. never got it to turn over. also my battery is draining.

There is loud clicking coming from the dash board area. temperature control failing. there is also problems with the suspension on the front end of the car. the cv joints are failing and the struts are failing. the rockerarms in the front suspension are also failing. the clicking happens stationary or while in motion and the suspension popping happens when the car is driving.

I started my vehicle and immediately the alternator started smoking. i turned off the car and the alternator kept on smoking and right after that i tried checking for any messages on the dash board but the car was completely dead.

I was stop at the gas station awaiting in line and the safe battery mode light came on and the car haisited and several warnings light came on it blinked orange on the dash. i was given a jumpstart and it didn't start i jumpstarted the car again and it started. i start to drive my car and couldn't control the steering wheel it shaked very hard and my car was stalling the safe battery mode light abs brake light brake fauilare warning lights came on a few other lights can on the dash was flickering the car was jerking and making sounds and very hard to controll i stop the car and got it into park i could feel the extreme heat off the car. when trying to stop the car i only drove a few feet and turn right . i have contact chrysler several times with only to be told just get you car repairs save receipts and we will refund the repairs and you submit your receipt

Received letter about a recall a month or so ago and so far have not heard anything. getting worried i do a lot of driving and want to make sure i am safe.

On 20170731 my 2013 chrysler 300s showed battery saver indicator on ignition. it also emitted a funny smell. i parked the vehicle. aaa came out, and the technician changed the battery. when the car was started. what the technician identified as the alternator starting smoking and glowing. it had been the source of the smell. he had to throw his water on it to put it out. i read an article cnbc.com from 20170714 saying chrysler 300 vehicles had alternator fire risks: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/14/fiat-chrysler-recalls-1-point-33-million-vehicles.html . i never received notification from chrysler of such a recall even though the local service office has had my address and phone number for about a year. after towing to chrysler service in san jose, the service manager in san jose and their online chat help person said that the recall didn't apply to my specific vehicle. additionally, the rep refuted that the announced recall was for an alternator even though the article clearly says "the automaker is also recalling 565,000 vehicles to replace their alternators because of fire risks. the company said hot ambient temperatures could lead to premature diode wear, may result in a burning odor or smoke, could impact the anti-lock braking system or lead to engine stalls." this is exactly what i experienced and the article says it applied to my year make and model of vehicle. i need to make sure chrysler/dodge is following up on this issue because people could die. not only am i on the hook for $1k in costs for something that looks like a manufacturer hazard. i also don't know if related examination/replacement will occur on my vehicle... i need to know that proper precaution is taken. for reference the aaa contracted technician was from great america tow in san jose, ca. i can provide a reference number for his visit if contacted. he may provide more useful observations.

Same problem that occurs with known recall p60 - nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000; chrysler 300 while i was driving my vehicle shut down completely in the middle of a heavily populated city 3 lane road while i was driving at an unknown speed (35-40 mph) since my digital display screen and speedometer malfunctioned. while driving my car cut off completely with the only waring being "battery saver mode" that occurred less than 5 mins prior to my car shutting off. it appears the my alternator failed causing engine stall, thus increasing the risk of crash, since no warning is issued. had it not been for the cop that pulled up behind me, i would have caused an accident on that street in which the police officer would have blamed me for. my car is currently at the dealership with a "alternator" repair. this repair doesn't apply to the current recall from 10/8/2014 because i have a 180 amp alternator with a 3.6l engine, but not a 160 amp alternator with a 3.6l engine.

Was 4 hours from home. was driving on side road but had just left a highway, when it sounded like i had hit something even though there was clearly nothing in the road. lights started flashing, windshield wipers turned on. i no longer had any control of the car. steering wheel locked. couldn't switch gears to park. had to coast to a stop. then car wouldn't turn off and filled with smoke smell. i expected it to catch fire any second. after 5 minutes i was able to approach car and get to turn off (after many attempts). turned out to be the alternator. there is a recall on the 160 volt alternator as this apparently happened often, however mine was a 180 volt alternator so was not covered. same issue as the 160 but not covered. nor was i aware that i had an unsafe alternator in the car i was driving (with my child).

Chrysler issued a recall for all 2011 through 2014 chrysler 300 models due to an internal parts failure on the alternator. on june 9, 2017 my vehicle was stationary when attempting to start the vehicle. i received a reserve power enabled error message and promptly turned the vehicle off. upon restarting the vehicle i heard a whining noise under the hood. i once again turned the vehicle off and opened the hood. i then notice the alternator was on fire with significant smoke. after 30 minutes of severe smoke and flame from the alternator the vehicle had no power at all. i had the vehicle towed to a dealer which replaced the alternator and the battery because the alternator had burned up the battery along with internal component failure on the alternator. i paid the dealer $ 1,274.09 for the repair. the dealer statement indicated internal failure on the alternator. 4 weeks later chrysler announced a recall on the 2011 through 2014 chrysler 300 alternator for "internal component failure could cause alternator total failure and fire". chrysler is refusing to acknowledge my vehicle under this recall stating that the chrysler 300 is the only model impacted using a 160 amp alternator and that my vehicle, a chrysler 300 s model uses a 180 amp alternator and is not covered under this recall. all the while the write up in the recall notice matches the exact write up from the technician who repaired my vehicle at a chrysler dealership 4 weeks prior to the recall announcement. i would like for chrysler to acknowledge the failure in my alternator, which caught on fire, as covered under this recall and refund me my $ 1,274.09 due to vehicle safety issue.

Fca recall t36/nhtsa 17v-435 notified six (6) months ago regarding alternator diode thermal fatigue which may result in alternator failure while driving and causing a risk of crash. also, may develop a resistive short circuit that can result in heat, smoke and/or fire originating within the alternator. as of 01/09/2018, i fortunately have not experienced a problem. the manufacturer states they do not have the parts to resolve the problem. i am of the opinion they have no intention of resolving the problem. if they wait long enough, we will forget about this recall. would the nhtsa please intercede regarding this matter?

Vehicle alerted "battery saver mode" and shut down many of the electrical systems. i immediately stopped driving and called aaa by the time they arrived and attempted to tow, the vehicle would no longer turn on. brought to local dealer. they informed me that the alternator had failed and fried the battery. since i have the 180amp alternator it is not covered under the current recall. from my research it seems that the 180amp alternator are have the exact same issues as the 160amp alternators that are currently being recalled.

I wasn't driving my vehicle on a busy highway. the vehicles electrical system started going crazy. heat turned on, windshield wipers turned on, blinkers going off, radio turned off. power steering, gas and brakes stopped working. was stuck in the middle of a busy highway because of this and lucky i did not get hit because of the spot i was in. i got the car towed and sent to a mechanic. it was the alternator that went bad and it burned the battery so had to get that replaces as well. very dangerous with no warning signs. i have heard this problem is common in these vehicles.

On 22 mar 2017, my 2013 chrysler 300 started smoking from under the hood. i pulled over to see what the problem was and notice the smoke was coming from my altinator. getting in touch with my insurance to set up a tow to take it to a dealership. while i was on the phone the my altinator caught on fire, quickly putting it. continuing with my conversation it started up again for a 2nd time. finally once the tow truck should up, they took it to colorado springs dodge, 7455 austin bluffs pkwy colorado springs, co 80923 719-475-8550. i ask them if they had any recalls for this unusual problem. they told me no, i ended up paying it out of pocket, $936.35 to replace the altinator and battery. i see today that your website has shown me their are problems with the altinator failing. if there's any information you can pass down to me to help me get my money back i would greatly appreciate it. thank you for your time.

I have a 2013 chrysler 300s. while driving at a speed around 45 mph in city driving, car stalled in the middle of an intersection while turning left at front of oncoming traffic. seconds later the car shut off completely leaving me with no or little control over steering. the radio turned off, lights in car started flashing on and off, screens on the dash turned white, and all error lights on dash turned on. burning electrical/rubber smell filled the car. all issues identical to the nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000. i checked my vin to see if my car would be covered but it was not included in the recall. upon further research there has been numerous complaints on exact models of my car that were also not covered. i am very thankful my car was able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic before another vehicle hit us because my kids or myself probably would have been seriously injured or even worst, killed. once car came to a complete stop, i tried restarting the vehicle. the car would try to start but the engine would not even be able to turn over. all lights and switches inside the car were not working properly. lights turning on and off, heater was blowing when we had it set to ac, pushing on the break would turn off all lights in the car, etc. i hope with all the multiple complaint, and potential to cause serious injury, they will consider recalling the additional models of alternators they are clearly having the same defects.

Driving on the highway at appx 30-40 mph and car started smelling like smoke, started making a high pitched humming sound, the abs brake light, the traction control light and the check engine light all came on and the smoke got worse, scared it may have been a fire under my hood. i checked all of the recalls and my car does not fall under any of them although i saw many of the same complaints here on the site. this is very dangerous, especially having children in the car. my car is now at the dealer and was there just last week for another electrical problem. i will continue to check the site since this is obviously a defect from the manufacturer. please contat me with any info as this is very dangerous!

We have had so many complaints with this car and the dealership always says it is our problem. upon driving we will smell something burning and now the ac or heat do not work properly. the gear will jump out of place when driving or trying to park. than you try to put it in drive or reverse and the gear will not move sometimes. no matter if its on the highway or street we have these same problems. i put it happen it january 2017 but these things been happen way before than

The alternator failed and sparked a small fire. caused immediate engine failure stranding me 120 miles from home. vehicle has 50,000 miles on it. this is an unsafe situation. this car is not covered under recall as it has the hemi. maybe it should be covered.

Power window front driver side fail to go up at 29,000 miles

Alternator went out. it's a recall on thousands of car but supposedly not this car. car lost power will i was driving down the street. smelled something burning. had the same exact problem with my 2012 chrysler 300.

Exact same symptoms customers are reporting for nhsta campaign 1v634000. however, my car is not covered because it has a 180 amp alternator and the recall is for 160 amp alternators. i had sudden electrical burning smell inside car and smoke coming from under the hood. dealer replaced alternator under my service contract (out of warrant) so it cost me $100.00 instead of 700-900 dollars. it pretty clear these 180 amp alternators should be included in the recall. chrysler only cares about their bottom line. i want my $100.00 back chrysler.

On 7.4.16 at approximately 9pm, i was at a traffic intersection waiting for the light to turn green. suddenly, my car radio shut down, and on the information screen, a 'battery safe mode' message appeared. then the lights went dim, the info-screen flashed white, and the windshield wipers started moving very slowly. at that point, i tried to put the car in neutral and shut it off, but the shifter was not responsive. then, all the screens went out and the car died. i called my roadside assistance to come to either jump or tow my car. the technician showed up and tried to jump start the vehicle, but to no avail. the car was then towed to a repair shop. the repair shop discovered that the 180 amp alternator was fried (in their words) and the alternator fried the battery as well. the repairs totaled approximately nine hundred dollars! (note) the first new alternator they installed was faulty. for a car under 3 years old, maintained impeccably, this is ridiculous to have an alternator fail in such a short period of time. i filed a complaint with chrysler corp. and discovered that there was a recall on a 160 amp alternator in the chrysler 300. i asked and they advised me that the manufacturer for both the 160 and 180 amp alternators is the same. the recall (october 8, 2014) for the smaller 160 amp alternator is ; nhtsa recall #14v-634, and chrysler recall # p60 respectively. it seems like the problem exists on both alternators. chrysler corp. should take a proactive and not reactive stance at this point.
