My cars radio went out first then ac blowing warm air then all gauges going crazy and had a burning smell of plastic. was on a city street came up to stop sign and car just died. this could of been very dangerous. thank goodness i wasn't on highway. i am told it is my alternator and this should be included with other recalls of alternators. i see they do have recalls on 2012 chrysler 300 for alternator, but my vin # isn't included in the recall, but should be included.
While driving my chrysler 300 shut down no electrical power unable to put the car in park no warning signs and stopped in traffic. unable to use hazard alights as well.
Had alternator and battery replaced today 06/30/2017 due to shortage. noted numerous internet complaints about this for chrysler 300. there is a safety recall that includes 'certain' 2011 thru 2014 chrysler 300's ("p60 / nhtsa 14v-634...fca has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2011 through 2014 model year dodge durango, chrysler 300, dodge challenger, dodge charger and 2012 through 2014 model year jeep grand cherokee vehicles equipped with a 3.6l engine and a 160 amp alternator.") i checked with my local chrysler dealership and the nhtsa vin recall look-up tool and my car has no open recalls. however, i do not find it a coincidence that my car has this problem if other chrysler 300's are having the problem enough to generate a recall. i had the battery and alternator replaced at a local repair company for $962 and some change. as the safety recall warns and denotes the possibility of ... "the driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, which can result in vehicle shutdown while driving" ... this is exactly what happened to me at an intersection in heavy traffic on 06/29/17. i think my vin should be included in the safety recall and chrysler should be responsible for the repairs. thank you for your time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 300. while driving unknown speeds, the instrument cluster flashed and there was an abnormal burning odor. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the contact purchased the part and replaced the alternator; however, the vehicle was still inoperable. the contact visited a local dealer (2639 lakeside dr, lynchburg, va 24501) and was informed that the parts were not available. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: 32635882. the manufacturer advised the contact to tow the vehicle to a local dealer at her expense. no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was unknown.
Driving at night. noticed car was" whining" and emitting burnt plastic odor. lights dimmed. information (evic) screen reported "battery saver mode". checked car upon arriving home. burnt odor from location of alternator.
My battery light came on when i was leaving the grocery store. about a mile away i stopped at stoplight at a busy intersection on the highway and dash lights started coming on and off, radio and ac coming on and off and then car dies and will not restart. after 5 or 10 minutes get it restarted and will barely move. luckily there was an auto parts store just around the corner. when i pull in the parking lot, car will not shift out of drive, will not shut off, wind shield wipers come on and won't go off, gauges all going crazy and have to use emergency brake so my car won't run through the front of the store while i go into store to get help. the guy hooks up to diagnostic device and it gives a read error. (hooks up to another car and no error). finally get car to shut off after about 20 minutes. he tests battery and comes back low. new $200 battery and starts up fine, everything working again. pull out of parking lot and start smelling something burning, smoke coming through vents, weird sound. pull over and same things happen - gauges going crazy, wipers on, won't shift out of drive, won't turn off. get out of car and take key out with me and wipers come on. have to take out fuse to get them to go off. lights come on. have to disconnect battery to get them off - all of this when the key is not even in the car! $60 to have car towed to shop and $600 to have alternator replaced. why is the 180 amp alternator not part of the p60 recall when it is having the same exact issues as the 160 amp alternator that was recalled??? i keep seeing others saying they keep having the alternator go out again even after they replace it. i have had this car for 5 years and never and problems with it other than general maintenance stuff. i don't not feel safe driving it any longer.

Battery and alternator went completely out at 78500 miles with no warning signs at all. drove to work and had no lights to indicate anything was failing in the car when i went to go home at 3am. i couldn't get into the car because battery was dead. had to lay out of pocket for a new battery and alternator plus labor when i had just purchased the car 3 months ago.

My 2012 chrysler 300 3.6l v6 went in battery save mode as i was driving then shut off. it would not start so i boost it off and was able to get it started. i drove a circle around the apartment complex and the car begin to smoke. the 180amp alternator was smoking and burning up. i changed the alternator and replaced the battery. now the car cranks and stay running but will not drive. no dash lights are working and i can not put it into gear. if i turn the wheel to the right or left completely then the a/c and dash lights n radio work but the car still will not go into my desired gear. i have lost a lot of time and money because of this issue and nowhere online is there answers for this problem.
Limited edition 75th anniversary mopar. continually blows the 25 amp fuse for the acc, anti-sway, & and systems. alternator has caught fire on on one occassion. chrysler either doesn't care or does not possess the expertise to resolve the problem. battery & alternator replaced after fire. 4091 miles later i am experiencing the same blown fuse problem. chrysler "independant" investigator from eaa (mike sobiecki) filed report to chrysler a few weeks ago. no call from chrysler to me regarding this issue (there is a chrysler case number on this). i need help. i work out of state and i-ve already broke down during interstate travel on i-10.
While driving with my children, the cars warning lights lit up and alarms started beeping. the service engine light came on as well as the fcw off message, i smelled smoke and heard a whiring sound. after pulling in my driveway, i popped open the hood and found nothing out of the ordinary. 20 minutes later i started up the car and started driving, again without any issue. when coming back home (4 mile round trip), i heard a whiring sound again, smelled smoke and lights and alarms again. fortunately, i was pulling into the driveway. at this point, i could see smoke coming from under the hood. i popped the hood and saw smoke billowing from the area of the alternator. after the smoke stopped i attempted to start the car to move it and roll up windows but could not, the car had no power. after researching the issue, i was glad to see that there was a recall on the alternator for my car. however, i was disappointed to learn that my vin was not included in the recall. after further research, i determined that the recall was only for the 160 amp alternator, my car has the 180 amp. this alternator failed in the exact same way as the 160 amp alternators. i was very lucky that this happened while turning into my driveway and not a busy intersection. since this was not part of the recall, i am now out $1000. i have read similar stories of the exact same issue with the 180 amp alternators. this is a safety issue, please help.
I have a 2012 chrysler 300 limited with a 3.6l v6 and 180 amp alternator. failure occurred at 88000. show very similar symptoms for recall number 14v634000 (low power mode, battery light, complete electrical system failure) was told by chrysler that they would not cover it since the recall was for the 160 amp alternator. i had to replace out of pocket with total repair cost at 1200.
Alternator and battery compliant - on wednesday, may 26 while driving on a city street i noticed that my car had a burning odor and a whining noise coming from the engine. after driving approximately 7 miles i noticed the battery saver mode light came on. at that point, i drove another approximate 2 miles before parking my car in a parking lot. after returning to my car an hour later my car started but the radio did not come on. i attempted to drive my car to the dealership but after approximate 0.2 miles it shut off completely without warning. after doing research this appears to be the same problem as the 3.6l chrysler 300 had a recall on. my car is a 5.7l hemi 300s. it has been a death trap from one day and at this point i'm afraid to drive it because of the alternator issue.
tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 300. the contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the battery save mode illuminated and the brake light began to flash while the engine stalled. the vehicle was merged to a shoulder lane. the vehicle was unable to restart. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired as of yet. the manufacturer was called and confirmed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign: 14v634000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

The car lost power and stalled. crash caused buy faulty altenator and lead positive power wire
Experienced total electrical failure after replacing alternator and battery- electrical failure affects everything- unsafe to drive
The car would nor go into any gear,(d, r,n) it kept popping into park and after it set for an hour, it shifted into gear and i was able to drive it home.
On march 12, 2017 i was driving chrysler 2012 300 vehicle on a busy highway, the vehicle then went into battery power save mode, without warning the vehicle stalled and the breaks locked on me, the car did not let me stop and i was on a busy street route 30 in merrillville, in with my 2 year old daughter in the back seat, the vehicle rolled at approximately 20 mph for 15 feet and made an abrupt stop, after wards i was unable to turn on vehicle and was left stranded on busy street, luckily their were no cars in front of me at the time or it could of been worse, after doing research i called chrysler and asked if this could of been due to faulty alternator and mentioned recall p61 and was told the recall was for a 160 amp and mine was 180 amp, the cause of this situation was clearly due to a recall on a recall of a different chrysler model and should be looked into immediately, i have always been a customer of chrysler and my reasoning behind buying chrysler is because of their wonderful safety features, and feeling secure while driving my 2 young children,it is unfair and after this i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle . their needs to be immediate action taken to avoid injury or possible death.
While driving on a busy street my chrysler 300 stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to a independent dealer to be diagnosed.the dealer informed me that the alternator failed plus the battery was damaged.vehicle was repaired .the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, the vehicle was not included in nhtsa recall campaign number#14v634000{electrical system}the failure mileage 77,000.some recall sites say the 2012 chrysler 300 vehicles were from 2011 -2014 but,the manufacturer say my vehicle was not on the list.
Car had no issues. was driving and all of a sudden out of no where everything in car was flickering on and off. speedometer was going up and down and couldn't steer car. the smell was like something was on fire. thought it was battery (even though there was no issues before) bought a new battery and the burning and smoke was worse. couldn't even drive it home. this is a common problem w this vehicle yet this vin isn't included in the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 300. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was pushed to the contact's residence and later towed to the dealer. it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. in addition, while driving various speeds, the check engine indicator illuminated and there was a clunking noise coming from the front driver side seat. when depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the gear shifter failed to shift into park. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the valve body of the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number:14v634000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
The battery saver mode indicator light came on in my chrysler 300 while my wife was driving on a city street and then the engine started smoking. she had only been driving the car for about 15 minutes. she was able to pull into a parking lot and then the car completely shut down. the car continued smoking for at least 15 minutes. this is terrible and dangerous!! the dealer says the alternator and battery need to replaced. there is a recall on the chrysler 160 alternator for this problem. this car has a 180 alternator and chrysler has not recalled it even though it is the same problem! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 300. the contact stated that someone hacked into the vehicle's computer system. while driving, the vehicle decelerated abruptly numerous times. also, the battery failed numerous times and could not be charged. the contact thought that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery be replaced. the battery was replaced a total of three times, but the failures persisted. the contact disconnected the battery and brought it inside his home in order to start the vehicle the following day. however, the contact stated that the hackers were currently disabling the battery system. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 25,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 300. while driving 20 mph, the battery safe mode warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that there was an abnormal odor coming from the front of the vehicle. the contact turned off the vehicle and was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the battery and alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,642.
First sign was it kept saying low power mode activated. i took it in to dealership but they said everything was fine. a month later i was driving on the highway and everything electrical turned off (steering, abs, battery, etc.) and the car started smoking heavily. my car stalled out in the middle of the highway and i had to push it to the side of the road. very very scary to lose all control of your car all of a sudden when driving at high speeds. i pulled over and got car towed away only to find out that the alternator was messed up causing the battery and serpentine belt to go out as well. i asked if my 300 was covered part of the faulty alternators but apparently my vin doesn't cover the recall so here i am hoping to cause awareness so i can get my $1500 bill covered especially since the car only has 80,000 miles on it. 2012 chrysler/dodge/jeep are known to have faulty alternators but my vin is not part of the "bad batch" so please expand this recall.
On 12/22/16, i used my car for work and later christmas shopping with no problem. at 9:00 pm, my husband, granddaughter and i were on the freeway traveling about 60-65 mph when the battery save mode light came on. i smelled smoke so my husband merged over to the far right, still traveling about 50-55 mph. the car began to shut down, first the radio, then inside panel lights, headlights, airbag warning lights, brake lights, windshield wipers up, and car slammed into park while moving. felt like we were rear ended. very scary. luckily, we were able to coast downhill off the side of the freeway, barely making it off, with the backend of the car in jeopardy of being hit. the three of us were stranded there on the side of the road until 1:30 am, in a not so lit area, until aaa arrived. none of us knew how to put the car in neutral so it had to be forced on and off the flat bed. the next day, i notified chrysler and found out there was a recall on the alternator for this same make, model and year. my care # is 30764006. however, i was told that my car was not covered because it had a 180 amp alternator instead of 160 amp. i was told by [xxx] to have my car towed to motor village la for an official diagnosis and that she (chrysler) would try to help me get it approved to be fixed under the recall. motor village quoted me $1200 to fix and denied the recall claim. my family and i almost lost our lives that evening, and i wasted time with chrysler recall. i had to get the car towed elsewhere because i could not afford $1200 for repair. furthermore, when i called back, i was not able to speak with [xxx] and of course, the story had changed. they no longer offered help, only apologies. as a result, i lost time off work and was without a car for a week. i am requesting reimbursement for my $130.00 diagnostic charge paid to motor village. thank you. I was on my way home from the grocery store with my son, i was stopped at a red light when the light turned green i pressed on the gas to go and the car would not move the abs light came on. the end car finally started to move slowly, then all the lights started to flash and everything went black, no power! i tried to get as close as possible to home, at that point i had no power steering no nothing and all the while the dashboard kept flickering and it said service transmission, malfunction indicator was lit up. this all happened in rush hour traffic. smh i was going about 25mph and miles on vehicle was 55,900
As i was driving on a city street, my alternator shut down causing everything electrical to stop functioning. i lost control of the vehicle and the brakes were not responding as well. the car kept rolling until i hit a curb.
Since purchasing this vehicle on memorial day weekend at chrysler, little falls nj of 2014, i have had nothing but issues. from electrical problems, to the airbag issues, to later spending over 1300 in repairing the alternator. within the 1st few days of the purchase the air bag light came on in which i immediately brought the car in for repair and the mechanic stated that there were no issues found. unfortunately, it was too late to cancel the purchase, per flo i had signed the contract and cannot cancel the deal. after becoming very frustrated with the continuous issues with the vehicle and lack of customer service, i contacted corporate chrysler, in which caitlin contacted me and scheduled an appointment with rt1 chrysler in lawrenceville nj around 7/2015, in which they stated that the air bag had spliced wires. a few days from taking the vehicle home the air bag light came back on. i contacted caitlin to report that the issue still exist in which she never called me back. i called her for several months. i then took the vehicle to the chrysler in cherry hill and the one in lumberton, all stated no issues found, even after bringing it in when the alternator went on it. i also brought it in to the chrysler in lumberton since the car had lost power/engine knocking and they stated nothing was wrong until i brought it back to cherry hill chrysler and they found that it was engine problems. corporate chrysler and all these dealers have continued claiming that they cannot find any airbag issues or when they claim they find something, it has been repaired but yet the problem still exist. bottom line, all these dealers and corporate chrysler have continued putting my life, my families life and others in danger. i fear for my life and my families. this car is nothing but a luxury lemon and corporate chrysler needs to replace the vehicle since they cannot fix it.

This is the 2nd time i am sending a complaint about the 2012 chrysler 300's and the safety issues associated. my vehicle has some sort of electrical issue. this electrical issue used to sporadically affect my vehicle in various way, however lately the issues have become more frequent and aggressive. the frequent and aggressive activity are as follows: sometimes my bluetooth will not connect so i would turn off and restart the vehicle and the bluetooth would immediately connect. sometimes the power seats will not heat. i would pull over turn off the car and restart the vehicle and it would start heating up. sometimes the back-up camera flickers and has a severely distorted image. sometime the image of the camera is perfectly crystal clear. the main concern is my power steering is electric and i do not have a power steering pump. when i am driving and making a turn out of no where the steering gets really tight and i almost have to force the car to turn. when i park the car and let it sit for a while then the steering is fine again. this is a major safety issue. i have had the vehicle serviced and everyone says that the battery alternator and starter are all perfect. they cannot find anything wrong. clearly there is something wrong with my vehicle. this has been happening since 2013. the attached images show the backup camera flickering and distorted images. exactly 2 minutes later i restarted the vehicle and the images were perfect. i also have videos to share if needed.

Was driving at about 70 mph when the battery saver mode light came on. this was the first time.i had seen this light. got home and shut the car off and restarted it few hours later and light went away. began to drive again and light came on again while driving about 45mph on a busy street. the car began to shut the lights off and the windshield wipers began to turn on and i lost the ability to steer the car. i had to muscle the steering wheel to the around and head home with no headlights at night!!! i made it home but the car would not shut off it was stuck idling. the car started to over heat and began emptying coolant everywhere . the car overheated and shut off. i drive 25 miles to work everyday and take my kids to school via freeway. if this had happened on the free way myself and my kids could have been seriously hurt or killed. i read the fault codes and i got a bad alternator code.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 300. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to decrease in speed while the accelerator pedal was depressed. in addition, the steering wheel seized, the vehicle stalled, and numerous warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Since 2013 i have been experiencing electrical issues with my car. first in 2013 it was very sporadic. the bluetooth and radio would not turn on approximately once every 2 to 4 months so i would turn off the car and restart it and it would connect. this year in january 2016 the fan was not blowing and there was not heat in the vehicle. i turn the car of and restarted it and the fan began to blow immediately. last week my steering wheel felt like it was not going to complete my left turn and got really tight. yesterday as i was driving my accelerator and brake began to feel very tight as if they were both getting stiff and the suspension started getting very tight then as i was backing into a parking space my backup camera started flickering like poltergeist. i took the vehicle to check it i needed a battery or a new alternator and they said nope. my battery, my alternator and started are all good. i have been two different places and they told me that i have an electrical issue that has just gone bad over time. i tried to have someone look into it in 2013, but anytime someone held onto the vehicle nothing happened. i just spoke to another mechanic and they said i may need a new pcm. i am not sure what the problem is but would like to get to the bottom of it.
