Problems with 2013 Chrysler 200 ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Chrysler 200 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 62 861 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Chrysler 200

The alternator keeps going out on my car. it's a 2013 chrysler 200 lx. i put 3 alternators in less than 5 months! a new battery as well! no one seems to know what's the problem. it has to be a re call. i see a lot of owners reporting things like this. please help!

My vehicle stalls when i slow down (1-5mph) or stop. when i'm idle the engine feels like it has no power and sometimes it feels as if it misfires. it stalls once a day. most common moments when it stalls is when i stop going up a hill.

While driving slower, decelerating, or beginning to accelerate from a stop, the brakes and steering lock up, and then the car stalls/shuts down. this has happened over 5 times in the past 2 weeks. prior to that, it would happen about once a week for about two months. it has occurred right before having to merge from a lane of heavy traffic (bumper-to-bumper) onto a busy highway, putting me in a dangerous position. luckily, after turning the ignition off and then on again, everything works fine...until it doesn't again.

Driving over 60 or 70'miles per hour on the highway and accelerating too fast (stepping on the gas pedal too much) i.e. flooring it. the engine will shut down and will not start again for awhile. once the vehicle starts up then it works fine. rarely do i need to accelerate that much going that fast but it's happened more than once and the mechanic i went too said his son had the same problem with the same make and model vehicle.

The engine keeps stalling while driving without warning. it is unable to restart for about 30 minutes, then will start up normally as if nothing has happened. i have taken it to chrysler service several times to be told that nothing shows up on the diagnostic and they cannot determine the issue to this very dangerous problem. the problem happens while the car is in motion and can happen anytime regardless of speed, location, or what the car is doing. it happens repeatedly, approximately every 3 weeks.

After a few months of having dtc come up for evap and misfire then disappear just a quick as it came up, my vehicle has recently began stalling out while driving, specifically while decelerating or idling. the battery was replaced 2 years ago and tests good every time, as does the alternator, starter, wires, connectors and sensors. nobody can find any dtc on the obdii or anything else. it's easy to replicate but impossible to decide why. i've talked to the dealership about possible recalls from 2012 concerning the pcm as well as chatted with a few people on the chrysler website and nobody wants to help. this is a very serious situation, as i can prove with video from my dash cam and back up cam. the people on the chrysler website were very rude, and the dealership was not willing to stand behind the product either without charging $300 just to diagnose. it's says right on the website "what is a safety recall? safety recalls include any problem encountered with an fca us product related to the safe operation of the vehicle or the safety of the occupants. fca us llc will correct the problem, at no charge, even if the vehicle is out of warranty and you are not the original owner." as well as "recall faqs fca us regards the safety and security of our customers and their families as paramount. please see our list of faqs below to learn more about recalls and the precautions we take to keep you safe. if you don't see your concern listed, chat with usand one of our representatives will help answer any questions you may have." the recall i refer to is the tech bulletin 18-102-16a with the exact same symptoms "-2-

Car stalling while driving called recall said that my car doesn't go but it's losted under my recall

Engine stall ever time i drive my car engine will stall it has happen to me 3 times in the highway.

My engine dies out while i am driving then after sitting for about 5 mins it starts back up. it's been checked by mechanics but none knows why this is happening. i am afraid i will have an accident, because when it happens it's hard to steer out of traffic. my car is a 2013 200 but i purchased it in 2015

On four separate occasions my 2013 chrysler 200 shut off on me while driving. it appeared as if the engine was not getting any gas. when i tried to start the vehicle it sounded like it wanted to start but no gas was getting to the engine. i. had the vehicle towed to the shop put my vehicle on the computer and no issues was revealed. each time that it shut off i had a full tank of gas to 3/4 of gas. i had to wait 45-60 minutes before the car would start again. on 3oct2019 i was driving home from work traveling 65 mph when the vehicle shut down on me on the interstate. read comments online about this issue from multiple people

Wheels on car all peeled off and looks awful.the drivers inside handle peeling and wife cut hand on it .when you press the gas it loses power and stutters have had trouble with struts and brakes ever since we have owned car we purchased it off show room floor in grayson ky t

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chrysler 200. while driving, the vehicle lost power. the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard, but there was no acceleration. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the contact was referred to auffenberg chrysler dodge jeep ram (176 auto ct, o'fallon, il 62269, (618) 622-4546) where it was diagnosed that the battery was malfunctioning and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. the dealer further stated that there was possible electrical failure due to an improper jump start. the contact believed the dealer caused the electrical failure. the contact stated that the throttle body failure recurred even though the dealer did not think a failure existed. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they want to charge the contact for the repair. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 110,000.

Vehicle was stationary. went to turn on vehicle and the engine light starts flashing. it has never done that before and the vehicle is only used to driving back and forth to work. got it checked out and found out the catalytic converter has gone bad and is very clogged.

4 different times, the car has just lost power while driving. i have had it to my mechanic 4 times and they cannot find an issue. this last time i was driving on the highway going 65mph and it just lost all power. i had to be pushed off the highway. this could have caused an accident. an hour later it started up and i drove it straight to my mechanic. it has happened 4 times in the last year.

I was driving in the middle of the street when the car just shut off completely. the car stall i had to call the tow truck and the police for help because i couldn't even put my emergency lights on. i waited for 2 hours and suddenly the car went back on. the car like if nothing ever happened. it was scary luck that i wasn't on the freeway with my children at that time.

Throttle body warning light went on, car hesitating when accelerating. surging upon initial start in the morning.

The connector for the radiator hose from the fluid reservoir to the radiator broke, leaking radiator fluid on the ground. the connector was made of plastic. had to have it towed to a repair shop, where the hose was replaced, the system flushed, pressure checked, and refilled with fluid. cost us $546 in parts and labor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chrysler 200. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle seized and the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact made approximately four attempts before the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to suburban chrysler dodge jeep ram of farmington hills (38123 w. 10 mile rd, farmington hills, mi 48335, (248) 476-7900) where it was diagnosed that the oil pressure pump failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 107,000.

Vehicle has stalled on multiple occasions both in motion and while parked. the stall occurs either when the a/c is activated and turned off.

No check engine light, pressing on brake pedal while at a stop sign or red light, automobile stalls. put it in park and restart, rpm range varies. use brakes too much rpm increases need to stop vehicle and restart to get better rpm and dashboard blinks for the mileage

Car shut off while driving 70 mph on highway, car will no longer start engine completely locked.

My car keeps going dead for no reason, then starts up after five minutes.

My car will stall while driving. steering wheel will lock. i have to put it to a complete stop to restart. sometimes it starts right away. most times i have to wait a few minutes

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the fuel tanking was leaking. the contact smelled fumes and the engine stalled and lost power while driving. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000.

My car only has 73,000 miles on it. i take excellent care of it. last week i the engine started to just turn off while at a stop. no warnings, no indicators that something was wrong. the car will turn back on when i put it in park and restart engine by turning the key. i have recently seen online that this has been an issue with a lot of 200's. i feel chrysler has sold a lot of people lemons. more importantly i'm concerned for my safety, the safety of my family, and safety of other i share the road with.

Takata recall last time i was driving on the freeway going 70 miles per hour and the vehicle suddenly lost power with a semi truck right behind me and i had to swerve off of the road to avoid being hit and nearly causing an accident i do not feel safe in this vehicle and i'm in fear for my life

2013 chrysler 200 3.6l v-6 80,000 miles. during the 2018 winter in noticed my car was not coming up to running temperature and no t getting good heat out of the vents on drivers and passenger vents. i changed the thermostat and noticed a lot of grit and what looks like dirt in the antifreeze, but now the car comes up to running temperature and now i get good heat out of driver side vent but not out of the passenger side vent. i have been doing some reading on chrysler 200 forums and i see a lot of complaints of the same problems i am having and saying the cause in is that the heater core is plugged and is about $900.00 to $1200.00 to fix. is chrysler going to cover the cost of the repairs? the cause of the heater core being plugged is when to blocks were being pored and machined leaving sand and other debris in the blocks because they were not cleaned properly.

The engine completely shuts off without warning when at an idle or slowing down to make a stop. it has done this now about 12 times within the last month. my car just made it to 53,000 miles and has always had regular oil changes and maintenance. so far, i have been able to put it in park and restart. i was taking my daughter to school yesterday and it stalled in the middle of the road and the engine died. the first time that it ever happened i put the car in reverse to back out of my driveway and it died three different times. no warnings or lights. i have taken it to a mechanic shop and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. they ran a diagnostic test and...nothing. the engine has died and stalled 3 times since being in the shop.

My chrysler 200 2013 touring stalled on me while coming to a stop at a stop sign i was stuck in a intersection for almost an hour and had to direct traffic around me so i wouldn't get hit. this is not the first time this has happened. this is the 5th time my car has stalled on me and i've only had it for 2 months, stalled twice on busy intersections i could have died. it stalled on me while i was going 55 mph and the lanes were so tight i almost couldn't get to the side of the road without getting hit and when i finally did the lanes were so close that i couldn't park on the side of the road for safety without being terrified someone going to come down the hill and not see me and hit me. also i was just doing a beach cruise one time and it stalled on me i had to park and wait like a hour and 30 minutes for help. another time i was doing a right turn onto my house and the engine just shut off so i had to make a wide right turn with barely any steering power could've been a major accident. the car just loses it power and shuts off without any warning. i've gotten a diagnostics and nothing showed wrong with the car, but there is something wrong. i've seen many of the same problems people are having online and the problem is not getting fixed at all. i'm seeing people replace fuel pumps, starters, batteries, alternators and no fix for the stalling just wasting money. thousands of people online on sites are struggling with this car. people cars are stalling on them and are almost getting them killed. chrysler is not doing anything to help these people, no recalls on the car and people are taking their cars to the dealership and wasting money because the problem still occurs even after the dealership. really sad there needs to be something done with these cars my life is in danger and i'm only 19 years. the chrysler 200 needs to be recalled very dangerous car

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chrysler 200. while driving approximately 60 mph, smoke emitted from underneath the hood. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and the engine caught fire. the fire department extinguished the fire. the vehicle was damaged and towed to an impound. a fire report was not filed and there were no injuries. the contact called us auto sales inc at 313-952-2920 (located at 27131 plymouth rd, redford charter twp, mi 48239) and was advised to file a complaint. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Accelerator got stuck and almost drove customer into a tree. at 43k miles they replaced the transmission.

Approximately 2 months after purchasing my 2013 chrysler 200 ltd (6-cyl.; mileage approx. 79k), the car began randomly losing power and stalling out while i was driving. when this occurred, i only had a few seconds to slowly coast to the side of the road to get off the highway. the car would not restart, and i had to call a wrecker. this has now happened 5 times. all of my trips were local when the engine stalls occurred, and each stall came without any warning while i was simply cruising down a highway or a city street, and not traveling up or down any significant slopes. when the car engine died, the dashboard indicators all illuminated while the engine was dying. i have had chrysler service respond to the scene immediately to get diagnostics, and the car is not throwing out any diagnostic codes. when the engine dies, it can be restarted after the car sits for awhile... maybe a few hours. the pcm (computer) was replaced and all software patches have been installed, but that didn't fix the problem. the car has been in the chrysler dealership repair shop over a month now, while they wait hopefully for a technical wizard to impart exploratory repair magic over their star network. i sure would like to have my car back....working. i was fortunate to have been able to get my car off the road on the occasions that it died. i could have been in a very dangerous situation otherwise. it is noted that nhtsa closed their investigation of this problem with the chrysler 200, shortly after a software patch was released in sept. 2012.

I have owned this car for a while now. i live in a place that is below 40 degrees more often than it is above 40 degrees. the issue this car and many others are plagued with is a heater core and radiator that are plugged due to a manufacturing error from chrysler directly. a plugged heater core and radiator not only is unsafe; it is unethical business practice. when my car does not properly heat, i cannot defrost my windshield barring my visibility and creating a massive safety risk for myself and fellow motorists. not only does my heat not work properly, my car will overheat on certain occasions. to an inexperienced car owner the risk of destroying their engine is incredibly high. the repair can run as high as 1500 dollars at the dealership. i should not have to pay for an error that is not my or a shops oversight, and an incredibly dangerous oversight at that.

I was driving when all of a sudden a hot oil light came on my 2013 chrysler 200, 2.4l. i then pulled off to the side of the road and proceeded to turn the car off. when i tried starting it again got oil light was on. ended up getting a tow back to my house and went out there a few hours later and cranked it up and the engine shakes bad. *dsy

The vehicle has stalled multiple times when coming to a stop, there are no codes stored and there is no check engine lamp when this occurs. it often stumbles when coming to a stop like it is going to stall but recovers. i am a career automotive technician for over 25 years, triple ase master tech i have performed a throttle body cleaning and checked all the basics, but there is no indication of any other issues with the vehicle.

My car starts right up but when i come to a stop the car dies but starts right back up. as i am coming to a stop it jerks forward like someone is pressing in the throttle. when i reverse it dies as well but starts up. if i take my foot off of the brake and guide it forward the rpm goes up then down and i can keep it at an idle. this is every time i drive the car and its getting worse. when i drive it jerks as well. almost like it is having a hard time shifting.

My engine has cut off numerous times while turning as i was driving. when i try to restart the engine turns over but won't stay running. i have to let car sit for about 10 minutes then try again & it starts.

I have a 2013 chrysler 200 with the 'pentastar tick'. a known problem to be found in the 2011 to 2013 dodge, jeep, and chrysler. this issue comes from the cylinder head or in my case the camshaft rockers and lifters. these are known issues with the pentastar engine, to the point it has received the name the 'pentastar tick'. a 150,000 mile warranty has been extended toward the cylinder, but as for the camshaft no extended warranty has been authorized. since less consumers are affected by or report the camshaft issue, fiat chrysler auto feels it is not liable. a problem they know exist but if it appears at the end of the 5 years/100,000 mile warranty and it does not include any life threatening issue for the car owner, they are not responsible for the pentastar engine.

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 chrysler 200. while driving on the highway at an unknown speed, the contact was altered by another motorist that flames were present underneath her vehicle. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the contact exited the vehicle as tall flames erupted underneath the engine. the fire department was called and extinguished the fire. a police and a fire report were not filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was destroyed and the insurance company had the vehicle towed to a tow yard. a dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v043000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was awaiting a call back to determine if they could investigate the cause of the fire. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

My vehicle will cut off/stall while driving, losing speed control. this has happened more than i can count. on residential street, main highways, and freeways while doing speeds up to 70mph. if i am able to pull over to safety i would attempt to start the vehicle and it would crank but wouldn't turn over. after 2hrs the vehicle would start. i've taken it into several dealerships to be diagnosed and they wouldn't be able to duplicate the issue. the dealership hooked up a tracker and said it was one thing and fixed it and the problem is still happening. first incident was mothers day may 2017

12/22/2017 my front end started bouncing and shaking, on the freeway it got really bad i was scared and my grandsons got very upset and thought we we going to crash. i thought the engine would fall out the bottom, or my left front tire was going to fall off, also the brake lite comes on sometimes every 15 mins., now today spent all day trying to talk to any chrysler service person to call me back ! no one did! my car died last night no crank no start im stuck in sacramento at my daughters, i was to work 3:30 to midnight to night 01/15/2018 , really hope i don't lose my job ! went on youtube everyone had the same problem and cant fix...
