On average, the 2012 Chrysler 200 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 59 839 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Chrysler 200

Heat is not coming out of right side vents, blowing cold air. took to dealer and they found an issue with the heater core and it needs to be replaced. there's a build up of brown sludge in the cooling system. car has 68000 miles on it. this will be the second replacement. last one was replaced at 37,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 35 mph the steering wheel ceased and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after five minutes. while driving and making a left turn the vehicle stalled again. while attempting to start vehicle there was abnormal ticking noise detected. the abs and traction control warning lights were illuminated. additionally, the speedometer was inoperable. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 114,000.

I only have heat on the drivers side of the car. we just hit our 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty. had the car in the shop twice with coolant smells. mechanics never found a problem. everywhere i read there are tons of complaints about this issue. this is a $1000.00 repair! a flush is $150-170. we have already done this. i'm ready to trade it in but i do love my car. not sure about how i feel about chrysler knowing about a issue and not offering assistance with the repair. maybe they better send out a massive rebate to old owners in hopes of them staying a customer.

My chrysler 200 was purchased about two months ago since i purchased it from florida and i reside in alabama i was told by the local dealership in mobile that they could not diagnose or repair it because they have no history. my car is randomly stalling and loosing all power to engine when attempting to stop or slow down there is no codes on dashboard. pcm was replaced still same issue. it is very likely this will cause an accident especially because there is no warning. it cut off tonight on my way home from work while i was driving at 35mph. this is dangerous

So two weeks back on on sept. 19 my car broke down... which i don't get because dealership said due too improper lubrication in the engine, always changed my oil and filter and coolant or anything needs to be replaced at said mileage. also in told me cylinder 4 by dealership was my problem till it blown always kept oil same and heard about it never tried to drive it till i found out why i have this problem... was told s.o.l !!! so now have no car to get my kid or work walk and ask for rides and still making payments for this only have 109,614 miles on for something that should of happened at 200,000 miles or more i take care of my car thing was my joy for work or my kid so please help me understand why....

While driving i started to coast to take sharp turn and engine died, no power steering and no brakes. couldn't turn and ran off the side of the road. this is a major issue.

I have a 2012 chrysler 200 that stalls randomly. i have taken it in for service and diagnostic services and no results. the system has absolutely no codes stored in the system. it happens randomly while the vehicle is stationary and in motion. i have seen a lot of complaints with the same thing happening to people. it has left me in extremely dangerous situations many times. i do not feel comfortable or safe driving this car. this needs to be investigated as i have learned it has been affecting years from 2011 to 2016

Takata recall the tipm has malfunctioned car will not function of start

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. when the vehicle was started, the check engine indicator illuminated and remained lit. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who dianosed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 196,000.

My chrysler 200 died while driving--still had power, but engine died. the first time,6/8/19, we thought it was a cam sensor-that was the code it threw at the mechanic. we replaced it. then the battery light came on. the battery was good, but the alternator wasn't-so we replaced the alternator. drove it for 2 days & it died again, 6/16/19. took it back & the same cam sensor code is popping up but sensor is still good. got it back, drove it another 2 days & it died again, 6/22/19. towed it back to shop & mechanic cannot duplicate the problem after a week. have it back 1 day & car dies again, 6/29/19. several complaints here mention the car engine dying for no reason, but still have power. we've been lucky-we haven't been on a highway when it's died. each time, we've been driving around the city & making a turn & the traffic flow has been slow. sometimes we've been at a complete stop-others we have not. being that this seems to be a repetitive complaint, why hasn't a recall been issued on the vehicle??

While driving my vehicle back the office from my lunch break, i made a right hand turn onto the main road and began to accelerate the vehicle with more gas. at about 35mph the car engine completely shut off and i had to coast to the side of the road with no power steering. i had to wait approximately 20 mins until my car would restart again. i was able to get back on the road until after another few hundred yards of driving the car stalled again completely. i was then forced to call a tow truck to have it taken to an auto shop.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving various speeds and shifting gears, the vehicle shut off without warning. when the vehicle was shut off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to steve landers chrysler dodge jeep ram (401 colonel glenn plaza loop, little rock, ar 72210, (501) 404-9103) where it was diagnosed and an unknown part was repaired. the diagnosis and repair specifics were not disclosed. the failure recurred after the repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 105,000. the vin was unknown.

2 complaints/concerns: 1) this affects the 2012 chrysler 200 i purchased used with 62,500 miles. it's been well documented all over the internet and at chrysler dealerships how the 2012 chrysler 200 was part of a group of vehicles with faulty antifreeze from the factory. this antifreeze breaks down and will clog the heater core, radiator, and transmission oil cooler. the recommended repair, from chrysler, is to replace all of these listed parts at a cost of about $2500.00. chrysler knows about this problem, but refuses to do anything about it. my car is at a chrysler dealership as we speak having these repairs made. 2) this one i have not experienced, but i also see a large number of reports where the pentastar v6 equipped in a number of these vehicles will suddenly shut off. many of these cases are when the cars are in motion. this is a serious safety concern. issue seems to be centered around a pcm, but there is no recall of any kind on this.

Passenger side heater stopped working. vehicle turns off while in drive and moving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the radio shorted out several times and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was unable to restart and was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was then towed to atlanta west chrysler dodge jeep ram (1251 thornton rd, lithia springs, ga 30122, (770) 942-1102) where it was diagnosed that the motor failed to function, and the engine assembly and battery needed to be replaced. the contact was uncertain if the failure was related to manufacturer recall campaign number: l33. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine their guidelines for the repair. the approximate failure mileage was 93,800. .*bf *tr

I purchased a new 2012 chrysler 200. in dec-2015 at 46,000 miles the heater quit working correctly. the dealership said the heater core was clogged and needed to be replaced for about $1200. even though the car was passed its 36,000 mile warranty chrysler paid for the repair. i believe because they knew they had sold a bad product. 3 years later (dec-2018) at 76,000 miles the same problem occurred. the dealership is now saying the whole coolant system (heater core, radiator, hoses, thermostats and engine flush) needs to be replaced at a cost of $3600. maintenance schedule says coolant good for 5 years and 100,000 miles. first failure at 3 years and 46,000 miles. second failure at 3 years and 30,000 miles. chrysler refuses to accept responsibility or help with repairs.

Appears to be a common issue in 2012 which chrysler has known about. no heat/ defrost on passenger side apparently caused by engine block manufacturing process fluids mixing with antifreeze causing a blockage in heater core. if they knew, then there should have been a recall, instead of profiting on the repairs needed to correct.

The car stalls out!!! check engine light comes on and the car stops on the highway!! i was driving at a low rate of speed and the car just quit. it refused to start for about 5minutes.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving approximately 30 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the contact stated that the failure recurred six times. gossett chrysler dodge jeep ram (1901 covington pike, memphis, tn 38128, (901) 388-8989) was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200 convertible. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the vehicle would operate normally after it was shut off and restarted. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Still not fixed. cleaned throttle body, and when that didn't resolve the issue they replaced throttle body. car still stalls at random times, both while moving and waiting at lights. almost been in several accidents. all loss of power steering and control of the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while stationary, the vehicle stalled without warning. premiere chrysler in new orleans, louisiana was made aware of the failure and stated that the engine failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. the failure mileage was 60,436.

2012 chrysler 200 convertible heat fails to defrost window causing total visibility loss and inability to see out of windshield. lack of heat does not allow for safe operation of vehicle. this occurs when vehicle is running. the car can not warm up enough to defrost windshield. no heat coming from defrost or vents. blows cold air. this occurs when driving or stationary. can not see! dangerous!

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the heat and defroster stopped working. the vehicle was taken to landmark dodge chrysler jeep ram (1900 s noland rd, independence, mo 64055) four times, and each time the heater cooler was replaced. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 78,000.

Sludge build up in the cooling system has caused loss of heat to the passenger side and is due to a known issue with this vehicle caused by the manufacturer putting in the wrong coolant.

Takata recall no heat on passenger side, blows cold air. unable to defrost passenger side of windshield. chrysler service advised that heatercore plugged, need to replace heater core, radiator, engine oil cooler & thermostat. had all replaced, at a cost of $2200. one year later, same problem, no heat passenger side.

Car has 70k miles and heat doesn't work on passenger side of car, windshield defrost does not work, drivers side heat works sparingly. dealership calls for replacing radiator, heater core and oil cooler due to sludge build-up/clogging in coolant/heating system. this appears to be due to an incompatibility between the coolant used by chrysler and the chemicals/oils used in the manufacture of the engine system. this is 100% a manufacturing defect and the dealer & manufacturer are unwilling to replace. doing some research i am seeing this is a fairly common problem with the 2012/2013 chrysler 200, regardless of engine type. this is a safety concern as the windshield can become fogged very quickly while driving under the right conditions (damp weather) and without warning, posing a safety hazard.

I have talked to several people with chrysler 200 and the all have faulty heater core

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the engine failed and the engine stalled while the steering wheel was turned to the left. the vehicle was taken to al serra chrysler dodge jeep ram (6185 south saginaw street grand blanc township, michigan 48439, phone (810) 503-4925), but a diagnostic was unable to locate a failure code. the dealer advised that the failure could be due to low fuel. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 78,000.

Heater and defroster fail on passenger side of vehicle. this causes the driver to not be able to see. the cause of this failure is do to faulty fluid/design by chrysler. this is a major safety issues.

It started yesterday morning july 5th 2017, as i was driving 45mph to work my car just shut off with no warning.. it happened twice.. today july 6th on my way home taking a right hand turn my car shuts off again, no warning.. tried starting it which it started but then notice the engine light was on and my oil light came on saying needs oil change.... i still have over a thousand miles before my next oil change is due... later that day i checked my oil which was good, didn't need any.. i'm just confused on what's going on especially when i just paid $6500 to pay the car off...

I was driving around 40-50 mph when my vehicle shut down for no reason and with no warning. the only warning was after it shut down and the engine light came on. i had to swerve out of traffic with no power steering and turn the ignition to off. that i started it back up and it drove fine but with the check engine light still on. i have read numerous complaints about this and about dealers doing nothing about it. some complaints involving injuries and children. something needs to be done about this because i am now stuck with a lemon that is not worth what i owe.

I was driving my 2012 chrysler 200 and it stops in the middle of the road suddenly with out any warning. it happened to me 8 times in a row now with in week. i just see a check engine light on in the dashboard and the engine shuts off completely. if i try to restart the car it starts only after turning the car off for few mins. i had it checked a couple of times with a mechanic but they are not able to fix it. driving this car is not safe as it stops in the middle of the road and locks the steering as well.

Purchased a used chrysler 200 in february 2017 at 87,xxx mi. it is now june 2017 and 3 times in the last 3 days my car has suddenly died. the first time i was slowing down and made a right turn and upon accelerating it died, dash lights illuminated, quickly tried to restart and was unsuccessful with just nothing happening when turning key. took key out of ignition and retried and started right up. next day i was again slowing down and making a right turn and bam same thing same details. 3rd incident i was driving straight and the car stalled this time i was doing about 15 mph and the steering locked up, quickly took key out and restarted. engine light was on and diagnosed as crankshaft position sensor malfunction. replaced the sensor and have only driven for short distance as the first 2 times this happened were terrifying enough. after hours of online research i've found this is common and just being neglected. chrysler fix this issue before someone gets seriously injured

Engine shuts off while driving down the road. it happens on the freeway, on city streets, or at idle. we had the pcm updated in december 2016. it is now march 2017 and the vehicle continues to shut down while driving or at idle. it is extremely dangerous. the brakes barely work and you lose power steering when this happens. this is a serious issue and needs to be addressed. there are hundreds if not thousands of posts online about this issue, with no resolution. this needs to be addressed before someone dies.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle overheated and stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine and radiator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Totally integrated control module has failed leaving my car unable to start and once started have lurches in acceleration. will crank but not start.

My car received a software update for the pcm on 3/2/2017. on 03/6/2017 my car shut off completely in the middle of driving down the interstate.

I'm driving the car just shuts off, it seems to be something with the pcm that were to replace. this was very scary and dangerous. this happened in the middle of the intersection traffic flowing and the car stops. it's hard to turn or brake to get out the way of coming traffic.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that after driving approximately 30 mins and parking the vehicle, a loud banging noise, steam and smoke was present coming from under the hood. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the plastic radiator hose connector had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 50 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed, the speed reduced independently to 5 mph. the vehicle stalled and the throttle body and abs warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart on the first attempt. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 84,000.

There is no heat on the passenger side of the vehicle. chrysler service diagnosed the problem as a blockage in the heater core. they advise that they needed to replace the heater core, radiator, oil cooler and flush the system. this work was estimated at $2,700. i took the car to another shop and had the heater core replaced, the cooling system flushed and a manual flush on the engine block. this fixed the problem for more than half the cost. there are a lot of complaints about this same issue and it is a safety hazard if you cannot defrost the windshield when necessary. i believe you can be ticketed for not having safe visibility when operating your vehicle so this is defect that that chrysler should consider issuing a safety recall for. my car only has 72,000 miles so it's hard to believe that a major component like the heater core would be damaged and not work properly.

No heat/ defrost passenger side. will not clear frost/ fog on passenger side windshield. apparent known problem with sludge build up in heater core allegedly caused by component in coolant.

I have reported in the past in regard to our 2012 chrysler 200 with 3.6 v6 engine of episodes of pmu shut down while driving at slow speed. the manufacturer warranty still covered the vehicle when we first experienced this problem we now are over 60,000 miles as chrysler has not been able to resolve this problem yet. the engine quit while driving (3 times additional times), at highway speeds. we were able to get to the shoulder of the highway , without power steering and brakes; all computer support systems failed, but all electrical systems still worked. the problem has been checked 4 times after each of the stalling episodes, the pmu computer shows no codes (per chrysler and the dealer) there is no problem to fix. the last episode the esc dash lite came on, followed by the brake and the abs lights started flashing on & off which caused the speedometer to bounce up and down while the ability to maintain speed or accelerate to maintain speed was lost(again there were no codes) the last 2 times this happen were 11/30/16 & 12/1/16. i have talked to chrysler fiat but the dealer ani i have not been able to receive any service or suggestion in resolving this pmu problem. it feels like they are not concerned that there is a great safety issue that could result in injury or death. there should be some information available, as this has been a problem that have been ongoing for many models with the 3.6 v-6 engine and over a number of years, which chrysler has issued customer service notices to dealers and replaced pmu. recalls have been avoided as there has not been any serious accidents, injuries, or deaths. if you have had this type of problem with your 3.6 v6 contact chrysler and the nhtsa.

Passenger side pushes out cold air, terrible to drive in and uncomfortable. battery has been replaced 4 times in the last 2 years. alternator as well. while driving to work, my windshield frosted over from being so cold and i had to veer off the road to avoid getting into an accident.

System heating. when turning on the heat, the system blows cold air on two mid air vents and the passenger side vent. the only heat that is felt coming from drivers side vent. brown or tan sludge in recovery tank and on radiator cap

While driving down the road the etc light came on and the traction light came on and the car will not accelerate. i was able to park the car and when i restarted it that was a very rough idle and the check engine light the etc light and the traction light are all on.

I bought my 2012 chrysler 200 in 2013. i 've had a recurring problem with the engine running hot because some malfunction prevents the coolant from circulating through the engine. i have spent over $2000.00 trying to fix this problem and now my mechanic tells me the engine is no good and i'll need a new one. this happens when i'm driving. the car would run hot, i'd tow it in and my mechanic would fix it. and within a month or two, the problem would occur again. my mechanic ran diagnostics, he rebooted the computer systems and he gets the coolant flowing again but within weeks or a month the same problem reoccurs. i don't drive far to work approx. 10 miles daily commute. i may take a road trip on occasion but there is no unusual wear or tear on the vehicle. im reporting this problem aug 2016 but this has been a recurring issue over the years and the car is just for years old. i bought it used in 2013. i've spent so much money fixing the same problem and the car's problem always seems resolved until a few months down the road i have to fix it again. i haven't even paid the car off and its kaput and ready for the graveyard? this really is something chrysler needs to step up to the plate and fix. i need a new engine now and i've already spent over $2000.00 trying to fix this issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving approximately 72 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact lost control of the vehicle, veered to the left, and crashed into the plastic dividers. the vehicle was able to restart and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had low oil and the central module needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 32,000. the vin was unavailable.
