Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Chrysler 200

The car has started to overheat and heater did not work but that has since started working on its own. now car overheated and when driving it sounds as if water or something is trying to go through pipe but maybe isnt also started to leak all coolant. and battery is being drained. had the car checked and replaced thermostat but that didnt fix issue.also when driving all lights on dash turned on and started to beep. was just arriving at a store and when i came out car did not turn on. had a tow truck come out and they jump started me and said something was draining my battery. also when pumping gas it constantly stops and you have to keep pressing handle or move it around.

Driving a vehicle when the engine shut off going approximately 35 mi this has happened before many times

I was stopped at a red light and light turned green went to press gas and car completely shut off no warning at all no lights on dashboard i put it in park shut it off and started it right back up with no problem this has happened two times in the last week also no codes coming up on scanner

The vehicle stalls while driving. this is a very dangerous situation as 3 times it has stalled at 50 +mph and this has occurred on the highway. another stall occurred on a curvy state road on a bend with no shoulder. no warning light of error code has been produced by the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed at an independent mechanic which was still pending. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted or informed of the issue. the failure mileage was 94,000.

While driving on the highway, my car cut off completely. i had to try and maneuver to the side of the highway to get out of traffic. the car did not start back up after 30 minutes. i have had problems for a month where the car does not restart after i go to the store.

Driving down the road and the car just shuts off for no reason and i have to try to find away off the road without getting hit. after it sets about a hour it may or may not start.

As i was exiting the freeway coming from 55 mph down to 45 mph the car just shut off a car swerved around jumped down in a ditch due to my vehicle going to a fast halt i waited hours for a tow still didnt get it my car is left in the street because i was alone and couldn't push.... it is dark blue and dark on the street it was 11pm when it just broke down. i had no warning it did recrank but as i hit the gas softly i cuts back off now i have tried so many times due to the danger of my location the battery died this has to be a recall and class action suit.

While slowing for an exit ramp off of the highway the engine stalled. could not restart and had to be towed away.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. while driving 10-15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the passenger side cylinder head and cylinder number three showed no compression. the vehicle was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 58752459. the dealer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

76 year old male 73 year old handy cap wife car stalled twice yesterday called chrysler they said no warrenty they do not have a fix will call lawer if it happens again

At random times, the car will just shut off while driving l or turning. absolutely no power for a little bit. this has happened multiple time. i am unsure if this electrical or something to do with the engine. i have called to see if there was a recall she was told there wasn't. i have seen multiple posts online speaking of this same problem from quite a few people

In 3 weeks time the car stalled midway in the highway while driving as if it were going to turn off. i took it in for repairs and it was the shock plugs. then the brakes were not working. i took the car to replace all four brakes. a day later the battery light came on. after driving my son to school the car pulled back and shook and shut down. i took it back in for repairs and it was the alternator. today the windshield wipers froze midway. this is the most unsafe car and all should be recalled in general.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power without warning. the contact pulled the vehicle over and waited awhile. upon restarting the vehicle, it operated normally; however, the check engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to rouen chrysler dodge (1091 fremont pike, woodville, oh 43469, (419) 273-9944) where it was diagnosed that a new catalytic converter was needed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred later the same day. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 167,000.

So my car has stalled over 10 times since 2018 since it has died my insurance company will no longer come until i get this fixed . while driving on freeway and busy road while accelerating my rpms will drop to zero and i will loose power steering. if i'm lucky enough to get to the side of the road i have to turn my car off wait 45 mins to restart car will not turn over. i have done an electrical diagnostics and nothing comes up.

When accelerating my car will die and not start for two hours. the first time i was leaving a stop sigh and it died so i coasted to the side. the second time i pulled out to pass a slow vehicle going 40 mph and the car died. both times i had to leave it for a couple hours and then it started. this happened a month apart. first time was in the city and the second time was on the highway. the first time i took it to a close by chrysler dealer who said they could not find anything wrong and charged 100 dollars to hook it up to there diagnostic reader.

I have been driving the car at speeds of between 15mpl to 70mph on country roads, highways and freeways when the engine simply shut off with no warning. this has happened 14 times during the last eight months between may 23, 2018, and january 10, 2019, 1/10/19 being last time it happened, although it has happened 14 times as indicated previously indicated. it was as if i had simply turned off the ignition. i have had the car into a dealership for repairs twice and neither me, the dealership technician nor the chrysler agent the technician contacted has been able to determine the component part or system that could be the cause of the engine shutting down. on january 10, 2019, i was traveling on a busy freeway (beltway 8) kn houston tx and exited the off ramp onto 249 ((tomball parkway) when the engine stalled coasting to a stop in a moving lane of traffic with cars, trucks and 18-wheelers passing me at 50-60mps. i have attached a description of each time the engine stalled and repairs that were done and the work that was done on the car.

My daughter was driving on the highway at 70 mph when the 2011 chrysler 200 just shut off. dash went dark, radio off, car completely turned off! luckily she was by an off ramp and was able to coast to a stop at the top of the ramp. the only thing that was still working was the brakes, thank goodness! the car did not restart right away. no electrical components came back on either with turning the key. about an hour later the car did restart. we took it to a chrysler dealership the next day. they kept it for 2 days. they were unable to pull any codes from the car or recreate the event, thus being unable to fix the car and answer why it happened!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body malfunctioned and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not made aware of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.

This doesn't happen every time i drive the car. as i'm slowing up to turn, or coming up on a stop sign or red light, the car tends to start stalling. if i put the car in neutral before stepping on the breaks, it doesn't do it. but if i don't put the car in neutral it will stall & the rpm will drop to 0 & the car will cut off.

I owe a 2011 chrysler 200s and it has been stalling and cutting off without warning it has been taken to the dealership on different occasions and they cannot find the cause. i have read over 300 complaints about engine stalling with the same make, model and year of my car. chrysler manufacturer is refusing to assist. i near cause 2 accidents due to car stalling on the interstate. when the car shuts off i had no steering capability and when trying to start it wont until about an hour later

My vehicle battery light came on after getting a new battery. then driving one day on street it just stalled out. it started up after 2 mins. parked it about 1/2 an hour it started right back up only to stall again 2 more times both on street in heavy traffic. i got a alert oil change required (walmart) changed the oil made it home later went back out for the car to stall again same busy street, it started about 4 mins later, made it home didn't move it couple days. mechanic put it on diagnostic said i needed alternator still stalling after new alternator. haven't had the car a month! battery light still on after new alternator as well.

The automatic transmission has always shifted hard and now the transmission is having a hard time shifting into the next gear, it revs up and i have to take my foot off of the gas in order for it to shift. this seems to only happen in the lower gears. once i'm above 30 its fine. the code that just came on is low transmission fluid pressure.

Engine stalled out while driving with no warning and if lucky starts up after about an hour without any indication why.

While driving on the freeway during stop-and-go, rush hour traffic, my vehicle's engine completely shut off without any warning. at the moment of the engine stalling, i was coasting with my foot off of the accelerator at less than 5 mph, up a slight incline, on an overpass and inside of a construction zone that was void of a shoulder to pull off onto. when i attempted to depress the accelerator to make it over the uphill overpass, the pedal was limp and nothing happened. the electrical panel in my dash was off, with the vehicle still in drive and no physical or audio signs of warning occurred prior to the engine shutting off. i quickly hit the brakes to avoid rolling in reverse down the overpass, shifted the vehicle into park and turned the ignition key to off. when i attempted the restart the engine, the vehicle started as if nothing had occurred. after driving through the remainder of the construction zone, i exited the freeway. after making a sharp, right-handed turn from the off-ramp to the local road, the emergency "brake" warning light on the dash turned on and was accompanied with an audio warning. the light remained lit for the duration of the turn and for approximately 500 feet afterward until it turned off. no other abnormalities were observed with the vehicle. the vehicle has slightly more than 120k miles on it and nothing like this has ever occurred in the past. this appears to be a common problem with the 200, especially with the 2011 and 2012 models. my engine is a 4-cyl, 2.4l. despite this widespread hazard, and an early investigation by the nhtsa, no recall has been mandated. the rationale? because it occurs at a "low rate if speed". this is absurd. i was on a freeway overpass, inside a construction zone, during rush hour. if this not a hazard, i don't know what is. please mandate a recall for this before someone dies on a train track or intersection.

The engine died when idle at a traffic light. i had to put the car in park and restart the engine. this also happened while i was in front of a railroad track. i was very afraid that that car would not start. i was able to restart the vehicle after i had calmed myself. this is is very dangerous so i took it to have diagnostics performed at dealer. the vehicle report showed no computer codes indicating failure.

Lost power - car suddently stopped on i5 la to sacramento on the freeway and happened multiple times driving on the freeway...had to pullover. car lost power. thank god nobody hit me. very scary.

After 5 years, i discovered that there is a star issue on this car with casting sand contaminating the radiator, cooling and heating systems. the dealership wants to charge me $2200 to fix even though this is a known issue since before i purchased the car. it came out in february 2011. star issue s1109000002. first my ac did not work. the dealer replaced. then my heat did not work but dealer said it was contaminated with casting sand and it is a known issue and it is not fair that you have to pay but the extended warranty will not repair if contaminated. this is a known chrysler problem from the get go but not quite a recall. now people are trying to sell 5 year old cars for parts only. there will be certain deaths from this issue when the engine eventually seizes up from all this contamination and causes crashes. the service manager stated that the fix actually does not really fix the cause. it will happen again!!!! i said why doesn't the dealership put in the preventive maintenance suggested in the star issue and he said because it does not happen to every car. so beware buying a 2011 chrysler 200 because it is basically a five year car period. the star issue number s1109000002 is causing engines to seize up due to large contamination throughout the hvac system, radiator, and engine as it spreads into everything. it is like driving a ticking time bomb that has no heat! it has not been a safety problem yet but as these vehicles get to be my mileage, these issues can become quite serious, particularly if they do not have it monitored by a dealer and the engine just freezes on the highway while driving because it is completely contaminated with sand. i paid $30,000 for a five year car and dealer will not honor extended warranty so i must drive a car that is not safe to drive anymore. there is also a current recall that airbags and seatbelt do not work in accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. whether the vehicle was parked or while driving at any speed, the thermostat indicator remained illuminated. the dealer diagnosed the vehicle and "thermostat error" displayed on the instrument panel. the mechanic stated that the coolant ran non-stop into the engine; therefore, the engine could not warm up the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

While driving my car all of a sudden out of the blue it will just dies sometimes at 50 miles an hour sometimes at 75 miles an hour sometimes at 5 miles an hour just leaving a stop sign no fail codes whatsoever. after about one or two hours of sitting the car starts right up and drives good until the next time it does it i'm not the only one who has been having trouble with the unsafe p.o.s.!

Driving 60mph on the interstate. slowed to 45-50mph for traffic congestion. tried to accelerate again but gas pedal didn't respond. didn't realize engine had stalled. drifted over to slow lane to try to stop. power steering and brakes went out. put it in neutral and turned the ignition. was able to get off the highway and drive to the dealership for repairs.

The engine light comes on and then the electrical light; the car has stalled while in park; yesterday the car stalled while in drive, acceleration would not work and the car stalled while in the middle of the road; after turning off for a minute; it restarted; but the lights are still on indicating a problem; this is a very dangerous defect; i have read others have had this problem and it is being investigated; why is there not a recall on this safety issue?

Pulling onto a major busy highway my car shut off completely and would not restart. after spending $533 dollars in june for a electronic throttle control sensor, i'm now being told i have to pay $1300 to have the totally intergrated power module replaced which afterwards i may have to replace a power sensor. of course, they won't know if the 3rd part is need until they replace the 2nd.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

My 2011 200 gave no signs of having any problems, started right up on the first key turn, i went to go leave the parking lot of where i was but as i pulled out onto the busy road and started accelerating, the car stopped going faster and instead started to only rev as i pushed on the gas pedal. cars were approaching behind me so i pulled over to the side of the road, just in time for my car to indicate it switched itself into reverse. at this point i start panicking unsure what was going to happen next. my car was at about 5 mph at this point when the engine just died. the electronics worked for a while, until the battery died, but the engine had no hope in being started, even with a jump. after being taken to the shop i was told the alternator had failed while i was driving and that the mechanic had burnt his hand while checking it. they also mentioned something about the ground not being in place. the car had only been on for minutes, and has less then 32000 miles on it. knowing chrysler had a recall on alternators in the past i contact them first but they gave me the run around, and still are giving me the run around, but i believe there is something else going on with my vehicle then they are letting me know as they mentioned the dealership had been emailing the engineers in regards to my car. i don't feel safe putting my 15 month old son in this car, let alone myself in this car. this car is only 5 years old and still has low mileage, and i've taken care of it like a baby. there were no warning signs of anything wrong, and no reason for anything to fail unless it was something internal and that leaves me unknowing if it will happen again, at any given moment.

Dash board warning lights come on and the car dies. i have had the alternator and alternator belt replaced last summer; now it is doing it again. the car is very dangerous and it simply "dies".

I have a 2011 chrysler 200 2.4l engine that over this passed week has stalled at least 8 times. every time the vehicle will start to show signs of "lagging" and while at low speeds just shut off. i am currently a college student and rely on having a vehicle to drive, since i live 6 hours from home. tonight i was on my way home and it stalled on me 4 times every time i would get about 100 yards and it would do it again, finally i got a safe place to park the vehicle and had to walk back to my apartment. tomorrow i am having the vehicle towed to get it looked at. the check engine light does come on every time this happens but i go through the menu on the steering wheel and it always say "system: ok" so no warning code is popping up. which i know when i take it to the dealership they are going to say they "cannot replicate the problem" and just send me on my way. but this is a very big problem the steering wheel locks up every time the vehicle powers off and one of the times it has done this i was in the middle of an intersection. i no longer feel safe driving my own car and after seeing all of the other complaints about this same problem i would like to see something happen about it.

I bought my 200s to commute back and forth to work. i drive 114 miles a day. this car has become very unsafe. *do not buy this car* it was an ok car until recently. 3 times in the last 3 weeks my car has stalled out. every time it stalls out i loose break and searing functionality. very dangerous. twice it has stalled out while coming to a stop in stop and go traffic. i lost the ability to control my car while on a major hwy 45 in houston. not a place you want to be and feel helpless. luckily i was able to quickly shift into neutral and restart the vehicle before i got into an accident. the third time was a lot closer call. my car stalled out while i was slowing down on a hwy to hwy on ramp. (almost causing me to hit the lane divider) i had to use my emergency break and all my strength to control the vehicle and bring it to a stop. at that point i had cars backing up behind me and honking. luckily i was able to start the car and drive away. (this could have gone a much different way. on a single lane on ramp from beltway 8 to hwy 249 4-5 stories in the air with cars all moving at 45-65 mph my car stalled in a 90 degree turn. i'm lucky i'm not dead.) i have taken it to a mechanic shop but they can not find the problem. it is not causing the check engine light to come on and not throwing any codes.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle's speed reduced to 20 mph independently and the traction control and electronic control throttle warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. the vehicle was driven with caution and would not exceed 20 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the electronic control throttle was being replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 33,980. the vin was unavailable.

the original date is sept. 2012. i was unable to enter this info above. i have been having problems with unexpected loss of power, (falling dead) since 2012. it normally happens when i am going slow due to being in traffic. i am stopped or barely moving and when we start moving i press on the accelerator and it will not go because it has fallen dead. i have to put my flashers on, pull over if possible, put the gear in park, turn off the engine and restart the car and it is good to go. there have been times this happens if i am at a stop light also when this occurs. the next issue is the low tire pressure light comes on most times when the weather changes. i have taken the car to a tire repair shop and was told when we have extreme weather changes, this will happen and to check the tire pressure every 3 weeks. this is costing me $5.00/trip for pressure checks. i have taken my car back to the dealership when i started having these problems, they checked the car, did a test drive, kept it overnight and said no problems were found. very disappointing and frustrating. *tr

On 3/3/15 around 5:40pm i was driving 30 mph on the highway. i placed my foot on the accelerator, when my car turned completely off. i immediately turned on my hazards lights, slammed on my brakes and put the car in park, i turned the car back on and continued driving down the road, all this occurred so quickly i almost was rammed in the back by a large truck! im terrified to drive my car now, i don't have another car so i don't know what to do.. *tr

I was operating vehicle on surface streets at approximately 35 mph when the vehicle slowed down and would not accelerate to more than 20 mph. i took the vehicle to a local chrysler dealer and it was diagnosed with a worn out throttle body. the part was replaced at considerable expense as the car was out of warranty. i was told by several parties that this failure was premature and the internal parts wore out because they were defective. the mechanic told me he replaces a lot of these throttle bodies.

Engine has stalled when pulling out onto the highway after being stopped at a light or stop sign. this has happened at least 3 or 4 times almost causing me to get hit by oncoming traffic. i told the dealership about it at the time. they checked and said they couldn't find anything wrong.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving from a complete stop, the engine exhibited slight hesitation without warning. the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. in addition, the failure recurred when driving up an incline. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate or locate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.

Sunday afternoon i came to a stop to make a left turn. i proceeded i made it into the parking lot and that's when the car engine shut off. i put brakes on immediately to avoid hitting a car because i could not turn my wheel because power steering was off because engine shut off. scared me. i took it to robersons dealership 2 weeks prior to this because it did it twice. they ran computer test found nothing wrong. and then today this happened. i am scared. i will take car back to dealership tomorrow. monday jan 12 2015. i then read this has happened to others and chrysler did find a problem but nhtsa did not force them to recall. someone could get killed if car stalls while crossing a road and get slammed into. this is in excusable, and needs to be recalled. i am scared and furious and shaken up. the steering felt weird right before it happened. *tr

Over the past 4 months, our parents vehicle has been in to the dealership for servicing 6 times due to the vehicle being completely dead. the car never sat longer than 2 - 3 days without being driven. they were told the problem was due to the license plate light, then the glove box light not turning off, then they weren't sure. on 2/26, the vehicle would only start and run, while connected to the jumper. the dealership took the car in and had it for 2 full weeks. the dealership could not diagnose the problem. mom & dad picked up the vehicle on march 14th, no explanation as to the cause of the problem. went back to the dealership on march 19th to find out if any further information had been determined... nothing! they were then advised the car has to be driven all the time, to avoid dying because the computer system never shuts off and therefore, drains the battery when the car is idle. they were further advised to purchase and use a battery tender trickle charger and to keep it connected to the vehicle whenever the vehicle is not in operation. this is very inconvenient as our parents are in their 80's and don't get around so easy anymore. this is not an acceptable solution. they've had this vehicle for almost 4 years, if the computer issue as described by the dealer were accurate, why did it work properly for the first 3.5 years and now has issues? the vehicle is still under warranty however, without accurate diagnosis, nothing is being done. the last communication we've had with the dealer was friday march 27th. telling us if the car doesn't die again by this coming friday (april 3, 2015), they'll be closing the case. the problem has not yet been diagnosed or resolved. is there anything we can do, any information you can provide, to help our parents get this issue resolved? *tr

The alternator of the vehicle failed as i was driving and caused the vehicle to stop operating. *tr

Car is a chrysler 200 , 2011 , i was making a right turn, and the car stalled , the speed was around 10 mph , i contacted the chrysler dealer near my home and they told me that " do not know why the vehicle stalled " i explained , i was driving make a right turn and car stalled, and nothing works , car die , told me to bring the vehicle and i will be charge for it. i when to this site and i found out that is a known issue with this car , why the dealer told me that ? and why the nhtsa do nothing about, is very dangerous, i could be involve in an accident, could be injury or a fatal . nhtsa waiting to be fatality in order to get involved????? why we have to die ? to take actions.please fix this terrible issue. *tr

First incident i was leaving a parking lot my car stalled,2nd after a stop sign, 3rd pulling out of a driveway. and today at a stop light. cannot get an appointment at dealership for 3 weeks since i need a loaner car. if it happens again,i will drive it there and demand it be fixed. *tr
