The vehicle would issue a warning ding with a dashboard indicator saying, "service airbag." the dashboard airbag warning light would then illuminate. the warning would remain on for several minutes, then the warning light would extinguish. initially the warning light would only illuminate when a passenger was riding in the front passenger seat, and even then would only happen infrequently. over a six month period of time the airbag warning would occur more frequently, and eventually would illuminate even when a passenger was not in the vehicle. the dealership blamed the condition on either 1) the seat getting wet and damaging the sensor (which has never happened), or 2) the repeated act of placing my 10-20lb laptop backpack on the passenger seat (wouldn't a 200 lb passengers be more likely to damage a sensor than a 20lb backpack?).
Service airbag lights intermittently. original cause appeared to be movement of front passenger seat; recent causes were sudden braking and random normal speed cornering. dealer attempted to reproduce problem, but unable. dealer hand tightened wires under seat. problem corrected for a few weeks, then returned. suggested next step by dealer: replace pps module. unfortunately, this is $800+ repair with no guaranteed outcome. this problem has been reported by other volt owners in internet posts. would like to know if gm has any fixes not known to dealer.
Paid dealer $160 to find out passenger presence module had failed. they're asking for another $820 (mostly labor) to fix the issue by replacing with part #22968438 in the passenger seat...so i'm driving around with a bad airbag i guess. can't see spending 1000.00 right now to fix a blinking warning light. i see on the web that others are also having this problem, and wonder how many volt owners are driving with bad airbags waiting for a recall to be announced. seems like a part that just shouldn't have much wear-and-tear, and should maybe never become an expensive repair issue. engine, tranny, tires, etc. - sure. but not the dang airbag system. my cell if you want more details [xxx] parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cc
Passenger presence module needs replacing at a dealer-quoted cost of $700. rear seat stitching came apart, requiring several hours of repair. 2 bad 12 volt batteries in 36,000 miles have somehow affected the main computer and i haven't received a quote yet. bad oil line connection on the master cylinder. mechanic said defective crimp. bought the car in 6/15 at 16,000 miles with a reconstructed title. air bags did not deploy in accident. i doubt that the accident influenced any of these problems. the car performed flawlessly for 10,000 after i bought it (except for the 12 volt battery).
Whenever someone sits in the passenger seat, the service airbag indicator comes on. dealer reviewed codes and determined the airbag sensor is faulty. the service tech stated the passenger airbag will not inflate until this is repaired at a cost of $850.00. there are only 56,000 miles on the car, but the problem started around 40,000 miles.
My sensor on the passenger seat is faulty my airbag service light keeps on turning on and off consistently. never had an accident or spills on the seat.
Passenger seat airbag sensor intermittently malfunctioning causing airbag to disable while passenger is present in the vehicle. vehicle presents 'service airbag' message in the dashboard and passenger airbag indicator is set to off
Passenger seat occupancy sensor intermittent failure. should be added to investigation pe19013. airbag light and service airbag message is on 7 out of 10 times the car is turned on and no passenger or item is in the passenger seat(while stationary). light will turn off after several minutes of driving or applying force to the bottom of the empty passenger seat. driving with a passenger the light is usually off, however sometimes it will come on with a passenger present and vehicle in motion, and can be resolved by the passenger shifting their weight a few times. issue is too hard to demonstrate to dealer and would cost too much for me to bother repairing on my own. other models from chevrolet during that time period use the same sensor and have been recalled or are pending a recall. this problem first started when i purchased the car in 2016 but much more infrequently. it has become more and more common gradually ever since. seat has not had anything spilled on it, or rain let in from open windows etc.
Passenger-side airbag gets an error because of a malfunctioning seat sensor. happens whether someone is sitting in the seat or not. more times than not the airbag warning will go out after driving for a bit.
Passenger airbag sensor light came on and turns on and off randomly whether or not passenger is occupying the passenger seat. unsafe if there is an accident as airbags won't deploy.
My airbag sensor intermittently comes in and off. i took it to a chevrolet dealership and they said it was the passenger seat airbag sensor and that it would cost about $900. i have read on a volt forum that this is happening to many of us. this should be covered by gm.
Passenger seat presence sensor is faulty, causing "service airbag" warnings and airbag warning light to illuminate. problem is intermittent, but once sensor is tripped, errors and warning messages appear until vehicle is powered off. happens frequently - many times per day. i don't know if this issue is actually affecting the airbag's functionality. i have learned that this is an expensive repair - about $500 for the sensor, and $500 for labor. there are many others with 2013 volts who are experience this problem this should be fixed under warranty, as this is a safety issue that has been happening on my car for years.
The passenger presence sensor failed in my volt several years ago. since it's no longer under warranty, the dealer quoted me $1000 to fix this issue. this is a critical safety issue and chevy should recall these because it's a very common problem. the airbag is often not activated when i have a passenger due to the fact that the sensor has failed and can't sense a person in the seat. critical safety issue! not to mention, the airbag warning light is intermittent and extremely obnoxious beeping multiple times every time i drive now. this seat has never been wet and the car has never been in an accident. also, i rarely have passengers.
At 40,000 miles approximately, the check airbag sensor light came up. the dealer said that because it was out of the 36,000 mile warranty, it was not covered and it would be about $850 and there would be no guarantee that the sensor change would fix it. i refused the work for that price. i have driven another 135,000 miles and it is still on. safety has been reduced due to the high charge for a manufacturing defect.
My airbag light on the dash has been on for a very long time now and i just read an article the other day that thousands of complaints have been made over this same issue. i have a snap-on scanner for reading obd2 ports on a large amount of vehicles and when i plug mine up to my volt it tells me it is the sensor in the seat. i have already replaced this sensor once. the dealer tried to rob me in trying to charge me over 800.00 for this very simple repair. needless to say it is out yet again and gm knows there are scores of problems with the volt but they wont properly address them. i had a 2017 volt that caught fire and burnt to the ground. what did they do about it? not a [xxx] thing. i sincerely hope the feds make them do something to address this vehicle as lives are on the line. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Service airbag sensor issue on the 2013 chevy volt. is seems to be a common issue per the prior complaints i see. as stated by others, no water damage or anything has occured on the passenger side of my vehicle. in fact, i've only had people actually ride in the passenger seat 5 times in total in all the years that i've had it. so basically it isn't used. the issue is an airbag / sensor issue and there should be a recall by chevy to fix said issue! as others have stated. it does come and come but has been more frequent as of late even though the car passenger seat is not used!
Was entering highway in the dark and went to put the car into "hold" mode to run the gas engine and save battery charge. this requires pushing a button 3 times. i reached over and pushed the button. accidently was pushing the "power" button which is right below the "mode" button shutting down the car. the entire car shuts off, no lights, powertrain, ps, pb just dead. this is easy to do if you are watching the road and just glance down to the buttons. they are placed too close together and this is going to be a serious problem if in traffic or on winding roads. numerous reports of this on the volt forum! *tr
When a cell phone is placed on the center of the passenger seat, the passenger seat belt warning light illuminates and arms the passenger air bag. no weight required. *tt
