My 2012 chevrolet traverse with 72,000 miles is experiencing the same issue as many other chevrolet vehicles regarding v6 timing chain. check engine light comes on with code p0016 p0017. since i purchased my vehicle in december of 2011, i'm over the 5 year portion of the warranty and the 2012 traverse is not included in the customer service program extending the warranty on vehicles with the same engine to 10 years / 120,000 miles. chevrolet needs to be made to recall vehicles they made with this issue.
Our 2012 chevy traverse 5 year, 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty expires 11/15/2017. our 2012 chevy traverse had an engine failure. also brake failure. i was told by the service dept from the dealer that the issue was a part fell into the piston. manufacturers warranty is 5 year 100,000 miles, we have 90,000 miles and our 5 year isn't up unitl nov 15, 2017. dealer service made us provide 3 receipts from the maintenance shop, then required receipts up til 2015 when we last used the dealer service. because the receipts all did not list the vin # or license plate they will not honor the warranty. i told the service manager you are more than welcome to contact the maintenance shop yourself to confirm the car that was serviced was the car in question. they refused and refuse to honor the 5 year, 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty. please help, we need this car for transporting our children to and from school, etc
While driving, traction control automatically went off, then automatically went back on. happened as i was exiting a parking lot onto a busy road. went off again, then in the middle of my turn, car suddenly decelerated and i was barely able to make it into the next parking lot. gradually ramped up to about 20 mph. traction control automatically came "on" but so did the check engine light. let the car sit for about an hour and it would drive (but i did not get over 40 mph or further than around the block). check engine still on. thank goodness i was not on the interstate as had been about 15 minutes earlier.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that while the vehicle was driven at an undisclosed speed there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. the contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to (mike savoie chevrolet located at 1900 w maple rd, troy, mi 48084 phone number 248-566-6523) where the timing chain was replaced. the contact stated that after two years the failure recurred. the contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer who diagnosed that the same repair was needed. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a case was opened. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
I bought the car 12/2015. when the engine stopped on me on 1-95 with my children and i, we were terrified. during a service in 2/2016, i found out there was a 20,000 mile discrepancy. they supposedly fixed the engine but the a/c was not covered in the standard warranty. since then, i bought my car to autonation in aprox. 12 times. last time, i bought the car over in may, i dropped in off because my car was shaking, gas was coming out the pipe and then it stopped and received my car back over 24 hours later. when i picked my car back, i received a estimate of atleast $3,000 and was told if i were to get the certain repairs done to the car, it does not mean that, my car would stop having the problem, when the car stops. again, this month, my car did the same thing and the trunk door would not stay open, i have to hold the door up with my hands. then i took it somewhere else, that repair center, stated that my computer has problems, i need a new condenser and compressor.
2012 chevrolet traverse engine knocking noise. thought is was rod knocking but know believe it to be timing chain. vehicle is out of warranty and does not run. chevrolet need to recall these engines and fix these timing chains.
Engine seized while driving on the freeway. no oil in engine. never had a leak, changed oil 2800 miles before incident, the oil pressure gauge read normal, no idiots lights on the dash. where did the all the oil go in 2600 miles?
Experienced an issue with reduced engine power/stabilitrak/traction off. this happened suddenly without warning while i was headed home work.engine reving unable to move at normal speed i took it to the dealership & was told it was 3 broken wires on the tcm. got the truck back and all seemed ok, then less than 1 week later after pulling out of my driveway chmes started dinging, check engine light started flashing, traction contol light came on, dic showed "service stibilitrack" and "service traction control" it is at the dealership now...
Vehicle was traveling apx 25 mph and slowing for a right turn. car died in busy traffic at intersection on a city street. no warning lights, no oil light and no engine light. restarted vehicle and it sounded horrible and had no power. took it into a shop to find the engine had failed due to improper oil pressure. spun rod bearing, and timing chain failure. car ran perfect before this incident and i adhered to oil change schedule . i still owe $20,000 on it! gm and chevy will not help, even tho i bought from a chevy dealership. also had to replace power steering pump twice in a year. blower motor quit working and wiper motor. after researching online, i find to these to be extremely common issues. there was a recall for timing chain and engine failure in 2009 to 2011, then again in 2013 but not 2012? why chevy?! cost to fix: $9,926. almost half of what i owe on a vehicle ive had a year.
We were driving the vehicle with two small infants in the car going 70 mph on the highway when suddenly the vehicle went into limp mode and rapidly lost speed, causing us to swerve into the ditch and other cars behind us slamming on their brakes. the check engine light, traction control light, and stability control light went on. engine was running rough and needed to be shut off and turned back on in order to restart the vehicle to normal function. the vehicle was brought into a chevrolet dealership where it was determined that the vehicle needs a new throttle body. after contacting general motors, we were told this is a known issue with the 2012 chevrolet traverse, and in some cases an extended warranty has been given. we were then told that our vehicle does not fit that description because the throttle body was made in a different facility as the others. this is the exact same error as the known issue but general motors is refusing to take any action. this is an extremely dangerous issue that needs to be rectified immediately in order to prevent serious injury.
Traverse came to sudden stop in middle of road with no warning. tow to mechanic who found there was no oil. zero oil leaks located; appeared to have burned all oil in between oil changes. traverse had 81k miles and was just a few months outside of the power train warranty at time. almost 7 thousand dollars spent on new engine. we also own a 2009 chevrolet malibu with 72k miles that we recently discovered had no oil on dipstick in between oil changes. added two quarts of oil, which only got it to bottom of dipstick. we have now heard many examples (friends/family) in which this is happening to chevrolet's with under 100k miles.
I am second owner i got it with 60k miles on it, i stil have to paid 10k to the bank for my traverse and now the timing chain why me!!! car has 113k miles on it. my traverse looks brand new i take good care of it. this is my family car please help!😢
I was driving 70mph on the interstate (with my 4 children in tow) my cel, service stabilitrac and reduced engine power lights came on. my speed was reduced to around 45mph. i had two semis behind me, the one directly behind me had to get over very quickly to avoid rear ending me. i put on my hazards and took the next exit approximately 7 miles ahead. once off the interstate i shut off my vehicle, waited two minutes then restarted, lights and messages still on. i proceeded to drive but could only go around 45mph while my vehicle was not wanting to go. i parked it at work then at lunch i drove it on city streets at 35mph. i parked it again at my work. when i got off i started the car and started driving, no lights or messages. i proceeded to drive to the interstate on my way home. when my vehicle hit 60mph the same thing happened, luckily no vehicles behind me. i got off the interstate and drive 45mph the rest of the way home. my vehicle was parked for a few days. after starting again the same lights and messages appeared. i contacted my dealer and was told my vehicle was not part of the special coverage for this exact issue. i contacted chevy customer service and was told my vin/year was not part of the issue and there was nothing they could do knowing this is a known issue and was one of the scariest moments of my life. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the oil pressure low indicator illuminated then the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic that diagnosed the vehicle as having an engine failure due to oil not transferring from the reservoirs to the engine and metal being present. the vehicle was taken to two other independent mechanics and the dealer. the diagnostic testing results were all the same. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
2012 chevrolet traverse. consumer recommends issuing a recall notice on the vehicle models engine. *as *tr
Problem started at 48,000 miles engine misfires, drops power when traveling at high rate of speed, service airbag, service stabilizer warning messages come up on dashboard along with all warning lights. extremely dangerous when traveling and reduced power occurs. chevrolet and service dealership are not standing behind vehicle and cannot find issue to repair the vehicle. i feel as though there needs to be a recall as this could cause a deadly accident when dropping to two engine cylinders while driving
Takata recall i recently purchased a 2012 chevrolet taverse with 35,000 miles from supreme chevrolet cadillac of plaquemine on 5/23/2016. the engine light has been on for a little over a week now, the "service airbag" shows on the dashboard, the airbag light is on, the steering wheel alignment is off, the passenger window power button on the driver side want roll the window down at times, their is a noise when the air is on and also when i turn it off, and gets worse when i move the steering wheel.. my car was parked in my driveway when i noticed the lights for the airbag and engine, it was in motion when i noticed the button for the window, the steering wheel alignment was off, and the noise being made. their was a recall on 2012 chevrolet traverse in december of 2015 and earlier in 2015, im not sure how long a recall last but if i am gonna pay almost $41,000 for this vehicle i would like for not only myself but my 3 children and fiance to feel safe riding in it. if there is anything else i need to explain feel free to contact me..
Major saftey risk: my traverse was well maintained was often filled with soccer kids. the safety failure could have been deadly! while driving, the auto began displaying the following messages in rapid succession: battery saver active, service battery charging system, service traction control, service stabilitrak. i parked the car to drop of my kids, the car would not start again. after a jump, i headed for the dealer which was 4 miles away. operations appeared ok initially. on the expressway, the car electronics went out. not just radio and a/c, but all electrical. i realized that the engine was no longer running while in rush hour traffice on a chicago expressway. no hazards, no way to lower windows, i was extremely lucky to find a gap in the traffic to get to the side of the road and park. from the shoulder of the expressway, cars continued to fly past me at high speed. this was absolutely chaotic and dangerous. i waited for aaa to arrive. aaa was forced to tow (my traverse is front wheel drive) rather than flatbed because without electricity we the car was stuck in park. at the chevy dealer, they quickly read the error codes and presented me with a $1,400 estimate to replace the alternator. sharing my frustration and pointing out that this type of catastrophic failure was well beyond any reasonable expectation of a presumably safe vehicle, they found a way to lower the cost to $607. (i do respect and appreciate the service department at the dealership.) this clearly should be a recall issue and chevy should correct these issues on their dime. i bought the traverse with the expecatation of safety and reliability. i am now very skeptical and am hessitant to fill this 8 seater with kids the way i used too. many others have experienced similar failures. this is a potential mortal danger to drivers, passengers and other innocent bystanders!
Engine issues appeared around 80k miles. started as a pinging sound when driving one day, within 20 minutes and without warning, check engine light was on and power was very limited. was driving on a two lane road and was able to immediately pull over, could have been a much different situation if this occurred on the highway or in a high traffic area. had the car towed to the dealer who reported engine failure and "replaced 2 rods." covered under power train warranty. not even 1 year later, at 100,750 miles, the engine failed again. same sound when pulling out of the driveway. immediately parked and had car towed again. dealer stated that it is no longer within the 100,000 power train mile warranty and will cost upwards of $5,900 to repair. vehicle was serviced in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
My wife left for work acouple of mornings and calls me to tell me the traction control light, check engine light and the stabilitrac light came on and the vehicle had trouble driving when she would press on the gas.
While traveling at 70mph on interstate, the check engine light suddenly went on and i immediately lost power to 5mph with engine running roughly. i limped into chevrolet dealer who replaced mass air flow sensor and throttle body. chevrolet claims there is no recall but a friend who has 2001 traverse was sent letter indicting a possible problem could occur indicating same circumstance-"the engine to run rough , cause the malfunction-indicator lamp/and or reduced power message to illuminate, and reduce the engines power. this condition is very serious and could have bee catastrophic.
Car lost engine power while driving over 60mph on the expressway. *js
2012 chevy traverse engine light and traction control light come on. engine loses power and requires the vehicle to. e restarted to regain power. we have had the vehicle checked by the dealership 3 times for the same reason. the dealership has reset the computer each time. the last time the diagnostic computer the dealer has stated low fuel volume. the traction control and engine light come on the same day usually within an hour or two. the service advisor told us to try hi test ethanol free gas. we did as told with a fuel treatment they put in the tank. the lights still came on. when the traverse is started in the morning(cold start) the engine runs rough. this vehicle only has 47000 miles on it and was purchased new. we have alway kept the vehicle maintained. last year the traverse started using oil a quart or more in 1000 miles when driven on long trips.
The engine continues to run once ignition is shout off and key is removed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet traverse. while driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and the faulty sensors were replaced; however, the failure recurred and the headlights stopped working. the contact had to drive with the high beams activated. the manufacturer did not offer any assistance, except to refer the contact back to the dealer and nhtsa. the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was 82,000. the vin was not provided.
While driving in our traverse the ignition fell out if the on position killing the engine and locking the steering wheel. *tr
I was driving through a parking lot and the stabillitrack light came on, the check engine light flashed and the traction control light came on. the driver center said the traction control shut off and it also stated to service stabillitrack. the engine seemed to slow itself as well. i parked the vehicle and waited a few minutes. the warning lights finally went off on their own and the traction control turned back on, on it's own. the car seemed ok driving home for 2 miles and engine power seemed to return to normal but there seems to be some hesitation in the transmission shifting at low speeds too. i called the dealer and the soonest they can get me in to check the car is monday. i asked if it was safe to drive and they would not commit to safety or reliability but refused provide any relief until monday and gave me no offer of a loaner car. i just did some investigating online to research what the cause of this problem might be and it appears that this is a very common problem with this vehicle and it can occur at high speeds on the highway. many forums list many people with this complaint. i am concerned this could occur again and cause an accident. the problem looks to be intermittent and will occur without warning at any speed. in my opinion this is a safety problem which needs to be taken seriously. i am fearful for my families safety in this vehicle. *tr
I am on my 3rd engine since purchasing this vehicle. since day 1 i have had issues with the traction control and stabilitrac. randomly service lights come on for those as well as reduced engine power while driving. the engine has locked up on me twice. i have had numerous electrical issues with the vehicle. when the car idles or i'm stopped at a light my service lights come on. my transmission is now an issue. i have spent over 15k on repairs for a vehicle i bought for 17k..i was lied to when i purchased the vehicle being told i was the 2nd owner instead of the 5th. the passenger air bag has a code. the ac doesn't work, the heat would blow all the time even if off and on cool, now the blower doesn't work at all. the windows don't open.
Driving on highway, started up hill at 55 mph in traffic. following alarms came on: traction control dashboard symbol; stabilitrack off; engine power reduced; traction control disabled. vehicle immediately slowed to 40 mph and would not go faster. online forums indicate this is a throttle body or ecu problem, known to gm at least since 2010. it has been handled on an individual basis depending how much the individual customers complain. i regard this as a safety issue since in highway traffic it could lead to a rearend collision at high speed with consequent loss of vehicle control and loss of lives. believe gm has used search engine optimization to bury the forum discussions on this, but if you search for chevy traverse throttle body defect you can easily find it. *tr
This vehicle has engine defect, which dangerously stops the car while driven. the chevrolet dealership tried to repair once but failed. i purchased this vehicle from chevrolet dealership in november of 2012. on september 28, 2013, the engine of my vehicle suddenly completely stopped running while i was driving it. i brought it back to "mac maik chevrolet" in houston for examination and repair. on october 11, 2013, the dealership gave it back to me assuring that they repaired it. two days later, on october 13, 2013, while i was driving on a road, at a speed of approximately 35 mph, the car again suddenly came to a halt, blocking the steering wheel, brakes and entire engine. the car ran into an intersection before it came to full stop in the middle of it. thankfully, no other car was in the intersection. it was dangerously close to an accident. the dealership now says that they found another problem and again assure that they fixed it. i made a complaint to general motors, which simply responded that they think it is now fixed. no reasonably prudent person would ever drive this car again. i was in extreme danger twice due to the defect. the dealership and gm do not want to take any action until someone gets into a serious accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet traverse. while driving 70 mph, the engine seized. the contact was able to coast the vehicle to the off ramp of the highway into a parking lot. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was then towed to classic chevrolet cadillac (3855 eastex fwy, beaumont, tx 77706, (409) 892-5050) where it was also determined that the engine needed to be replaced and metal shavings were found in the oil. the contact stated that chevrolet issued a report that engines in the vehicles may experience metal shavings, which could cause engine failure. on two occasions, the contact pointed out knocking noises to the dealer when she brought the vehicle in for oil changes. the manufacturer stated that they could not assist. the failure mileage was 115,084.
The vehicle makes a grinding noise when braking. when you hit the brakes you also hear a crunching sound from the inside of the car. when attempting to stop you also feel the car jerking. the car has the stabilitrak light come on and when that happens it also says you have lost traction for the vehicle. when this happens the car feels like its gliding and has difficulty stopping. the engine in my car has a noise on the drivers side since the day i purchased the vehicle. at times you can even hear the noise while driving with your windows up. *tr
