Check engine light for throttle bottle sensor which causes the gas pedal to stick when trying to accelerate. service stability track and traction control off which causes the car to lose engine power while driving
Timing chain went out at 86000 miles
Driving the traverse started to smell wires burning in the cabin dashlights started going crazy and dinging . was about a mile to where i could pull over safely .. started to pull off the breaks and steering seemed to stop working and the vehicle died.. i nearly hit bridge pillar not being able to steer or stop.. the car was full with myself 4 children and a newborn.. i am told the motor is ruined and no one can pinpoint the other problems.. the repair costs are around 6000$ which have not been done because honestly i'm scared for my life to fix this vehicle and drive it..
The timing chain needed to be replaced at 113,000 miles. this was a know flaw by gm as problems occurred in the 2009 and 2010 traverse engine that resulted in reimbursements for repairs. the 2011 traverse has the same problem and the cost to repair is about $4,500. gm should reimburse for this issue as the flaw has not been fixed in 2011 model.
I keep getting codes for emission and timings chain. my back up safety sensor and wheel sensor doesn't work.
I was on my way home from dinner when the engine started revving on it's own and the car began jerking. i pulled to the side of the road and the engine killed. i restarted the vehicle and noted that the battery was suppling enough power and the temperature gage was normal. at this time, the lights started to flicker, the rpms were going up and down fairly quickly and the windows and locks were clicking. i was able to get the vehicle home (5 miles), but the problems persisted the entire drive. the second i would let me foot off the gas pedal, the engine would kill. i took it to the mechanic and he said when he hooked it up to the machine to see what the problem was, there was so much wrong he couldn't actually tell what was causing what. the computer and engine both were recommended to be replaced. i let him know as well it had become more difficult in the last few months to turn the wheel when going at a slow speed and virtually impossible to park. he stated it is a known issue with this make, model and year. the steering, the computer and the engine he has seen multiple customers have problems with.
Codes are as followed: p0008, p0496, p0221 , p0017, c0242, c00561
Was driving home from work engine made a ticking sound then knocked a little upon acceleration, no lights came on and i was within a 1/2 mile to my home so i kept driving. car died as i pulled into driveway, had i been on the street i would not have been able to pull over as there was no warning. i took it to the dealer who said the timing belt went out and ruined the engine, total cost for new engine $7250 and despite other years and vin numbers being recalled they refused to cover my vehicle that only has 52,000 miles. mechanic all but admitted it was a flaw and told me to save my receipt. i asked him if the only way chevy will cover it is if someone gets killed, or if enough people complain and he said yes. why not be honest about it and stand behind their product? now i'm scared even with a new engine it could happen again, only i might not be lucky enough to be in my driveway.
Went for an oil change and then noticed my coolant reservoir completely. i contacted oil company and topped coolant off. next day went to work and oil company came to inspect the car and coolant empty again. went to oil company after work and was advised to go to dealership as it appears to be a water pump leak. next morning went to shaheen chevrolet and paid $101.86 and the advised it was my water pump leaking at shaft weep hole. i research3rd and found recall 13079 and contacted gm at 18002221020 and s/w anna and was advised its not a recall but a customer satisfaction program. and that i had the customer satisfaction on 4/19/2014 and it only carried a 12 month warranty. however since this seems related they will assign my case to a senior advisor ...case 8-3280633041
Vehicle had had been shuddering and misfiring on and off for quite some time, check engine light came on, took to shop for diagnosis. shop stated codes were related to stretched timing chains. i then took to dealer, got same diagnosis and a $2,000 estimate. had repairs done. check engine light has not come back on since. car would hesitate and loose power attempting to accelerate when taking off in traffic. felt unsafe driving, as i never knew when car was going accelerate or not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated one week after the vehicle was purchased. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing belt was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 117,000.
A number of months ago, while i was driving on the highway all lights on the dashboard went on an a message displaying "reduced power engine" was displayed. at the same time, that is exactly what happened., the engine power was reduced for few seconds and then everything went back to normal. months before the described incident, i received a letter from chevrolet describing this issue and stating about an extended warranty to cover this issue. i went to the dealership and i was i will be charged roughly $150.00 to detect the issue and, if and only if, certain codes were displayed on the scan, it will be covered by the extended warranty. since it was expensive i decided to go to another place and the scan for free and obtain the codes. no codes were displayed. since 4 months ago the engine shutoff while the vehicle is moving, to start the engine is required to stop by any possible way, and restart the engine. once again, all lights on the dashboard turn and the vehicle completely shutoff. this had happened at least six times in the last 4 months. in all of this incidents i can not tell if the "reduced power engine" message is displayed since the priority is to stop the vehicle. i took the vehicle couple weeks ago to the dealership and i was charged about $150.00 to diagnose the problem. the feedback from chevrolet was that nothing was with in the vehicle. it is inconceivable that i was charged that much by chevrolet to come back with a response that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. chevrolet is well aware (the letter received in the past) there is an issue with the vehicle. furthermore, the internet is plenty of people describing the same issue with the traverse. i do not know the parameters of nhtsa to call when should be a recall , but based on the letter that chevrolet sent, and the multiple complains suggests it might be.
My engine keeps using oil but not leaking anywhere between oil changes
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. after performing a routine tune up on the vehicle, the engine failed to start. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (rainbow chevrolet in laplace, louisiana) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain malfunctioned. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 104,000.
Engine bearing failure causing engine to seize. while driving on busy highway vehicle stalled causing unexpected stopping with no warning from vehicle.
Timing change
Engine failed catastrophically on the busy i10 freeway at 50 mph. it was very fortunate that a pile-up did not occur. this could have resulted in injury or death. dealer diagnosed the problem to a clogged catalytic converter that started to disintegrate and blow abrasive ceramic dust back into the engine. eventually causing it's complete failure.
June 24, 2017 driving at 70mph on 2 lane highway with outside temperature around 85 degrees and suddenly lost power, speed dropped quickly, engine light came on and stopped car on side of road. narrowly avoided accident from sudden deceleration. turned off engine and waited about 15 seconds and restarted engine. drove ok after that. had similar loss of power with warning lights of "power reduced" and engine light came on february 2017 in grocery store parking lot. left engine off for about one hour and then restarted ok but acceleration sluggish. took car to auto mechanic and they could find nothing wrong.
Check engine light came on with code p008, took to dealer & found 3 timing chains needed replaced which means the engine must come out and an open estimate of at least $2350.00. found on cartruckinfo.com and nhtsa.gov this is a common complaint and needs corrected by general motors and chevrolet. unacceptable for a 2011 vehicle with 64,000 miles.
I had to replace an engine at 30k miles due to 'metal in oil". never once missed an oil change and no warning of any issue until car died in the middle of a busy road while trying to turn right onto side street.. after replacing engine had to get new wheel senors as they went bad 2 weeks later. one and a half years later here we are dash flashing saying 'service stabilitrack, service traction control, engire power reduces". check engine light also on. mechanic says i will need a new accelorator pedal along with throttle body. the car itself at this point is under 50k miles. also passenger side window does not go up or down with drive side door levers.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving various speeds, the steering wheel shook and the rpms increased and decreased rapidly. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 96,411.
We were doing normal driving around town when the check engine light came on and the vehicle started running very rough. we were able to drive slowly and get the vehicle home. the engine started making a knocking sound. we took the car to a chevrolet dealer to be looked at. the dealer said the timing chain and pistons were out and they recommended replacing the motor. they said they had seen this before on the traverse and wouldn't know for sure until they took the engine apart but that was what the diagnostics were showing. we towed the car to another shop to get a second opinion. they also stated the pistons and bearings were bad, the timing belt was bad and they would know more if they took it apart. they also recommended replacing the motor because of the extent of the damage. we replaced the engine. the vehicle had 108,000 miles at the time of the engine failure.
Code p0008 and p0017 was pulled. looked online and found this - http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2010/chevrolet/traverse/engine/problem.aspx. looks like this is a major common issue. looks like chevy has had it since 2008 on that same model and they extended the warranty on 2008-2009 models but nothing since, just the issue still remains. it is a timing chain issue that has occurred in many many cases. http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2010/chevrolet/traverse/engine/problem.aspx http://www.cartruckinfo.com/mechanic/traverse-timing-chains/
Timing chain, heads, valves quit running the timing chair jumped and my car won't run now. the chev dealer said that it is a reoccurring issue in 2011 chev traverse.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving approximately 25 mph uphill, the vehicle lost traction control and acceleration. the service stabilitrack and engine power reduced warning indicators illuminated. the contact drove the vehicle home. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
The first incident happened dec 2015. driving out of town on the highway and vehicle shut completely off barley missed and oncoming 18 wheeler. took it to the dealership they informed me that chevrolet is aware of the problem. they patched the problem. today 1/27/2017 a year later the same problem. driving to work and the vehicle shuts off while driving. called the chevrolet corporate number when i was telling them what about the vehicle shutting off. chevrolet corporate customer services male was telling me what the problem may be the engine and telling what the vehicle was doing when the vehicle shut off, how the powertran lock. but they refuse to repair the vehicle telling me that i would have to pay out of pocket. why, should i have to pay out of pocket when chevrolet is aware of the problem and the dealership also informed me that chevrolet is aware of the problem put does not want to do recall on the vehicle. i was explaining the chevrolet corporate that each time this could have been a fatal car accident. but chevrolet response was sorry to hear but here is nothing we can do. *tr
A beep occurs and an error - no traction control off - service stabilitrack - engine power reduced; the vehicle has 110k miles and this have never happend before. these errors have accured when the vehicle is in motion and also right as you start it up. dealership has offed to "try to fix" the issue for the tune of $5000 however they do not know if it will actully fix the issue. so chevy what are you going to do about this?
The check engine light came on when driving on a city street going approximately 45 mph. the next day the temp gage spike to 260 in same conditions and as soon as pulling into the driveway coolant spilled into the driveway. the fan continued to run even after vehicle was turned off. added coolant to get to dealership that is 4 miles a way. halfway there engine started smoking, pulled over & coolant leaked everywhere again. needs a new water pump, thermostat, coolant fluid exchange due to leak, & transmission fluid exchange. *tr
I had contacted chevy corporate on the steering issue on my car while it was still under warranty. needless to say there were no help. i went to the dealership many times because of the steering alone. since then i have other issues with my 2011 traverse. now the car shuts while driving. it sounds like a lot of gm owners of different vehicles are having the same issue. i guess there will not be a recall until someone dies over this. some of the issues included all 4 struts were bad under 100,000 miles, rack and pinion going up, steering issues, leaking from the steering column, 3 times the ac actuator has gone up, issues with the lift gate failing, life gate one time injured my father-in-law, timing chain failing prematurely, and now the stabilitrak and traction control is going off. the vehicle shuts up while driving! my wife got stuck on a bridge and was put in danger due to this. now the traverse sits in the driveway. my wife said a warning was displayed about reducing engine power. the traverse went down to 20mpg and then shut off on a bridge. this is very unsafe and needs to be investigated.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving approximately 10 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated and the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering pump failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, the engine warning indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Takata recall i have a 2011 chevy traverse ltz with just under 75k miles. i had the throttle body replaced in october 2014 before there was a recall. today, i got out of class, picked up my children from school and went to the grocery store. this is a 2 mile trip round-trip. i was driving past the kids school straight ahead on city streets doing about 15 mph, just a few blocks from our house, the warning lights began to beep and the dic had several messages. "engine hot a/c off" "engine power is reduced" and "engine overheated idle engine". it became very difficult to handle the truck. the high in chicago today was 60 degrees and i only made the one trip mentioned above. i plan on taking it to the dealer tomorrow but i want to know if this is a problem people are having. *tr
Timing chains worn out
Engine light came on and had (3) different codes as sensors that has gone bad. took to dealer were they said it was my timing chain has stretch after 90,000 miles. if their chains are stretching at 90,000 miles is an issue. i'm lucking the vehicle was idle and the chains did not snap.
2011 chevrolet traverse rack and pinion leak and timing belt light came on. car is well maintained, driven easy and has only 93000 miles on it. gm says it is not covered...
My suv simply cut off in the middle of the street. the engine light came on and i heard a loud noise, then it cut off. it had to be pushed off the street and towed. had this happened 1 hour earlier when i was on i 85 going about 75 mph, it is very possible that i would not be here right now.
I just bought the car a week ago and now the service air bags light came on. also the timing chain is making a weird noise. i took it to the mechanic and sure enough there is something wrong with air bags and timing chain
My 2011 chevy traverse had the check engine light go on at just under 40,000 miles on error p0017. a cam shaft sensor was replaced only to have the light emit again 2 weeks later. now the car is reading 2 codes. one is still the p0017 and now a p0008. the timing chain is a well known issue with this engine and gm still hasn't issued a recall. there are people with complaints that are over 2 years old. the cars run extremely rough while driving, use excessive gas and have been known to completely shut off while driving. this needs to be recalled on these engines.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving 80 mph, the headlights and all the instrument panel lighting turned off without warning. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle, and was able to drive back home only with the high beam lights. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (rydell chevrolet, 18600 devonshire st, northridge, ca 91324) where it was diagnosed that the headlights needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact also stated that when driving on a rainy day at 15 mph, the headlights turned off and all the instrument panel lights turned off without warning. the failure caused the contact to crash into another vehicle that was parked on the side of the road. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlights needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred several other times even after the vehicle was repaired. also, while driving 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact pulled over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to the same dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic (ultimate connections, 9517 1/2 sepulveda blvd, north hills, ca 91343) where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft, oil pump, and engine mounts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-222-1020 and stated that they would replace the vehicle; however, the contact did not hear back. case number: 8-3184289974 was provided. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.

My car had started making a noise in the front before i could get it to the shop that i take it to i was going to get my daughter had my son neice and nephew was going down the road and the dash flashed low engine power lost the breaks and could not steer the car. i later found out that it was the timing chains. after research and talking with chevy they refused to do anything although there has been multiple complaints putting people in danger and they will not do anything. they said with me going to a 3rd party to have the car worked on that they wouldn't touch mine. my car has been well maintained i had just had this car over a year when it started this. i owe 17k still on this car and not able to drive it. this is a major problem in several models and chevy is not wanting to pay for their mistake, i have also had this looked at by chevy they tried saying that there was no oil in the car but it was changed and had been sitting for about 4 months. a single mom paying 400 a month on a vehicle that is not my fault that it is messed up. i will never have another chevy again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. when the vehicle was started, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.
My car has 52,000 and took it to the dealer and they tell me the timing chains need to be replaced. reason is because of your oil change indicator causes you to burn to much oil and your running you car on low oil levels. even though the car lets you go 5,000 miles before an oil change, you still should check your oil levels once a month because you are burning oil. how are we suppose to know that. because i follow the oil life indicator i now am stuck with a $3200 repair bill. chevy even has a special technical bulletin associated with my engine for the problem that extends warranty coverage to 10 years / 120,000 miles but my vin number doesn't qualify.
Takata recall i keep getting this code p0017 i took it to the dealer they told me it was a crarkshrt value cost me 395.00 to get it fix the engine was on and the dealer said this would fix it and the engine light will go off i said ok .i get my car back leave the dealer get to the corner and the engine light comes back on i go back to the dealer and tell him the engine light is back on and he takes another look at my truck and say u need a timing chian and to replace it will be 3000 i was like o my god i don't have that kind of money this is just not fair i got this truck used in 2014 and now i need a timing chain i need some help .
I keep getting this code p0017 took it to the shop and got the camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor b fixed and engine light came back on timing chain is not out the truck is still working .there needs to be a recall on this.can u help me .
My check engine light came on at 95000 miles code pooo8. i took the car to the dealer and they said it needed trimming chains. my guys told me it might be covered but after checking my bin it was not covered. he told me it was a problem with with these motors but my vin was not included in the recall and it would be 2500 dollars to fix a four year old car. gm would not do anything to help me.
In january 2016, my vehicle started having stability track issues. it got so bad i had the car sit up for a month then called a mechanic out to diagnosis the car. they sent me to the chevy dealership and they fixed something within the steering, but that did not stop my stabilitrak from malfunctioning. while driving the stabilitrak light turns on and says it needs servicing. then it makes the engine slow down and it starts stalling so we have to pull over and turn the car off and turn it back on for it to do the same thing again within minutes. if the cruise control is on it turns it off starts to stall and puts my family and i in danger, i just thank god we've been able to alleviate major accidents. it's been one minor accident but because we were already going slow it didn't affect either car, so we let it go especially because our vehicle was at fault not the people behind us.

December 2015 drove the 2011 traverse to the grocery store. after parking the cooling fan was on after engine turned off. very loud fan noise had me concerned. after driving home i notice no fan noise so i felt it was an isolated incident considering it is cool winter weather outside. next a.m. we went to church approx 7 mile trip and fan was running when we turned off car again and saw puff of steam or smoke coming out from front of hood. reasoned it was morning fog? or evaporating water! on the way to do errands 2 days later engine was running about 260* on gauge on dash. fan came on when i parked and ran very loudly. i went straight to dealership which is across the street and met chevy service rep. he said it was just the car reacting to run the defrost mode on the ac system and sent me on my way. before i reached our home the temp gauge was at 260* or higher because it was on the highest point on gauge. returned the next day to dealership as car had now overheated again, no fan coming on at all, and service writer said turn it off before it does damage. wow! left car and was called the next a.m, with diagnosis as bad water pump covered by recall. work was done and then i was informed the rack amd pinion assembly was leaking and needs to be replaced and the engine mount is broken. i am sure the leak on the rack and pinion is due to overheating and extra pressure on the gaskets. no leaks ever noticed before this visit during multipoint inspection performed by dealer on 9/10/15. area of fluid is fresh on rack area. estimate at $1745.00. i'm sure this recall will be happening soon. i just received the november 2015 recall on faulty throttle position sensor repair. i can only hope the recall for the steering system leak and failures will come soon. . fyi we have owned 30 chevrolet cars and we have never had anything like this happen or the amount of recalls occur
