I have a 2010 traverse around 40,000 miles the steering started locking up when tuning at a low speed, especially in parking lots, etc. sometimes i even have to try and back up and turn with all my might to get the car to turn in parking spots. this started out as a couple times a day not it is almost every turn i make. this is very dangerous and has almost caused me to have a wreck several times. i have researched and there are way to many complaints for this same type of problem. chevrolet must make a recall and fix this problem before someone is seriously injured. please help us!!! *tr

Steering wheel will become very stiff or freeze up when making a turn. this has happened many, many times creating a very dangerous situation. this type of problem should not occur this quickly, if ever. *tr

Started with a whining noise at low speed approx 3 years ago and then slowley started tightening at low speed then ultimatly giving out completely. the tightening was a frightening thing as you never knew when it was going to do it and you had to be prepared for it to other wise you would have hit another car or person.

At low speed i was unable to steer clear of an obstacle because the steering wheel became very difficult to turn, almost to the point of locking. i had to force the steering wheel with both hands to have it move at all. the lockup caused loss of steering and i struck another object. the problem comes and goes and now is becoming more and more prevalent. doesn't seem to be any consistent pattern, hot, cold, short drive, long drive, etc. problem occurs while turning in both the left and right direction. at times i get the feeling that it happens while applying the brake. *tr

Vehicle loses power steering assist at low vehicle and engine speed, such as pulling into parking space or driveway. occurs infrequently and without warning. local dealer looked at it and cannot replicate problem. is safety issue as an unsuspecting driver could lose control and hit another vehicle or person. *tt

When my 2010 chevy traverse was approximately 2 years old, became increasing difficult to steer. took to chevy dealer was told that it was known issue and that chevy said to replace power steering fluid. after that was completed, it was still hard to steer, dealer said to wait a few weeks to work it in! became worse and worse. power steering just not working. difficult to park vehicle and dangerous as if you need to quickly turn could be almost impossible. chevy dealer said needs new power steering pump, over $2000 repair. finally got vehicle repaired in 2013 elsewhere at a local mechanic for approximately $1300. chevy needs to man up and recall this before disaster strikes and also reimburse those of us who shelled out big bucks for repairs. *tr

I purchased this vehicle as a gm certified used vehicle in late december 2010. nov26'11 @ 37,395 miles the front brake pads were replaced and the front brake rotors were resurfaced. in may 2012, i was rear ended at stop light and a couple of days later, i started experiencing shaking when applying the brakes and was told it was a maintenance issue when taken in for repair. jun15'12 the front brake rotors were replaced. nov30'12 vehicle taken in for service once more with same complaint of shaking when applying brakes or when coasting - front disc brake pads were replaced and front brake rotors were resurfaced. it is now may'13 (52k mi) and i am experiencing the same issues once more, however the shaking is much worse to the point it feels as if the front wheels will come off while braking. i contacted dealer to get service history, and found that this issue was present before i purchased the car. *tr

Lost power steering, took vehicle to dealer for repair but to this day it is still occurring this problem is so dangerous that i can't see how gm wouldn't recall to repair so i've been waiting because of the expense associated. it's just a matter of time before someone is killed from this nationwide problem. *tr

Vehicle has always had a rubbing noise coming from the steering column. i have complained multiple times over the 4 years that i have owned the vehicle. dealer has made minor adjustments to the base of the column and also changed the steering gear. the problem has come back with increasing effort to steer the car. now the dealership states the car is not under warranty and 12 months have elapsed since the replacement. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that while attempting to make a turn at an unknown speed, the steering wheel became stiff and difficult to turn. there was also an unusual grinding noise in the steering wheel. the dealer replaced the power steering pump yet the noise remained in the steering wheel. the dealer informed her that the entire steering column and wheel gear failed and would also need to be replaced. the vehicle was being repaired by the dealer when the complaint was filed. the manufacturer advised the contact that they would confirm with the dealer that the correct repair was being made to the vehicle. the current mileage was approximately 6,700 and the failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

When turning from left to right steering became difficult and the rack and pinion was making a roaring sound. sales auto cherv dealer fix the problem. i am concern that the rack and pinion might start leaking and cause me to have an accident. this should be a major concern of general motors. after reading the incident reports, this must be happening to all of the traverses. some owners have no clue. after three months being the chevrolet traverse owner this happen and i have had to have it checked each time i go for service. please have general motors to look into this issue regarding the steering of the front rack and pinion. chevrolet owner *tr

I purchased our 2010 traverse new in september of 2009. we have experienced the power steering failure and replacement 3 times. the power steering gear was replaced at 9500 miles, at 35,000 miles, and now it is out again at 48,000 miles. i have a check engine light that won't go off, now they are telling me my timing chain needs replaced based on the codes detected from the computer. i have tried to get gm, and or a local dealer to work with me on these on going issues, and they could care less. *tr
