Recently reported STEERING problems on 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

After some major maintenance work summer of 2018, car began to show more work needed. summer of 2019 while driving on flat city road, power steering became difficult to turn & control curves and, check engine light came on. parked the car until able to repair. mechanic repaired power steering module car seemed ok. after about 2-3 weeks, check engine light & power steering problems again , now engine power reduced while driving w/stabilitrak warning & back up cam sometimes works. whle driving , hard to turn on curves, corners and at appropriate posted speeds bc engine slows on its own and wont give enough power for flats or hills. heating takes much longer to warm cabin and window button sometimes wont work.

Stabilitrak continues to pop up affecting sed etc i have already spent over $2000 replacing parts and it continues

Tried to call nhtsa number for assistance. it is disconnected. need to update complaint number 11205680. date occurred is inaccurate and want it to be accurate if questioned by representative. accidentally put april 19th as timing chain problem date. it was actually april 25th. please update.

Power steering stop working while driving vehicle. after it started happening i read online that alot of customers been having same iasue.

2010 chevrolet traverse 130k miles(told it is in kil.) 2nd owner. all oil changes and services done. 2 major issues. suv made loud noise and lost all control of steering and other functions and car shut down while on a freeway, going high speeds, while traveling with 3 children. almost hit from behind by 2 cars. was told by gm service center that the timing chain fell off/mechanical failure due to skipping. other components damaged and all needs to be replaced. does not seem right for the timing chain to fall off. seems to be a mechanical defect, not normal wear and tear. called gm cs several times to explain recent issues and worry of safety and reliability due to multiple repeated timing chain failures on same vehicals with same owners on 2010 and newer traverse. told by cs no warranty no recall so can't help. service manager requested assistance from gm for repairs and it was denied. i called gm again, was told they would communicate with service center and call me back later this week. prior the power steering failed twice within months. repaired power steering twice as well as power steering rack. first failure we almost crashed while on a circular icy on ramp to freeway with 3 children because of sudden loss of control. called gm about possible defect and concerns for safety. told no warrant no recall. recently found out there is a special payout for issues. was told we could be reimbursed. possible underlaying undetected defects to timing chain and power steering need to be addressed before fatal crashes occur.

Just bought 2010 traverse w/204xxx miles. power steering pump started leaking at 205xxx. vehicle was operating fine. no leaks, no noises or vibrations or anything. drive 15 miles from home 1 day and after exiting highway, i noticed stiff steering and whining/groaning when turning steering wheel. problem came on so quickly. vehicle didn't want to turn and almost went into the ditch while i was attempting to make a turn. i quickly pulled over and checked under hood and under vehicle and noticed i was suddenly leaking steering fluid very quickly from pump. took to local mechanic and was told i have a bad steering pump. they recommended i report this issue as they noticed that this pump had been replaced before and there have been many issues relating to my model year and similar models regarding faulty steering systems. upon my research, i have seen numerous blogs and posts from other owners verifying this issue. mileage on other models was 8xxx and up. with kids in my vehicle all the time, this makes me very nervous about current safety regulations and recalls. this is a major safety issue and i seem to be among numerous owners having this issue regardless of vehicle mileage

I have antifreeze in the engine it has been leaking fluid. i took it to a shop and they told me the antifreeze is in the engine and i needed a new engine. i also put a power steering pump in because the car was having issues turning two years into me having the suv. i bought the suv in 2015. it has been ine issue after another.

Drivers side 2nd row seat belt does not always stay latched. at 100,000 mi power steering pump went, month later lost control of steering, which turned out to be the rack. 15 months later the seals in the rack have blown out again. this is an expensive safety issue! the dealer did not see an issue as he listed 3 other makes that have the same problem. at $1400 per repair this should be a recall to keep my family safe! also informed one front strut has no oil and the other is leaking. my chevrolet traverse is a money pit. it is an automatic transmission that on an incline will continue to coast backwards until you either break or give it gas, this is from date of purchase.

Vehicle was on the highway when i got off the exit the car started making a weird noise . i tried making a right and the car jerked and almost flipped over it's the third time it does this . this is a huge safety concern. i tried fixing the issue all three times and it keeps happening .

Steering and suspension tightens so that it is unable to maintain vehicle. caused a near crash of vehicle

Loss of power steering happens on two occasions. 1. when at a stop and attempting to make a turn. 2. when driving at a low speed and attempting to make a turn.

2010 chevy traverse lost power steering while being driven by son. initial failure occurred at street speeds. the car could be steered without power but it was difficult at low speeds. dealer was informed of sounds when the vehicle had less than 100,000 miles but nothing was done. the car currently has 133,000 miles (2-3 years after sounds reported to dealer).

Steering becomes difficult from time to time. more often when reversing or parallel parking

I took my car to the dearler in waldorf maryland when i went to pick up my car i noticed the front end was down, i drove like i was on a tractor. it was not this way when i dropped it off. i have 3 different people that can vouch for this. the dealer ship nor gm will give me an answer. the asst ser mgt said if the mechanic failed to say something he apologized . when on the phone with gm the dealer ship would not talk to me on the phone for an explaintion but said we did nothing to your car but would not ralk on the phone only proving to be hiding something of the truth.

There have been so many things wrong with car since we bought brand new in 2010 from the complete fuel system replaced to 3 entire brakes replaced, to transmission slipping, to tracktion stilbility control lights failing, to power steering pump , to faulty control box issues, replacement of window shield wiper motor, air conditioning/heating module. most of this under warranity or not covered still at all in first 4 years of owning this car. its literally a pile of junk. so many safety issues that gm wont list as a recall. people have been killed but still fail do anything. the dealer ship here in waldorf md, to conceal what they did lately to my car in damaging the front shocks and struts wouldnt even get on the phone with a conference call with me instead refused to talk to me and also ban me from the dealership which leads to more suspicion that they are hiding the truth that they did something to damage my car. this is the only dealer in town too. this isn't the first complaint. dont buy this car. nothing but problems, a lemon.

Check engine light displays then engine power reduced warning comes on, causing the vehicle to slow at any time (very dangerous when on the freeway). the throttle needle and car shakes and car will cut off and stall to turn on again.

Power steering stopped working while parking at low speed. took the car to a chevy dealer and they couldn't find anything diagnostically wrong with it. very disconcerting.

Power steering and timing chain failed in vehicle at 74k miles. there are several complaints regarding the same issues from other owners of this vehicle. general motors has not accepted responsibility for this issue which has been widely reported. while in motion on november 4, 2017, our vehicle became difficult to maneuver eventually shutting off. upon trying to restart the vehicle we heard a grinding sound. we immediately pushed the vehicle to a near by reputable repair shop. upon their evaluation it was determined the timing chain was faulty and needed to be replaced. we contacted general motors to inform them of the issue, they responded by having us to tow our vehicle to don brown chevrolet in saint louis missouri. general motors asked us to authorize don brown to "break down" the vehicle in which we agreed. we were then informed because of a cost analysis being performed by general motors and don brown, a break down of the vehicle was not necessary and nothing would be done by the manufacturer to repair the power steering or timing chain. it is widely reported old timing chains were installed in 2009-2011 chevy traverse which has led to several engine failures and inoperable vehicles of consumers across the country. it is irresponsible for general motors to have not issued a recall on these vehicles with timing chains that stretch and cause engine damage. general motors has placed a hardship on families when they refuse to cover the very expensive cost of these repairs. we purchased our vehicle less than 2 years ago from a chevy dealer and to have it to become impossible to steer and shut off in traffic is very dangerous and needs to be investigated. general motors has not offered any relief with an issue known to them.being out of warranty and not purchasing an extended warranty should exclude defects as in the ones stated in this complaint.

Traveling aprox 55mph. loss of steering and braking power. vehicle ended up in a ditch and now no longer running. accident claim made with geico.

Everytime when the steering wheel is turned, it makes a grinding noise. it keeps getting worse. even when the steering wheel is barely turned.

After taking my vehicle in to have my oil replaced at the dealership, as i was leaving i began to experience trouble turning the steering wheel. went to another dealership to have my vehicle looked at in route home, and was told the power steering pump and the wheel (pulley) may need to be replaced but to wait because they have over 80 2010 traverse owners with the identical problem and gm is aware of this so lets hope soon this will be recalled to have fixed at no cost to me. it's been over two weeks and i have yet to read or hear about this issue being recalled for service repairs. i can't turn left or right at slow speeds or when parking without placing a hard strain on my back trying to turn the steering wheel. please gm do something about this serious vehicle safety issue soon!! i can't even drive on the highway of fear this will cause me to crash and it is my only reliable transportation.

The steering rack on this vehicle went making it impossible to steer. this has been the case in many of these vehicles of this year. prior years of this make and model have been recalled for the same issue but as of yet the 2010 has not. they replaced my steering pump and told me the rack was gone and would be 1700 to replace. the car cannot be driven as it is unsafe. the timing chain is also gone which is another issue with this make and model that chevrolet is not dealing with. although this does not render the vehicle unsafe it is overall a very badly designed vehicle. my major issue is the safety and read many many complaints on this make and model. i can no longer use the vehicle as it is unsafe to drive and a serious financial hardship. i bought this car in good faith according to the safety rating to transport my grandchildren and friends and it is now unsafe and unable to be driven. i am hoping for a recall of this vehicle as i have read that i am not the only one dealing with this situation. thank you. Chevrolet traverse assisted power steering intermittently i will lose power steering while making low speed turns. even though a 2010 traverse is on the 14329a recall, my vin isn't on the recall.

At low speeds turning left or right the steering locks up and is difficult to turn. cannot always make a turn as expected and must make wide turn into on-coming traffic but usually able to stop in time. happens randomly. has been happening since we bought the car @ 1 year.

Having problem with my steering wheel on my 2010 traverse. every time i turn especially when i'm trying to park the steering wheel is very hard to turn like if the vehicle had no steering fluid. it's problem that lots of owner with the same model have and i think gm should make this a recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet traverse. on several occasions, while driving low speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to phillips chevrolet (9700 w lincoln hwy, frankfort, il 60423 (815) 469-2323) for a routine service check. the technician did not locate any diagnostic codes and the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000. ...updated 11/15/17 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. *js

At slow speed attempting to turn the steering get so stiff you need two hand to turn the steering wheel. most time notice the problem at 5-10 mph. turning both right and left into a parking space or from a stop to turn onto a street.

Tl* the contact's mother owns a 2010 chevrolet traverse. while the contact's mother was driving 40 mph, the steering wheel became extremely loose and the vehicle made a squealing sound. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

After driving the vehicle at low speeds noticed whining noise and hard to turn. after inspection by auto shop they stated the suv had a leak in the power steering rack and it needed to be replaced. vehicle has less then 55,000 miles with no other issues.

Our 2010 chevrolet traverse will lose power steering when making hard turns and/or turning at low speeds. the vehicle has been in motion nearly every time when this happens. we have lost all power steering when turning even on five lane highways, crossing very busy highways. we have never experienced this with a vehicle before this one. we are reporting it today, but we have experienced this sudden loss of power steering several times with our traverse. this is a safety issue, and general motors needs to do something about it.

Under 35mph, the steering gets very difficult, making the car very difficult to control. it happens frequently, in parking lots, exiting and entering lots. and you never know when, until you are mid-turn, causing you to use extreme effort to maneuver. it made me very fearful and a bit panicked that i would not be able to prevent an accident, if one were pending. it has been increasingly difficult and more frequent since the date listed below

I was informed that my steering system is failing in multiple parts. this was no surprise to the mechanic who told me this is a common occurrence in these vehicles. not only is this a costly repair but it can also become a hazardous condition due to loss of power steering.

The power steering will go out intermediately while driving on turns. the power steering has been doing this since i purchased the vechile but put today's date as the date of issue.

Car steering failure at stopped or low speed (10 mph) turns. no issue with turn while at high or cruising speeds. occurs on both left and right turns.

There is a steering warranty on this vehicle for default in steering up to 150,000 miles. i've owned my car little over a year and it wasn't until it broke and i went through the process of getting it fixed that i became aware of the warranty. i'm now 6000 miles over and have no vehicle. i realize i'm over the mileage a little but i don't understand why this wasn't a full recall for safety reasons in the first place!however i feel chevrolet should help cover a decent portion of the repair. is there anything thing you can do to help. it's a very expensive process. and very dangerous for everyone on the road. it about slung me into a dump truck while taking my kids to school one morning and then would hardly turn at all even in a slight curve.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet traverse. while driving various speeds, the power steering malfunctioned and the vehicle became difficult to steer without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 169,539.

When you turn a corner, park in a parking spot, back up the power steering goes out. anytime you turn the wheel the power steering goes out. it will cost over $2,000.00 to fix this issue. i have never had a vehicle lose power steering when you turn the wheel. i do not believe my vehicle is an isolated incident.

Steering is stiff and very hard to turn at low speed or stopped.

Power steering failure at low speeds, around corners, while parking, intermitent.

Eps system is defective no power steering at low speed or when engine is idling cannot turn car at low speed makes whining noise at high speed.

Power steering fails when attempting to turn at slow speeds (parking etc).

Power steering suddenly goes out at low speeds, when coasting, very hard to turn from a stopped position until you start going, slowing down for curves or turns it goes out as well, all on normal paved roads. it is nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel which when going 45 mph and you take your foot off the gas to coast around a curve, the steering wheel becomes so stiff i veared into the other lane of oncoming traffic just fighting the steering wheel. hitting the brakes made it even worse. extremely dangerous!!

When turning left of right at a low rate of speed the power steering fails for a short period of time, resulting in the vehicle not negotiating the turn correctly. just last week i was turning left at a stop light trying to steer into the inside lane; however, the steering will would not turn as required - resulting in my car traveling into the outside lane. this is a major issue that could result in an accident. i noticed that several other owners are experiencing similar issues and would like it to be investigated further.

Power steering gives out when going slow and turning. like turning into a parking space, or turning corners. deal says the power steering rack is leaking on both sides. the car has 79000 miles

Steering goes in and out at low speeds. intermittently becomes very hard/almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. it is most pronounced when turning into or out of a parking space but will also sometimes occur when pulling out from a stop sign into traffic and when turning onto other streets.

Power steering has become difficult to steer when trying to park or leave parking lot. the car is in the shop now for a > $1500 repair. replace both rack & pinion and power steering pump.

At low speeds 5-20 mph power steering is not working/very hard to turn left or right! very dangerous situation for anyone who owns a traverse!!!!

Steering becomes very difficult turning at low speeds parking merging into traffic or navigating a turn this is an extremely dangerous occurrence that can cause serious accidents and bodily harm as well as serious physical damage to property. this has occurred on many occasions taking turns while in traffic at low speed entering a parking space. i love the vehicle itself and i am very disappointed after seeing thousands of complaints posted that chevy has not stepped up to the plate to address this issue . this is a major safety concern! the dealers don't even know exactly what the issue is. they are going from recommending replacing the transmission to rack to steering pumps etc. let's not wait until lives are lost over this as we have seen in the past! something should be done immediately to rectify this problem. if multiple service bulletins have been issued then you are aware there is a problem. someone please do the right thing!

When driving at slower rates of speed i keep loosing power steering. especially when stopped trying to make a turn or trying to park in parking lots. very frustrating.
