Problems with 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 61 503 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Fuel gauge does not work properly and fluctuates between being empty or being full. must use trip odometer to monitor miles in order not to run out of gas. originally when problem started, fuel gauge would read empty after filling up tank and then after approximately 25-30 miles of driving gauge would read as being full. now gauge just constantly fluctuates between empty or full.

I am the owner of a 2006 chevy trailblazer 4wd. my gas gauge has been bouncing around from empty to full and back down. recently my car stalled out on the highway! i was able to maneuver my car into a safe location. this is definitely a safety issue!! i was told that by the gentlemen at my local chevy dealership that this is "a common problem" with this car and that my fuel sensor isn't reading. the fuel tank needs to be dropped and that i would have to fork out the $900 to make this repair. it seems to me that if this is such a known issue and a clear safety issue that you the nhtsa would help to insure the publics safety by mandating a recall for this part. please also refer to this thread: http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3d/p24 to view over 500 complaints! i will assure you that when this does cause a major accident, if it hasn't already, there will definitely be litigation to follow. i can no longer trust my fuel reading and have to reset my tripometer and only drive 250 miles before i fuel up again. please!! something has to be done!!!!! *tr

The truck fuel sensor stopped working. the fuel gauge would show that the tank was empty even though it was full. the empty sensor light stays on constantly and occasionally, the check engine light would come on due to the empty tank indicator. *tr

We own a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the driver added fuel to the tank; however, the gas gauge indicated that it was empty. the driver turned the vehicle off and back on to see if the gauge would reset; to no avail. the following day the gas gauge did indicate that the fuel tank was full; yet, while driving approximately 25 mph, the gauge slowly began to move up and down but never indicating that the tank was full. since the fuel gage has malfunctioned, the contact is unsure of how much fuel was in the tank. the engine shut off a month ago because the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge did not indicate that. the driver did contact a mechanic who stated that they needed to replace the fuel pump. a mechanic stated that the failure was common for trailblazers and the it would cost between $600-$1200. to repair the vehicle. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage is approx. 76,000. *tr

2006 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge does not accurately show correct level. when fuel tank is filled it shows empty, then constantly shows different levels or empty. the only way to know about how much fuel is in the tank is by tracking mileage and that is not always accurate. this can be dangerous because you never know how much fuel you have and could potentially run out of fuel in remote or dangerous areas. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contac was refueling the vehicle when the fuel gauge reading began to fluctuate between empty and full. the low level fuel warning was also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that the fuel system needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. there was an investigation open under nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) that could have been be related to the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Gas gauge malfunction. tank reads empty after filling up. first happened in jan 2011. filled up and gauge started showing wrong information. a couple months after it always showed empty. must set mileage to gauge how much gas is in tank. *tr

While traveling down a town road at 40 mph, my trailblazer stalled in traffic. the vehicle would not start. the gas gauge was on 1/4 of a tank. we pushed the trailblazer into a parking lot. we discovered that there was no gas in the tank. after putting in 3 gallons of gas it started. since then everytime we fill up the tank, it reads empty and the light on the dash is lit with the engine symble. after about 5 gallons are used, it will work with no light eratically. we never know how much gas is in the tank with the gauge. we have run out of gas twice since then with autos hitting their brakes suddenly(not very happy).

The problem originated around the 50000 miles on the odometer. the fuel gauge would bounce back between full and empty, then it stopped working all together. on several occasions i ran out of gas, fortunately i was in a safe area, but i can only imagine if i had been on the freeway or in the middle of a busy intersection. i have researched the problem on line and this is a common problem with this particular model. *tr

Gas gauge fails after filling tank. will start reading correctly after a couple of trips with vehicle and when gas usage gets to about 8 gallons used, gage will read empty again and check engine light comes on because it thinks it is out of gas. *tr

Gas gauge began to give inaccurate readings until it finally failed and showed only empty had to replace level sensor and fuel seal in gas tank ttl cost 569.05. *tr

My 2006 trailblazer gas gauge has failed. when filled the gauge will show full then gradually fall to empty. it now shows empty after fill-up. i now have to rely on mileage tracking on my mileage odometer trip gauge so not to run out of gas. i have been told the fuel sensor(s) have failed and that a investigation to recall is in effect. *tr

2006 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge malfunction. need recall on this problem. several people online have same problem. very unsafe form daughter and granddaughter should they run out of gas. would like to see this fixed by the company. *tr

2006 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge malfunction - indicator reads 0 or fluctuates when tank is full per internet research - common failure that should not occur in late model vehicle with < 50,000 miles safety hazard for someone that might run out of fuel due to inaccurate fuel level reading. *tr

About 3 months ago after filling the gas tank on my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer the gauge began to drop to empty and "dance" at a nearly empty level for a few minutes. the problem appeared to correct itself, then a few weeks and a couple of "dances" later the gauge read empty and the fuel light was permanently on. the problem still persists today. *tr

2006 chevy trailblazer lt - 63,000 miles. fuel gauge goes to empty upon filling tank up. check engine light comes on. after about 30 miles, fuel gauge returns to normal operation and check engine light goes off. same cycle upon next fill up. *tr

Fuel sending unit is not accurate and is failing to register correctly. *tr

Normal driving and the gas gauge just malfunctioned. i ran out of gas twice because of false readings. one time has on a four lane highway during rush hour. that was extremely dangerous. nothing has been done to correct the issue. this seems to be a common problem from the 10000 posts i've seen in forums. it is a $400 fix at the local chevy dealer. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the fuel sensor gauge failed. whenever fuel was added to the vehicle the fuel gauge displayed empty causing the warning light to illuminate. the warning light indicated that the sensors were defective. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 68,000.

I have an 06 chevy trailblazer that the fuel gauge is not reading right. i have been told that i will need a new fuel sensor but to get that i will have to replace the whole fuel pump. i have done some resource online and have seen that alot of people are having the same problem. we all seem to feel that gm should do a recall for this part. *tr

Filled my gas tank on my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls 4wd. just after fill up fuel gauge now registers dead empty. searched the internet for the problem, seems like alot of people are having the same problem (fuel sensor??). my vehicle has 73,000 approx miles. i read hundreds of posts with the same exact problem. why is there no recall????!!!! *tr

I have read about many owners of the 2006 trailblazer that have had gas gauge not registering. i was hoping i would not have the same problem. no such luck! my gas gauge registered a little less than 1/2 tank when i filled up. after starting the car, the gas gauge registered empty and continues to register empty even though i had just filled up. my trailblazer has low miles, a little over 51,000, so a problem like this shouldn't be happening. i noticed that there was an investigation started in jan, 2010...when will there be a recall????? this could be a major problem if we run out of gas unknowingly. does it take someone getting killed in a rear-end collision because we have stalled on the highway, before a recall is issued??? this issue has been going on too long with no resolution.

We were midway through a 2 hour trip and stopped to fill the gas tank. upon filling it the engine light came on and stayed on, the full gas gauge suddenly dipped to empty, then climbed back to 1/2 tank, then fell back to empty and the yellow low fuel light came on. the engine light and fuel light stayed on for the remainder of the trip and the entire trip back home. since that instance the gauge has stopped registering fuel at all. once in a while, when starting the car after it has sit for a long period of time it will register fuel and then drop to empty again. i am constantly watching the gauge and trying to keep track of mileage. recently i was in the middle of a 3 lane interstate in paused traffic when the engine light came on and stayed on. this made me very nervous and i constantly watched the dash lights for fear the vehicle would stall. this is obviously a faulty part that needs to be addressed. i love the trailblazer but no longer have complete confidence in driving it. i am uncomfortable driving far from home especially with my children in the vehicle. my vehicle is low mileage for 5 year old vehicle and has been very well kept. i don't feel like i should be having this serious of an issue with it. i have always driven a gm vehicle and used to work for a gm dealer. we currently own 3 gm products but if this isn't addressed, we will think long and hard about out next purchase before we buy gm again. it shouldn't take a tragic accident or a loss of life for the company to see this is a recall issue.

Fuel gauge started moving erratically from full to empty until one day stopped moving and now sits on empty

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and as a result, she was unable to tell the level of fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel sensor and fuel pump needed to be replaced at a cost of $ 600.00. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to pay for half of the repair costs. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 108,000. updated 06/26/12 *bf the consumer stated she ran out of gas twice. updated 06/27/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the fuel gauge would display an empty reading whenever the vehicle was refueled to capacity. after refueling, the check engine light would also illuminate on the instrument panel for a few days. once a few days elapsed, the check engine light would not longer illuminate and the fuel gauge would begin displaying a reading. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was informed the fuel level indicator failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 36,000. updated 06/0611 *bf updated 06/15/11

Fuel gauge has been inaccurate since we bought it used in 2007. it would go from 1/4 tank to out of gas in less than 15 miles. ran out of gas 3 times, twice when the low fuel light was not even on. once stranded in the middle of traffic while making a left turn on a snow covered road, very dangerous. this incident report is for recent problem: after filling the tank completely with gas, the fuel light came on. even after turning it on and off, light stayed on. then the gauge fluctuated from empty to full back to empty while driving. fuel gauge is now works sporadically but never sure if it is correct. i need to track mileage between fill-ups to ensure there is gas in the tank. since we have multiple drivers in the family, this is a nerve-racking system.

Failure of accurate gas gauge reading on 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls. have read about hundreds , if not thousands of consumers having the same problem . gm says it is the fuel sending sensor malfunction. they should have a recall on this . the danger it may be posing is , not knowing how much fuel is left in tank and a possibility of losing engine power and causing a horrific auto accident. today , 11/29/2010, i filled my gas tank and the gas gauge went to empty and the light to let you know that you are running low on fuel came on. it hasn't gone off either. but the tank was full , i just filled it . please look into the matter.... *tr

Upon restart after filling fuel tank, fuel gauge drops to empty, and low fuel level warning indicator and audible warning are triggered. occasionally while driving in this condition, cel will be activated, which when read shows fuel level sensor failure. gauge will gradually float towards full, but will randomly go back to empty, reactivating the warning light and audible alarm. once a significant amount of fuel has been consumed, the needle will begin acting as if it is working, although it is not entirely accurate, however the light and alarm will no reactivate until the next fill up. this occurs at every fill up. due to the restrictive costs involved, this has not yet been corrected. symptoms first noted late fall of 2010. *tt

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer with broken fuel gauge/ fuel sensor?? it started at about 50,00 miles. i have researched this and see it is a common problem. the dealership does not wish to fix it and the warranty is expired. the cost is about 600-800.00 and seems as this should be a recall. *tr

Fuel usually reads empty. even after fill up. sometimes wanders from 1/4 to 1/2 then drops again. engine light comes on after fueling up, will go out after an hr of driving .. give or take. knowing that this many people all are having the same issues, gm should stand behind their product, step up and look after it!!!! running out of gas is not only dangerous...but does not make for happy customers or repeat business. *tr

While driving the vehicle on the highway my trailblazer ran out of gas. the fuel gauge still indicated between 1/8th to 1/4 of a tank of gas left. this left my family stranded on the side of the road for approximately 30 minutes. ever since this incident the fuel gauge readings are very sporadic and inaccurate.

At around 80,000 miles my 2006 cheverolet trailblazer started showing empty when i filled up with gas. now at about 85,000 miles it continually shows empty. have researched and found out that i will have to replace the whole fuel pump/intake and outtake which could cost around $800 at the dealership. have also found out that this is a common problem with the later model trailblazers. needs a recall!! *tr

2006 chevrolet trailblazer fuel gage light stays on after filling up gas tank with a full tank of gas. call local gm dealership, they said the sending sensor in the gas tank has gone out. searched several sites on the internet, many, many other consumers with a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer are experiencing the same issue since 2006 and beyond. gm must recall and fix this issue for free now!!!!! *tr

Fuel gauge became inoperable. does not indicate proper fuel level. subsequently failed state safety inspection. *kb

Filled 2006 trailblazer with gas. gauge then read empty. later gauge read full, then empty, then full, then empty all within 20 miles. gauge fluctuates constantly so do not know amount of gas in vehicle which will lead to stalls and rear end collisions. *tr

2006 chevy trailblazer gas gauge failure. worked erratically at first, now does not work at all. *tr

We have a newborn and 2 young children which my wife had in the car with her. 2 weeks ago she was traveling down the highway and the car stopped, engine shut off. the gas level indication showed close to 1/4 of a tank of gas. she was able to get it to the side of the road and her mother was called. she brought gas to her and they put some gas into the car....car then started normally. now the needle provides no indication to how much gas is within the tank and chevy dealer in cincinnati explained that we must purchase a new fuel level sensor. my wife was almost in an accident due to this sensor failure and only now are we hearing about a hidden recall..... *tr

Fuel gauge sensor inop. started where it took awhile to read, now it no longer read and is stock on empty. sometime causes erratic idle or stall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact noticed that the fuel gauge sender was reading inaccurately and he was unable to determine how much gasoline was actually in the vehicle. he also noticed that the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. the current mileages were 101,636 and the failure mileages were unknown.

When i fill up my gas tank in my 2006 chevy trailblazer my fuel gauge briefly shows that it is full. within minutes of driving, the fuel gauge reads empty with a warning light one. *tr

Faulty fuel gauge. started to go bad at less than 67000 miles. goes to empty when filled then fluctuates. never know how much gas you have. you are constantly looking at the tripometer to try and figure out how much gas you have. this is a traffic hazard. gm should do a recall. thousands of complaints on internet. notified gm they would not do anything. *tr

Fuel gauge on 2006 trailblazer spontaneously has failed. without warning approximately 2 weeks ago after filling up my fuel tank the gas gauge still reads empty. the consequences of this failure is without setting my trip mileage i have no idea how much gas is in my vehicle, it is an unsafe guessing game, and could be doing further damage to my vehicle. the estimated cost of repair for this is approx $800.00, the vehicle is only 4 years old, but out of warranty. *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer 4-wheel drive suv and the fuel gauge started reading half full or empty when the tank was full. now, the fuel gauge simply doesn't work. i have not yet paid the expensive sum to replace the fuel gauge sending unit and am now simply relying on odometer mileage to know when to fuel. *tr

My gas gauge began failing several months ago. could not afford to get fixed. ran out of gas 2x. using tax retur money for repair. cost is $900!!!

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after dispensing fuel into the fuel tank, the fuel gauge would display an inaccurate reading. the failure would continue until the fuel tank capacity level reached a quarter of a tank. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the failure was contributed to the fuel sender assembly. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000. updated 01/14/11*lj

I have a 2006 trailblazer the gas gauge quit working. it is an expensive fix. i have read many complaints of this and i am shocked there has not been a recall. *kb

Gas gauge does not work properly seen where several people are having same problem. i think it should be a recall. *tt

2006 chevrolet trailblazer fuel quantity indicator unreliable. after refueling, fuel quantity indicates empty, fuel low light is illuminated and "check engine" warning present -- obds decodes as fuel sending problem. gauge intermittently starts working normally after fuel level is reduced by an estimated 3-4 gallons and check engine light subsequently clears as fault history cycles. however, gauge must be assumed to be unreliable. internet search shows this has become an increasingly frequent occurrence for 2005-2006 model years. [this report supports nhtsa action number : dp10001 ]. *tr

For the last few months my fuel gauge on my 2006 chevy trailblazer has been acting crazy, reading empty regardless of actual fuel level. the check engine light now is on, reading code p0463 for high fuel input so i will fail my nys inspection. *tr
