Faulty fuel gauge / fuel sending unit / fuel reading / fuel pump. i have had to have my fuel pump replaced three times now due to faulty fuel sending units. this is a major problem because my truck now shows that i am always on empty and can be a huge hazard and life endangerment. i don't want to be going down a highway at 70 mph and have my truck stall. i have replaced this unit twice already and i am now with a faulty one again. all original manufacturer equipment. no after market replacements. it seems that new manufacturer units will work for about 10,000 - 30,000 miles and then fail. this is an issue that i have seen reported hundreds of times by gm owners of trailblazers and similar makes. my problem is with a 2006 chevy trailblazer v6 ls model with 126,000 miles. *tr
Gas tank was on empty, went to gas station to fill up, gas gauge read full when i pulled away, suddenly dipped to empty. it would then periodically switch between empty and full. same thing happens every time i fill it up [about 3 more times now]. *tr
Fuel gauge malfunction 2006 chevy trailblazer the gauge is very misleading causing near misses when you run out of fuel and not to leave out steering and braking problems when the engine stops this only effects certain models and should be recalled by g.m. they are trying to blame it on bad fuel i'm not buying the reason this is happening, if it were to be the fuel then more people would have the same issue. *tr
Gas gauge in 2006 trailblazer is erratic and inaccurate. when filled, the gauge goes to empty prompting a chime for low fuel. we never know how much fuel is left. *tr
I own a 2006 chevy trailblazer with what i believe to be a faulty gas gauge. i was driving home last night and the gas light came on (which signals that fuel is needed) and within 5 minutes the car had stalled on a major highway (route 81). i "googled" trailblazer and gas gauge and i saw the that the nhtsa has opened a probe of this issue, as it may be widespread. therefore, i am submitting my issue so that the number can be properly tracked in the event a recall is opened. *tr
About 4-5 months ago my fuel sensor started saying that it was empty when i just filled and the engine light would come. after about 50 miles or so the lights would go off and seem like normal for a day or two and then the gas gauge would go back and forth. about a month ago my gas gauge quit working completely! also the neck of the gas pump needs to be replaced and that is another $300.00!! i received what i thought was a recall notice but it is actually a limited warranty stating that they would pay for 50% to get this part fixed. obviously gm is aware that this part is faulty and yet we are being forced to pay 50%!!!! they should be covering 100% of it. *tr
Fuel gauge not working when car is full of gas- until recently it worked well. a few fill-ups ago, the gauge would go up and up, but when completely full it went back to empty and lighted the check engine light. according to internet there are several thousand cases with same problem and same model year, nhtsa has almost 700 cases for this problem. this is dangerous as i can run out of gas if i loose count of the miles per tank. hopefully if it happens it wont be in an intersection. *tr
Fuel gauge goes to empty after refueling. it will remain there for awhile then gradually move up to full, then fall to mid level, and then empty again. eventually it will go to full and stay until the next fill up however, it is getting progressively longer for that to happen. *tr
Fuel level sensor has failed. fuel guage showing empty all the time. also causing "check engine light" to be illuminated all of the time. had check engine light fault read, and was told that code indicates it is because of the faulty fuel level reading, and that when inspection is due in march of 2012, if the fuel level sensor is not replaced eliminating check engine fault, the vehicle will fail nys emission test and therefore nys safety inspection.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. after refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge began to fluctuate from empty to full. the contact stated that the fuel gauge did not display the accurate amount of fuel that the vehicle contained. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostics or repairs. there was an investigation under nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) that could have been related to the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Fluctuating fuel gauge. stays at full or empty regardless of content. *tr
Although i had 1/4 tank of gas, i decided to fill my tank. when i started my car, the gas gauge showed that the tank was empty and the chime indicating that the tank is empty went off. i knew that the tank was not empty since i still had a 1/4 of tank before filling up. after driving the car a few days, the gauge eventually showed the correct amount. now every time i fill the tank, the gauge shows empty and the chime goes off. i have to check the mileage constantly so i won't run out of gas. now after a few days, the gauge will at one time show full and then a few minutes later show 1/4. the gauge is all over the place. when i notice that the mileage is getting close to what a full tank would take me, i have to make sure that i fill the tank completely so that i don't run the chance of running out gas.
Gas gauge began fluctuating then failed. needle goes between full and empty at any given time. (caused by faulty fuel level sensor/sender) i have had two other gm vehicles in the past ten years that have had their gas gauges fail. obviously a common problem with gm vehicles that they have failed to correct.
Two days before we were to leave on vacation in our 2006 trailblazer, my wife filled up the gas tank and when she got in the car it read below empty and the check engine light was on. she immediately went to a shop where she was told "it;s probably the sending unit, they go bad on trailblazers all the time". this was before a diagnostic test, and the test confirmed it. being that it is a certified used vehicle, 5 years old with 50,000 miles, we took it to the dealer. they said they could do it for $470.00 and it was not uncommon. i am 50 years old and have owned a dozen vehicles over the years, most older then this, and have never had this problem, ever, on any vehicle. since we were leaving on a vacation in two days, we felt we had better have it fixed, even though we could not afford it. i have since talked to other mechanics, and asked if there are any problems with trailblazers from 2006. every time i have been told "not really, other then the fuel sending units, which is an expensive fix". unfortunately i have experienced that firsthand. while i can't replace the things we couldn't do on our vacation due to the cost of the repair, i would sure like to know how to get my money back. and since the new one came from the dealer and is oem equipment, how long will this one last? any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. *tr
At 61000 miles, vehicle's fuel level gauge began behaving erratically. upon filling tank the gauge would read "empty". after a few days indicator would go up to 3/4 full then would drop to "empty" the next day. vehicle ran out of gas unexpectedly on interstate during rush hour where i had to coast across 3 busy lanes to the shoulder. had vehicle taken to dealer for diagnosis which returned "fuel sender" faulty. replacement estimate over $400! i declined as i am a retired senior citizen on a fixed income. will attempt to use odometer to guess fuel level.
I am filing a complaint about my 2006 chevy trailblazer 4 x 4. after filling the fuel tank up, i returned to the car and as soon as i started the car back up, the gas gauge showed empty and the low fuel light was on. i knew this was not true as i had just filled the fuel tank. the fuel gauge will sometimes show "full" when the vehicle is in park but then drops off to empty or anywhere in between as i travel. i had talked to my local gmc dealer and they said there is a know problem with the fuel sending unit in the fuel tat send the tank level information to gauge on the instrument panel. the dealer indicated a investigation has start but no recall has been issued yet. i now have to rely on the trip odometer to gauge how far i can travel on a tank of fuel. everytime i need fuel, i fill up all the way so a have good base line of my available mileage. this is really annoying issue. my concern is if the problem occurs with the fuel pump in the tank. if the fuel pump fails, i could be stranded some where or have a loss of power while operating the vehicle. this could be a huge safety issue that could cause a accident if the fuel pump fails. *tr
2006 chevy trailblazer, fuel gauge acts erratic and check engine light comes on. it happens every time i fuel up. *tr
Fuel gauge went down to zero in the tank and alarm bell sounded. tank was full at the time, then 2 days later it went back to full on the gauge. it is constantly changing. i called the dealer and they said this has been a problem on alot of trail blazers but there is no recall or free fix by gm. repairs would be anywhere from $600 to $1200. this is dangerous and i could run out of gas with no warning. this should be fixed by gm free of charge. *tr
Fuel gauge started to fluctuate about a month ago. the vehicle has approx 135k miles on it. had onstar run diagnostic and showed "high fuel sensor" error to take the car in for service...service engine light came on as well. when the tank is full, same issue as others have had, the gauge registers empty then starts to go up after several hours. to this date, the engine light goes on and off; every time put gas in registers empty to half when full. i have ran out of gas once last week on way to work, luckily i was not on interstate yet when gauge read i had almost half tank. when i took to dealer for regular oil change asked them to check it. they confirmed bad sensor and $600 repair cost to drop tank and fix issue. the part costs $45 at local auto parts store - crazy! since this is an issue that all drivers are having gm should issue the recall and fix the issue! *tr
The fuel gauge has stopped giving the correct level of gas in the tank. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gage would inaccurately display the fuel tank as empty when full to capacity. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 90,000. updated 07/08/11*lj updated 07/15/11
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after refueling the fuel tank, the fuel level gauge displayed an inaccurate reading of empty. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Inaccurate gas gauge. unexplained stalls. the gas gauge initially would show more gas than was available and later digressed to always showing empty. continuous problem. 6 stalls in which the vehicle would not start after staling. all stalls occurred in parking lost with no accidents. waiting 30 minutes to restart the vehicle. from november 2010 to present. *tr
Immediately after refueling to fill tank and starting vehicle, the fuel gauge went to full, back down to empty, then to half full. the gauge continued to flip back and forth. at each false "empty" the chime rang and yellow light appeared .the gauge continued to do this if full or close to empty. every time tank was filled the trip odometer had to be reset to zero and date and number of gallons noted. this is the only way we can track fuel consumption. we cannot trust the gauge readings at all. we have to do expressway driving to commute and have to refuel more often to keep track. we worry about safety of us and others!
Car fuel gauge failed to show accurate amount of fuel. sporadic readings
Fuel guage went down to zero in the tank and alarm bell sounded. tank was full at the time, then 2 days later it went back to full on the gauge. it is constantly changing. i called the dealer and they said there haven't been enough complaints aabout this to warrant a recall and repairs would be anywhere from $600 to $1200. this is dangerous and i could run out of gas with no warning. this should be fixed by gm free of charge.
Filled 2006 trailblazer full of gas after tank was on empty. fuel gauge wavers all over the place and eventually settles on low fuel level and continues to chime even though the tank is completely full. *tr
My 2006 chevy trailblazer's fuel gauge gives false fuel levels. when i fill it up the needle moves up a little and goes back to empty and the low fuel light comes on. i brought this vehicle when it was brand new. i've had so many problems with this vehicle from the dash indicators, radio, and now the fuel gauge. this is really dangerous because i can run out of gas while traveling and may have an accident. i've seen on the internet where a other trailblazer owners are having the same problems with their fuel sensors. feel that this part must have been defective from the factory and should be replaced by gm. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailbalzer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and would fluctuate from a reading of a full tank to an empty tank. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. the vin was unavailable.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 55 mph the contact noticed the fuel indicator light illuminated on the instrument panel and the warning sound made a noise to indicate that the vehicle was out of fuel. the contact stated prior to the fuel gauge indicating the fuel tank was empty it also indicated there was half a tank of fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated the fuel gauge needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. there was an investigation under nhtsa action number dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) which could be related to the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Starting last week when i filled up my tank, the fuel gauge will not reset, but rather goes straight to empty and the fuel light indicator light comes on. the warning light stays on the gauge reads empty. some times the gauge will read correctly, however, most times it stays at empty. after researching the problem, it appears that this is a well known problem for this specific vehicle as many people are experiencing the same issues. there does not appear to be a certain mileage this happens at based on the research, but it is definitely a problem. i have read that some people experiencing the vehicle sputtering while they were driving leading to the check engine light coming on; all this happening after fueling the vehicle and driving it. many people have gone to the dealership and gm claims that this is not a problem. i do not know what the protocol for recalling certain parts of vehicles are, but this appears to be a known problem that is being brushed under the rug. the vehicle this is happening to is a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. thank you for your time. *tr
Chevy trailblazer - gas gauge inaccurate that caused vehicle to stall on the highway. it said i had more gas than i actually had. also, the gas gauge was overall not accurate. it was one level and then a few minutes it was much different. i eventually had to have the sensor replaced at the chevy dealership. *tr
2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls 4.2l i6 4x4 98,000 miles- fuel gauge not working after fuel up. gauge shows empty when in fact the tank is full. the check engine light is also on. gauge also fluctuates from full to empty while driving. this is very hazardous as i could run out of gas merging on the highway or pulling out in traffic. i have no way of telling how much fuel that i have other than keeping track of the mileage (and that is not always accurate). after searching this topic on the internet i see that this is a very common problem. i spoke with the chevrolet dealership about this issue, and they told me that it was the fuel sending unit in the gas tank (which they did say is a common problem on this vehicle). they said it will cost around $800 to fix it. i am going to have to keep driving my vehicle the way it is because i can not come up with that money at this time... *tr
Inaccurate fuel level 2006 trailblazer. sometimes when i fill the tank the low fuel light goes on and the gauge goes to empty. other times it looks like it has about a tank and a half on the needle. some days the gauge wont work at all. i have resorted to using the trip odometer because the gauge is totally inaccurate. *tr
The fuel gauge is inaccurate. everytime i fill up my gas take it stays on e with the fuel light on. after driving maybe 60 miles or more it will re-read how much fuel is in my tank. with 3/4 tank it almost immediately just decreases down to e again and will stay there. took it to the dealership but way to expensive to repair. i have to track my miles and have noticed in online forums that i'm not the only complaint about this issue with the trailblazers and envoys. *tr
My 2006 chevy trailblazer gas gauge keeps telling me its empty when its full. it all started when i pumped gas into it i turned it on and it stood on empty. i only have 43k miles on it. i have never had this issue with any car before and after reading about how many other people have this same problem i think its unfair that gm is not accepting responsibility for this defect. i could understand if it were 1 or 2 vehicles but its a lot.....there has to be something that they could do. *tr
2006 chevrolet trailblazer. consumer states problem with brakes and traction control light illuminating. *tgw the consumer the abs would activate when making right turns. several components were replaced, but the consumer continued to experience problems. the blower resistor was replaced due to it only working on high. the engine light illuminated, the fuel sensor was not working, the heat was inoperative, there were noise/creaks coming from the steering wheel when driving slow and making turns, the power windows and heated seats stopped working, the fuel gauge was inaccurate, the 4-wheel drive switch had to replaced, the seat belt was difficult to fasten, the head lights and tail lights sockets burned out, the fan for the heater and defroster stopped working, the transmission would not down shift properly and eventually had to be replaced, the ignition switch didn't always work and the key would sometimes get stuck. *jb
The fuel gauge worked great and eventually started to read empty when there was plenty of fuel in the tank. sometimes it starts at full and slowly goes to empty. other times, it goes straight to empty without missing a beat. now it occurs all the time. have yet to repair it because i see that supposedly a recall is in the works and there should be!! with as many people that have had the problem including accidents and other extreme inconveniences, gm should definitely do something about it. *tr
In february of this year, the fuel gauge suddenly became erratic. when fuel was near empty, it would read "full" or "half full". the engine repair light would go on and off inconsistently during the same time. i thought it might be the quality of gasoline, but trying different brands did not help. within a few months, no matter how much fuel was in my tank, the gauge would read "e" for empty, with the needle never moving from "e". it is a safety hazard because i have to reset my tripometer when filling up on a new tank of gas, so i know about 250 miles, i need to fill up again. if i don't do this, i could run out of gas, cause a crash, or a fatal accident since my gauge always reads empty. i have read many blog and complaints about the fuel gauge on the 2006 trailblazer. i understand the repair and parts will be about $800.00. in august 2011, i received a letter from gm indicating that there may be a problem with my fuel sensor and that they would be willing to pay half the cost for repair, but i believe that gm should be responsible for replacing the faulty sensor at "no charge" to the owner. *tr
Over the past few months, the fuel gauge on makes false readings on a 2006 chevy trailblazer ss 6.0l. upon filling up to a full tank the gage will say 'full' however while riding over bumps or accelerating/decelerating the gauge will bounce to empty and full regardless of the actual fuel level. this has occurred for the past 20,000 miles continuously after fill up until approximately half the tank is emptied. once the gauge stops bouncing between full and empty the reading is no longer accurate. in once case i ran out of fuel while on a highway while the gauge read 1/4 tank moments prior to running out of gas and stalling out. i was told there is an electrical short occurring in the fuel sending unit and is a known problem and would require replacing the entire sending unit to fix the issue. *tr
Fuel gauge not working properly. goes up and down. never sure how much gas in the vehicle. could result in running out of gas leading to being rearended or stuck in heavy traffic. gauge gets stuck on empty at times and fuel light comes on. *tr
As with the thousands of other trailblazer, envoy and 9-7x owners my fuel level sensor quit working. it shows empty all the time and the check engine light remains on. i am a disabled american with very little income from disability and can not afford the $600+ a garage charges to repair the problem. this is a very common problem with 2005-2008 gm suv's and certainly should have been a recall by now as this problems has affected tens of thousands of trailblazer owners. this is a safety problem as the gauge will fail with no warning and can create serious hazards when a vehicle will run out of gas.*tr
In august, 2009, i filled my gas tank in my 2006 chevy trailblazer and when i got into the car, the gas gauge read empty. when i restarted the car, the fuel gauge read empty and the check engine light would turn on. i found several complaints online about the same issue, and began using the tripometer to measure the mileage, refueling at approximately 250-300 miles. unfortunately, in august, 2010, while driving on a major freeway, the car ran out of gas and i barely avoided being hit from behind. i was able to coast to the side of the road, and was helped by a friend who happened to spot me in trouble. friday, february 11, 2011: it appears that now my fuel pump has gone bad and i am unable to move fuel to the engine. the car turns over but there isn't fuel moving through the lines to keep the engine running. there are multiple complaints about the fuel sensor online about the gm models from 2004-2007. (513 as of today) gm needs to provide a recall on all vehicles with this issue, instead of charging it's customers $800.00+ to drop the gas tank and replace parts that they are well aware are defective. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated after refueling, the fuel gauge displayed a reading of a quarter of a tank of fuel. the fuel gauge had since continuously displayed an improper reading. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they advised that fuel sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 61,000. the vin was unavailable.
I have replaced the fuel gauge, fuel pump on my 2005 trailblazer after it quit working. i also have a 2006 trailblazer and my wife ran out of gas, when we filled it up, the gas gauge did the same thing as the 2005, so we have to use the odometer to know when to fill up. when i called my mechanic, he explained the situation was the same as my 2005. this is a very expensive repair. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trail blazer ls. the contact stated that the fuel gage was providing inaccurate fuel level readings. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. updated 9/27/11 *cn updated 10/07/11
My gas gauge has been fluctuating. sometimes the gauge would show empty when there was gas. other times it would show there was fuel in the tank and there wasnt. i called my chevy dealer and told them what happened. they said that they had heard of other people having this problem, but there was no recall. i was told that the repair would be very expensive because the fuel tank would have to be dropped. i was told to use my trip odometer to keep track how many miles was driven on a tank so that i wouldnt run out of gas. i work for gm and i contacted our local customer service rep. i was told to have the repair made, pay for it and maybe something could be worked out. i am filing this complaint because i heard the usnhtsa was investigating this same issue. i wanted someone to know there are more of out here with the same problem.
My trailblazer has experienced the same problem as some other ones that i have read on here. my gas gauge quit completely, at first it would read full then go down and now it stays on empty with the light on. if there are so many trailblazers having this problem why isn't there a recall and why isn't chevrolet fixing this instead of putting it on the consumer to do it. i have ran out of gas on the highway and had to pull over and was lucky that i could maneuver it over to the side of the road. what are they waiting on for some people to get killed before they do anything about it? when it dies nothing works and you are stuck where it dies. this is a serious problem which needs to be addressed by chevrolet and they need to fix the problem, they shouldn't be putting faulty things on vehicles and not own up to it. they need to own up to the problem and fix it. also i can't afford to have it fixed. i have been told by a mechanic that the fuel pump should be replaced not just the sensor. *tr
2006 chevrolet trailblazer fuel gauge not working. i understand numerous people have this same problem. safety issue because car may not work properly if gas not flowing properly. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel sensor failed and the fuel gauge would display a reading of empty even though fuel was present within the tank. as a result, the vehicle would stall on an intermittent basis. no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the fuel gauge sensor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000.
