Problems with 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 61 503 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

While driving our gas gauge went down to empty even though we had a full tank. this posed a safety hazard as we were then unable to determine how much gas we actually had. it seems the fuel gauge is faulty. this could lead to running out of gas while driving causing a potential accident. *tr

My fuel indicator has all sorts of mis-readings. examples: reads empty with low fuel light on when just filled, begins to read somewhere near 3/4 at a mileage point, (50), that it usually reads full. very annoying and distracting to driver. distracts the drivers attention to driving. dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *kb

The fuel gauge read 3/4 of a tank so we did not stop to get gas, thinking we had enough to get home. 3min later we ran out on the hwy with 4 children in the car 2 that are under the age of 2 . *tr

Actually the issue just started today and i got the letter from gm stating they installed a faulty fuel level sensor and are offering to pay 50% if we have it fixed at a chevy dealership. i looked on the internet and it sounds like a very common problem for trailblazer owners. sounds like chevy is just trying to do damage control with there 50% offer. i think its making things worse because they should issue a recall on this since they are admitting to the faulty sensor. what needs to happen for this to become a recall? thanks *tr

The gas gauge on my 2006 chevy trailblazer no longer works it started fluctuating at about 109,000 miles now i'm at about 150,000 and it hasn't worked for months now. my wife has run out of gas twice now on the interstate at 4:00 in the morning going to work with semi trucks barreling down on her not knowing why she couldn't accelerate. *kb

The fuel gauge stopped registering the correct level. it constantly shows empty and then goes erratically from empty to full. the check engine light also is on and will not go out. chevy has mailed me a letter stating they will cover 50% of the cost of repair even though they now have almost 1 million vehicles with the same issue. and they wonder why americans purchase foreign (dependable) cars! gm needs to man up and pay for the entire repair!!!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after refueling, the fuel gauge displayed a reading of empty and the no fuel indicator light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 99,000.

Gas gauge malfunctioning. will not register amount of fuel in tank. it will go up and then down to empty and the low fuel light will come on even when i know it is full. *kb

Chevrolet should be made to pay full price for the repair of the fuel sensor. why should i have to pay half for replacing a faulty product. i purchased the vehicle for it to run perfectly. since the problem we have twice been stuck on the road with no gas. trying to estimate fuel consumption for our next fill up is ridiculous. i have heard of drivers running out of gas on the highway, a very dangerous situation. *kb

After refueling vehicle, gas gauge goes to e, with low fuel warning light/buzzer going off. after travelling 30-40 miles, gas gauge goes to normal. afterwards, gauge is erratic, and you have no idea how much fuel you really have left, without knowing your fuel mileage and how many miles you have driven on a tank of gas so far. now gauge will go e, even with 1/4 tank of gas remaining. *tt

Chevrolet trailblazer 2006- gas gage- i filled up my car with gasoline two nights ago (8/30/11) and found as i went to leave for work this morning that my gas gage read i was on empty. after refilling 3 more gallons (until it was full) i found to my surprise that the gage still read empty. i have read all over this website and others that this is a huge problem. the new york times released an article stating that the national highway traffic safety administration had revealed general motors was under investigation on april 29th 2011 with the following statement ?the agency said it had received 668 complaints, including 58 in which the consumer said the vehicle stalled when it ran out of gas, even though the gauge indicated that fuel remained.? this investigation started months ago and i would like an answer as to why all of us have been paying for these repairs out of our pockets, when there is clearly an issue with the vehicle. *tr

Everytime i fill up with fuel my fuel gauge reads empty, my gas light and check engine light come on. once i drive about 50 miles and restart a time or two everything goes back to normal. it has been happening for a few months. from reading on trailvoy.com it appears to be very common problem. *tr

After filling up the gas tank, the gas gauge either stays at empty and the fuel level warning light comes on or the gauge starts jumping erratically from empty to full to anywhere in between. *tr

Gas gauge reads empty at all times. filled the tank up completely one day and the gauge read empty (even though it was still full)the following day. gauge reads empty at all times now. serious safety issue for my special needs child. *kb

My gas gauge works sometimes and sometimes it don't. i can be driving along and it will register on e, the truck seems like it is straining to move when this happens. *tt

When refueling for gas, my gauge registered empty after the tank was completely full. it continued to fluctuate registering empty, half full, etc. this has caused the check engine light to come on every time the truck is refueled. the light can be turned off when you open and reclose the gas lid. this has to be done every time the truck is refueled in order to turn the light off. as a result you never know if there is something really wrong with the engine. i am unable to tell truly how much gas in the vehicle and i have to refuel every two to three days because of the distance i travel to and from work/ doctor's appt. thank you *tr

Fuel gauge stopped reading accurately. i started monitoring my fuel by mileage because i could not afford the $1000 replacement cost. i stopped at a stop sign, tried to accelerate again, and the car died in the middle of the intersection. i was almost hit by multiple cars and i blocked traffic in all directions. *tr

Fuel gauge registers empty even after filling the tank full. have ran out of gas on the highway in the dead of winter. very dangerous. the gas gauge goes all over the place and you never know how much gas you have in. very frustrating. this should be a recall considering the number of chevy trailblazers that it has happened to. *tr

I have read thousand's of complaints about this online. i have a 2006 chevy trailblazer that needs an immediate recall to get this situation fixed. many 05-08 trailblazers have a faulty fuel indicator gauge that gives false readings on how much fuel is in the vehicle. on my specific 2006 chev trailblazer sits on empty after i completely fill the tank. it also moves around from empty, half full, almost full, then down to empty again while driving. between my spouse and myself we have ran out of gas 4 times so far, once while on the freeway. this is a public safety hazard. *tt

2006 chevy trailblazer gas gauge stopped working. dealer quoted $1000.00 to repair it. it is a very common problem on trailblazers i have found from researching this issue. gm should recall these vehicles for repair at no cost to the customer. poor quality by gm on this. this could cause a crash by running out of gas in heavy traffic. estimating fuel is not a safe alternative. *tr

The gas gauge on my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer began to show an empty tank when i filled up, after driving about 50 miles the gauge would properly show the amount of gas i had in the tank until the next fill up. the problem has gotten worse and i have read that other trailblazer owners are having the same problem. the defect seems to be common, expensive to repair, and should be the responsibility of chevrolet. *tr

Truck ran out of gas on a highway exit ramp this has happen at least 10 times since the fuel gauge read random levels when i know that there is either more or less gas than its reading it tends to vary between empty and gas light on to 1/2 full no matter how much gas is in it .we have to calculate mileage in order to ensure we do not run out .the gauge works maybe 1%of the time . *tr

I was driving down the highway and my 2006 trailblazer ss stopped running with no warning. luckily i didn't have my two young children with me. it was a dangerous situation in heavy, fast moving traffic. this has happened twice now. the low fuel indicator is malfunctioning. it didn't turn on, so i unknowingly ran out of gas. i will now have to get a costly repair done. *tr

After filling up tank, tank registers empty, and check engine light on, after restarts able to measure gas amount, within weeks, no longer measure fuel amounts, check engine light comes and go, fuel gauge sometimes in the middle of a drive will suddenly appear to measure amount of fuel and just as suddenly return to low fuel reading and empty on gauge. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was not reading properly. whenever the fuel tank was full, the fuel gauge would display an empty reading. after waiting a few days, the fuel gauge would adjust to a proper reading, but the failure would recur once the vehicle was refueled. the contact also stated that the failure began after the dealer flushed the fuel injection system. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. the vin was not available.

The fuel gauge on my 2006 trailblazer has a fuel gauge problem. it will not read the right amount of fuel and is starting to cause problems to start. and when it gets really bad engine performance also slows down. *tr

When driving, noticed that the fuel gauge would be moving toward the empty position. when i stop to refuel( gauge read 1/2 tank) ended up putting 20 gallons in it. went to dealership, they said fuel gauge sensor was bad. i had it replaced.the vehicle had 52,000 miles on it. *tr

Gas gauge on chevy trailblazer is very inaccurate. it stops working each time you fill up with gas. this can be fixed but will cost $600. this needs to be a recall. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the fuel sending unit failed. the fuel gauge displayed that the fuel tank was empty at all times even when the vehicle was full of fuel. the warning light constantly remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the gm manufacturer would cover half of the repair cost which he was responsible for $136. the dealer replaced the fuel sending unit. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 84,566.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls. the contact stated that while rolling down the front drivers side window, smoke began to rise from the door panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the control module in the front drivers side door melted and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the contact also stated that the fuel gauge would display improper readings after refueling. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 93,600.

Fuel sensor does not work. chevy is aware of this problem and issued a deal to pay for half the cost only if the car has under 120,000 miles or is less than 10 years old. we are over the mileage limit, but this problem caused our car to run out of gas on a curvy, mountain road with large coal trucks speeding by. we ran out in a place where we could not pull far enough off the side of the road and were almost hit by several passing vehicles. we couldn't start the vehicle and had to drift it backwards downhill to a safer place. very dangerous!!! *kb

1.fuel gauge on our 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls sport with 6 cyl. engine became erratic going up and down without relation of how much gas was in the gas tank. this started when vehicle mileage was below 40,000 miles. 2. now the fuel gauge always reads empty, and we have to go by trip mileage to determine when to fuel up. once june 18, 2011) when we hadn't filled the tank fully, the distance on it was misjudged and ran out of fuel on a main thoroughfare during heavy traffic. thankfully an accident didn't happen. 3. we had checked the internet about this problem and found it wasn't rare, but quite prevalent on our vehicle and similar ones, due to defective fuel sending units having contacts corrode. we put in a bottle of gm fuel treatment, with no change. the expense to replace the combined sensor/fuel pump unit that is located in the gas tank isn't worth spending as the replacement part is identical to the original and the problem will happen again. if the fuel runs out in an intersection or rush hour traffic a crash could result that could cause injury or death.. *kb

The fuel gauge in my 2006 chevy trailblazer has been acting erratically. within a few miles of filling up the gas tank the low fuel light comes on. sometimes it will start working again and sometimes it wont. the service station scanned the check engine codes and it showed a bad fuel level sensor. *tt

When i did a routine fill up on my vehicle and upon restarting the car after completion, the fuel gauge showed empty and the low fuel light came on. i turned the vehicle off and then turned it back on and it still showed low fuel. as i was driving the vehicle home, i noticed the check engine light came on. after driving the vehicle for about 20 miles or so, the fuel gauge showed correctly and the check engine light went off. however, upon the next fill up, it did the same thing. now, it is at the point that it doesn't register the gas in the vehicle at all. one minute it shows empty, the next it shows correctly, and then it slowly goes back to empty. i have to use the trip gauge to know how much gas i have in my vehicle at all times. the check engine light comes on every time the fuel gauge shows empty. lately, over the last few days, the car is starting to hesitate as if it was going to stall on me upon take off. i am getting worried that this vehicle is going to stall on me as i am driving and cause an accident.

The fuel level sensor stopped working, thus leaving no way to tell how much fuel is in my vehicle. this should not happen on a vehicle after only 60,000 miles. i consider it a serious safety hazard, and am fearful that it could lead to a stall on a busy freeway. to avoid that situation, and the uneccessary added stress, i am constantly making stops at a gas station. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and would not display an accurate fuel level reading. the fuel gauge would display the fuel tank as empty after refueling the tank to full capacity. the contact was concerned with the possibility of running out of fuel without warning. the contact had not called the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 106,000. updated 06/10/11

Vehicle fuel gauge had incorrect reading. vehicle ran out of gas on highway. when gas tank is filled vehicle fuel gauge gives false empty reading. vehicle also stalls at times. fuel gauge moves around often during operation of vehicle. it appears this is a common issue with this vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph the vehicle stalled. upon restart, the vehicle continued to operate as normal. the contact also stated that the fuel gauge would display a reading of empty when the fuel tank was not empty. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the ethanol within the fuel was eating away at the fuel sending unit. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the failure mileage was 109,000. the vin was unavailable.

The gas gauge reads empty when gas is present. continues to beep indicating the low fuel. when you first turn engine on it will register an amount of gas then fall to trigger the low fuel light. you are never sure how much gas is in the fuel tank.

2006 chevrolet trailblazer, 4dr, lt, 4wd. fuel gauge stopped working. fill up tank, gauge goes up to full, but then falls back down to empty. i do not know the level of fuel in my vehicle. appears to be a common problem among 2003-2006 trailblazers. have ran out of fuel on the road. most likely fuel sensor or cluster. *tr

My 2006 chevy trailblazer ran out of gas on a rural road leaving me stranded. the gauge does not register properly. it floats around. i cannot afford the $600 to replace the system at the dealership. i understand that this is a common failure for this model vehicle and think that it should be covered by a recall.. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after refueling, the fuel gauge began to display inaccurate readings. the check engine and fuel lights also began illuminating on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not yet taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. the failure and current mileages were 55,000.

Car ran out of fuel while on the interstate during rush hour. gauge still read over a quarter of a tank. *tr

Fuel gauge failing to register correct amount of fuel. took to local mechanic and they said the fuel sensor has failed and need to replace entire fuel pump system. quoted repair cost of $900 (including parts and labor)

Fuel gauge began reading inaccurately for a while. at one time, the gauge showed a quarter tank, but then my vehicle shut down while i was driving on redwood hwy in grants pass, or due to being out of gas. since then, the gauge has completely stopped working. sometimes, the gauge will show up to a half tank, but the needle quickly falls back to empty. this is a chronic problem. two mechanics have told me that the sending unit very commonly fails on trailblazers and that he would need to drop the tank to replace it. *tr

Have a 2006 chevy trailblazer that only has 36,000 miles and the fuel gauge is not working properly. if i fill it up, it will show empty and the empty alert will start sounding while the light comes on. eventually it will start working after about 80 or so miles. then when the tank gets to about 1/4 it starts acting up again. i have seen many complaints, in fact hundreds if not thousands, of people having the same issue online. *kb

The fuel gauge recently stopped working after filling the tank with gas. it reads empty (and the low fuel amber light illuminates and the warning bell chimes). it then will go between 1/4 tank to empty to full to empty (back and forth) even though the tank is completely full. this vehicle suffered the same problem when it was under warranty (it had less than 3 years 36,000 miles). at that time gm replaced the "fuel sensor sending unit" at no charge to me since the vehicle was under warranty. we are not suffering the same problem. i would have to surmise that there must be a defect since it can not possibly be normal to replace a fuel gauge sensor twice on a vehicle that is just now five years old with 61,000 miles on it. i fear for my family's safety since an accident could result should our trailblazer run out of gas...stall...and subsequently cause an accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after adding gasoline to the fuel tank he noticed that the fuel gauge would read empty. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised him that there were no recalls on his vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 67,400.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge did not display an accurate reading. as a result, the contact never knew how much fuel was in the vehicle. no warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. neither the dealer, nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,000. updated 09/21/11*lj updated 10/03/11

Fuel gauge fluctuation on 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. reads empty when full frequently. is inaccurate and unpredictable. *tr
